Hey, I am going to start streaming ladder games and possibly do some commentating in the future. I'm a Terran player, and I play multiple styles, often alternating between bio and mech, and bio mech! As well as some other crazy things !
I often play and beat a lot of the well known names on the NA ladder, so hopefully I can show ggs on stream!
Still working out the kinks of getting my stream set up optimally, so any tips/tricks on that is appreciated! (I definitely need them )
also, please give me feedback about quality/audio/whatever else.

And I don't know if I have settings set up properly or a good enough connection to stream mic audio with video+game audio...unless i'm doing something entirely wrong or there are more optimal settings, I should prob post my comp specs -_-

So far from some feedback the quality is watch-able, but it's not to the point where text can be read clearly.
yooooo, just updating, I should be streaming everyday now starting around 10 a.m. EST, as well as later in the day around 3 pmish, and stream going up now !
As far as tips for your stream are concerned, you might want to try justin.tv and see how they fare with your computer. Their stream setup appears pretty easy, and everyone seems to enjoy the stream quality over at justin.tv too.
Also, the chat client for livestream lags players. Not sure if you have had that happen to you yet, but I know it was common with other streamers.

but, stream quality could be better, although you can see the game no problem, it would be nice to see who your playing when the game load screen is loading, and bnet screens etc etc,

To put things in perspective....45-100 viewers in non-featured Tl stream, roughly 20 comments in this post in about 2 months, and 23,000 votes at nasl in under 2 weeks. You're not on a team, you haven't ever won anything, you play very predictable, long, and boring games in each matchup. Don't mean to sound like a total troll and i'm not trying to say your not good enough for nasl, but watching you play puts me to sleep and you got 1st in voting.......wtf
Watched avilo's stream for about 10minutes today. After losing to protoss a few times he went to over-the-top crying about protoss imbalance. So between his high-pitched voice raging about imbalance and the banning of 3-4 people in a 2minute period, I promptly left. Less of banning/raging and more playing...just my 2 cents. Good luck!

I just watched avilo try yet another terrible strat vs protoss (socke) and then instead of leaving the game when he was dead, he QQ'd for 5 minutes demanding socke to comment on the balance of the matchup.
Avilo has a lot of manning up to do, as he wont make many fans in the nasl if he whines about balance after trying stupid shit like proxy banshee into only air vs protoss pro gamers. This balance QQing after losing games because you either tried something bad, or executed poorly, or had no map vision is getting old. It's like it seriously doesn't occur to you that maybe proxy banshee transition into mass air vs a real pro gamer is the reason you lost. I think you just had your fun climbing ladder with your mech strats and now that your playing actual pro protoss players you can't understand why your easily scoutable/predictable/slow-moving strats aren't crushing them anymore.
For instance, the very next game after socke beat you, he played vs Cloud. Cloud was down 62 - 42 workers, while socke had the same army composition + dt's and took the middle gold just like he did vs you, and cloud still came back and crushed socke. Why? Because his strategy didn't suck, he was able to use his mules to build an army that isn't a slave to gas like mech, he executed 3-4 well placed EMP in one battle and crushed socke's army with mmm+viking/ghost. He had so many units left over he was able to take out 3 expo's with the same army and win the game. If your going to play strategies that by their definition will auto-lose the game if you get behind or get caught out of position, or are just plain silly, then quit blaming your losses on game balance.
MAN UP and take some responsibility for the way you play, and if you can't do that at least show some class to the viewers, and treat your opponents with respect. It's pathetic to watch a guy cry about balance especially after they clearly handed the game over on a platter.

cool story bro, hope you realize no one plays perfect 24/7 and that in a tournament right after I lost that one I did similar air strategies and lost 1-2 to axslav, winning first game with a 2port, and basically throwing away the second game after a nice advantage. Obviously, i'm still working on that strat, calm down bro.

You should rather focus on all the posters who really appreciate your strats and builds and come to your stream simply because they want to learn from you and enjoy your games.

Yes! I finally am upgrading my computer woo! I have my new hard drive, 8 more gigs of ram, and am getting a new processor in the next two days...so once I have that all installed, working, and in place I will start mass streaming and be consistent with the hours I stream.

I played a nice mech tvp game earlier even with some nukes ^_^
New CPU being installed today. With the upgrades already installed, there's 100% improvement over the old stream, even with the lag/choppiness and audio problems. Woohoo! I'm thinking new CPU will correct any current problems.
i love avilo! watching him play at LANs and online is always entertaining. it's fun to play against him too. i'm sure this stream is going to get popular the more he plays; he's got a lot of talent going for him.
wooo streamed 12 hours straight, lots of tvts and tvz. Hope i do get featured eventually... I'll be streaming every day starting around 1:30 p.m EST, mon/wed/friday i will stream quite a few hours, tues/thurs not as much right now.

I too am surprised avilo is not featured... tbh I hate his personality but his play is good and Ive watched the stream from time to time... he has performed in lans and deserves a spot, imo.
Avilo is a funny guy to watch, and I enjoy his play style. He likes to try a lot of different builds, and he generally explains what he's doing and what he plans on doing.
Even if he only has 10 or 11 viewers, he speaks with us all and commentates his games. I've been tuning in quite often as of late, pretty much every day he's online I throw him up on my TV while doing some work or whatnot.
His mic quality is a bit low, but there are tons of streamers with no mic at all. At least he has one.
Hope this stream gets featured, he definitely deserves more viewers. Will be one of my primary streams to watch when available!
Watching Avilo is like watching Trump or Fargo. I would like to see him featured would be nice. He has some great gameplay and just met Startale Rainbow and went 1:1. Was great game to watch. Good luck Avilo great stream!!!!

I was in a very good position with essentially split map and maxed ghost mech army with 10 nuke silos...3rd and 4th natural gases run out at around 33 minutes, with only remaining ones being the right side of the map. I was in great position if not winning I did win, as he left the game.
As to what may have happened, we won't know because he left frustrated instead of playing the game. You're obviously an idra fanboi if you think playing a standard long macro game is a "jerk move."
To people that watch my stream, i'm sorry i haven't streamed in the last 3-4 days, i have been having problems at home, i'll try to start streaming again as soon as i can.
Just tuned in for the first time and after a few minutes I can say the following: Get a decent microphone (or do whatever is necessary to fix the sub par audio) and you're probably going to become my favorite streamer.
Very fun to watch so far even with crappy audio, though .

Regardless its actually a pretty good stream, some creative play you won't see elsewhere.
Awesome stream. He interacts with the chat a lot, taking suggestions on strategy and gameplay. He did everything from massing reapers to a hellion marauder all in last time. Oh and he nuked 15 broodlords, that was cool too.
Super good player, macro oriented, very good micro and good judgement. Overall a great player, entertaining because he speaks his mind, isn't scared to express himself. Speaks to his viewers as well!

This stream is actually really great. Commentary is solid and quality play. He's also generally entertaining. Not a rage stream, much more chill like Catz or Huk.

I will consider doing that, I usually get it really late game. It's harder to get this upgrade when you go biomech, but i'll try to see if it helps for mech. Usually i get turret range b4 i get building armor (if i ever remember to).
Avilo, your replay packs just got expired from rapidshare, you should re-upload them and refresh your links so everyone can download.
Also, you should consider releasing more replays. I just saw one game of yours on Antiga in your stream, vs a Zerg, that could go both on the nuke pack and the i'm the boss pack :D

He is currently listed under playhem, though (as I have confirmed through talking to him in his stream chat) he was eliminated long ago, and is just laddering (and BM'ing interchangeably, I might add).
I mentioned in his stream chat that he was still listed under playhem daily, thinking it was probably just that he forgot, but he read that and just said something along the lines of "no i'm out of the tourney", without even addressing that he was still listed.

Forgot to change it? What's your conspiracy theory here? Sometimes people forget to take it down, i believe yesterday huk/tsl player had forgotten to take it down too...are you going to go harrass them with torte?

I like how you associate fairness and the highlighting of misconduct with wanting to be a mod. Good intentions = publicly displaying yourself in a justified way so you can be promoted (to a rank that is more pain and nuisance than reward)?

Overall, I think it's unfair to attack marttorn personally and disregard his view or opinion purely because its one you don't agree with (but never clarified what you don't agree with). They're not accusations, they're observations and he clarified how he came about it. I'm not sure what you mean, if you think insinuations are accusations without substance, see above and see who he is referencing (others as well as myself).
Reminders have been posted before though, a few pages back. As you made it clear, we're not policemen nor staff, so we don't make it a duty or anything (lol), but when we notice something we don't like/agree/find reasonable, we'll make a post about it in the stream thread.
Oh and I believe a website feedback topic was made by another person as well.
Why is this guy not featured? He talks to his viewers, does multiple styles at a GM level, and actually explains what hes doing. Good terran stream to watch whether your just looking for entertainment or actually trying to improve.
Seems like he just gets shafted because people don't like his play style. :[

What on earth? Have I offended some very specific fanboy sensibility? I wasn't being hostile, I was trying to be as fair as possible towards something I feel is an actual issue.
If you consider what I wrote a "long post" you should reconsider your definitions and standards. I don't see where the need for such a stupidly snide, defensive post about your favorite streamer arose. As I said, I don't have a single thing against avilo, he's an entertaining player for what it's worth (though my opinion on him is essentially 100% irrelevant in this instance), I wasn't trying to start an argument or anything of the sort. I was voicing a concern. Avilo was somewhat correct in that I perhaps should have gone to website feedback about it, though I had seen similar concerns to mine be raised in this thread before (by torte) and found it appropriate.

I've watched avilo's stream for awhile because it's entertaining, but I agree with what Marttorn said.
Yesterday, a chatter said "Avilo featured?" and someone said because of tournament (he had already been eliminated). Mod said, "Avilo very smart." That leads me to think that what Marttorn said is true. What I disagree with is Marttorn thinking, the one and only post Fishtrout made is a fanboy.
He is a good streamer with a good ear to his community also showing the terran struggles vs protoss oh and yeah you probably will make friend with his nice family Dad and midget as we call them :D

If you've watched my stream you know i don't do that every game. It was late last night and it was time to let some rage out at the shenanigans ^_^.
Also, it's not only me right now that's having trouble with TvP. It's not like i am magically doing anything different from b4, or protosses massively suddenly all got better. Watch other Terran streamers - protoss are having an easy time in PvT right now. You have to massively outplay them to win.
Pre-patch it was virtually the same, it's just that very few protosses were abusing the fact that they never need to attack - ever.
But now a lot of Protosses have come to the realization they never, ever, ever, need to step on your half of the map. They can just sit there twiddling their thumbs spamming that chrono boost on their forges, and when their upgrades are done they magically have an advantage over any Terran player, even if the Terran player is better or was outplaying them for the first half of the game.
Anyways, i rage sometimes because TvP right now is just ridiculously protoss favored, and i suppose i'm one of the few people that is actually talking about it or willing to take some flak for it. Most other Terrans are hiding in their cave, i have a pretty thick skin so i don't mind if a few people take jabs at me if that's what it takes for some accurate information to get out there about the current state of tvp.
That's not to say i only rage about it, i actively am trying to improve my tvp and sc2 skills in general, it's just every now and then after 10 games of losing to protoss players that suddenly got 20x better after a patch...the game becomes depressing and frustrating.
Hope you enjoy the stream i do commentate my play and say my thoughts during the games.
p.s. remember guys, plz don't start using banshees too much and don't get too innovative with nukes/bcs...it'll be put on the blizzard "watchlist" for nerfing due to being "overpowered." Remember, if you're a Terran and learn how to use the units given to you, they will be nerfed for you learning how to play.
p.s. #2 meanwhile, protoss / zerg players will figure out their next broken strategy and be lauded as "very creative" and given a pat on the back lol.

I'm a "terrible player," but we've gone about 50-50 all the way back since the beta. Highly amusing. I'll lurk around in his stream after we play (whether I win or lose) just to hear him call me terrible "I shouldn't have lost that, he's so stupid" or "man he's awful, just ran him over, stupid strategy" etc. etc.

I was mining from my third before you even started yours (you failed to scout it), and I even killed your third before you had a single drone mine from it. You also never took a fourth, I was always up on upgrades, and nearly always up or even on supply. I was intentionally trading armies. My production was twice yours. I only found this one so amusing because you thought you were so ahead, and continually ranted on your stream how you shouldn't have lost, when you had absolutely no chance.
If I wanted to brag though, I would comment on the times I beat your Terran, not your Zerg. Anyways, I'll stop shitting up your topic. I never came here to say you were bad, just that I found it amusing that you always call me bad . Without fail. Pretty much every game I win.

Good question spbelky, I've often watched Avilo's stream [great entertainment and learning] and discovered its not featured, or even listed as "other" even when it has more viewer's than casted games or other pro's streaming at the same time. The "featured-list" indicates active streams as "players." Avilo, does this mean you're not a player...?
Does anyone know how the men-behind-the-curtain of teamliquid.net determine these categorizations?
featured streams are determined by a combination of tournament results/player popularity. There is no set criteria that make a stream featured but generally to make it as a featured player you need to be making championship bracket at MLG (Illusion) beating koreans (Gatored)
to make it as a featured other you need to be fairly well known for something else, PsyStarcraft from youtube commentary for example. (still a high masters player as well)
Far and away one of the most entertaining streamers on team liquid.
Why this guy isn't at the top of the list during his stream's is perplexing. Only thing I could consider as the reason for him not being featured is his chat's mods being total nazi's.

Well, you don't have to have "tournament results" but it's good to. Just need a good viewer count / consistent stream from what the requirements said.

Try to consider this - Avilo's stream has the nicest group of chatters around; however, when someone comes into chat drunk, acting like an idiot, starts with racial slurs and insults the mods, you better believe you're going to get a "timeout." I asked you nicely several times to behave. Had you continued to act as you did, I would not have given you a timeout as Kwi did, you would have been banned for good.
Avilo has many supporters, all of whom act mature and are interested in his expertise. (And learning from his mistakes) They come to the chat to discuss builds and strats, and to learn. You were being disruptive and annoying.

Awesome stream. Nice quality. Dont know avilo for long but he commentated every game i watched him play by now. simply great. I like the music as well and 720+ is kickass. Needs to get featured. He deserves it
gotta love the guy, by far my favorite stream. every terran should watch this stream, so entertaining and you learn a lot (I'm mid-masters and I learn something new everyday).
The fact that he commentates everything he does is simply amazing. Every terran on TL is whining because there are almost no terran streamers who commentate their gameplay. Well, avilo commentates all the time, go watch him - he's the man!
And his chat is very mature and full of nice people (it's probably the nicest chat I know) everyone there is an avilo fan, so if you talk shit about him you better expect some flak, be nice and nobody is gonna have a problem with you (this is mainly directed at the guy who called the mods "nazis" on the last page , fuck knows why he isn't banned on TL for that.)
And yes avilo rages sometimes, but he's never a total dick and most of the stuff he says is true, I personally like avilo because he is an honest guy, that interacts with his viewers ALOT and speaks his mind. Mad props to him, if more terrans were as honest about the game as he is we probably wouldn't get nerfed every patch, blizzard listens to the community and right now the community are mainly zerg and protoss players, we terrans don't stand a chance in numbers, the few people who are honest about the game get hated by pretty much everyone on TL (avilo has so many haters it's pathetic).

I am a mod from Avilos stream, I have been watching Avilo for a long time now, and even though i still do not ladder as much as i should but because of his commentary and analysis of his ladder games when I go into my own ladder games I have a better understanding of what to do and when. He also helps the chat get better by Streaming his coaching lessons which is good for the community. although he just started making notes for his students. he should also have them save a few games from there ladder so he can go over them with them. thanks for listening -Miner <3

Hey Avilo, just want to compliment your play and all the good advices you give by talking while playing. I am protoss player myself (don't hate me, i know what you think of protoss :D), but sometimes tune in and watch your stream, and i just don't understand why people watch streams where players don't say a fucking word while you are also grandmaster, have a unique mech style but don't have as much viewers. People are just plain dumb. I hope people will realize eventually that there are soooo much streams to watch and learn, they can choose stream where the player is talking to them and teaching them instead of some stupid stream where the guy just plays... - who gives a shit if he is the best in the world if he doesn't interact to his viewers. GL Avilo, i wish you great success in the future.
I've gotten absolutely sick of Dragon, ForGG, and most of the regular Terran streamers that are half trolls and half cheesy as all hell. I recently was suggested to check out Avilo and have absolutely no regrets. He is a good player, a fun streamer, and applies some off the cuff early build orders in the matchups that are fun to watch and learn from.
avilo is a really entertaining Terran streamer! He mixes up his strategies in each matchup, interacts with his viewers, analyzes his replays on air, and gives stream-of-consciousness commentary on his games. I mean that literally. He says everything, related to the game or not.

I can understand banning somebody from chat for bashing a player but I got banned for saying that Naama wasn't "lucky" and knew what was going on. I'm just curious is literally anything that contradicts avilo gets banned in his chat, because I can't recall another stream that is that diehard with their bans.
Avilo's stream is so fricking good..its my favorite BY FAR. Ive watched a lot of streams and shows like Day9 but after watching avilo for a week I literally went from mid-low Plat to #2 plat playing diamonds half the time and looking to move up. He explains what he's doing, why, and strategies constantly. If hes too focused and not talking just watching how he does stuff is awesome.

There is a mod in Polt's stream that bans people who have a differing opinion to his own, i imagine it is fairly common.

Very good TvT player, some interesting tactics on show as well and surprisingly seems to be quite a good coach. Kind of let down by Avilo's lack to ever give his opponents any credit, constant imbalance rants and rather immature character. Chat from what I have seen is not very in touch with the game and the mods share Avilo's obvious immaturity.
Wow, went to bed, woke up 12 hours later (It's Saturday, haha) and he's still streaming with a new hat. Why anyone would want to stream for 24 hours straight is beyond me but I like his games. My fav. Terran to watch, and fav. stream behind Stephano I think.

Kind of let down by Avilo's lack to ever give his opponents any credit, constant imbalance rants and rather immature character. Chat from what I have seen is not very in touch with the game and the mods share Avilo's obvious immaturity.
Overall, worth checking out.

Lots of less experienced players come to avilo's stream because he's an excellent teacher and many have ranked up because of watching his stream, so you're right that not all the chatters are GM quality in their knowledge, but are certainly "in touch" with the game. wow hard to believe huh?

I don't recognize your name as frequenting avilo's chat, but I've seen you ingame messaging him whilst he's in the midst of a game and oft times wondered why someone would do that when the person is trying to focus on his game.
In defense of avilo's "chatters" and "mods" I think we have one of the absolute best stream chats and most lenient chat room there is. People not only enjoy talking about strats and builds, but have fun and laughs. Thanks to each and every one of you.

I must say that you and the mods have always been lenient with the links and even extended themselves to promote other's efforts. It's a shame that a select few, who know who they are so I shall withhold their names, have ruined it for others by spamming links during this event - but not only spamming, alienating viewers with a "hard sell" when they were asked to please stop by both viewers and mods.

I usually stream 1 p.m. EST to around 3-4 p.m. EST or so, and then i jump on at around 8 p.m. EST and stream till around 11:00 p.m. or so. Those are rough times right now! !

thanks yeh i do a lot of non-standard stuff, but usually i aim to hit a certain production set-up for whatever strategy im doing. So even if I open non standard if i wanna end up mech i'll end up with 3 fact 1 port 2 base or if i wanna end up bio+tank i'll end up 3 rax 1 fact 1 tech stuff like that depending on the match-up of course.

I stream everyday 1pm est (as long as i wake up o.o) and around 8 pm est. TvT is my best so i would copy what I do ! Or rather copy how I react because you can adapt your opening TvT build to your opponent to get an advantage.
As for TvP, there is no solution. Until a patch, you have to play 10x better than protoss if it goes to late game. And you have to just make the best read/educated guess if they are doing an all-in because a lot of times you won't know until it hits you.

Yep, TvP is no longer in the hands of progamers/GM/players to "solve." Only a patch will change how broken lategame is for P. You just have to play a lot better than protoss to win right now.
TvP is almost as bad for T right now as when the amulet for templar was still in the game, it's just protoss players were not as good back then, so only a few really realized how abusable it was b4 they nerfed it.
Terran needs help lategame in general.

thanks ! And yes, as long as TvP remains broken in my opinion, I will continue to rage. I really dislike it when a game feels like it's completely out of your control no matter what you do, because it reminds me of command and conquer. The game was terribly imba (way more than SC2) but lategame TvP reeks of just that helpless feeling where you feel like you're not just playing against your opponent but the imbalance of the match-up too Hopefully HOTS gives us mech as a viable lategame unit comp or they just help buff T lategame too. Maybe they'll put a medivac speed upgrade to make bio more viable in lategame for people that like bio too :D

I just have one question, why is avilo not featured on TL yet!? He has some really entertaining play as well as a high understanding of the game. He will go over replays and discuss not only his play but fan submitted replays. Everyone should work hard on getting his stream featured!

1. I treat players that I respect with respect. The ladder scrubs that all-in every game deserve zero respect. And I will call them out on it on my stream. Also, I practice many hours per day, usually 3-4 in the morning, and then 3-4 at night. 2. I look at all losses objectively, and sometimes will commentate/analyze why I lost after the game. I try to entertain on my stream and rage just for show sometimes. Most of the time it is in good fun, and i'm sure the large majority of "raging" takes place after lategame TvP games and we all know how those can sometimes go... 3. My image is fine. I'd like to think i'm a very unique/creative Terran player with a nice personality that tells it like it is. The only bad image I ever will or have had was from people that try to continually perpetuate a bad image of me. Players/stream viewers that take the time to watch my stream and join me on my journey as an SC player can make their own judgements 4. Not an issue. 5. You mainly need either a lot of viewers or tournament results or a mix of the two...so more people come watch me and obviously i will keep working to win some online cups and get to lans !
6 @kiarip, haha no i will not do that with bio/medivacs! But since you did bring it up ages ago, there were times that I purposely have manually selected only marine/marauder while microing and let the medivacs be so they continuously heal. I do that quite often now ! so ty for bringing that up !

I agree, man. No reason not to feature this guy. His play is incredibly exciting and innovative. And there are plenty of featured streamers who are known for complaining about balance (Idra anyone?). So there's absolutely no reason at all not to feature Avilo.
And GM players who interact with the viewers as much as Avilo does is difficult, to say the least.
+1 for featured stream. Or is it that he trashtalks toss/zerg too much to get featured? This is the only streamer I know of where you get a crapload of lategame action which is awesome (the vs Zerg ones are hillarious). Also lots and lots of explaining about what he is doing, what the thinks the opponent is doing and so on. Great stream!
On your last video where you played against a diamond Protoss and wondered how diamond Terrans ever won the matchup, it was like you were speaking right to my heart lol. I'm lucky that idiot Protoss players usually decide to four gate against my 1 rax expand and attack into 3 bunkers with SCV repair, otherwise my win rate would be 0% instead of 15%.
Avilo's stream schedule is extremely consistent, and as such I make sure to tune in everyday. He's a great player who delivers high level games while giving viewers insight into the game through his on the fly commentary. Feature this man already!

One thing is for sure. Avilo is something special. I am protoss and i really don't know why i tune from time to time. He is bitching constantly about toss but i still like to watch him play. His style is something you don't see very often. I think Avilo played more hour long games than all the pros combined. Sickest late game, really special style. Quite a character too. Deserves to be featured if your chriteria are fun on stream or level of play. He can talk while playing, interacts with his viewers, streams often... A protoss player would like to see protoss bitching Avilo featured - enough said. ^_^

Any internet site I have ever registered on would not let me use a name that was already taken. I've already blamed MKP for being a bad mannered troll and later learned that it was someone using his name.
It seems to me that Blizzard could care less about its users' reputations, etc. and just wants to rake in the money. It needs to wake up in a lot of respects.

to add on to that, there is also 4 digit codes as well.. so you can go way above 1000 identical names.
Sup guys, just letting everyone know since I'm finished teaching tennis in the mornings, I will be streaming everyday now for 8 hrs, and have updated my stream info with a schedule of when I will be streaming (check www.twitch.tv/avilo and the info section on the page for the schedule).
If you were wondering why my stream activity had dropped a lot over the summer, it was because I taught tennis everyday in the weekdays from 8 a.m. - 12 noon and then two days a week from 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. With that time now available I'll be back to streaming for you guys as well as improving my play massively again
I will keep the streaming schedule updated for when I will be streaming, and post notices on twitter/the stream info on whenever the schedule changes (because some days I will still be teaching tennis lessons or SC2 lessons).

One of my favorite streamers. He's very responsive towards his chat channel, and gives good comments regarding strategy. I will always keep an eye out for his channel when i'm on team liquid.

I need to make a comment about the Illusion/avilo thing from earlier...
Illusion was not terribly BM or in the wrong for wanting to play Z vs avilo. He actually thought he had a better chance to win ZvT and was just playing to win the tournament. This isn't bad sportsmanship or anything, this is playing to win. avilo might have seen it differently but at the end of the day Illusion is playing to win as anyone who goes to a LAN should be.
I've always allowed race picking in my tournaments. if you don't want a guy offracing vs you next time- don't lose to his offrace, it's pretty much as simple as that. To spin it as Illusion acting irresponsibly is just untrue. Irresponsible action is not listening to the caster if they ask you to hold up matches. Illusion and avilo started game 1 of the winners finals while Nanman was casting a losers bracket match. Nan had asked them to hold their game 2- but I didn't find out about that until after avilo had already asked me if they could continue with game 2. I said it was fine if both players were good with it. Then I read chat in the channel and saw Nan had asked them to wait and Illusion actually also wanted to wait...I understand it's frustrating and losing sucks- but seriously, if the caster asks you to hold matches HOLD matches unless there's a good reason not to. Nan drives in from a pretty far distance to come cover an event, I can't have people ignoring him unless it's for good reason. I had to babysit the rest of the matches for the rest of the night because of this and watch the channel chat closely...I have enough shit to worry about during a LAN as it is.
And even after I was babysitting the match avilo just forfeit the winners final match so none of the winners bracket finals got casted today....that shouldn't happen. -_-;
Apparently, you and I define BM differently. Strange the double standards that exist. I know for a fact that if avilo had started off the match up the way Illusion did, he would have been considered extremely BM. *just shakes my head. The finger was even pointed at him when he responded to Illusion in kind.

I, for one, see nothing wrong with Illusion changing races. You've done it plenty of times in the DC LANs v avilo and so have many others and avilo just laughs about it and wins.This incident was much different.
Do you know what Illusion said to avilo prior to the match up? Did avilo actually see a request to HOLD the match or are you just assuming that he did? Was there a response from avilo to Nanman saying that he refused to honor Nanman's request? And if Illusion wanted to "wait" why didn't he? It's pretty hard to play a 1v1 with only one player. I'm just curious, did avilo hold a gun to Illusion's head? Is it against rules to forfeit a match?
As far as Nanman is concerned, he does not have an easy task (nor do you, for that matter) The set up at Monster for a caster is less than desirable, but Nanman does a great job despite the distracting background noises and smoke-filled room. Everyone responsible for coordinating the DC LANs does a great job. It's nice to have a small tournament like this in the area and I'm sure it's appreciated by all.

Include with your replay, your viewer name, league, username in game. He casts around five each week and it's first come first serve

Nice thought Codon. Unfortunately, more viewers isn't gonna do it. Last year he was drawing between 500/1000. The reason then was "You haven't won any major tournaments." When he won Playhem, TL told him that wasn't "major.." (I guess he has to win a GSL) They've actually given him every excuse, except the truth me thinks and that's sad.
I've had someone watching the featured streamers the past couple of weeks and investigating their results. Many are drawing less than 200 and some haven't had results in over two years. Others have never had results. So TLs decision to not feature one of the most innovative and entertaining streamers around confuses the hell out of me.
But as in our chat, "My house...my rules" no matter how arbitrary they seem to others. The only difference in our chat is that we do not show favoritism.
I have been watching avilos stream for quite some while now ( maybe 2 years or something like that ), since i discovered his stream in the "Show non-featured" section by coincidence. I usually dont watch streams because after a few month in beginning WoL it just kept repeating itself and isnt really interesting. On top of that i just couldnt stand the superlative-speech of those casters anymore where one simple click is getting so exaggerated into silliness without any substance behind it.
Once i discovered avilos stream so it was very entertaining to watch at first because of a) his personality and b) his diverse and innovative play. Later on i noticed that sometimes he would give really in-depth (the real in-depth not the "caster-in-depth") analysis of the strategies and RTS mechanics behind it in a fun way.
If you are looking for a great time and are able to take his words with a pinch of salt then i really recommend you to tune in. Maybe you can take some of the ideas for your own play ?
Recently ( in fact yesterday ) I was troubled with a core problem with my TvP matchup, although I am quite succesful against Protoss opponents, i had a match on ladder which really made me think. And i figured something was fundamentally wrong with my play but i couldnt really make out what it was. Long story short - i was thinking about it and once i found out what my problem was the solution of that problem was something I have seen in avilos stream before. So i just wanna shout this out:

My story wouldnt be complete with some things the stream could improve upon. The one thing that is really annoying though is the constant swoosh of the microphone and i would really look forward to a fix. I dont know what the situation is - if it is a microphone which is too far away, so it has to boost the sound all the way up or if it is too close to the CPU fan.

Yup, that's what it means. Avilo is known for speaking his mind about balance. Personally I think being outspoken is a positive personality trait, but it does get him into trouble on teamliquid every now and then. I believe his temp ban ends on 1 July 2013.

I think that's because he regularly plays really long games. There are some strategies that only show up in really long games. For example, you really aren't ever going to see a full-fledged Tempest HT army in a game that's less than 50 minutes long. Now for most players, such long games are rare. For many players, a super long game is an annoyance that crops up when both they and their opponent mess up in some way and are unable to kill each other. So I can understand why opponents would get frustrated when they're facing an opponent who's an expert at FORCING the game to last a really long time. Most GM and high-master players on the NA ladder have probably had the experience of being locked in a 90+ minute game vs Avilo, so I can understand why they would groan when they see him as their opponent. "Oh no, not this guy again! Now I'm stuck here for at least 50 minutes unless I can kill him with an all-in!". And since Avilo's gotten much better at holding off all-ins recently, killing him with an all-in is becoming less and less viable.
Of course, this is absolutely not a valid reason to throw hate at someone. And anyone who does throw hate at a player just because they don't like their play-style is despicable. Hate the play-style, not the player (and in Avilo's case, don't hate the play-style because it's very interesting, and it reveals new facets about the game that might otherwise not be uncovered. Plus, we get to see huge armies demolishing each other in an epic confrontation. Who couldn't love large numbers of units going BOOM?).

I think everyone in this community likes seeing a stream cheater get what's coming to them. We've all seen our favorite streamers get harrassed by stream cheaters, and we all hate it. So Avilo didn't just win a personal victory, he won a victory for the entire community.

I think it's worthy enough we could potentially see every Terran always place their first depot in their mineral line in TvT. Then that way if mines ever are dropped in or near your mineral line and you don't happen to have detection you can use the depot from different angles to line up the widow mine in the splash or you can use either refinery :D
Avilo, in TvT so when going mech vs bio, how would you recommend dealing with the immobility of your army compared to the bio/hellbat composition of another opponent? I tend to go for a hellbat heavy comp and always get owned trying to go mech...

Lots of turret rings and sensor tower + good scouting so you know if they are trying to doom drop you.

Ever heard about venting out your frustration? If you watch other high level terran streamers they do it too. No surprises, there are a lot of players out there who are frustrated by the way TvP plays out, the lack of alternatives to MMM, stupid forcefields, a-move immortal archon armies and 1000000 range tempests backed up by mass high templar with storm. We want an alternative to MMM in all matchups. Avilo is an interesting player with a somewhat alternative playstyle. He also feels genuine for expressing his emotions and speaking his mind. If you feel the same, you should watch the stream too. But maybe you are not intelligent enough to understand this?
If you actually paid attention, avilo specified later exactly what he thought was "broken" (note that he didn't say "imbalanced") about the matchup, and it wasn't for the problem with detecting proxies.
More than likely Renfield doesn't even watch avilo's stream. You're right, avilo never said that the match-up was not balanced and you're right, again, that he's not the only high level terran, who is frustrated with the match-up.
If this is going to be another Lings of Liberty, SC will lose yet more gamers to LoL or Dota or w/e.

The regular viewers/fans know that they will not be given preferential treatment. They know that respect for each other is first and foremost. They know to conduct themselves in a mannerly fashion. (Although we do have our resident trolls. lol) They know that if they display any type of bad manners toward another viewer, they will be warned or timed out - even if that viewer is new or bad mannered. We try not to sink to their level and attempt to be courteous, before we ban em. haha
We, as mods, keep a tight grip in the chat, but we also have lots of fun. We are, in a sense, family - the avilonation - the brovilos. We respect our viewers and in turn, (and this has been proven) they respect us. When they come to avilo's chat they feel welcomed.

Avilo's stream has earned itself a forever open tab on my laptop - I can't miss a minute of his stream and I even stay longer just to talk in chat with some of the regulars and mods. Avilo's chat is basically complaining about how Terran is underpowered (even when they were pretty blatantly OP) and obsessing over which featured stream has less viewers than Avilo.
Also, I don't know why you keep trying to "sell" the stream this way. It's very cult-like.

Avilo's been trying really hard to be featured to no avail, can't you at least acknowledge his effort? What's wrong with someone bumping a stream thread which is meant to get viewers? If you don't have anything nice to say don't say it here

The regular viewers/fans know that they will not be given preferential treatment. They know that respect for each other is first and foremost. They know to conduct themselves in a mannerly fashion. Avilo's chat is basically complaining about how Terran is underpowered (even when they were pretty blatantly OP) and obsessing over which featured stream has less viewers than Avilo.
Also, I don't know why you keep trying to "sell" the stream this way. It's very cult-like.
You're obviously a troll. My chat is usually active and very fun for most people. People know i'm kidding whenever i say "omg eff protoss", and as for people obsessing over my stream having more viewers than many featured streams, that's not an obsession it's an objective assessment people and myself are wondering why i am not featured when other players have the same and less viewers, less entertaining streams / barely commentate, etc.
As for the chat being "cult-like" not really. Obviously most people already know my gf is one of the mods on the chat too and we try to make the chat one where people can actually talk and interact with me, the streamer, as well as other people in the chat which builds a community around my stream as well, and obviously gets more people into SC, and hell, some people even have found out about TL and signed up after watching my stream.

Lulz. I'm not spamming anywhere. Neither was my gf. She was just defending me, and replying to other posters too. I posted in the stream thread a month after i'd already requested to be featured again, and this was after august in which i was hitting huge numbers and still am, equal to or more than some featured streamers.
Everyone knows i deserve to be featured and should have been a while ago, i can only do my best to put all my efforts into this until they're recognized and i am featured.
As for WCS, that is like winning the lottery right now. Yes you have to be good, but the qualifiers come once every like 6 months, and on top of this it's not region locked so you have to play through many, many korean players that are already practicing more than foreigners and usually have a better environment. There's plenty of people good enough that haven't even made it through them because of this (i'm talking foreigners).
As for bumping this thread, it was bumped randomly by incontrol with spam. That is not my or anyone else's here's fault. I suppose it's good promotion from him to do that for me though

The only spam posts I've seen the past few pages are yours and InControl's. You should really take your own advice and get a hobby. I noticed you have developed an unhealthy obsession over avilo in his stream thread and the featured stream policy thread.

i'd also like to report back to you on the state of the new C&C game. and its not good. lots of input delay. Hopefully, Victory Games can turn it around. VG/JVC are saying all the right words. I hope they can back up those words with a quality product.
Checked out the stream wondering who this guy who always spams about getting featured was and well.. I've been stuck watching now for two weeks. I'm a zerg player and never watched other races so when a terran it's entertaining enough to keep me stuck that's something. And seeing toss die to drops everywhere always make me happy or the insanely long tvt where he slowly wins a game pushing out from 4 bases vs 7 with ravens.
I watched your stream after all the debacle regarding featured stream and found it quite entertaining. As a fellow terran player (but with much less skill), it's always fun to watch your stream especially with your raven control.
I'm gonna be the devil's advocate here on this thread, but constantly bringing up the featured stream status everywhere (regardless if it's your or your fans) isn't really gonna help your reputation. While I do agree your stream is definitely feature worthy, perhaps there are other ways for you to get on there.

Probably because you realize a lot of the things I say are done in jest :D some people take what i say way too seriously, i like to joke around a lot about SC when i play it.
The only things I genuinely think is broken is the MSC/early game PvT builds that have little risk and high reward off 1 base. Like proxy oracles and 4 gate blink + msc.

The restriction for this one is, please be bronze through diamond league, and please send me a game you lost that you want advice/tips on for improvement.

He said you needed to use Mech for more "Crisp" timing attacks around the 12 minute mark and get ghost earlier and in more numbers. He also said Mech is more easier to play then Bio vs Protoss.

I remember watching pro league and on certain maps, a mech 2 base timing is extremely powerful. It's a damn shame I don't remember who played that game though

I think what's helped build my audience is me streaming a hell of a lot, doing my best to play the best I can, being honest with viewers, interacting a lot, and doing my best to be funny and entertain too. Also playing a cutting edge and unique style that not a lot of people are able to play is a plus too i'd think!
Not to mention my skill is up there, i've beat a GSL Code S Zerg fxolucky with Mech in a tourney match (though it was a bo1), and other really known players as well. So most people know that i'm not just some "crazy d00d with hats" but I also do know how to play the game seriously too.
The only flaws you can say i have as a person imo from my seeing my stream are that I absolutely hate losing :D and that i am frustrated with TvP balance and the mothership core but I think a lot of people are -_- occasionally i'll get quite frustrated and rage or rant about balance after the 10th TvP in a row, but i usually just try to joke about it now instead of rage so much :D
I'm also am lucky to have an awesome GF (arkansassy) and pretty damn good moderators on my stream that make it so people can chat in my twitch chat without a lot of trolls. You can can actually talk in my chat and interact with other viewers which helps form a nice little community because then people get to know each other and talk about the games with each other too or about whatever.
I managed 2k viewers without feature status which was awesome, I expect i'll be able to get up to 3k with feature status, and most likely around 1-1.5k avg per day. Let's hope this month I am featured...and yes i do love SC and am continuing to pour my heart into this and work my ass off. Thanks for cheering for me if you are

This does not mean i approve of or "back" every word you say on every matter. You are correct often enough for me to keep watching. I learn from some basic stuff you say that is pretty non contraversial.
Regarding bans in the twitch chat; it should probably be mentioned that there seems to be some kind of glitch in the chat banning people at random. I've heard a lot of stories from people getting banned from lots of streams at random lately.

It's comedic, which is not to say anyone is wrong to fell it is insulting which is a large part of iNcontroL's style.
Part of the humor to me is the knowledge that Blizzard would do well to listen to avilo, which isn't the same as always doing what he suggests. We could have had avoided things like half a year of broodlord-infestor dominance, had viable mech from day one, and a real skillcap for Protoss and Zerg to match Terran's that would reduce low skill cheese and coin-flip play, plus allow their highest skilled players to stay on top similar to how Mvp, MKP, MMA, TaeJa, Polt, and INnoVation have been able to stand out.
I come to watch avilos stream almost every night and it stays as entertaining as the night before. Avilo is a great player and I wish the best for him in the future. Go AviloNation!!!

I can't believe he wasn't featured before, seems pretty relevant, been GM for centuries, I would class him as one of the more "interesting" personalities.
Coming back from the dead to congratulate avilo on being featured! It's been a guilty pleasure of mine to watch avilo's stream, as back in the day I was on the receiving end of his rage after winning games against him. The emotion you get to see him display when he plays makes it so entertaining, ranging from raging to dancing and in tears when he won that playhem that got him a plane ticket to a tournament.
Overall I think avilo is very good at the game in many ways, but seriously avilo, consider spending a little $ on a few hours of coaching as you constantly make a handful of glaring mistakes which if eliminated would immediately improve your game.

Don't recall the conversation in the second game but the first game was not because of you exactly but because you were literally the eleventh or twelfth Protoss in a row he was matched against on ladder.

It was nice having you watch for "One Hour," Scott, out of the 8 to 12 hrs that avilo streams per day 7 days a week. As to the guy in the last couple posts complaining about complaining (complainception), overall i'd say I rarely complain anymore, but everyone has those times they rage, and after playing 12 protoss players in a row on ladder, i had one of those times last night. Everyone rages occasionally, not a big deal. It's just haters of mine love to bring it up out of context or as if i do it all the time (which i don't).

Because some random guy I don't even know on NRG messaged me and told me to "crush that faggot." I guess he wasn't an Avilo fan either. I could tell he was whining through his words.
I suppose it's possible that someone from NRG messaged you, whilst "watching" avilo's stream. :D That, too, is very interesting. So much for barcodes, I guess.
There's lots of unnecessary hate in this community, but avilo doesn't have time to worry about his haters, because he's too busy loving those who love him. And, in the long run, that's far more important.
Avilo is my favorite streamer to watch by a landslide. He interacts with his viewers and he has awesome Mech play. I don't think he complains more than the average starcraft player does lol. We all get pissed off at times because we are competitive. All in all if you're looking for a new stream to check out I would stop by and watch Avilo blow up 40 mutas/corrupters with some Ravens :D
Just swinging by to say I love your stream, watched it a bit in WoL and it didn't really do it for me but then I gave it a shot now. Damn your streaming "ability" (in lack of a better word) has gotten good, by far the most insightful and interesting stream at the moment.

I gave this stream a chance as best as I could. I find avilo's play to be quite interesting, especially when he mechs, he is very good at it. Unfortunately he is often so childish and a bad loser (he hits pause on purpose before leaving the game he lost, seriously). He often makes excuses at the beginning of a game and acts like if he's getting sniped all the time. He overreacts to pretty common plays that others do as if they were mindblowing, just to rationalize his defeats. He will say that people are 'psychic' for playing a particular way against him. It's like he expects to surprise people with his drops and stuff all the time. He's often making it sound like people are cheating against him if he's getting beaten hard. Disappointing. He'll never improve much with this kind of attitude.
Don't post truthful remarks (as constructive criticisms) on his stream either, you will get timed out by him.

i've noticed this same trend. but, for me, it just makes the stream more entertaining. try not to take it too seriously. he brings forth enough insights into the game , that for me, its worth it to put up with the off-base emotional tantrums.
i do not bother to get involved in the twitch channel chat.

I usually analyze my losses, there's usually points in games where if i lost i made a dumb mistake or a mistake i feel i should not be making that i did make.
As for the stream cheaters/snipers, i've had a lot of them (again) lately. It is annoying when you know the other person is either sniping you and trying to blind counter your opening builds or has someone ghosting or is literally watching/listening to the stream.

i thought a bit more about this guys criticism... and my agreement with it.
i wouldn't beat yourself up too much over this. if i shoved a microphone in the face of any one 2 seconds after a tough loss where it was somewhat possible his opponent was cheating in a very intense game whether its baseball, hockey or starcraft.. i would not expect some Obama-like presidential speech.. i'd expect cursing, swearing and anger.
as long as you don't try to make up big off base generalities a week later about it.. you'll be fine. your stream is entertaining.. and like any normal human being sometimes you get angry after a tough loss. its no biggie.

I saw a delay option for your stream that you are not using. If you are so worried about people sniping and cheating to see when you are gonna drop and stuff, you could just use a slight delay. I can't think of a good reason why not to use a delay. Personally, I think that instances where people are not queueing up right after a game against you and you get them a couple minutes later, or a few times in a row is insufficient to claim for sure that they are sniping you. For example, yesterday someone didn't queue up immediately after, and you got him after someone failed to 6 pool you and your first thought was that he waited to snipe you. You aggressively challenged him about it. It's like he couldn't have gone to the bathroom or checked his mails or whatever else he could have done instead of being focused on sniping you. It's really a little too much. I think you own yourself mentally and can't play your A-game when you get suspicious about people sniping/stream cheating like that. It's energy spent on drama instead of the game.

"Hey I'm watching their stream and they're on skype and others are telling them what you're doing," or "Wow avilo they're trash talking you so bad on other stream," or, when ingame, opponents literally say (and I've seen it more times than I wish to count) "lol I just sniped you," or "hey dawg I'm watching your stream while we play."
These are just a few examples
Avilo has had his share of known hackers (as I'm sure others have had) and after a while it does make one a bit suspicious. Sorry, if you can't understand that, but hopefully someday you will.
As far as the delay is concerned, I don't see why avilo's viewers should be penalized because someone is cheating or sniping or hacking. He has it on a slight delay, but it really makes a big difference when avilo interacts with his viewers.

Reminds me of when Brood Lord & Infestors become dominant. Avilo called it out first and everyone called him a balance whiner. Six months later all the tournaments being dominated by Zergs and everyone saying: "Oh we knew all along it was OP"

I don't see the difference since it's still the same thing even if it's done 20 times or 1 time. I follow Avilo not because of his famous "Balance whines" but because hes one of the few Terrans who goes Mech on a consistant basis on his stream and pulls wins vs opponents who should in theory be winning against his style.
I stopped playing SC2 5 months after BL/Infestor started rolfstomping all Ladders and the only guy who called it out from the beginning was Avilo. Hell I only log on to SC2 to play arcade game with avilo because I got tired of playing Bio every game since WoL.

Meh. Even if I give him and you the benefit of the doubt, I guess I can't take a streamer seriously if he does things like pausing the game before leaving when he lost. This kind of irrational, childish behavior just rubs me the wrong way. There is no excuse for that kind of bming, it's just nerd rage which is force of habit for him. Foolish to expect anything good out of someone who is so obviously dissatisfied with his gaming experience. I guess I don't understand people who don't quit despite having more frustration with a game than fun with it.

And your example was Bomber dealing with hellbats, but that got nerfed out of existence REALLY quick, didn't it?
avilo doesn't complain non-stop about things like Protoss advantage in early TvP. He only brings it up when it happens. If he didn't have to deal with it 3 out of every 4 ladder games you wouldn't hear it as much.
I have to agree with Izerman. Avilo does talk about the same balance issues a little too much. It's not just about the opening against protoss, but it's also when a bio terran does a doom drop or something silly. I agree with what he says for the most part, but hearing it every time I turn on his stream does get tiring. I think the stream would be a lot more popular than it is currently if he lightened up on it a bit (but not completely!).
Overall that's the only criticism I have. Other than that, great stream! I watch very often.
A) He's not an A class progamer, B) He accuses half the ladder of maphacking and streamcheating, C) Every single game he loses is because of balance and not because of his own mistakes.
I don't think a player that has zero respect for the competition and doesn't respect the game he's playing enough to go 5 minutes without complaining is deserving of a spot as a featured streamer and as such obtains more viewers that other streamers are in my opinion more deserving of.
I've been a long time fan of Avilo's. I will agree on some points you made though toastie. Recently i have turned the stream off when i can see why he lost, whether it be bad positioning, upgrade deficit..whatever, but he will be claiming maphacking & balance issues blahblah. It does get tiring to hear constantly. I do think there are definitely issues with TvP mech however. But i do enjoy his stream and his antics for the most part and do think he deserves to have his stream featured. I just hope he can bite his tongue a bit and just be like "Well, i lost that game, that fkn sucked, anyway". Instead of being "MAPHACKER, BALANCE, ANYTHING BUT MY OWN FAULT". Also the whole pause, leave game thing is a bit lol.
Regardless of all this, Avilo is still my favorite streamer. He's a passionate lad .

Thus, there's no real argument there, IMO. He might be passionate, showing your passion by bashing everything around it is weird.
I don't think that such behaviour should be rewarded with being featured on a respectable site as teamliquid.net. There's better players everywhere and there's more than enough streams that are not being featured whilst the quality of play is higher and they are clearly more respectful to the game and the competitors. Avilo has nothing going for him but an unorthodox playstyle (no reason to be featured) and drawing viewers by screaming imbalance at 33% of the game (again, not worth being featured for).
Questionable or not - there are still plenty of people who obviously enjoy the stream, the bigger question here is why are you watching it if its so bad.

A newer browser might come across Featured Streams, thinking he's going to find something cool, click the first one (which sadly the A of Avilo's most often is) and come across somebody producing contant negativity without backing it up with anything valuable to the viewers but milicious pleasure for those frustrated with the game.

Hater going to hate as usual. If you don't like my stream, don't watch it. It's that simple. People watch my stream because i commentate, analyze my play, often times have fun, play games with viewers, do replay analysis, and occasionally real talk about balance that they don't get from anywhere else.
The more negative influence are people like you that hate on players you don't like while hypocritically supporting others that do / say the exact same things or similar things.

I suppose we have quite a different take on this part:

Commentate mostly includes, and I quote: "FUCKING IMMORTALS, SUCH A JOKE", "WHAHAHHA What am I supposed to do against this amove nonsense", "Hahaha two storms and all he does is attack move and warpprism", "Fucking warpgates what a joke". Other than that, it mostly involves degrading any kind of gamesense/slick moves from the opponent as streamcheating or hacking instantaniously. Analyze the play: Which mostly stops with opening the replay, going 8x through it and laughing at how 'easy' you lost your half-sieged tanks to immortals.
As a sidenote, your 'real talk about balance' is only gotten at your stream because you're the only one believing in that opinion on balance which goes quite strongly against the opinion of the players that are genuinly good.

That need to be in the center of attention will fade over time, hopefully sooner than later. Until then, why not stop throwing yourself under the bus, crying murder?
Be in any region's WCS system. This includes Premier and Challenger Leagues. Have an appearance in the Round of 16 of any premier tournaments as defined by Liquipedia. Have an extraordinary amount of viewers on your own merits. This doesn't happen often but occasionally people will grow their stream to have several hundred viewers at all times and this is worth consideration.
While you may not agree with the attitude, there is nothing wrong with the stream being featured (actually it happened quite late though there were plenty of viewers). So, I suggest to do the grown-up thing here: care less about what other people have and move on with your own life. No need to try and become a martyr for all that is good in the world on a stream page.
Demuslim is a much better streamer and more popular for a reason. Too bad he thinks he can do better in tournaments by streaming less...
Avilo has hilarious celebrations, innovative builds and is making turteling an artform. Some more respect for his opponent could be appreciated though. Demuslim is also more concerned about teaching his viewers stuff rather than showing off his superiority.
I've been timed out from Avilo's chat before. I lol'd, got over it and kept watching another day. I didn't take it personally, no love lost.. The reason I said "Fuck the haters" toastie was about the SoTG debacle and the whole Reddit garbage accusing him of using fake accounts and just trying to tear him down.
As I said I agree Avilo sometimes carries on but I love Terran Mech. Avilo has a unique way of doing it, I really enjoy just sitting there and watching him once he gets a roll on. I've taken things from his stream, applied them into my play and felt stoked when I pull something off that was totally influenced by Him.
So there is a huge positive right there. If you get no positives from his stream I don't understand why you would bother.

The discussion I wanted to open was about whetger him having an interesting style is more of a pro than the outbursts of negativity he produces. Yes and yes.
For those familiar with the history of the SC2 community, it's no surprise that players with a controversial image and attitude tend to be the most popular; Idra, Stephano, Naniwa, Destiny, etc. All of them have their fair share of haters and people who disapprove of things they say or do when they play or when they stream. All of them are/have been some of the most popular streamers, not despite, but because of their personality. Avilo is no different in that regard. Controversial personalities may recieve (sometimes rightfully) a lot of criticism for their behavior, but in the long run, personalities such as theirs help build the scene. Players like that are a big part of what new and casual fans of Starcraft tend to be attracted by. In that regard, I don't think Avilo's attitude is a problem as much as it is an asset.
Don't get me wrong; obviously some people (including myself, at times) can be bothered by a player being overly negative on a stream, and there's nothing wrong in itself with criticizing someone for what you percieve as excessive negativity (as long as your criticism is at least somewhat respectful and well-founded and not just bandwagon hate, which is something Avilo in particular has recieved in heaps in the past), but a personality such as Avilo's will, in the long run, be of benefit for the community rather than a detriment.
As for the "featured streamer"-status specifically:
Being featured is due to him being popular. It's not supposed to be a reward for good conduct or excellent sportsmanship, it's just there because a lot of people like watching him. And if a lot of people like watching him, having him on top of the streamers list makes perfect sense. If a new potential member of the community stumbles across this site and looks at the list, he will see the most popular streamer - i.e. the one most people in the community are interested in - on top. Having it any other way wouldn't make any sense. Hiding a popular streamer away from sight because you are afraid he doesn't accurately represent the community to a newcomer doesn't make any sense. If Avilo is one of the most poular streamers, that means that a large portion of the community likes watching him, which in turn means that he is an excellent representation of a large part of the community.

You may not like him (and that's fine), but a large part of the community does, and denying him featured status because you want newcomes to get a different first impression of the community would be to lie about what a large part of the community is. Which would make no sense. You may not like his attitude, but a large part of the community does, and pretending otherwise by hiding his stream would be dishonest.
I mean, obviously there's a line somewhere. If Avilo was an outspoken Nazi sympathiser who frequently murdered cats on stream, I wouldn't want him to be featured either. He's not, though. He's just a loud guy who is vocal about percieved imbalances and the percieved skill of his opponents, and as such, he's in cood company with plenty of other Starcraft-players who have proven in the past to be assets to the community rather than problems.
Not all Starcraft-streams have to be for everyone. For those who dislike negative attitude and dismissive comments about oppenents, there's plenty of other streams to watch. I don't approve of Avilo's attitude all the time either, and I can understand and agree with some of the criticism against him, but that doesn't mean that I think he shouldn't be a part of the community or that we should pretend that he's not.

I understand what you're saying. I don't necessarily think Avilo's viewers are representative for the SC2 community as a whole either, I was just trying to make the point that they are representative for a part of it, and judging by him being one of the more popular streamers right now, that part is pretty big.
Let's agree to disagree on the part Avilo's viewership plays as a part of the community, because I think it's a vocal minority kind of thing, there's less of them, but they draw more attention :-)

He's featured because he has a lot a viewers.
He has a lot of viewers because he has a unique playstyle and, despite the whining, what appears to be genuine enthusiasm and energy for the game. Not everyone's cup of tea, obviously, but it's apparent to anyone who's watched him for more than 2 minutes that his stream is definitely not 100 % whining.

I'm still playing competitively. I am going to start doing the weekend cups like zotac more consistently as well. As for the other tournies...what tourneys? The few big ones you have to qualify for, and of course i'll do my best to play and try to qualify still.
Streaming in the long run will be a more reliable source of income so i'm doing my best to have a fun and entertaining stream that also show cases high level play and innovative play that you won't see many other players doing or attempting. And of course commentary explaining thought processes or just funny commentary as much as i can :D

Nice try. My stream has a nice following, lots of loyal viewers, and i stream consistent hours during the afternoon and night and have a unique play style + beat lots of other very good players all the time.
As for rage or whining or whatever, everyone that streams has had those days or does it at some point. Most people that have watched my stream for a while, or even new viewers that tune in know i commentate virtually all my games, the entire time while playing, which can be a huge draw because i'm commentating and conveying my thoughts about the game as i play it in real time.
Soooo....as i've told other people and everyone will tell you - if you don't like the stream don't watch it. A lot of people obviously do enjoy my stream and most people that have seen it realize that i'm not a bad guy like a lot of the community tried to paint me out to be and i do contribute a lot to people learning the game as well through my commentary and analysis.
I hate raging, but when i do i try and keep it as funny and entertaining as possible
The best thing about Avilos stream is you get to see high level mech showing how unique of a style it is and the fact that it is completely viable to do. Players like him are more influential on the developing meta of the game than most of the patches we have had in hots so far. As a Terran player who has switched from bio to mech streams like avilo's are a great source of information.
+ im sure a lot of other terrans share his opinion on things, i know i do when it comes to toss .
Actually his stream is quiet good despite the QQ. He made very good but sometimes biased analysis of what is going on and why he does certain things. Since he is one of few with HTOmario to display a different playstyle from the usual boring MMM+X playstyle his stream is quiet enjoyable because he make things work you didn't believe it was possible.
Great playstyle, Great live analysis and advices to copy his style.
But as everyone says less QQ more PewPew would be the way to improve his stream quality.
People love trash talk so I'm not sure if he QQ less he would have more viewers.I think it would be the opposite.
The stream is always top 5 starcraft in twitch when no major event displayed. Just sayin'

I've seen more than one hacker lose a game to someone.
I'd guess that you don't watch avilo's stream to have made that statement. Whilst he does call out hackers/stream cheaters, (lots of times because viewers link proof) he is also very analytical about why he lost a game. Many times I've heard statements like "That loss was my fault, because I didn't (whatever he failed to do at the time)." or "Damn, that was a dumb mistake on my part. If I had done (whatever) I might have won that game."
I'm actually a pretty avid viewer, he does this all the time, just this time I recognized the guy he was accusing because I had played him on ladder a few days before.
I don't expect you to watch the rep or anything I know you don't play but trust me if he was a hacker it would be apparent in that replay I posted. The "proof" avilo gave in his rep analysis doesn't actually make any sense. Even on a barcode his account is known enough to assume mech.

I have been watching for a very long time my dear watson. I follow all the mech players regardless of their attitude or mindset. I'm also not one to exaggerate I don't even like posting unless I have something concrete to back it up. So when I say he does it all the time I'm being sincere. You can look up anyone of his stream vods at random and if you skip around enough or even just to the end of games loses there will mostly likely be a comment about how "weird" that guy played or how he "countered what I was producing" things along those lines. Again you don't have to take my word for its all readily there on his past broadcasts.
You saying theres always a possibility that he hacked makes it okay to say he hacked? That possibility is non existent. His record isn't even suspicious...if he was a hacker I think he could manage to do better than 101-67 with top masters level mechanics. You say we're entitled to our opinions, so what opinion is there to have on the subject? Blord hacks or he does not. If avilo is making the claim that blord hacks its up to him to provide evidence to back this claim, all he did was watch a replay and noted that the zerg had only scouted his front wall (he failed to mention constant changlings that scouted his unit comp even if he didn't see his production til' later in the game). Blord does not hack, he didn't even have any weird screen locks when going into the fog war.
You know the only reason people sling shit at avilo is because he slings it first. Does it make it right? No thats not what I'm saying. What I'm saying is don't be surprised when someone who BM's opponents on ladder simply for what race they play or if they won against him or queue up against him several times in a row (seriously man the pool of players gets smaller the higher you're ranked getting queued with someone over and over just happens sometimes) ... the list goes on, he BM's a lot of people for a lot of reasons, none of them valid.
Then theres the constant balance threads made on the blizzard forums, the ones that were if posted on TL would get him insta banned (assuming repeat offense after a warning). The threads in which he states the same thing over and over something something something mech, something something something protoss. He'll attack people that disagree with him and without fail will pull the rank card. It funny when mario gets involved tho because he is almost always higher ranked than avilo, so then he just resorts to "personal attacks". The same thing he says people do against him.. hes a shit talker that can't take shit.

I have been watching for a very long time my dear watson. I follow all the mech players regardless of their attitude or mindset. I'm also not one to exaggerate I don't even like posting unless I have something concrete to back it up. So when I say he does it all the time I'm being sincere. You can look up anyone of his stream vods at random and if you skip around enough or even just to the end of games loses there will mostly likely be a comment about how "weird" that guy played or how he "countered what I was producing" things along those lines. Again you don't have to take my word for its all readily there on his past broadcasts.
You saying theres always a possibility that he hacked makes it okay to say he hacked? That possibility is non existent. His record isn't even suspicious...if he was a hacker I think he could manage to do better than 101-67 with top masters level mechanics. You say we're entitled to our opinions, so what opinion is there to have on the subject? Blord hacks or he does not. If avilo is making the claim that blord hacks its up to him to provide evidence to back this claim, all he did was watch a replay and noted that the zerg had only scouted his front wall (he failed to mention constant changlings that scouted his unit comp even if he didn't see his production til' later in the game). Blord does not hack, he didn't even have any weird screen locks when going into the fog war.
You know the only reason people sling shit at avilo is because he slings it first. Does it make it right? No thats not what I'm saying. What I'm saying is don't be surprised when someone who BM's opponents on ladder simply for what race they play or if they won against him or queue up against him several times in a row (seriously man the pool of players gets smaller the higher you're ranked getting queued with someone over and over just happens sometimes) ... the list goes on, he BM's a lot of people for a lot of reasons, none of them valid.
Then theres the constant balance threads made on the blizzard forums, the ones that were if posted on TL would get him insta banned (assuming repeat offense after a warning). The threads in which he states the same thing over and over something something something mech, something something something protoss. He'll attack people that disagree with him and without fail will pull the rank card. It funny when mario gets involved tho because he is almost always higher ranked than avilo, so then he just resorts to "personal attacks". The same thing he says people do against him.. hes a shit talker that can't take shit.
Going back to when I said he does this stuff all the time, hes been doing these distasteful things for years apparently.
I could go on as to why people love to fling shit at avilo but that wall of text is already pretty big.
As long as avilo continues to rage and complain and make baseless accusations and come up with constant excuses for losses (never giving the opponent credit) and bm people in game and via other mediums hes going to have shit flung at him as should be expected.

Ah must be annoying when someone puts a mirror to up your face and shows you your true colors. There are those personal attacks I was referring too, everything I said was true and you can't argue against it so you attack me personally. My problem with you personally is that you're a unpleasant person, actually a lot of people have that problem with you. And you don't limit it to your stream you go on and infect the forums and other mediums with your trash. You don't want to get called out? Don't do shitty things worth getting called out for, simple as that.

Watching Avilo since quite some time whenever I have the time from good old Europe. I really like his (play)style and the insight Avilo provides while playing and streaming. Sure I don't agree all the time with him but Avilo has some good knowledge overall. One of the reasons why many fellow Terran players are watching him IMHO is that he is consistent, entertaining and shares his knowledge. Maybe you don't got it but Avilo has a passion for the game. And a clear enemy ... TvP. Avilo shares his ideas, rage and opinion on stream. Looking at other players like forGG - they play more aggressive and have a higher win rate - but even those players struggle against Toss and there is a feeling that loosing to P is (sometimes) unfair. I want Avilo to continue with the passion and fun he normally has and work (like all of us) on the current issues. Keep up and fight the force!

I never actually posted on GR I just read the forums so thats someone else you've mistaken me with (srsly I go by captainwaffles everywhere I don't have any other aliases) . And yeah thats just your opinion on the reddit thing... gee I wonder if its because despite not being a troll avilo has negative karma? Even novelty troll accounts will get positive karma, you have to say some really silly things to have negative karma and not be a blatant troll.

He talks up Demu you say? Maybe if he knows hes playing him but the last time they played Demu was on his barcode and avilo (surprise!) accused the barcode (demu) of stream cheating/hacking. He'll talk up other players when its good for him but for the most part he just shits on everyone else.

Thank you for the kind words. Many people enjoy avilo's stream and have learned a lot from his play style. He offers a lot to those who just started the game, especially with his Replay Analysis Sunday, where viewers submit their replays. (Hope to see you there some time).
Avilo gets a lot of viewers from Germany. I don't know how you found out about him, but an avid fan from Germany, and one whom I hold in high regard, promotes him a lot. (I won't mention his name because I don't have his permission).
It's people like you that keep avilo passionate about the game and make the many hours he plays and practices, writes guides, creates new strats/builds, and makes youtubes all worthwhile. It's actually easy to ignore the haters who spread vicious lies when we focus more on the people who really know what avilo is like and love him for his bizarre sense of humor, his rage, his love for the game, his totally entertaining craziness, (although not as crazy as Dragon) and his good heart.

When loosing too many TvP and the braincancer is close, i go and watch Avilo. Good to let some steam out because I totally agree with him about toss being bad designed. Also watching mech is very fun imo.
Avilo is prob the best Terran streamer out there atm. He interacts with his stream chat the whole time. All the stuff he "whines" about is the same shit every single other terran has to deal with. Think of him as the figure head of probably a majority of terran players in regards to opinions towards the tvp match up. His BM is highly over rated and anyone who watches his stream on a regualr basis will know that. Most of the (non tvp) games he looses he will either know why he lost or go check the replay and figure out why and talk about why he lost and how he could of played better. For a style like mech where so much of it relies on game knowledge and for us fellow mech players who are to shit to be taken seriously (like me, a diamond league scrub) he is actually the best source of advice and how to for mech + the amount of hours he puts into streaming is awesome.

Its alright man its like you said he's gonna be remembered as that mentally unstable (I added this part I know you didn't say that) whiny mech kid. With his mentality the way it is he'll never get on a legit team and even if he does for his viewer count he can't improve with his absurd mindset of everything that kills him is bad and if he loses it was probably a cheater.
He is his own worst enemy and he'll fizzle out eventually. We don't need him in the mech brotherhood if he is going to be a cancer when we have great people like you and mario etc (goody, strelok). I'll pick up the slack and stream my ladder more often, who knows might even write a guide.

lol i saw it, it's hilarious. I have a sense of humor i can see the humor in it even if it's a slight poke at me lol.
For map vetos...veto all the huge maps, they are terrible for mech, polar, yeonsu, habitation station anything small are ok for mech.
The only difficulties you'll have or anyone with mech over bio is it requires a ton more game knowledge on how to respond to what the opponent is doing because there are almost an infinite number of ways to play against mech and they all work and all have different responses.
Whereas if you just go marine/tank or bio/mine then Zerg usually has to go muta/ling/bane for the most part.

The highest level Tennis i played was Division 1 in college. I don't think you heard the story lol. I was talking about taking a racketball class my freshman year of college and getting destroyed every day by this guy that knew how to play until i finally took 1 game off him.

You know, this streaming hours fucks up EU viewers. It starts at like 5 am and extends to work/school hours in the morning. You may want to switch LoL and SC2 hours
Avilo, I love you, but your mods are overzealous and delete any post with the slightest criticism, regardless of how constructive we're trying to be. When you're midgame, you sometimes stop analyzing things and just start yelling and/or raising your voice. Post game, you calm down and can give good feedback. But when you get worked up about how strong zerg is, it makes your stream so hard to listen to that I have to pause what I'm doing and literally mute your stream until the game is over. I tried to say that but your mods keep deleting any negative chat comment, which is certainly not helping you be a better streamer.
Because as great as your meta analysis can be, when you get worked up midgame it can honestly be as bad as Idra rage (without the BM) and it's really distracting when I have to mute your stream for 10 minutes because you've started yelling (in a game that you win no less)
Why isnt Avilo progamer? He seems really good, also he is funniest and most educative terran stream and he is not afraid of speaking the truth about balance issues.

There is a reason Avilo's opinion on balance isn't the same as most pro's. The reason isn't that Avilo is way better than them or not afraid to voice his opinion. The reason is that Avilo is simply a worse player and not a Pro but a Streamer.
