It all began with a thread on r/starcraft, three years and twenty-two weeks later This Week in Starcraft2 it’s one of the most valuable material our scene can have. Many people depend on it when they come back from a busy week’s work to catch up and some people are still discovering it today.
Over the years I have seen This Week in Starcraft2 evolve. I remember when he decided to take his thread to TLnet due to the sudden lost of interest in the thread on /r/starcraft after a few weeks. After a few stand alone thread of the recaps he switched to having one thread dedicated to his work with daily updates along with the weekly recap. Just like reddit there was a lot of interest in the thread and as time went on the replies slowed down. I remember him expressing how he didn’t get a lot of comments and he felt somewhat discouraged if his thread was being valued or not. Even with that he still kept on going. In early 2012 TLnet expressed interest in his thread and told him it was fine for him to make his weekly recaps separate from his mega thread and it didn’t get community news till early 2013.
After three years he is still dedicating his time and effort to his thread and the weekly posted weekly recaps. Every Friday evening I am met with the same message “It’s that time again!” indicating it’s time to put his recap into the layout and community news it for him (also it reminds me that it’s Friday.) He has never missed a week, ever, not to mention he has a full-time job as well.
In Oct of 2012 we honored juicyjames with a star, one of the most rarest things a TLnet user can achieve with a great amount of contribution to the community. Yakii, is the only user with two stars and juicyjames has reached the same amount of dedication to that. He has dedicated his time and effort being consistent for the past 178 weeks for This Week in Starcraft2. Instead of a 2nd star TLnet have decided to present juicyjames with a shiny golden star!
We cannot thank you enough for what you are doing for the community.
