Most male players can't compete at a super-high level. But if she gives entertaining matches against good players and can beat good players, isn't that the point?
If we just disqualify everyone not at a super high level, there'd be like sixteen guys invited to every tournament, no open bracket, no group play, just a Ro16 every time.
What? In your scenario, SlayerS DID eliminate the open bracket by essentially placing Eve directly into the tournament without actually qualifying. (a diamond player has no chance in an open bracket of GM's)

I'm responding to Destiny's recent debate with the Slayers team's translator about Eve's recruitment.
I just want to add that in Asian cultures there are still sexism, although it isn't very strict but more of a "guideline". In the Western world, we can see girls being nerdy and play video games, we can see them playing sports and be competitive, but it's not the same in Asian cultures. Asian parents are just not used to seeing their daughters playing video games 10 hours a day, and it's just a tradition.
I think Slayers_Jessica is trying to break that tradition, by letting the parents know, "hey here's a female gamer Eve and she's doing great and competing". I guess I'm trying to say she's trying to kickstart the female competitive scene. She's trying to let them know that maybe it's ok if their daughters want to spent a few hours gaming per day.
However I completely agree with Destiny on the sexism thing and how everyone should get an equal chance to be a professional SC2 player. But it's just a matter of cultural differences and how we see female gamers in both societies.

Your argument is correct, Steven. But I think they just don't get that bringing on a "bad" player on a pro team is a sexist statement in some way (they = SlayerS managers or other teams, that brought female squads/players on their roster). Or even offending to nerdy girls who would spend as much time as most of the really good male players do playing the game. The main reason for the organisations getting female teams is advertising I think. But letting a girl come naturally up as a grandmaster player and then pick her for a big team would be even better for their advertising, but there's not many girls who would spend that much time playing a computer game (like guys). It would be cool perhaps, if that wouldn't be the case, but why "force" it, bringing up "bad" female gamers to show "entertaining games" as they call it ...

There intentions are fine but their way of going about it is naive. Right now Eve is not representative of a girl who is succeeding on her own merit because she was recruited partly for her looks. If anything, they should have held a girl only tournament and taken the winner. That would have at least been somewhat based on merit.

It was Megumix, she streams as a featured player on TL pretty often. As has been stated, shes very good, can easily compete with the guys, is one of if not the best female in NA and, to top it off, is quite pretty. If anyone can say anything about the entire Jessica/Eve (from an outside perspective) situation it'd be her imo.

Does Megumi ever actually play? Every single time I tune into her stream all she's doing is either web browsing, or casting.

Catz's rapping on Destiny's stream is making me cry. Most ridiculously funny thing I've ever heard. "Looks like he's doing some multi-pronged harass, but you can't do shit cause you got no gas" LOL

catz's rapping is going to kill me. so hilarious right now

Uh, for some reason my jtv chat is being all weird (as is my brother's, on a different computer), and is saying that I have a global permaban. I type things, but it doesn't say anything after typing to me about not being able to talk (it only says it at the top of chat when i get on), and what I type doesn't actually show up to others. Anyone know a solution? I haven't done anything to even warrant a TO, let alone a permaban or a global :/

Lol, you don't know me apparently. I'm not the typical Destiny chat user that trolls. I don't troll at all, and even if I did, it would never warrant even a TO ;D Besides, usually you have to do some heavy duty spamming or malicious stuff for a signifcant duration to deserve a global ban (can't talk in any jtv chats at all ever). I'm thinking it's a bug, or something :O

anyone else have lag with watching in 1080p? It started recently for me, like every 7-8sec the stream just freezes, no video/audio, for about 1-2 sec. Which obviousy makes it very annoying to watch :/

umm that comment was to Deezer (if were talkin bout the same waste of time comment) who stalks him 24/7 and literally makes it almost impossible to play anyone else on NA. He once went to take a 45 min break after being stream sniped at least 4-5 probly more times and as soon as he got back Deezer was waiting. he takes stream sniping past the point of annoyance into actual stalking.

Slayers want to promote/expand esports towards the female audience, which they attempt to achieve by taking on a (apparently diamond league) player who, by necessity of the goal, is female. Destiny argues a guy wouldn't get the same chance, but that's completely irrelevant as the goal is not to promote towards male players (obviously). It simply had to be a girl. They could've picked any random girl but they didn't (for whatever reasons they may have had -- this is irrelevant). People may take offense to this, which is understandable, but it would be jealousy more than anything else.
Jessica's post mentions that the new female player should manage to put forth 'entertaining' matches, which Destiny slagged off to imply "they admit she's only okay-ish at the game", but I don't think that's what it meant at all; If you watch the GSL finals it's entertainment too, is it not?
