I am wondering if there are any statements that all TL members agree with. I have a argumentative context in mind. Maybe these could serve as a point(s) of common ground for constructive debate instead of flames. Some contenders could be:
1. Reality is what it is despite what you think about it.
2. An entity cannot have and not have the same property at the same time in the same respect.
3. Human beings are not omniscient.
4. Just because you hold a position doesn't make that position true (or, in other words: Just because you say you are right doesn't mean you are).
5. Beliefs should aim for truth not falsehood.
6. It is useless to try and stop flames on TL.
|
Eh. Easy.
"I'm a member of TL."
|
6. Definitely 6.
I like some of the other choices as well, but I know for a fact several people here wouldn't agree with them, ideally 1 and 5.
EDIT: How about!
Earth is round. o.O

loled at the 6th

The flames are inevitable.

Let's celebrate diversity and agree to disagree. I think the common ground is "You can get banned by a mod for stupid bahavior".
|
Well, 6 has proven to be true quite often (unless you are a mod and ban a few flamers).
I dont'see how there could be a serious arguement about 2&3. I agree with 1&4, but you can easily argue about them, so I don't think all TL members agree on them. I disagree with 5, so apparently not all TL members agree on this

For #4 first thing that came to mind is that game of Bisu vs Jaedong where he didn't hold position.

"Starcraft is the greatest RTS game ever made."

7. Stork is best Protoss of all time!
|
7. If you bitch about your parents, you are an ungrateful son.
8. If a kid kills a person, the fault is on his parents.
9. If you are even remotely superstitious you are a retard.
10. It's easier call a person retard than to try to contradict his ideas.
11. If you post something unbelievably stupid, annoying or infuriating you get a free "I'm trolling you" card to get out and everyone thinks you're amazing for it, in fact you don't even have to say "I'm trolling" you just wait till someone else does and then post a smiley or a rofl or some shit.

Well, yeah, number 2 is just a restatement of the Pauli Exclusion Principle. Edit: Woops, nevermind, I read that wrong.
Number 2 is fuzzy in quantum mechanics.

yes that's what it should be.

Hmm i'm not too sure about this one. Quantic physics can be really weird and i don't know enough about it.

Probably. Me at least.

It really depends of the issue. In my opinion all kind of moralities/ideologies/religions etc.. are true but only for the person who believes it .
On December 08 2009 00:42 lOvOlUNiMEDiA wrote: 5. Beliefs should aim for truth not falsehood.
The problem is that i don't think there are a "morality truth" or on the other hand " a morality falsehood". Some kind of moralities just lead to more peaceful and hence durable societies though.

I think I can agree with number six somewhat. Don´t know about the others.

Don't agree with this, I think in most cases it's not the parents but other external influences that would make someone kill someone else. Parents aren't competely to blame here, but do have a certain influence

I don't think there are any statements other than "I am a member of TeamLiquid.net" that the entire population will agree with. The TL crowd is very intelligent and tends to be argumentative as a whole, which makes unanimous decisions next to impossible.
