Hello, all! Spanishiwa here :D. Just wanted to make a thread advertising my stream on TeamLiquid. It's a pretty laid-back stream, where I show ladder games, tournament games, and customs as I try to develop new styles/strategies.
You might have seen me from MrBitters 12 weeks with the Pros, or a random tournament/koth! Apparently I have a very unique style, so be sure to check me out !
Every day from 1:30-5:00 pm PST (usually on during the night too, but not as consistently)
Be sure to follow me on Justin.tv! I am also in the process of setting up a Youtube account where I'll be uploaded FPVODs and possibly commentaries. TeamLiquid user stream thread is here, and my (currently non-featured) TeamLiquid stream is here. Some casters have picked up my games as well, so look for them on Youtube! CricketStarcraft and Force Strategy Gaming have a nice collection for example.
I enjoyed learning about your style on Mr. Bitter's stream tonight. Great stuff. As a random player, I am excited by your lack of convention in all the different MUs and by your hope that hatch first will become standard in ZvZ.
Wicked awesome player! Very talented and knowledgeable with Zerg as well as other races. Identifying the build orders of his opponent and having the ability to counter anything that comes his way! Very informative to watch and learn the best race (ZERG) from Spanishiwa!!
You have really good micro skills. Your infestor usage is awe-inspiring. The fact that you 4gated some protoss while playing zerg should be the only fact needed to get you fans.
I became a fan. Will check the stream out as soon as it's live. The builds you showed to Mr.Bitter, are just awesome... Whether they are the best or not, doesn't matter. They are a different style ! And thats rare and hard to find for a zerg race.
beautiful game1 vs dde in the reddit tournament today. really remembered me why i play zerg. too bad you had badluck with posis in game3. do you think you could make a replaypack of your recent 1.3 games avaible, your games are so fun to watch!
Not sure if you remember me, but I played against you once while you were coaching someone. I was pretty impressed by your out of the box thinking in ZvT, and I look forward to watching some of your games. gl hf!

Ok ok Spanishiwa, after seing you on Mrbitter's Stream. Screw Ret's, Idra's, Nestea's, Morrow's Borring macro style. Hurray for Spanishiwa, Spanishiwa Fight!ng !
Couple of questions I've got about your ZvZ and ZvT that I saw on MrBitter's coaching sesson:
In your ZvZ, you like to make 3 queens or so, with about 2 crawlers at ramp and just drone hard. As we saw in game 2, he lost to some speedling all in... what would be your response for this? Since you don't plan to put down a roach warren until lair, and you don't get ling speed either... I don't see how you can hold off any sort of pressure without building some sort of units. This is just from what I've seen; I'm sure you would react accordingly if you scouted his aggression but I'm curious as to what your exact response would be.
Also, in ZvT, you don't get speed for lings until 2nd 100 gas (after starting lair). So you rely on queen and crawlers to hold off any early pressure? What about some sort of Marauder/Hellion allin, or an early tank/marine push, or any bio push for that matter. I feel because you take your gas so late (4 all at once) you won't have speed in time, and would struggle vs some early attack. Also the lack of speedlings mean that even a few hellions will completely deny you of map control/vision. It seems you can't really scout until lair... I don't know, maybe it's just not my style - I like having speedlings around the map all the time, but I certainly like the mass queen and infestor tech switch.
Absolutely LOVED the mass queen defense vs jemag's 5 gate, that was awesome as hell. I'll definitely be trying some of your builds, but with some slight tweaks
@valckrie I will be releasing a replay pack show casing my play style/builds as well as a guide for what has been affectionately dubbed 'The Ice Fisher' build (16 hatch 15 pool delayed gas) very soon, so watch out for it!
I got a question about your build. Assuming your hatch gets delayed. What i did was pool>gas>queen/speed (stop mining gass at 100)>get hatch + 2ed queen> once hatch is done get 2x queens...and again at ~40 take 4 gaysers (in this case +3)...
Is there a better way you do this ? Since i end up with a bit to much gas naturally Maybe add only 2 gas or something...
Spanishiwa's stream is extremely good at providing a bit of innovative play for all Zergs out there. Definitely good strats and ideas going on at Span's stream. Good stable builds and effective game play style. It gives Zergs another element to add to their game and it definitely throws off the opponent, no matter what race.
Not gonna lie, watching his stream has helped my own gameplay not just in style but also adjusting my mechanics differently and being more effective. Watch his Mr Bitters tutorial video and watch his stream!
Just watched some great games vs. FireZerg! Great holds vs. mass lings...transitioning into infestor/roach/ultra? Then another game of pure textbook infestor play along with more early hold! Great stuff!
vileSpanshwa deserves to be a featured streamer. Maybe is quality isn't the greatest but his play style is very unique. Probably the best creep spread I've ever seen.
Wow. Spanishiwa is now TOP 5 IN THE WORLD. Congrats to getting there only using creative and sick play. If you haven't seen him play, you gotta tune into his stream to see his queen usage and micro.
deserves to be featured imo. highly ranked, creative play, did some stuff with mr bitter. i don't want to have to keep checking the "non-featured" streams to see if he's up
probably one of the only zergs worth watching nowadays. He's got great mechanics and micro. Plays innovatively, good music. Doesn't 8 pool half his games which i like
I feel like Spanishwa should be featured, such a solid zerg, decent stream quality, and he explains his thought process as he plays, so it's a pretty great learning experience for bad zergs. [me :3] Also, he has the awesome thread in the strategy forum :D
Hey, any toughts on using the first queen energy to spread creep INSIDE your main base, like, not to connect to the natural, just to spot drops on ZvT and deal with them better... It seems like it would help with this obvious flaw on the sweet ice fisher build :D Oh, and you should experiment a little more with burrowed banelings ^^
Not sure why this guy isn't featured yet, anyone who gets props by Day9 and a bunch of other notables because of his awesome style AT LEAST deserves a featured. Besides, he actually talks with pretty much his entire viewer-base, and it's not just like 50 people. gm too.
The most fun to watch zerg play I've ever seen. Saw my first game with Spanishiwa yesterday and today I've been looking for every game I can find. Nydus, mass queens, burrowed banelings, infestors... Very innovative gameplay. Gotta love it!
Hey I've checked out your replay pack. Nice to watch. Anyway, I noticed your build doesn't seem to work well on Xel Naga ZvP. You seem to lose every match on that map because your spines can't cover the open natural entirely.
Don't you think a change of tactics is required here?

Yup, I noticed he dies a little more on open natural maps and to some early-mid game attacks.
Spanishiwa, I honestly think you are going to be one of the greats. You are making Starcraft II an art, and I think the majority of the community truly appreciates that.
I love your no gas FE builds. My younger bro totally owned me today in ZvZ using your "ice fisher" build. You can be sure i'm gonna make this my go to ZvZ build. can't wait to hit the ladder and practice your no gas FE builds in all my match ups. ...perhaps it will finally take me out of single digit plat and into Diamond
Very inpressive playstyle. Enjoy the stream keep it up. Love the nydus play you have been working in to your play. Just dont forget to scout early people are starting to realize your strat and abuse it. I pitty anyone that trys to take a game in to the late game with you... You work so hard to get all your games to the late game that you have 10x the experiance that most people have.
Nice work with Day[9] today And your stupidly amazing no gas build actually works! Was trying it out today :D Thank you for teaching me something new. Amazing stream too +1.
I like to thank you a lot for your vids! Eventhough I'm not fully adapting your strategy, you made me so aware of my balance in gas/minerals you really showed me the light.
For months now I'm stuck in Platinum keeping my ratio exactly at 50% in a 1win,1loss type of fashion. Most of my games I had the trouble that my minerals were too high compared to gas.. I use 1 gas (I really like speedlings) but I use your timing to get the other 3. It works tremendously! I won my last 10/11 games. I never had these huge winning streaks before.
With ease really. The one game that I did lose was an unfortunate mistake I could/should have prevented. I'm facing diamond now in every match and still win. I'm playing so much more confident now. Thanks again!
dude, tonight this stream was the best (impromptu) event ever, day9 chat, funday mondaying fxo players, combatex bringing on the hate on day9 and spanishiwa while watching the stream, tyler playing with new keybinds then lols-bming
watched your game on metalopolis where you nydus wormed your queens all the way to his base and traded mains while smashing face with broodlords and queens. Soooo epic.
lolol Spanishiwa vs. cannon-rushing, streamhacking, superraging CombatEx made my week. Plus Day[9] taking shots at CombatEx in the background made me lol even more.

sincerely not your #1 fan
Seriously, what is the point of writing that? You have the right to not like him, but don't be a dick here please.
Keep the good work Spanishiwa, the session with day9 and Tyler was epic, kept me from going to bed till 4am (EU).
he should add /sarcasm at the end of the post.

Hes just an attention whore troll, he wasnt raging.

I just watched the Day9 daily that you were in and I gotta say that you are such a baller! I can't wait to try out some of these strategies on ladder as they look so cool (and effective as well if you know what you're doing).

Looking forward to your return sir.

If Husky lets you know when he will upload cast of your Showmatch with WhiteRa can you tweet or post here about it please.
I would also like to know more about your Chess background, know you played seriously was curious about your rating/ranking [ELO, FIDE, or USCF] and preferred openings & defenses if you don't mind me asking.
I know several high level SC2 players are or were into chess, I just find that interesting.
BTW if your still into chess lookup CT Art [aka Chess Tactics Art] best tactics/middlegame learning tool I have found for chess. Better than playing IMHO.
Hey, tonight I kept getting kicked from the chat but I don't know what I was doing to incite trouble. I thought it was swearing at first but then I saw others swearing and getting away with it. Can someone from the chat link me the rules or something?
lol, what would spanishiwa do when he already has a 200 army, bring all drones, build 20 spores, build army and cancel all the spores, continue mining.... then he said: u think u can beat my 220 army? lolololol
great stream. good quality, good game theory while playing, and good explanations during play. really helps me understand the thought processes of a zerg player. makes me want to play zerg now. have learned a lot after watching.
You might want to unmod Cowerinfear.. 1st of all, he calls you a bitchy whiner that does nothing but whine about other people instead of learning to play..
2ndly, he bans people for saying stuff he doesn't agree with. Like "Idra is good" = ban.
One thing is not trolling, another one entirely is to be unable to talk about SC2 in a pro-gamers SC2 stream because the mods simply don't want people to talk.
Not a partnered member with JustinTV yet?! You should be putting some commercials... make some summer money from all the gaming. Or are you still 17 ? I'm sure JTVcould work something out...
where have u been at mr spanishiwa, i miss ya man!!, I love watching your stream and your innovative play style. Please stream more often... thanks. PS are you going to mlg Raleigh? i know you went to anaheim but that was too far for me i was hoping i would get to see ya play in person. thanks spanishiwa fighting!!!
Apologies if this has been covered, but what's with the text on his game UI? (like resource numbers, game timer etc - it looks different)
Is it just his stream program doing that, or is there something I can edit to change my in-game fonts? Is it because he's playing on a different region from North America?
Tuned into Spanishiwa's stream for the first time earlier today. I really enjoyed it! Love the running commentary - yet another awesome Zerg streamer who commentates, along with Sheth and Idra (sometimes).
Was absolutely hilarious watching him on webcam as he was talking to a student of his - the student had their voice-changing mod on, but they didn't know, so everyone in the stream was absolutely ROFL-ing thinking that he was just trolling. But it turns out he was legit, and he even streamed the lesson for us all. Really great stuff, will be tuning in again.

He is at University. I believe he is studying to be an engineer, so he has little time for SC2 anymore. Sadly the idea of Spanishiwa ever competing at a high level are most likely dead T.T
I especially like the stuff you've done lately: streaming your personal practice/analysis sessions where you watch replays, taking notes -- generally diving into the deep end.
It's fascinating (and helpful) to see the process and not just the conclusions.
After switching to zerg from toss, one of the hardest things to get used to is having units all over the map (GG deathball and some observers) and after watching you stream today I haven't seen a zerg that switches so seemlessly from injects, forward overlords, infestors in his base, burrorwed units, creep tumors all over the map.
But you only seemed to have 5 hotkeys?!?! am I missing something like different keybinds, or were you rly doing all that with just those keybinds? anyway great stream great player, hope to watch you more often!
