Better yet:
> Master space travel > Decide to visit a planet inhabited by vastly inferior species *optionally* > Launch completely futile attacks on said vastly inferior species
Obviously it was just a bad joke potentially inspired by the guy with the lizard men conspiracy thingy.
Was the account a unique IP or a novelty alt? Somehow I don't find the former very likely.

Everytime an astronomy-related story gets big enough to hit the mainstream news sources, I get re-frightened when thinking about all the areas a do not understand and get my view of them largely formed by said news sources.

User was temp banned for this post. Why is he temp banned? Is it wrong to state that you're not surprised that it happened in the USA? Do we see news like this often in Europe? No. He's simply stating what is fact. User was temp banned for this post. Because only "Only in Russia" is legal here. Don't you know? There are some patriot mods around here. The one releasing the video now, was clearly waiting for the right moment. After Chris Dorners drama around the LAPD. This doesn't really shine a good light on them now. User was temp banned for this post. First user gets banned for post. Second user quotes that post and gets banned for trying to argue about moderating in the thread. Third user sees second user gets temp-banned but somehow thinks if he does the same but also accuses (the british) Kwark of some good ol' american patriotism then he should be fine :p

Just for the record, I know that this is not a serious discussion of the topic and I know that you know that it is not true, but I can't stand seeing this written anywhere, because there are people who actually believe that the ozone layer has anything to do with the meteor being defeated.

Personally I'm of the belief that whenever you explain a joke, a burn, a sarcastic remark or indeed anything facetious, its amusement value suddenly plummets, no matter how good it was in the first place. I think a lot of people around here feel the same way, although it is possible to do it if the explanatory remark is funny on its own.
Although I should cut you some slack, Germans aren't particularly renowned for their humour.

But now I don't know if you were trying to make a satirical comment about the nature of stereotyping, or were just using a lazy stereotype... sometimes without a vocal tone it is not easy to differentiate.

Curses, you saw right through my nefarious plans! And I would have gotten away with it if weren't for these meddling Germans Brits in disguise!

If you had even an ounce of humour, you would know that hilarity can not be forced. It must be spontaenous to achieve maximum effect!

Neither of us specified that you should do it *now* or indeed any temporal indicator of any description. :p

Guys, you have an irc channel so you can goof around; I'm seeing less and less discussion of bans in this thread. Please recall the mod message at the top of the thread.

Well ok. Here's a relevant question: what does "Malicious user" from the list of pre-existent ban reasons exactly refer to? For instance I see Carhire123 was recently banned for that reason even though he looks to be one of the dime-a-dozen advertisers/spammers. Is it just an umbrella term or... ?

I'm not aware of any of the specific cases you are referring to, but I interpret malicious user as one who is knowing-fully hurting the community/website. Someone who gets out of control in debates unintentionally and gets temp banned isn't really a malicious user; someone who is advertising, knowing it is against the rules, or ban dodging is malicious.
