Not sure if there were similar topics about the gaming mice before...

It's a japanese site. Here is the English version.

Summary: tested many of the best gaming mice on the market. The results also depend on the mouse pads, which is not the main focus here. Two glass mouse pads were used in the test: Japanese made "G-pad" and the SteelSeries Experience I-2 pad ( turned out that the former is slightly better compatibilitywise).

Data at extreme speeds:

The G9x has the best consistency( close to a straight line) and the highest max speed (6 m/s +). Other mice shows clipping (not a data saturation, but a sort of negative acceleration) after passing a certain speed mark and malfunction/lose control/skip after getting a while faster. (The RAT7 mouse which uses a "theoretically" more advanced sensor than the G9x's was not included at the time of the test; later tests showed that it has compatiblity issues with many surfaces and G9x actually outperformed it by a large margin ).

The sensors used by the mice are listed below. For technical details of each sensor, check here

Basically the Philips 3.5 G Laser Sensor is the most "technically" (take with a grain of salt) advanced sensor(used by CRT7 mouse), followed by the ADNS-9500 used by the G9x, even though the tests showed that the G9x performs significantly better.

Does anyone really move their mouse more than 2m/s in SC2? Seriously? I can see how that might be possible for some incredibly low sense cs player but comparing mice with this irrelevant statistic doesn't seem useful.

Perhaps we could measure the amount of time it takes for a left mouse click to be registered at the end of the usb cable....

In fact, a far more useful statistic would be, how well it handles being thrown at a wall or smashed with your fist, after being cannon rushed for the 4th time in a row.

the laser types wow

i have been looking for something like this BUT as whirl said the tests for that many meters is unrealistic.

i would love to see score for many other things

also does that mean the laser used for a sidewinder is the same as a habu and other mice in that category?

haha I use a G9x this makes me feel good lol

The poorest performance according to the graph seems to be the Ikari, which is funny since i used an ikari before, which started malfunctioning after about 2 months.

That one is probably more relevent to actual performance. But it's interesting to see the G9x performing well at such high speed.

This little experiment is an interesting read thanks for the post. Further than being interesting I use the G9x plain and simple due to the comfort of the mouse, which I attribute to its shape. As an old school gamer, the G9x shape most closely resembles the old school Logitech gaming mice, it was one that was also wide and with the old rubber ball thingys.

I just bought an el cheapo gaming mouse from some random chinese company called Sunsonny.

Hasn't wowed me so far.......
Really is there any noticeable difference between a 100 dollar and 10 dollar mouse? in SC2.

Deathadder FTW!
BTW, that is a Deathadder 3500, right?
EDIT: No, that's the old 1800 DPI version. I wonder how well the new one performs.

<3 G9x. I've never had it skip or cause a single issue in the 4 months I've had mine. Without a grip it is literally the perfect mouse for me, It's tiny, light, insanely comfy, has nice buttons, and works when I need it to. Not to mention mine currently sports hot pink LEDs. Best computer-related purchase I've ever made.

I use a g9x, this makes me feel sexy (although I doubt that this test will matter too much to casual users). Haven't had any problems with it, but then again others may not have problems with other mice either.

I'm actually not a fan of this one. One of the biggest reasons for this is that they only used glass pads. This really should be a controlled variable in the test of any mouse. Furthermore, I'd argue that the vast majority of people use a pad that isn't made of glass (most likely cloth). That serves to make most of those readings a semi-moot point and the sensors in each mouse can have pretty variable performance depending on the type of pad.

I've seen several exhaustive tests and the DeathAdder, in particular, usually does way better than this test implies. In fact, even with the old version, it's usually ranked at the very top (and, if you want a higher DPI mouse, it's likely the best -- or close to it -- stat-wise).

However, the G9x is definitely solid. Most of those mice are pretty good. And, as others have said, extreme tests like this usually don't enter into the equation for real life use (especially for a RTS like StarCraft since we don't do the sweeping movements of FPS players). My only goal in this post was to point out that these results should be taken with a very large grain of salt and probably shouldn't be used when making a purchasing decision.

Also, note that you said
The results also depend on the mouse pads, which is not the main focus here.
even though you titled the thread "Game Mice & Mouse Pads Test," which implies that the pads will be tested, too.

So basically there only two mice that aren't recommended , the ones that fail under 2 metres/second.
Anything over 2m/sec is basically irrelevant as that is a ridiculous amount to move a mouse especially in a game like starcraft.
