Anyway, my problem is this, I'm using Windows Vista 64-bit and my sister's using Vista 32-bit on a laptop. My internet works fine when only I use it, but when my sister turns her laptop on and connects to the internet, I briefly lose connection to the Internet for about 10 seconds (which explains why my stream suddenly dies halfway, or why I get disconnected from iCCup often). We are connected (wired) on the same router (WRT54G firmware version 7.00.1). Why does this happen, and is there any way to prevent/remove this, other than making her tell me that she's going to use her laptop beforehand?

could be some sort of conflict that's causing your connection to be reset but i'm not sure.

I am no network admin, but I would just check into your local IP settings on your router, maybe set up a static one for both computers and see if it still happens?

It could be that you have the same IP or some sort of conflict as sith mentions, but it could also be that the router is on it's way out the door. Now is a good time to buy recertified/reconditioned routers online for cheap. You can get one for $30-$45 shipped. Try the reverse - connect to something on her computer and see if she disconnects temporarily when you turn on YOUR computer.

I woke up this morning and my Internet is connecting to some things but not others. For example, tealiquid.net is fine. But I cannot visit collegehumor.com. Or connect to starcraft. Or play a flash game on some other website. But I can connect to facebook. No idea what's going on :s I already replugged in my router.

Anyway, idk if it's relevant but I recently uninstalled AVG 8.5 and installed NOD instead. 2 days later, my internet stopped working randomly, like it says I'm connected at the btm right of the screen but when I go to firefox or chrome or IE, I can't load any page. I have to refresh for like 5~10 minutes before I finally get the page loading (and most of the time, it's not even a full load, with images missing and stuff). Here's the error message I get when I use FF. The connection was reset The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. * The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments. * If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection. * If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web. I'm using a WRT160N v3. This problem was temporarily solved when I reset my local area network adapter, but died a few minutes later again. Check if the IPs are in the range for LAN and not for Internet. Something like 192.168.0.100 instead of 213.53.113.183. If you get the Internet IP in ipconfig, it's a problem with NAT. Check if the modem is in the correct slot of the router, not in something like the uplink-slot. Download the newest firmware for the router. [E] A week or so ago I had trouble with my connection too, I had no upload whatsoever and sites loaded slow as hell. Try uploading something to a FTP and see if you get the full speed, and let someone dosbox -> ping the two PCs and see if that works. If you got those two problems you might have to talk to your provider. That's all I can think of now .. Maybe post your ipconfigs here to make sure.

My computer used to disconnect from the internet several times a day (even though I wasn't using Hamachi) until I uninstalled Hamachi. Also try uninstalling any network adapters that you're not using.
