They just played their game, weren't contested at all and scored a goal. They kept playing their game but France didn't threat to do anything, so they slowed down while keeping control. Now, Italy vs England will be like BW TvT.

Also, France is as good as Spain at making 45172 passes in a row ; but not to go forward with them. Finally, Menez has the best stats ever : yellow card after 5 min, forget to mark his player on the first possible occasion and 4 balls touched in 30 min. GG Bonjwa

Its depressing looking at his effort or lack thereoff on following his runner. Just speechless. Its 19 mins in the game, if its later I can see someone losing focus but just the lack of desire is just wrong for this kind of game.

I prefer direct play where the objective is to score goals. Spain plays to keep possession first and score goals second. They know if they can hold on to the ball the opponent will make a mistake eventually and they can score (like Malouda failing to cover Xabi). Spain is certainly capable of beautiful football, but when they face a tough disciplined opponent the game becomes unwatchable because they always play it safe to keep possession rather then risk losing the ball to try and score a goal. Without a doubt Spain is an incredibly talented team, and have by considerable margin the strongest midfield in the world. They never get dispossessed even when under heavy pressure, are able to make quick accurate passes, are extremely good at pressuring opposing players when they have the ball and recovering the ball quickly and they work tirelessly all game long. This is laudable. Unfortunately it frequently leads to boring stalemates for long stretches of the game.

Laurent Blanc should be largely blamed for this performance however for putting out a ludicrous defensive line up completely void of creativity when he left far better on the bench. I don't think the players for France were terribly lazy, they were just outclassed in the end.
