Let's start with the basics: predict what's going to happen. You can be as general or detailed as you like.
Zona: I'm not going to throw out specific matchup predictions as I think the chances of calling them with a high degree of accuracy aren't that high. All I will say is that there's going to be tears as SK Telecom T1 caps off its amazing playoff run from the lowest rounds with a victory at the Grand Finals. SKT T1's string of victories leading up to these Grand Finals have brought out a lot of bitterness on these forums, much more than I expected at first. Some of you hate the team because they are rather successful. People who can't appreciate the hard work, the planning, and the tactics that go into a team's success - I pity you. But everyone else, it's time to enjoy watching The Emperor's Team battle again to the top of the podium.
Scaramanga:In short KT will own SKT so badly that SKT are likely to disband instantly, all SKT fan boys will immediately start cheering for KT and finally disciple will admit that Bisu is just a dt abusing newbie. I’m predicting KT 4-1 with someone like Firefist dropping a game for KT
We haven't seen KT play a regular Bo7 yet this season, since they went straight to the finals. Call KT's six.
Scaramanga: Set 1: < New Heartbreak Ridge > Violet Set 2: < Polaris Rhapsody > Stats Set 3: < Fortress > Flash Set 4: < Grand Line SE > Hoejja Set 5: < Match Point > Forgg Set 6: < Judgment Day > Tempest Set 7: < Fighting Spirit > Flash (if it comes to ace)
Zona: KT's team, in all its incarnations and with all its psychotic name changing, has never been able to bring it when it counts in the team leagues. Never able to handle the pressure of playoffs and the biggest stage for esports when their teammates are counting on them. None of the players, except the so-called "Ultimate Weapon", have ever proven that they have the mental fortitude to perform when under such pressure. Who knows who the KT coach will send? He doesn't always make the most enlightened decisions. But I'll take a stab at it anyways: Flash, Forgg, Stats, Violet, Tempest, and Hoejja.
Talk about your team's strengths, its weaknesses. Do the same for the opposition, and tell us why your team is going to walk away victorious.
Zona: I've already discussed SK Telecom T1's inevitable victory in detail in this thread. Weaknesses? Well, the multitudes of close matches in SKT T1's playoff run so far and the games involved have demonstrated that even the best of SKT T1's players lose from time to time. But the team is unbelievably clutch. Virtually every time the team is on the brink of defeat, the next player up is able to come back with a win. And it's not just the famous aces on SKT T1 that have been grabbing such key victories, but some of the less esteemed players as well, even the SKT Zergs.
KT's strengths? Well Flash is obviously a strength. But other than that, despite the recent sorta-decent performance of their no-name protosses and such, everyone will see soon enough that they are in actuality mere pretenders, like that ex-Lecaf guy.
Scaramanga: There are a few strengths going into these finals for KT. One is KT’s roster, our roster holds a ridiculous amount of players that could be sent out which makes it harder for the opposing team to predict who will be sent out. Two is being birthed straight into the finals, we have seen SKT’s journey through the finals and know pretty well what they plan to do, expect KT players all to get the matches they want. Three is the greatest player on this earth, Flash. Our only weakness going in is not having played on stage yet so we don’t have this magical ‘momentum’ that the SKT players keep mentioning in their interviews. SKT have one main strength which is they have three champions that all have the ability to take flash out and absolutely smash any other KT player. Unfortunately for SKT, their weakness is that fantasy is the only one of these players that seams to care about the finals. You would expect from these players their best performances in the finals but more often than not SKT has had to pit their hopes on one of their amazing zergs to wrap up the series, that’s just not going to work vs. KT.
Flash has not won an Ace match for all of Round 5. If it gets to Ace, will Flash be sent? If so, will he break his losing streak? Who will be the victim (or the one to continue his anguish)?
Scaramanga: Flash will be sent for ace if it comes to it. Regardless of some of his sloppy performances he’s still the most likely for kt to bring home the bacon. His games of late show that he’s back to some good form and his recent interviews agree.
- Are you confident in the upcoming Grand Finals? ▲ I have unbridled [T/N: literally "incomparable"] confidence right now. I feel like I've reached my peak condition. Before I've said that I need to get myself to good condition [T/N: I feel like this sounds somewhat like "find my mojo"] but I've improved since then. I'd have confidence in the finals even right now. Zona: Who knows what the KT's coach is planning? In any case, along with Flash's dubious honor for being the undisputed worst ace match player last round - know this: SK Telecom T1 has not lost a single ace match in its long playoff run so far. And the team didn't lose any last year either. That is to say, SKT T1 has been victorious the 6 last playoff ace matches in a row.
Both sides have players that enjoy one matchup more than the others. Bisu's PvT is lacking, but his PvZ is as deadly as ever, though Tempest shies away from PvZ. Hoejja can't do anything but ZvP, and BeSt prefers not to PvZ (though you don't want to challenge him straight-up in a macro game for PvT). Regardless, neither KT nor SKT has Coach Cho to get the best matchups, so how is your team going to abuse its players' favorable matchup(s)?
Zona: First, let's dispel the notion that Coach Cho is uniquely talented in obtaining favorable matchups for his players. Coach Park, I daresay is even better at it. His ability in this respect was one of the major factors in keeping the team afloat in rounds 3 and 4 this season when all the team's players were struggling. In any case, compared to Coach Cho, Coach Park has more often than not come up with a matchup advantage against CJ which has resulted in a lopsided head to head record, in favor of SKT. And there's plenty of evidence showing that he outwits most of the other team coaches as well. As for "abusing" the SKT players' favorable matchups, we'll see soon enough - I'm not the master strategist, Coach Park is. But he mixes just the right things up while keeping unexpected things the same to catch an opposing manager off guard - look at how outfoxed WeMade was when the teams met.
Scaramanga: By being so much better? It doesn’t really matter if Bisu does face Hoejja, Flash plays Best or if Tempest has to play pvz, all of our players have the ability to win in their non favored matchups so it doesn’t really matter what players are sent on what maps. SKT on the other hand will be relying on getting the right matchups. You can’t expect Best to win a pvz, canata will just leave if he has to play a protoss and I would put money on idra if he was playing bisu with bisu’s current tvp form. If the SKT coach reads KT wrongly and screws up a placement or two, they are royally screwed.
Expecting any surprises?
Scaramanga: Bunkie vs Shogun Ace match?
Zona: I'm expecting the whole contingent of those who are hoping to see SKT T1 go down to be surprised as the team caps off its long playoff run with another victory. But like any other enlightened observer of professional Brood War, I already know that SKT T1's victory is predestined.
Why no Outsider?
Zona: Well, it's a map that's been out of the rotation for quite awhile now, so perhaps it's better for the players and coaches to focus more time on current maps.
Scaramanga: I have no idea, I’m disappointed with KT for taking that map out as it always produced some epic games. Its probably the map were KT players dislike the most or the map that most players had trouble playing on.
KT zergs or SKT zergs. Choose one, and why?
Scaramanga: So hard to choose between terrible and crappy. I guess we’ll find out when Hyuk plays Hoejja on grand line
Zona: SKT zergs are superior, of course. KT is so confident in their zergs they've sent them out to play a grand total of 8 times in the last proleague round. With 50 individual games played by KT players in all, the KT zergs have appeared only 16% of the time. KT's coaching staff doesn't even trust its zergs to play in proleague for them.
Whose ceremonies are you looking forward to, and why?
Zona: Well the ceremonies are just a sideshow, but perhaps a few will pop out that will effectively demoralize KT's bench. But given the "planting the flag" celebration last year, it'll be interesting to see what SKT T1 has planned this year as the team inevitably wins.
Scaramanga: Best coming out ripping his shirt of and then bicep curling his victim, I’d imagine that’d be pretty awesome.
Thanks for your time! Any last words, or any... bets that you'd like to make?
Scaramanga: No worries, KT HWAITING. If Zona is up for it I’ll bet my entire post count against his on these finals
Zona: Yellow's legacy will continue to be represented with his team. And Iloveoov's legacy will be represented with his.

I love SKT and all, but I hope KT wins it. SKT won last year, a 2nd place the very next year is still a great result, and Flash deserves it. Hoping for a Bisu/Best v Flash ACE match with Flash taking it home.

skt gonna win
epic year with flash/jaedong finals, nony/mondragon, skt/kt legend match

I hope Flash rapes Fantasy and Best. I also hope Tempest beats Bisu. I'm guessing SKT is gonna send its zerg trio to take advantage of KT's rotoss heavy lineup.

Flamewheel, apparently it's Gwangan~Ri. Anyways, I don't think foreigners will ever learn how to romanize Korean correctly.
Wow this is still more than 4 days away.

You could at least have waited with posting this 12 hours, when STX vs SKT game three was going to be played. Especially since there's no vods of P.O. day 2 up.
Thanks for spoling.

Gw is the Revised Romanization standard. (I believe)
Remember how Pusan became Busan? Blame it on adoption of RR (revised romanization).
edit: I confirmed that Kwangan is McCune–Reischauer. Gwangan is Revised Romanization. Those Koreans sure love to confuse foreigners.

is it gonna be 2 days or just one ?

Im not blaming it on anything ^_^ If its indeed terribly wrong I will change it.
And as for the spoilers, I think the results of day 2 were spoiled the moment GTR posted the "[SPL] Grand Finals" Maps thread. When I saw it, knowing the results of day one I didnt even bother checking the LR thread right away

Is this a bo3 or bo1? Seems like a bo1 as far as I can tell, but I find it strange that would be the case.

disciple,
It's not terribly wrong. Revised Romanization is just the way Koreans do it now. I think people will still understand MR romanization if they had to. Some Korean translators might take issue though, especially the younger crowd who didn't have much experience with MR. RR was adopted I as recently as 2000.
