Hello dear TL Community,
today i am writing you, because i really like the community and it kinda disappoints me how the TL staff or mods treat users like me.
Some days ago, Day9 was voted Gamer of the year and so there was a thread about people congratulating him. I am a huge Day9 Fan, and watch almost every daily, so of course i posted in there to congratulate him.
Well... i should have thought about what i did then, twice. I made the huge error to write an ironically "First" before congratulating him, and although it was only meant to be ironic and more like a little joke, i didnt know it would have been a fatal decision. Now i know that it was really stupid and in no way funny, therefor it was ok for me when i got this warning:
+ Show Spoiler +"This is a Warning!
THIS IS A NOTICE THAT IF YOU EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER POST FIRST AGAIN NOT ONLY ON THIS FORUM BUT ON ANY FORUM AND DONT THINK WE WONT FIND OUT BECAUSE WE WILL EVEN IF ITS ON SOME PRIVATE FORUM THAT ONLY YOUR FAMILY POSTS ON I SWEAR TO GOD I'LL KIDNAP YOUR FUCKING GRANDMOTHER AND BEAT THE URL OUT OF HER AND I WILL FIND OUT IF YOU POST FIRST THIS IS A NOTICE THAT IF YOU EVER DO IT AGAIN I'M GOING TO CUT YOUR TONGUE OUT AND SLAP YOUR ACROSS YOUR STUPID NERD FACE WITH IT AND AFTER THAT WE'LL SEE WHAT YOU LOOK LIKE WITHOUT EYES I MEAN IT I'LL PULL OUT YOUR FUCKING EYEBALLS AND THEN HOLD THEM UP TO YOUR FACE SO YOU CAN LOOK AT YOURSELF SHRIEK IN HORROR BEFORE MY BLADE ENTERS YOUR SKULL AND EVERYTHING GOES DARK"
I got to say, that in the first moment i was a little bit shocked to get such a warning for my little comment. But then again. I made my stupid comment before my congratulations, so i accepted this warning and tried to take it with a smile, although i didnt found it in any way funny. At all.
But then, 2 days later, i get another message from a mod, who informed me that i get banned for 2 days (actually i got banned 3 days but who cares), for the same reason.
If i get banned for my comment, i can live with it, although i find it a little bit exagerated, but what i dont like is getting an insulting warning like this, AND THEN get the bann, for the exact same post i made. Then just ban me, and dont bother sending me such a rude text.
Again, i like this site and this community because i love starcraft, but if this is the way new users (because i dont think, old and known ones get treated like this) are being treated here, i will happily stay away from it.
Just wanted to tell it, because it was a real disappoinment.

Why is it so hard to PM the people who could actually deal with this problem?
When you post it here it is obviously a publicity stunt and a stab at Teamliquid.
Btw thanx 4 the laff.

I understand that you feel a bit disappointed but this reaction shows you, how annoying these "first" posts are for the mods. TL does not want to be like youtube comment section... Nobody knws if you are making a joke or if you just dont know about this rule on TL. Seeing that your postcount is low, it is rather possible that you didnt know about it.
See it from Mods perspective: YOU will never forget about this warning and you will NEVER again post "first" on TL I assume. From long time experience, it seems to be the only way to prevent people from doing things like that on a forum.
What I dont understand, however, is that you got banned later on fr the same?? post.
It also depends on the mods mood etc, sometimes a mod just writes something like "we dont do this here" and its fine. Even TLs mods are just human
EDIT: And btw, I dont know if it is a good idea to post a PM, which is a private msg in public, where it doesnt belong. First step usually is to PM the mod back and try to explain that you just wnted to make a joke and wont do it again etc. You can express you feelings without making it public

You're correct to see that TL really, really discourages stupid things like "first" etc. However, if your quote is in fact exactly what a mod sent you, it seems a bit uncalled for, despite the fact that they have to deal with this so much.

well, i would if i could and know who wrote that to me.
but at the end there is this little info
" (Do not reply to this message. No one will receive it.)"

There is a thread about all bans that happen on TL. Find it and you see who banned you. You can then pm this specific mod

Yeah I always see people getting warnings for very harmless tongue in cheek comments sometimes while seeing the same people qq about balance over and over again ruining tons of tournament threads but they get nothing. Gotta sort your priorities straight TL mods.

oh ok, i didnt know.
I am sorry that i wrote this first. I never did that and dont know what went into my mind to think that it would be funny... So again, im sorry and wont do that again. I just found it really unfair to get punished 2 times for the same reason. I know that mods are humans as well, so i dont take that warning too serious, but there might be users who are a little more sensitive and so the mods could perhaps think about not being too overly aggressive.
just my opinion.

True to some extend but you have to admit that tournament thread often rise in pages very quickly and that it is very hard for mods to draw a line between qqing about balance and just commentating the outcome of a game. Its just not possible to think about each replay too much and ban everyone qqing about balance. TL would be an empty place then, or at least the SC2 strategy forum + LR-threads
Having this rules to not allow posts like "first" etc is a good thing to have!

Old and known users don't post, "first," and thus old and known users aren't going to get treated like that.
The way TL moderates is great and their "harshness" is what keeps TeamLiquid from becoming 4chan or just a huge forums of people flaming one another.
