This was originally a blog, though I was requested to move it here for more discussion.

As we all know, the top two players in each division move on automatically into the final playoffs. The next top 20 players go into a playoff for the remaining 5 spots in the finals. I believe these last 20 players are chosen independent of the groups, someone feel free to correct me on this if I am incorrect.

First, the top two players scenarios.

Division 1

+ Show Spoiler +
Division one has four possible players that can qualify directly to the finals. Morrow, Sheth, Fenix and Moon. The standings are as follows:

1. Morrow (7-1 with 8 points)
2. Moon (6-2 with 8 points)
3/4. Sheth/Fenix (6-2 with 7 points)

Coincidentally, these players face each other.

Moon vs Fenix
Sheth vs. Morrow

Because the difference in points is only one, the winner of each of these matches makes the top two. One of Moon and Fenix will be in, and one of Sheth and Morrow will be in.

Division 2

+ Show Spoiler +
July has automatically qualified. Here are the standings. Only five players are in contention.

1. July (7-1 with 10 points)
2/3. White-Ra/Sjow (5-3 with 3 points)
4. Darkforce (5-3 with 1 point)
5. Cruncher (4-4 with 1 point)

Incontrol is not in contention, because even if he 2-0's Sjow, he is still behind him and White Ra in points. Similarly, TT1 is not in contention because he is 3 points behind White Ra and Sjow.

Several important matches here:
Sjow vs Incontrol
QXC vs Darkforce
TT1 vs Cruncher
White Ra vs Ensnare

So, what could happen?
Cruncher can qualify if he 2-0's TT1 and both White Ra and Sjow lose by any score. If Cruncher only 2-1's TT1, White Ra and Sjow must BOTH lose by 2-0 scores. Darkforce must also lose for these scenarios.

Darkforce can qualify if he wins and both White Ra and Sjow lose. That simple.

White Ra and Sjow get complicated. Since they have identical records, if one of them wins and the other loses, that person who won qualifies. However, if they both wins, the person who didn't drop a game in this week will qualify. If they both win by 2-0 scores, it goes to the head to head tiebreak. White Ra beat Sjow 2-1 in their matchup.

Division 3
+ Show Spoiler +
Here are the current standings, with 4 players in contention. Squirtle and Strelok have automatically qualified.

1. Squirtle (7-1 with 9 points)
2. Strelok (7-1 with 8 points)

Division 4
+ Show Spoiler +
Here are the current standings. Select has automatically advanced.

1. Select (7-1 with 12 points)
2. Ret (7-1 with 10 points)
3. Ace (6-2 with 7 points)

Here are the important matches:
Select vs MC
ret vs HasuObs
Ace vs Goody

So what could happen?
If Ret wins, he advances.

Ace can advance if he wins 2-0, along with Ret losing. If Ace drops a single game, he will not advance, as there is no way he can pass Ret in points, even if Ret loses 2-0. Ace does hold the tie breaker over Ret, so on the chance that Ace wins 2-0 and Ret loses 2-1, Ace advances through tie break.

Edit: Just realized this was wrong. If Ace wins 2-1, he has 8 points. If Ret loses 2-0, he also has 8 points. Ace owns the tie breaker over Ret and would advance in this scenario also.

Division 5
+ Show Spoiler +
Here are the current standings.

1. Boxer (7-1 with 9 points)
2. Sen (6-2 with 9 points)
3. Zenio (6-2 with 8 points)
4. Idra (6-2 with 7 points)

Here are the important matches:
Idra vs. Boxer
Socke vs. Sen
Zenio vs. Painuser

So what could happen?

Boxer advances if he wins. If he loses, at most he gets 8 points and will only advance if both Sen and Zenio lose, because he obviously loses the tie breaker to Idra,

Idra advances if he beats Boxer with any score and one of Zenio or Sen lose, or if both Sen and Zenio lose. If both Sen and Zenio win, there is no scenario in which Idra advances.

Sen advances if he wins his match. Even if it is 2-1 and Zenio 2-0's, Sen takes the tie break because he beat Zenio earlier. Sen can also advance if he loses, provided both other Zergs lose as well. Again, Sen owns the tie break over both Zenio and Idra.

Zenio advances if he wins and Sen loses. If Zenio wins 2-1 and Idra wins 2-0, Zenio advances due to the tie break.

And now for the final qualifier playoff spots:

The following players have automatically qualified for the finals:
+ Show Spoiler +
July
Squirtle
Strelok
Select
+6 more players to be determined this week. See above for those scenarios.

Players in contention for the playoff spots:
+ Show Spoiler +
1.Ret (7-1 with 10 points)
2 Boxer (7-1 with 8 points)
3 Morrow (7-1 with 8 points)
4 Sen (6-2 with 9 points)
5 Moon (6-2 with 8 points)
6 Zenio (6-2 with 8 points)
7 Fenix (6-2 with 7 points)
8 Idra (6-2 with 7 points)
9 Sheth (6-2 with 7 points)
10 Ace (6-2 with 6 points)
11 Naniwa (5-3 with 7 points)
12 Kiwikaki (5-3 with 5 points)
13 Nada (5-3 with 4 points)
14HasuObs (5-3 with 3 points)
15 MC (5-3 with 3
16 Sjow (5-3 with 3 points)
17 White Ra (5-3 with 3 points)
18 Darkforce (5-3 with 1 point)
19 Axslav (4-4 with 1 point)
20 Cruncher (4-4 with 1 point)
21 Mana (4-4 with 0 points)
22 Socke (4-4 with 0 points)
23 TT1 (4-4 with 0 points)
24 Incontrol (4-4 with -2 points)
25 Moman (3-5 with -1 points)
26 Ensnare (3-5 with -2 points)
27 Stalife (3-5 with -2 points)
28 TLO (3-5 with -3 points)
29 DDE (3-5 with -4 points)
30 Rainbow (3-5 with -4 points)
31 Vibe (3-5 with -4 points)
32 Cloud (3-5 with -5 points)
33 Bratok (3-5 with -6 points)
34 Slush (3-5 with -6 points)

Because there are still 6 players who have not yet been seeded into the final playoffs, this list shows 6 players who will not be necesarry for the playoffs. What this means is that everyone with a 5-3 record or higher right now is auto qualified for the qualifier playoffs. This has been taken into account for the following list of players who have automatically qualified for the qualifier playoffs based on record:
+ Show Spoiler +

Ret
Boxer
Morrow
Sen
Moon
Zenio
Fenix
Idra
Sheth
Ace
Naniwa
Kiwikaki
Nada
HasuObs
MC
Sjow
White Ra
Darkforce

If we take 6 of the players out of that list for auto qualifying into the finals, we are left with 12 players for the qualifying playoffs. This leaves 8 spots open with a few interesting scenarios:

TT1 vs Cruncher: One of these two are guarunteed to be in this playoffs. The loser is still in a decent position to also make it in. If the loser is Cruncher, he needs to be passed by 5 other people in the standings. If it is TT1, he would need to be passed by 3 other people in the standings.

Bratok vs. Stalife: The winner of this match moves up to 4-5 with a decent chance of being in these playoffs. Stalife has the better chance, as he has a higher point score to begin with. It is unlikely Bratok advances even with a win.

Here is a summary of each players next week.
+ Show Spoiler +
Axslav: He needs to be passed by 8 other people to lose his spot and while possible, it is unlikely. He plays Nada though, which will be a tough game.

Cruncher: See Axslav, replace 8 with 6. 6 because if he loses, TT1 is guarunteed to pass him and he is one spot below Ax.

Mana: He is playing Drewbie and is likely to win that match. If he doesn't, he still has a good opportunity to advance as he also needs to be passed by 6 people.

Socke: He plays Sen, unfortunately. However, even if he loses, there are enough people below him with tough weeks that he should make it through.

TT1: If he loses to Cruncher, it gets tougher for TT1, though as said before, he would still need to be passed by 3 people below him.

Incontrol: Geoff plays against Sjow, which will be a very tough game for him. If he loses, with a 4-5 record, he isn't done quite yet, though his amount of low points does put him at more of a disadvatnage than the rest of the 4-4 group.

Moman: Plays against July and is not likely to win. If he loses, he will not likely get a spot, especially considering one of Bratok and Stalife is guarunteed to win.

Ensnare: Plays White-Ra. If he wins, he has a good shot at making the playoffs. If he loses he will likely not make it

Stalife: Plays against Bratok. As a player with a higher point score amongst the 3-5 players, a victory over somebody lower than him would definately help him qualify. Chances are good for him.

TLO: Faces Artosis, likely a free win. This game is probably played today (Tuesday) and if Artosis isn't home yet, it is unlikely they will even play, giving TLO the 2-0 win. TLO will likely take one of the lower seeds in the playoffs.

DDE: Faces KawaiiRice, which will be an interesting match. He needs to pass 3 players to qualify. If DDE loses, he will have no chance of qualifying.

Rainbow: Plays Grubby. This will be a match for the ages. Rainbow needs to pass 4 players to qualify.
Vibe

Cloud: Plays Tyler and has a good chance at victory. However, he does have to pass 5 players to qualify. Most likely, he could pass Rainbow, DDE, Ensnare, Moman and he could pass Incontrol, provided they all lose 2-0 and Cloud wins.

Bratok: Very unlikely, at the best case scenario, would be tied with Incontrol for points for the last spot.

Slush: See Bratok

Damn, this seems overly complicated. I thought the points were only to break tie breakers such as two people who are 5-3 but one has 5 points and the other has 4.

Given the amount of prize money for this tournament, it seems to be paying off for them. They had to play, what, 9 online Bo3s? For a shot at a $100,000 tournament...

Reposting what I posted at Dexington's blog:

Based on the fact that Painuser hasn't shown up for three matches in a row, Zenio will almost certainly 2-0. He will almost certainly have 10 points.

Basically, Sen has to win his match 2-0 or 2-1. 2-1, however, gets him 10 points, which gets him the tiebreak against Zenio, and also puts him above anything IdrA can gain. But the issue here is that Boxer can also get 10 points, and Zenio has the HtH advantage over Boxer. If a three-way tie happens between Boxer, Sen, and Zenio, I'm not sure what happens.

IdrA has to hope Sen loses. If Sen loses, IdrA has a chance to advance over Boxer if he beats Boxer 2-0. If Sen doesn't lose, there is no way IdrA can have more points than him, in which case HtH will always advance Sen over IdrA.

Zenio has to hope Sen or Boxer loses. Sen losing will give Sen 7-8 points and Zenio 10 points. This means he will advance no matter what happens in Boxer vs. IdrA. Or Zenio can hope that Boxer loses. Either 1-2 or 0-2 will do.

Boxer advances if he 2-0s IdrA. If he doesn't 2-0 IdrA, then things get tricky. 2-1, and Boxer is at 10 points, with the HtH *disadvantage* against Zenio. Now he has to hope that Sen loses against Socke. If Sen loses, Boxer and Zenio will advance.

If Sen wins 2-1, however, he will have 10 pts, Zenio will have 10 pts, and Boxer will have 10 pts. Boxer will have the HtH against Sen, Sen will have the HtH against Zenio, and Zenio will have the HtH against Boxer. Again, not sure what happens here.

If Boxer 1-2s against IdrA, he has to hope that Sen also 1-2s against Socke, or 0-2s. If Boxer 0-2s, then he has to hope Sen 0-2s. Basically, if Boxer loses, Sen also has to lose just as badly (or worse) if Boxer is to advance.

Unfortunately, IdrA and Sen cannot both advance. Only if Sen loses can IdrA advance. IdrA can get a maximum of 9 points, whereas Zenio will almost certainly have 10.

Zenio 2-0ing Tyler has basically sealed their fates, though Sen losing to Cloud has given IdrA the faintest glimmer of hope, since if Sen 2-0'd Cloud and Zenio 2-0'd Tyler there would've been no way for IdrA to advance.

It looks like this whole business with Painuser not playing is really going to screw up Idra's playoff chances. Otherwise it is kind of cool to see how many important matches will end up happening for each division. I don't remember, is there also wildcard slots?

If I'm not mistaken, Boxer would be in with a win. He'd have the best record at 8-1. From what I understand, the points are the tie-breaker after overall record.

If I'm not mistaken, Boxer would be in with a win. He'd have the best record at 8-1. From what I understand, the points are the tie-breaker after overall record.

Okay, then that makes the scenario a bit easier. All Boxer needs to do is win against IdrA. All Sen has to do is win against Socke. If either of them lose, Zenio will advance with the winner. If both of them lose, IdrA will advance with Zenio.

With your playoff scenarios, aren't you assuming 4 players from each division go to the playoffs? That may not be the case, since the players qualify for the playoffs by being in the top 20 OVERALL ranking out of the players not already qualified for the finals. So, for many players, their playoff chances will also depend on results from other divisions.

If Strelok wins either of his remaining matches, he advances.
Naniwa advances if he beats Haypro by any score, and Strelok loses both his matches.
Nada advances if, and only if, Naniwa loses, Strelok loses both of his matches by any score and Nada wins his match.

Strelok is in a position where he could get screwed by his week 1 walkover win. Remember, Naniwa was "too tired to play". Both players got zero points for the walkover. If Strelok loses both of his last two games, he could end up tied in W/L with Nada and/or Naniwa, yet have less points than them. If Naniwa and Strelok had played week 1, with Strelok winning, Strelok could edge ahead in points under some scenarios.

What I'm really interested to see is the scenarios for the players to stay in the NASL for season 2. I'm not sure, but I believe the bottom 2 players are replaced by fresh blood?

I would not be surprised if PainUser shows up this time against Zenio, because he and IdrA seem to be (good) friends and (good) friends help each other defeat evil Korean zergs
I don't think his chances against Zenio are all that good, but i'm confident that he'll at least try.

If they haven't DQed him, that is.

But Painuser quit the NASL so Zenio gets a free win in his next match, so he is in a great position to advance from division 5.
