Hey E-Sports fans

How many of you had the original Age of Empires 2: The Conquerors Expansion installed. Everybody who had remembers the elephants, archers and monks. There are still thousands of people who play it everyday and even competitive. If you want to see some high level medieval RTS-action, make sure to tune in to my stream.

Just past few months few players in the community have realized that it's possible to stream your game play and desktop in Age of Empires games too.

Now it's time for Age of Empires 2:TC to pick up and start offering totally new experience to the community. The last few weeks streaming has been improving tremendously. Easy to use program like XSplit and Voobly developers improved windowed mode for Age of Empires has made it possible for every man to start their own stream out of scratch.

Here's a screenshot of a talk show for Age of Empires called State of the Empire:

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

Over a week and a half of active streaming, I have received around 250 followers and had 150-300 users viewing simultaneously when I have been streaming normal 1900-level rated games. While I was streaming State of the Empire talk show, I had over 300 viewers simultaneously for over an hour. Sounds fun?

Here's a screenshot of my in-game view.

Here's a screenshot of waiting for game.

Age of Empires 2:TC has a really tricky early game which can seem slow paced but after it the fireworks start. I commentate my games and analyze them while I play. You can also enjoy my spontaneous reactions for dead villagers.

I am not streaming as I post this, but you can for example take a look at the past recordings. Please remember to click "Follow" in the upper left corner if you want to see me online. You will get notified in your e-mail about me going live and what I am going to stream.

Happy nostalgic moments! ^^

EDIT: Due to copyright claim my stream was removed entirely. I have opened a new stream and I have replaced the link with the new one.

UPDATE: I am hosting a Battle for #1: BO21 Show Match with $5000 prize pool. It's between Jordan and Daut who are two of the best Age of Empires 2:The Conquerors Expansion players.

Next stream: Friday 14 GMT 13.4.2012

I'm actually really excited for this. I always played vs the AI, and was no good. And I couldn't find any info on what the heck to do. But it's a fun game nonetheless.

Even the AI's have evolved since the game got out. And we are living interesting times, because Age of Empires 2: The Conquerors Expansion will have an expansion of expansion during this year.

Welcome to my stream, please remember to address to me in the chat that you are new to the game and we will help you to get started. You can check my long bio for information where to play the game.

This is awesome! I used to play a huge amount of AoE 1 and 2 on msn gaming zone back when it still existed (RIP) I was mainly was just good at keeping my money low, knew nothing about builds and stuff like that. Anyway good to see more AoE players stream, seemed like Feage was the only active one for a while.

Yes, well I am really putting effort to raising it to a new level. Yesterday we were at the first page of Twitch.tv games and of course our goals are higher.

The best way to help us is to tell your friends about it and making sure that you press the "Follow" button that you know when we go online.

Please leave me some feedback, that what you would like to see about the game as new players. At the moment the stream should be entertaining for people who know something about Age of Empires 2.

I could imagine that some of you loved the Sim City and huge fights when you played Age of Empires. I think that can be seen at teamgames.

Oh man, I used to remember seeing you owning up when I was still playing. Did daut go to SC2? I thought I saw an account under that name at one point.

Who are the big guys in the scene now? L_Clan_Chris still owning things up?

Daut went to SC2 for a short period of time, but he really never left Age of Empires, because he still thinks that it's the best game.

Best players are probably Daut, Chris, Jordan_23, TheViper, Dogao, Alive, Tim and Feage perhaps.

BlinG was one of the top players in Age of Empires 2:The Conquerors. He played it A LOT. I also used to teach him a bit and then he become better than me. We old mans get stomped by the new generation ^^

What is the standard metagame nowadays?

when I played it was all about either going Huns 1v1 Arabia / GA, or any combination of proxy buildings that usually killed me straight out. Anything changed in this regard?

Thanks ^_^

1v1 Huns, Aztecs or Mayans is the standard now. Usually huns go either drush (dark age rush with 3-5 militia) or scrush (scout rush). Forwarding is rare these days, because there are only few good forwardes and people know how to defend it. In Aztecs wars it's drush and then fast castle age to Xbows. Mayans drush and then fast castle age to xbows or castle and plumed archers.

People play a lot of water maps or full random. There it's 1v1 Huns or Vikings usually.

It was really a shame that daut stopped playing SC2, i had so much expectation from him to do good being such a AoC legend.
But i guess he doesnt want to play such a competitive game anymore.
I miss the days of Daut vs Grunt... does he still play too?

Grunt was playing still very actively few months back, but he said he would take a break after the WCL ended. WCL was a clan/team tournament with around $10000 prize pool. Now we are eagerly waiting $15000 Land Nomad tournament.

Didn't know AOC was pulling such prizemoney.
When i quit following the scene, back at 2003 (perhaps, too long ago), there was only arbalet cup and nothing else i can remember. Teamleagues for pride.

Fans have made patches to use AoE in widescreen. It's a must for players with modern big monitors. Although some don't need it, I do.

Really makes me want to play AoE2 once again. Too bad I only own Empire earths. That'll have to do.

I think most of the prople played AOE just casually and for fun without a gameplan or build orders like we "grew up" with at sc2 so it would be awesome if you could teach us the basics of the game on your level. Do u produce workers nonstop until a certain amount? How many workers for which ressources and when do you need what. Are there certain BO´s like in SC2 that everyone knows at a certain level? I would love to see something about that!

Watched this stream a ton today, I gotta say I really like that you give a lot of commentary as you play and I also really enjoyed your casting of Daut vs Viper and Viper vs Wonder matches. Keep it up!

Take a look and carefully read this thread: http://aoczone.net/viewtopic.php?f=101&t=33730

If this is the colour problem that you have, that is also the fix.

Thank you for the compliments. I really appreciate all the feedback I get and take notes.

Special thanks to MrBitter who tweeted our stream and made the view count go crazy. I really wanted to show appreciation by just streaming as good as possible and trying to commentate the game so everyone could understand. If you MrBitter need coaching for Age of Empires 2, make sure to ask me if you want it for free.

Thanks everyone, I will be streaming more tomorrow.

I've been looking around, but haven't found an answer anywhere online. Why must you go lumbercamp first in tourney play? Is it BM to not to in multiplayer? Is it economically better to do so?

Basically going some other building first in LAND NOMAD MAP is considered as cheating. Just because going barracks first with aztecs for example finish the game right there.

It's only banned in Land Nomad games at rated by community and in tournaments it's entirely banned on Land Nomad maps. Otherwise you can decide what you want to build first.

Building lumber camp first is more economical, because you don't have to gather wood from the straggler woods which have a space to town center when the forest wood is usually next to the lumbercamp.

The Problem was that Microsoft stopped supporting it and players never got directed at correct place. It's healthy community and actually growing. Just having sign up's open for a $15000 tournament and $5000 show match is hosted this weekend Saturday 19 GMT on my channel.

Great stream!
I played AoC a lot back in the days on zone.com.
Remember big names like Arch_Koven_ and pG_Bravo.
But why do you play AoK instead of AoC?

At the moment it's by far the best place to get recorded games, patches, recent news about the community and tournament information. I am biased on the matter, because I am an admin there, but I don't see any good competition either. www.voobly.com is the best place to look rating ladders.

Awesome stream!

I remember the old days when FOPT clan was super active and mr-fix-it-online was the place to be :D

Are there active clanleagues going on at the moment or is the competitive teamgames scene dead? It would be awesome to see some teamgames, 3v3 and such. So much variety in maps and strategies to see... fast castle, slinging, drushing to name just a few....ahhh the nostalgia

Great job, Dreams! I enjoy watching your stream a lot, I didn't even know there is still a scene for AOC out there, and at such a high level of play! Maybe I should try to ask some of my friends if we should switch our SC2-sessions to AOC.

I remember FOPT times too and good old Mr.Fixit Highlights. There are multiple active clan leagues. For example RTS-league and AoCLiga.

If you want to see recent competitive team games, look here: http://aoczone.net/viewforum.php?f=487

And because you might be interested, here are games from Halen, Grunt and Kkab from few months back: http://aoczone.net/viewtopic.php?f=426&t=69557

Excellent, exactly what we want. Viewer wise I am doing surprisingly well considering how young my stream is. I am having so much help from different people in advertising that the view count is rising rapidly. Please let your friends know about the stream and the game. It's still very healthy and we have really friendly community in AoCZone to get you started.

You can find games at www.voobly.com which is the most popular for good players. Then there is www.gameranger.com which is for noobs. The problem at Voobly is that people tend to avoid "0 games" who haven't played games, because they are afraid of being smufed. In gameranger there is no such problem I think.

probably, but perhaps you can buy it via amazon (.com?)
http://www.amazon.com/Age-Empires-II-Gold-Edition-Pc/dp/B00005N9A7/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1332972463&sr=8-2

15-19€ depending on country..

1) I really wish that the new add on forgotten realms lowers the lag in AoE. If I play a 1vs1 with an other german the game runs perfectly but as soon I as the game is like a 4vs4 with different nations it lags, and if you find your sheep & boar late then, it puts you even further behind because you have to make them release their food manuelly to continue vill production but due to the delay it makes you lose food everytime you do it.. annoying.

and 2) I really wish they would rework the replay system.. it kinda sucks. (the game time fast is too fast and normal is too slow, and late game the fast speed becomes automaticly normal speed... wtf)

Dreams, awesome stream. You always did a lot for the aoc comunity, I am glad your stream runs so well

I am trying to work on it. I think it's good, but I want it to be very good. And the problem for me compared to other AoE streamers is that I use widescreen patch. It demands more quality from my stream. Thanks for the feedback.

Thank you for the kind feedback. I will keep trying to improve my stream. Updated playlists for today and worked on my info part with help from "AgeofEmpires2".

It would really improve your stream, because you were streaming team games and it is nice additional information to know what they are chatting with each other, i could only catch what you would read into the mic.

Besides that it is very demanding on the eyes, i got exausted to watch it a dozen minutes into the stream. Its not like SC2 on low quality were it is all more clean cut, better graphics etc.
AOC have smaller units etc.

Otherwise keep the good work, it made me so nostalgic.

Edit: Maybe you should lower ingame sound too when you are casting reps or spec. I think it was really loud at some points. It hurts more when you commentate.

Daut is not playing SC2 now, He will be on next saturday in an AoC showmatch vs Jordan23, streamed by Dreams, BO21 the winner takes US5k , He is at college, so no time for being relevant in SC2, but He is top in AoC like always. The expansion called Forgotten Empires will be release this year, I dont remember, maybe 4 or 5 new civs.

Download some 1v1 games on www.aoczone.net and copy build orders and starts. Most common strats with huns (most civ played) on Arabia (most played map):
- 22 pop scout rush
- drush+archer
- drush+fast castle
- Forward and all its variations

You can find info on AoCZone.
Also, watch Dreams stream. He is playing 1v1 games and it can help you to know build orders and timings.

I recommend to you, to start playing on www.gameranger.com (where all noobs play) to know game mechanics, counter units, maps, etc and then try to play on www.voobly.com , where all pro players play. Voobly has ladder system, and new players ( 0/0/0 stats) are not well welcomed, so try to play with some friends to get some stats.

AoC is an amazing game, the most competitive RTS with SC2.

Somehow when I played I never thought of using patrol. Stop, by the way, is nowhere near what I was looking for.
Eagerly awaiting Techies.

why not? it makes your units attack automatically, you can hit it as soon as you come in range after your move command....or are you a lazy terran bio player from sc2 who needs his a-move so badly? ^^

Sorry for the problems with todays stream. I got a new connection and I wanted to offer the best quality possible, but for some reason a lot of players with good connections had occasional freezing. I am clueless at the moment.

I have 10mb upload and Intel i-2500k processor overclocked.

I use xsplit with following settings

Bittrate: 2500 Buffer: 3000
Quality: 10

Reso: 1088x612

Symptoms were freezing for 50% and other side was no lag at all. It didn't drop frames at all.

I apologize for the bad performance, but I want my stream to be the best possible in the future, so I try to improve it all the time.

This was my first RTS so it's pretty exciting for me that it's still around. Do people play in slower than maximum speed? It would be so much better for competition played in the fastest speed. I always thought it could have (or still could?) be a real good esport if there were custom maps instead of the silly random maps, which have both positional balance problems and a lack of important control points for interesting play.

Normal speed, not turbo and about the maps, always the top experts go to the finals, randomness in the maps is which makes the game one of the best RTS out there, it is not about timing BO and pushes, it is about adaptation+ strategy + micro and macro skills.

Yeah i also think the random maps is what made AOC so good, it adds depth to the game, not solid timings or abusing certain map spots.

Thank you for this stream! It's always very interesting to see the more serious and complicated aspects of games that fly a bit under the radar as esports - I've always loved AOE2, even played multiplayer a lot with friends, but we never dared playing competitively.

Scouting and using the random map itself (if I understand correctly, even competitive maps are randomly generated?) is an aspect of the game that is just not present in Starcraft, and I'm very intrigued by it right off the bat. Does this lead to serious imbalances or particularly interesting scenes in competitive play? Could some of the commenters here direct me towards some worthy VODs of high level games? (preferably featuring this aspect, or just giving a good overview of the game being played competitively)

538, watch Dreams stream right now. 2 of the best players are playing for a US$5,000 pot. Is best of 21 games, so you can learn a lot of this stream now.

Best of 21??? Is that common? (Possibly to reduce the role of random maps?) What is the average game length?
(Also, I'd rather watch the ISL qualifiers, and don't feel like concentrating on learning a new game right now, so I'd still appreciate if you directed me towards proven VODs. But thanks nonetheless for the tip, I've watched some of it.)

There's only been one other best of 21, a grudge match between Daut and Chris who are regarded as two of the best (both top 3-5) players of all time.

This is the second one, as Jordan just recently overtook Daut as number 1 on the Voobly ladder.

Unfortunately his stream has just been removed for some ungodly reason.

The traffic appears to have clogged up aoczone as well.

That's the message I first saw when it went down, but a few minutes later is said the channel was removed. I hope it's just a case of it being restricted.

Will you continue the games now and just upload the videos tomorrow, or save the streaming for later? Will you continue on twitch.tv?

But on a more positive note, thank you guys for tuning in, I had a new record of 1300+ viewers at the same time, and 5 great games from Daut vs Jordan so it wasn't in vein. I am sure if I open a new stream if this one is closed, that I can get the partnership in no time.

I will continue streaming at Twitch.tv if possible on the old channel. We will see. No more streaming today, they play only game #6 and #7 anyway and then reschedule, so not a huge loss.

this must be an aprils fool....i mean Idra has 15k viewers and has music on all the time....ok mb its because the music idra listens to, sounds like made by monkeys raping a synthesizer and noone else listens to it anyway....

i think the more mainstream the music is the higher is the risk of being taken down.
for example sometimes there is stuff from lady gaga or red hot chilli peppers on your stream.
i think if you would reduce it to maybe an internet radio with trance like the di.fm trance channel, you should be on the save side. or maybe some cool dj mixes who are distributed public anyway.
and also if a dj modifies the track in his mixes (what they have to do to make the start and the end of a song fit with the next one) its not original anymore and isnt a part of the copyright.

i hope to see you online again as soon as possible !

and do not worry, as soon as you are online again we will make sure you get this contract with twitch !!!!

Oh man, I just visited the stream just now (had it bookmarked) and saw it was taken down. Copyright infringement? How do some of jtv movie channels get way with what they are doing? I've seen some of the latest 2012 movies being aired there. How is Family Guy allowed to air? The Office channel airs the latest episodes...

No matter what I ask, their only answer is this

Greetings,

When content is removed from the site due to DMCA takedown requests it is because we have gotten contact by the copyright holders and they have specifically requested that the content be taken down, due to them physically witnessing that their material had been infringed upon.

As far as our guidelines, you can find them here: http://www.justin.tv/user/dmca. If you have an account or see a channel that has been suspended due to copyright infringements, understand what we cannot restore accounts who have been banned in this method, unless it actually was a false takedown.

Regards,

Hey guys ... had to reset my password just to comment! Huge AOK fan although i was mostly about the DeathMatch ( even helped perfect the cluster in AOK with sarracen against those damn frank rushes)...

Anyways i fell asleep yesterday and woke up this morning to find that this channel has been banned for a day, incredibly pissed. Specially since that whole " due to them physically witnessing that their material had been infringed upon" wtf is that? they have some creep all day checking streams?.

Furthemore, keep streaming, and if we need to act like a swarm, let us know, the SC2 have managed it and no one can handle a full inbox of raging nerds emails clamoring for something.

(maybe someone can help me down memory lane.... the names i remember playing that were pretty good/famous( i had like 20 names ranging from ATCT_Teuton to Major_Spike......DevilZ_Baron, Major_Eloff( we made a very good 2 v 2 team), Major_Paly, Arch_Koven, SamDeathwalker ( i actually googled this guy the other day and was disturbed where he ended up), ykhii, maimin_matty, VampireAA....

Such good times...

Shit, I was watching this stream for a while - support for any streamers that show older RTS, especially competitive.

If the sole reason for closing the account was music, then please open new account and stream again without such music.

I know you mentioned there is another patch/user-made expansion coming out this year (!), but which is the currently used patch? I haven't played in a while and I know that when I first considered patching at one stage, I didn't, because I didn't agree with the way that the patch tried to address some issue (I don't recall what). :Þ
It seems that 2.0a is the last official patch, but there are supposedly patches 2.0b, 2.0c and maybe 2.0d released as unofficial patches, although maybe they were AoK rather than The Conquerors.
Neither www.aoczone.net (which has JUST gone down for me now :/) nor http://ageofempires.wikia.com seem to have patch information for me to read either.
Is there a best site to refer to for information or AoK:The Conquerors downloads? (such as say www.aoczone.net when it doesn't happen to have just gone down)

EDIT: www.aoczone.net JUST came up on the last refresh before I was going to close the site, so 1.0e is the latest Conquerors patch then?

Playing with 1.0e in Voobly is irrelevant because Voobly will install it's own patch over your official 1.0c patch and unofficial 1.0e patch. 1.0c patch will cause less problems with Voobly.

did anyone make a LAN latency mod like ICCUP for BW? I can see it getting very frustrating to play AOE with lag

I think something similar will be done for Forgotten Empires.

It was horrible product which should have never been made for the sake of Age of Empires series.

So what is the reason behind of you not playing ads on your stream?
Since every stream has them. I'm curious.

Enjoying the nostalgia immensely, very interesting to see how the game works on a higher than noob vs AI level.

Is there a way to watch vods of the showmatch people are talking about now that you're on a new channel?

Also, didn't there use to be supply depots in AoC?

Only users with Partnership can play add's. My previous stream was removed, so I have to start collecting my viewers again. I will propably start playing add's. People can either support or use ad-block. Their decision

The VOD's were deleted by Twitch.tv. So it's not possible to watch them. VOD's from next matches will be available when they are played.

I have been featured in leading Germany E-Sports website: http://www.readmore.de/index.php?cont=streams&id=247

I hope to be featured in TL after I have tried applying for Twitch.tv partnership. Then I can offer different resolutions. At the moment the community and people watching are the thing that limits the quality I can offer.

Remember this evening 20 GMT Daut vs Jordan BO21 Showmatch for $5000 prize pool!

Oohhh yeah this is awesome.

By the way I want to ask: What are the general thoughts on AoE3 inside the AoE2 scene? Is it better / worse? I always thought AoE3 had a much more active multiplayer competition but apparently it's the other way around.

Great stuff DreaIVIS love seeing AoC kicking and alive again, bring backs alot of mermorys. Were you around for the early parts of AoE and AoK up unitl AoC, cause you're playing with a lot of old school players who were great at AoC. If you were, you probabaly played with some RCF clan members . Still remember when MFO was the biggest website for AoC, got to love the DarQ clan for that (pretty much was the team liquid for AoC). God I miss some of those tourny between Koven and Grunt, some great times. O not to forget Chris, Iron, Stalin, Out4Blood, and Daute, all who were some awesome players. And not to forget some of the awesome clans back then too, StorM, RiZeN, L_Clan, DjiNN, RCF, DarQ, and many others (and there were a lot of other famous clans/players that pre dated these, so sorry if I didn't include some of them).

Battle for #1 has been CANCELLED for today.

Players have decided to reschedule. They will inform me with a new time and date when they know. They couldn't answer yet. It's possibly going to be next week.

I am really sorry for all the fans who were anticipating today's games. This is a really sad moment for me, because all the advertising and work was already done and we were also featured at Teamliquid event calendar already, which is mostly because of great fan called gwaihir. It was a really sad moment for me to cancel the event at TL. Luckily they will support us still in the future.

Sincere apologies to everyone who looked forward to this.

you can see the actual ratings in www.voobly.com and some of the historical ratings (from zone) in www.aoczone.net , usually in AoC, 2 players are the only ones who worth 2.6k in rating: _DauT_ and L_Clan_Chris, two real legends of the game now there are new experts with 2.5k Ratings: Jordan, Viper, Tim,and RiuT (altough he is only semi active), everyone above 2.2k is considered an expert but cant match any of the guys I told before in a serie of matches. Dreams used to be an 2.4k expert, maybe top ten two years ago. Daut and Chris have one advantage over the other experts, they play every civ and map near to perfection. In AoC you use elo rating that begins in 1600 and if you win vs an equal player in points then you win 16 points and he loses them.

jesus christ I've bought like 6 copies of this game over the years and I can't fucking find any of them. Want to play so badly now

Edit: found one, fought with it for half a day before getting it the hell to work. Played a bunch, loving it.

Also watched a bunch of the pro games. In a way I can't quite seem to articulate, the aesthetics of high level AoC seem very pleasing to me. Very organic and natural feeling, but not in the gross hippie way. Kind of reminds me of Supreme Commander, weirdly.
Odds.633, AM. Plat level currently. Would love more practice partners, add me, let's play!

watching some epic ship battles. aren't longboats a good choice since you're vikings, or are they just not a good unit? also since people clump their galleons would it be a good idea to get heavy demo ships? i think the Chinese have some bonus for them. Usually I do well with Saracens because their galleons fire something like 33% faster, and they have the range/armor/speed/dry dock upgrades.

You could go longboats if you are in disadvantage becuase they are produced faster, but Daut never got enough Docks to make it work, so He stuck to Galleons and not spend any resource in longboat upgrades.

Oh man! You're making me so jealous! I spent all of my time playing this game back in the day, and just seeing you play it now, especially at such a high level, makes me want to pull it out again. Unfortunetely I don't have the time . That's OK though, I can live my dream vicariously through you.

I am really trying to do that, but sometimes the game gets so high level that II can't help myself to overanalyze the situation ^^

Usually I do well with Saracens because their galleons fire something like 33% faster, and they have the range/armor/speed/dry dock upgrades.

Longboats cost more gold than galleys and they are quite egual with Galleons. The biggest advantage you get with longboat is that you can produce them a lot faster and keep them in a small place so they are a really good option if you have better economy and you need to retake water.

If you love a game, why not play it for fun. Play some Sim City now and then and relax. I hope the streams actually give you some satisfaction ^^

And to everyone, thank you so much for the feedback. The broadcast was total carbage today with the stream dropping and then the gaming client dropped me even my connection was fine. Still you sticked through. Thank you

I hope to get featured, but I will ask it when I get my stream quality up where I want it.

I don't think so. I think it's just views. When I looked at unique visitors I had like 10000 unique visitors at one day. So might be close to that number.

I can't watch any of the previously streamed videos. They just don't even begin to load and a black box is all I get.

I am really enjoying your stream, especially since AoE 2 is one of my favourite childhood games and it is nice to get some insight in the competitive aspect of it

However in the recording you just said "if you can't win games without stealing [boars], learn to play", to which I have to disagree.
If you can get away with it there is no reason not to do so, except if the needed actions actually harm you more than your opponent. In a competitive game you play for the win, nothing else.
So I'd rather say "If you can't deal with your enemy stealing, learn to play".

Note that I don't play myself, so if you have a good explanation why you shouldn't steal, I am willing to retract my statement, since you obviously have way more experience.

edit: I think you said that more because you were pissed off than anything else, but the point still stands ^^

There is no ultimate truth because it's more of an opinion question. I deal with the stealing every time and don't rage. I just consider it extremely amusing how some players intentionally leave their base to search for something to steal instead of checking the map and scouting your opponent. I feel that the more skilled player scouts his opponent and builds his strategy upon that. Some players just count in stealing and doing the standard like a robot.

I agree and I disagree with you.

nothing wrong with boar stealing, it's just simple harrasement. its like cursing a terran for building a bunker at your natural (TvZ)
so you have to pull drones, annoying as fuck but still just harrasement to make the zerg feel uneasy.
well planned harrasement-based builds are for me as good as pure macro-based builds. of course only if the harrrasement is well thought out and has nice follow ups. I kinda agree that its just stupid with a player who is gonna steal your boar no matter what with no thought behind, just doing it for the sake of it :D

I played a relatively high level, and these guys were around when I played.... BTW stealing ur opponents boars was a common practice amongst all high level players, and for you to say that just gives insight to the level of ur thoughts rather than the level of the player you are talking about.

I have been around for 10 years and over 8 years at 2000+ ELO rating. I have a pretty good insight about the game. I also know almost every good player who has played Age of Empires 2. What was your nickname? I figure you would have mentioned it if you were really at "relatively high level".

Stealing the boar has never been like "a must" thing to do. There are players who do it and players who don't.

I don't understand that what do you mean with your last sentence. I have pretty good arguments in my opinion that I gave earlier and I will stick by it. Although I am able to change my thoughts if you just bring something rational to the conversation.

You can drop the stream quality from the resolution drop down menu. Just look for "720" in the channel window and you should find more resolutions.

About the event:

It was the best show so far today by far! Luckily Xsplit 1.0 didn't give problems today. ZeroEmpires is such a great co-caster and we had the 2000 viewers again.

Thanks to Teamliquid for featuring the tournament and supporting E-Sports

I died horrible some seconds after that.

Great stream. It's fun to see the childhood games being played by someone who actually knows what he's doing ^^

I'm with Dreams. Boar stealing has never been common. It usually comes and goes in phases (usually around big 1v1 tournaments) and is only used consistently by a few players.

I don't have a problem with it though. If you can do it without messing up you're own eco, go for it.

Race balances aren't perfect at the moment. Huns are overpowered at Arabia map which is one of the most used maps in 1v1 ladder. Vikings rule water maps. Otherwise it's pretty balanced I believe. The new expansion will fix these issues.

Basically Huns for example are a really aggressive civilization and Aztecs are turtle civ. I will go more in debth later. Streaming atm.

I didnt play/buy the previous AoE games, so my question now: Do I have to buy the main game AoE (which is ~10 years old) or the main game is already in Forgotten Empires?

The games will continue with third sett on Wednesday 14 GMT! The serie is tied 5-5 at the moment.

So far we have seen the best Age of Empires 2 we have ever seen until this point.

The 5 most highest voted maps except for Land Nomad were picked as the last five maps. Jordan and Viper veto LN because it has been played so much recently. Tune in and spread the word! www.twitch.tv/aoewithdreaivis

1. 2v2 you can find constantly in the ladder. It's not played as often as it was used to be.
2. You can play the game online at www.voobly.com and www.gameranger.com. Personally I prefer Voobly because the best players are there. Gameranger might be more noob friendly.

Today's stream will consist of:

I will unbox the new Age of Empires 2: Forgotten Empires- expansion. Naturally, because it's free, there wont be real unboxing, but I will install it for the two best clients at the moment, which would be Voobly and Gameranger.

The Forgotten Empires has been released but the work is not done according to the developers. I will check how it looks at the moment and how the balance is. Of course when you play a new game there are always things that are unbalanced at start. I will leave the campaigns for those who want to play them. I am not interested in them, so I wont play them today.

I will also play Age of Empires 2: The Conquerors Expansion to get some competitive games between AoFE games.

Check out the clients at www.voobly.com and www.gameranger.com.

You can download the official Age of Empires 2: Forgotten Empires here http://www.forgottenempires.net/

I will find out how hard it is to make it work at Voobly.

I will start around 15 GMT. Follow me at www.twitch.tv/aoewithdreaivis.

I have played Age of Empires 2 and the conquerors as well. I would love it, if you could make something happen with Age of Empires 3 as well. That is the game that I enjoy the most playing.

Unfortunately I wont have enough time for AoE3 at the moment. I didn't enjoy it that much either, sorry.

No I don't unfortunately, I found it really frustrating game to play with the economy management and such. I don't know anyone else who would stream it either. I can try to find out.
