EDIT 2: Battle.net reset all character names! I need everyone's character names again, IF they are to be changed. If you are going to use the same character name, you do not have to email me again. Make sure that if this is the case, you use the EXACT SAME name as before. If you change your name, please email me your old AND new names so that I can keep the brackets accurate.

Edit: Tournament will now have 64 players due to high interest. I'll be commentating all of the semifinals and other games at random that I can get into. Semifinals will be commentated and will happen in rounds of three, one game at a time. The finals will also take place one game at a time (each being commentated) and will be a best of five.

Bracket has been posted! Look and see who your opponents are: http://challonge.com/images/brackets/openwolfcup.png

Tournament Procedure:
After talking with many peers and players, looking at organisations of other tournaments, I have finally decided how this tournament will be run. Essentially, at 12:30 PM EST, I would like ALL players to join my IRC channel (see http://thepassingshadow.com/IRC_Chat.html ). Players will use their exact character name as their nickname in IRC (put an underscore afterwards if there are problems with the nick being taken, which can sometimes happen with connection errors). The bracket will be posted so that players can see who their first opponents are. Once in IRC, players should find their opponents and PM them (/msg <username> <message> ) and start sending realID information so that they can add each other as friends. After that, the players should enter a party with one another, do map eliminations to decide which map they will be playing on (see map rules below), and then wait for me to tell everyone to begin their first match (will happen around 1 PM EST). What happens if your opponent does not show up ? PM me in IRC letting me know, and I will either replace your opponent with someone on the waiting list or let you know that you will receive a lucky free win (bye) and will wait for the second round to begin.

After I announce in IRC to begin, all 32 parties will play their first game, and I will commentate on a game of my choosing during this round. Whenever someone finishes their first game, the WINNER will PM me on IRC, specifying both who won and who lost. Once all groups of players have sent me the winners and losers, and EVERY game of the first round is finished, the second bracket will be posted and players will once again PM each other with realIDs and join parties. Once everyone appears to be set up, the second round will begin, and once again, the WINNER will PM me on IRC with both the winner and the loser. This will repeat once more. After that, we will be in the semifinals.

The first two players I choose to commentate will play first, and I will add them as realID friends, and invite them to my party. In party chat, map will be decided, and the first game will begin, and I will commentate. The round will be a best out of three with counter-picks for maps, and then the next players will play. After that, the two finalists will choose maps again, and the same procedure will take place with me commentating, except with a best of five. Afterwards, the winner will be announced and everyone will be free to ask for rematches, etcetera etcetera, ask me questions in chat, and do whatever they wish before the beta goes offline at midnight (T_T)

What happens in a dispute over who won the match ? I will add one of the players' realIDs, and look at match history. If there is a further dispute, I will ask for the replay file.

::::

I posted a few days ago regarding my stream and possible commentating of tournaments and had some interest. I am putting together a tournament that will be completely open to players of all leagues. This is only the first of many tournaments I will be commentating/casting. If you miss this one, don't worry, there will be many more to come. If there become enough viewers, tournaments might end up having prizes in the future. I don't ever plan to have any entry fees whatsoever, though.

If you are interested in taking part in this open tournament, email verdruss@gmail.com with your character name and realID email. That way, you'll be added as a friend so I can easily invite the players whose turn it is into the lobby. The character name is so that I can put the bracket together. As for how many players I'm going to allow, that will probably be capped at 64. We'll see how many people join.

This tournament will take place on the US Servers on Sunday, at 1:00 PM, EST (GMT -5).

Until the semifinals, this tournament will be played in single-elimination rounds. At the semifinals, a best-of-three will be played, and the finals will be a best-of-five set. Many players will probably disagree with this, but it's for the sake of time. Unfortunately this tournament would be FAR too long if the sets were longer for elimination. If a player fails to show up for his match, he will lose by default (as of now). Future tournaments will be structured differently, especially invitationals.

In the single-elimination rounds, the maps available will be Lost Temple, Steppes of War, and Blistering Sands. Both players can eliminate one map, and the remaining map will be played. As for the semifinals and finals, the maps available will be Lost Temple, Steppes of War, Scrap Station, Metalopolis, and Incineration Zone. Both players can eliminate two maps from that list. Every time a player loses, they will be able to pick the next map to be played.

::

Viewing (as of now)

No one will observe (in-game) the tournament games but me, but games will be cast with my commentary live at http://livestream.com/thepassingshadow.

Chatting:

Livestream has built-in chat, but apart from that, my IRC channel will be open, and it is encouraged for all players to join the chat, ESPECIALLY if bandwidth problems occur during the livestream or if the stream goes down, so I can be alerted. In addition, players can PM me in-game if the stream goes down (but please do not PM me otherwise). There will also be a designated Ventrilo channel for people who want to use voice chat during the commentaries or during the tournament in general. I would like to stress that Ventrilo is NOT going to be the primary means of communication for the tournament, so you do not need to go there unless you'd just like to chat with some people.

Post will be edited when more players contact me and VERIFY that they will be playing for certain. There are many more players than are listed here who have not committed to the tournament. Until a player commits to being there, I will not list them here. Players have until 5 PM PST on Saturday to sign up for the tournament.

Feel free to post suggestions about the rules here and about what you like and dislike. The format is definitely open to discussion.

I'm going to need EVERYONE to send me an email if they have changed their character names at all from the name they originally emailed me. Also send your OLD character name so I know which one to change.

Congratulations to nEAnS who played well and took first place in the tournament, and congrats also to Xwoa who played admirably (and often cheesily) and fought his way to second place.

Thanks for participating and tuning in, and keep your eyes open for future Wolf Cups!
