Well, I think its still safe to say he was (one of) the least known player(s) of the top48, anyway.

Yeah I'm pretty sad. Didn't play well game 1 (lost scouting ovie both games) and allowed my money to get to 1k when he was moving out (worst time).
Game 2 he did a rush that I usually prepare for but was caught off guard.. still made it a semi interesting game imo.. game 2 is worth a watch.
Sorry to those that were cheering for me. SHaman vs Mondragon will be nice though, 2 excellent players. The better player won today and that is how it goes!
Flaf was a serial racepicker on the ladder. He played ZvP TvZ PvT always trying to be on the stronger side of the matchup so he might also try to do that vs Ret.
i dont think thats true, he plays pure zerg (at least on higher ranks)
Especially since picking Z is is only, still small, chance to take a bo5 against ret. I don't know how good his Z is but he will never win vs ret as T.
not much left from the unbelievably strong american line-up. The remaining ones, however, are definitely title contenders (at least Idra and probably Nony).
This is the minimap at the end of game 1 brown is FlaF teal is G5. Awesome!
. I am really happy for both FlaF and Shaman. They weren't given any credit so far. Now they get some small atention at least. If they leave the groupd will be a really upset for many.

<3 its ok, like you said in your interview, you were preparing a lot for a pvp.
It is unfortunate one of Casper vs Dreiven had to lose both those guys are top foreigners and deserved a spot in TSL based on the quality of games today.
I think I'll root for fOsc.Yan. I do like Canadian players and I think Germany has enough players in already. That and I enjoy games more if I'm rooting for someone.

well i guess you're right, just every comment / vid i've seen no-one gave FlaF even a 10% chance here, which makes him winning even more amazing ;p
because there is some anger romanian towards the usa player, "not everyone" tho but some.. And flaf mostly plays 2v2 and 1v1 in cws, thats maybe why i guess?

By the way get someone who knows Casper to tell him to fix his supply placement under the gas. He should move it one square to the left. I can see 3 scvs, which means his mining is slower.

His macro didn't lose him that game. It was the fact that he didn't kill off the two expansions in the top left when he had mass DTs and his corsairs were running wild. And then the fact that he took so long to get reavers (and he didn't have any at his most crucial expansions when the mass of ultra/ling came).
It's funny to see Yan getting owned whenever his proxies are scouted...ghosta was so scared in 3rd game when Yan went standard and was far behind and still raped him super hard
Also, Gamtja was very close to winning the third set after he defended Tarson's push. He had 160 to 110 supply advantage and one base more, his terrible macro (half of gateways with queued units, half of gateways with no units + like NO rallying) cost him the game.
Just watched first flaf vs G5. awesome game, really. but G5, why no reaaaaaaaaaavers :/. I know they are hard to control with a moving army. but.... against ultras a must, in my opinion.

No need to do that when you have xiaozi anyways.
Wooooh Ghosta, great fucking job. Jesus game 1 and 3 were some convincing wins, especially game 3 where yan for once tried to play completely standard... man that was sexy to see him destroy yan's whole army so fast without using siege.

Yea i really liked how you managed to stay in the game whereas his rush really hurt you. Really smart use of low eco lurkerling.
Anyway i haven't watched everything but:
- TT1 made a sexy one base goon reav push game1 <3
- XiaOzI game 1 is HORRIBLE. I almost thought he the replay was corrupted. 4K+ during almost the whole game. Abysmal performance even if he won the serie.
-Yan is a typical protoss player.
- The G5 games are quite good. Esnare vs Hallu was pimp.
- Infernal PvZ seems really strong.
Kinda sad for Dreiven ( havent watched his games yet ), InC and Kenzy :o

Look, it's only natural to praise someone when you are friends with a player, that you've played a ton with, a player whose strengths you've all seen lots and lots of times. They've seen tons of games of them, you might only have seen games from them for the first time now. Also, ret is not American, he still talked about how great players like nyoken are, surely that's not blind patriotism then, is it. Oh and, another player they hyped up a lot: Infernal. Why? Because they know him well and know that he's capable of much more than what he's showed in the past when it mattered. Can't just be Americans hyping players up just cause they're American.
nooo avi! nooo g5 wtf! and avi, you could've won g2 by owning that single canon so easily with your 9pool speed... :S Well, shit happens... grats to all the winners!

While what you say is mostly true, the SC "media" went farther than just saying that they are good players, which indeed they are, no one said otherwise. They said that, since they don't know Flaf and almost never heard of him he must be a worse player than G5 and will surely lose. I find it hard to imagine how any person can make such a statement, without knowing what each side is capable off. If that isn't blind patriotism I don't know what is.
Flaf an upset ? hell EVERY SINGLY qualified german player has won both rounds (everyone exept Kolll of course)! even HoRRoR!
and GhosTa did a great job defeating Yan, even though he lost the second game, which was completely unnecessary. i mean he scouted the cheese almost instantly - and then...? trying to defend 2gate zealots with 1 marine and 1 scv repairing the depot...?!? i dont get it.
and CloseR... winning the first zvz with guardians and devourers! epic 8)
infernal, in game 2 i wondered, if you didnt +1 on purpose or if you forgot/misclicked. I think this could have cost u the games. Grats for winning anyways
Just watched Flaf vs. G5 game 1. Flaf has amazing macro, he is definitely for real. He plays really well lategame, which says alot, though he did have a shaky start.
MikOeL vs XiaOzI was really impressive. Game 1 and Game 3 are were the best.
I really liked MikOeL's playstyle. Very aggressive in TvZ, lots of harass, and great decision making. Unfortunately he slipped up on the lurkers attacking his nat in game 3 which was a gamebreaker for him. I expect great things from him in the Future.

their games werent agressive, he plays a boring style where he leaves his base when he has many units
what ever, he makes good decisions and that gave him the victory vs arew and almost vs xiaozi

The 1-0 rush is 30 seconds later than the push without 1-0, however it is a lot more powerful, obviously. When I noticed Hayder took his third base so close to me knowing he had my usual timing in mind (+1 build - I use this one in practice 24/7) I decided to edge it out with those extra 30 seconds and it worked perfectly. In fact not making the 1-0 asap won me the game right there because Hayder's timing was just waaay off - he just started to make a sunken when my zealots arrived.
Thanks everyone for the support & nice words, I will try my best to keep playing like my usual self and not like the nervous pussy I sometimes transform into. However, I was a lot more at ease today when it comes to the nerves, I guess winning yesterday and the fact that I know Hayder really really well made me stay calmer as usual today.
Thoughts: - It pains me to pick between Tarson and Sziky, because I was rooting for both of them in the ladder. Awesome games is the only answer. - Wow, iG.Casper. I'd love to see him make 16. - Shaman too. These two are my favorite new surprises. - As much of a macro beast NrT.FlaF is, it'll be a huge disappointment if Ret doesn't qualify. - Pulling for iNfeRnaL too.
1) Even though Gamtja didnt make it to the R3 he deserves more credit than he gets. He is not that bad as people talk him. Everyone should watch YAN's first game vs Ghosta. Its just ridicolous what he plays. His strategy is so stupid and bad. I fail words to describe it but I never saw a 1v1 replay of this guy but its just beyond me how he could get A- or even A ( !? )
2) Ghosta is much better than I thought. Very solid player..
3) Infernal is so good. If he can keep this up and not choke.. His PvZ is so good.. Not saying haypro played as amazing as a zerg can but when watching infernals PvZ u get that '' u see it coming but can do jack shit about it '' feeling.. stunning
4) Shamans old school play reminded me of iloveoov time.. 2 rax pumping around 7 rines expanding and then timing attacks.. pretty neat
I wonder what would have happened if incontrol played ''normal'' / modern strategies. He tried to adapt which maybe was a mistake but dunno really..
5) This flaf guy is for real. His ZvP seems to be pretty damn good. Actually its kinda sad he has to face ret cause I dont know anything bout his ZvT whereas rets is pretty awesome.. ZvZ is just a cruel match up imo.. but I think his ZvP isnt lightyears away from rets tbh..
6) Mikoels TvP is pretty awesome.. I mean watch his games.. This guys a TvP beast

This kind of thinking is what made idra lose to koll at WCG, G5 lose to flaf, and we've seen plenty other upsets in this TSL, very rare indeed. I actually don't mind it, the more those people act like this the more surprises there will be, also we get to see more pearls of wisdom from idra before he DOESN'T gg out.

That someone is really REALLY good, has been for a while and is still unknown is simply pretty rare. It's just common sense to assume he wont be that good, that doesn't mean that you can't be wrong.

Remind me again, how did ret get to korea? Oh wait, I remember he got invited thanks to Artosis (and ret's skill of course). I'll let you guess Artosis' nationality, since you seem that good at sarcasm. I'll let you also guess in whose apartment ret is living nowadays also, I'm THAT kind.
Ret is not biased towards Americans at all, not the least bit...
I think you misinterpretted what he was responding to. You said "Well that's what you get for overhyping your players, I bet it tastes bitter now. But nice of inc and G5 to be so well mannered about everything, I would have expected at least some sarcasm, if not BM."
And you're saying that to an American. Just to remind you, you used "you're" so you're referring to a collective body. This body is "Americans" in general. He responded to your argument based off of what you said, so your response doesn't make much sense. Ret "over hyped" Americans despite not being a member of the collective group you're dismissing as "Americans."
Also, singling out two Americans (G5 and inc) and saying you expected a negative reaction from them makes it seem as if you're profiling people based on their nationality, which is not the right way to post around here.

In any event, I'm really glad to hear your thoughts on the second game, infernal. I was watching and thought "oh noes! he forgot his +1 and seems to be going for a zeal timing attack. this can't go well" That it was intentionally done makes it an even more amazing game.

Could but won't. His ZvZ is bad and he won't get past whichever P comes from the round before him. Mark my words.

On topic: the surprising results in R2 for me are Avi losing 0-2 and Drieven beiung knocked out. Either way looking forward to more great games & drama :-)
Quite a few strong germans. Too bad Avi didn't advance, I was rooting for him. Cool players like the BBQ toss, G5 and Incontrol are obvious let-downs as well, but good for the ones that advanced anyway!

Well it's hard not to think of you guys as bad mannered when I hear Artosis saying "If i don't know you, you don't exist" or something along those lines, not to mention IdrA's comments and remarks left and right. If the two people with the most coverage act like this, and you support them for the most part, it's logical to assume the vast majority acts like this, right?
I'd like to end it here, no point starting another x vs Americans debate, but as a reminder it was a user with an US tag that started the whole nationality thing, that's when I felt compelled to reply.
USA players are overrated / hyped, that makes too big expectations towards the players. Its really unfair for them T_T
I was surprised of the lack of cheese, considering theres money on the line. Also I cant belive Yan won that game2 where ghosta even scouted his proxys... omg.. Yan is really much better player then these results show.
He is probably counting the seeds + Idra, so it would be Idra and JF he is adding in to those particular numbers. Doesn't make sense for his R3 heading though.
watched a bunch of the games i love ghosta's play, textbook stuff shaman is an oldschool baller, i hope to see lots more of his games infernal is a beast xiaozi looked a little sloppy, but he made it through horror rolled kenzy, but the games were very meh flaf looked great after a rough start, too bad he has to play ret next and huge respect to inc for being so gm
Am I the only one that thought G5s army was quite small, despite being at max control? He was at or near 200/200 for much of the game, but I almost never saw more than 20 units in one place at a time.

you not gonna be laughing when idra wins the tournament son
First of all, I'm not laughing, I'm just happy As to the matter of Idra, I don't think he even belongs into this tournament because a) he's in a motherfucking Korean pro team and b) he should be excluded from every tournament for his unprofessional and disrespectful behavior towards other players.
I agree with a) but b) is pretty stupid. Let's just hope another german will pull a kolll. Maybe kolll himself
.
Why is b) so stupid in your opinion? In every other sports such behavior is punished up to the point where you're just kicked out. Even Starcraft itself works like that in Korea. If you suddenly start trashtalking during a game you're disqualified(but then again, you're also disqualified for accidental typing...) and if you get disqualified every other game, even if you had lost anyways, you get kicked out of your team at some point because it's just bad for its reputation.
But the lack of punishment for BM & extremely disrespectful/offensive behavior in the SC foreigner scene has already been discussed in abundance so let's keep this as short as possible.

very wise of flaf not killing the pandabearguy, we know what happens when you do that.... that probably saved him the series lol, how the fuck do you not kill a random critter with 4 lurkers and some lings a-moving into it? haha he managed to get it to half heatlh and then it ran away, good job flaf:D
wow im so glad that ghosta beat yan he is like the prototype of the cheesy low apm toss. how the hell did this guy get A-? i mean, in 2on2 ok, he is one of the best. but in 1on1? did he like proxy 2 gate all the time?
dreiven casper was awesome and props to incontrol for wishing shaman gl for the next round. i had a tear in my eye when i saw that <3

I'm so impressed with the Germans and the Romanians after watching the replays! I don't agree with all this over-hyped crap that I keep reading, but several of these guys definately brought their A-games!
I am really impressed with closer ... he didnt lose a game in either R1 or R2 ... 2-0'd Liquid`Drone and then Killer ... unfortunately i dont think i can root for him next round since White-Ra is one of my favorite players
And im glad XiaOzI pulled out his match after losing the first game... i feel like he'll beat kogeT
Unfortunate incontrol lost so we dont get to see incontrol vs. mondragon
