TLPD: A Helper's Guide

If you applied to help with TLPD, you knew this was coming. If you didn't apply, then this might be a surprise to you. Because of the huge influx of applications and amount of work that remains to be done on TLPD, we realized that we should offer people a way to help with TLPD, even if they aren't staff. This guide is anyone who wants to help the massive project that is TLPD, but has no idea of how to. The good news is that while this is time consuming, it's also generally easy, all you need is a willingness to do research, and the ability to dig through obscure websites to find the information.

Adding Missing Tournaments

Sometimes you browse TLPD, looking for a specific tournament and find it isn't there. Most times this happens to people and they leave, and if I'm lucky, they leave a message in the TLPD feedback thread. If I'm not lucky, they never notify us and we never notice. No more! Now if you find a missing tournament, you can ensure it gets added. Here's how, in a few easy steps.

First thing first, make 100% sure it isn't in TLPD already and meets our notability guidelines. Search variations of the name. e.g. for GSL try, GOM Global Starleague, GSL, Code A, etc, to make sure it isn't already in there with a different name. Make sure you are also looking in the appropriate database (e.g. you won't find the current GSL in the WoL Korea TLPD, you'll find it in the HotS Global TLPD.

Our notability guidelines are simple, if in the Ro8 or further there aren't 4 or more players who already exist in TLPD, it isn't notable. This means that your cousins' bronze league tournament doesn't count, no matter how large the prize pool. This is after all a Progaming Database.

Open a sandbox page in Liquipedia. To do this, open Liquipedia and Log In.

Then click your username in the right corner.

This will bring you to your userpage, at the end of the URL add /TLPD.

This will bring you to "page does not exist" section. (Unless you already have something there, in which case you may want to make it /TLPD1 or /TLPD2) .

Click "edit this page" to create a new page.

Then, title the page whatever the tournament is (e.g. GSL 18293 Code A 2014). If it's a show match, or a team league please mark it as so. E.G IPTL (IPL Team League, 2012).

Compile the results of the tournament. Remember, check notability for each round, if in the Ro64 more than 50% of the players aren't in TLPD, start with the Ro32, unless more than 50% of the players aren't already in TLPD, in which case skip to the next round, etc.

Write the results as follows. This is because when we input data in TLPD this is the order we do it in.
Winner > Loser : Map

Make sure that the player names match how they are represented on TLPD and that the Map name is the same as the matching TLPD entry. There are multiple versions of maps, make sure to get it right. Terminus LE is not the same as Terminus RE, GSL Xel'naga differs from Blizzard's version, etc. Also remember, there are players with the same name, so make sure when you say HerO, you mean HerO not herO, nor by.hero. Order the games in the order played. For example, for a Bo3:

Boxer >Oov : Paranoid Android
Oov > Boxer : Neo Jade Empire
Boxer > Oov : Neo Peaks of Baeduk

For all the sets. Remember, order matters as it affects ELO. So you'd have something like this:

Defiler cup 1
Boxer > Oov : Paranoid Android
Oov > Boxer : Neo Jade Empire
Boxer > Oov : Neo Peaks of Baeduk
Jaedong > Bisu : Paranoid Android
Jaedong > Bisu : Neo Jade Empire
(etc)

Defiler cup 2
(Missing Map and Player info goes here)
Hydra > Yellow : Paranoid Android
Yellow > Hydra : Neo Jade Empire
Hydra > Yellow : Neo Peaks of Baeduk
Stork > Nada : Paranoid Android
Stork > Nada : Neo Jade Empire
(etc)

And include the games in the order played. If a player/map doesn't already exist on TLPD make note of it (preferably at the beginning of the cup in question, before the games) and include the relevant info to be added.

For maps, the relevant info is:
Map Name: What the map is called.
Name In Korean
An Image of the Map: If you can, place it in a square background if the map isn't square.
A link to the map: if you can find it.
Dimensions Height and width, you can check this by opening it in sc2.
Positions: Referred to by clock coordinates, with 12 being the top of the map, and 6 the bottom.

For Players the relevant info is:
ID: Player "tag", e.g. Jaedong, Bisu, Flash, MC
Nationality
Name
Race
Team
Birthdate
Picture (90x90 pixels, .png or .jpg)
AKAs Old names, e.g. Innovation was Bogus

Be as complete as possible, although if you can't fill everything in, that is ok too, just do as much as you can.

If you do not know the order in which games were resolved in a BoX, order it so that it's evenly split W, L, W for the winner, and put order unknown at the beginning of the series For example:

Order unknown (Bo3)
Hydra > Yellow : Paranoid Android
Yellow > Hydra : Neo Jade Empire
Hydra > Yellow : Neo Peaks of Baeduk

If you want to make sure you don't overlap with what someone is doing, check the Worklist. If you are working on something, add it here, and cross it off when you have submitted it.

If you want to be especially thorough and earn our undying gratitude, include links to the vods (either by section or by game), and links to the LR threads.

Once you are done with preparing the results, PM me the link, and I will ensure it gets added as soon as possible.

Fixing Errors, Adding Data

"But GMarshal!" I hear people complain, "I can't find any missing tournaments! Surely there is more I can do?" There is! Here are a few things:

Player Profiles

Many are old, or out of date, it would be ideal if I had a team of people to update them. I don't. Poke around the player's TLPD and see what is missing, has someone made a cool highlight video? Send it to me. Is their picture out of date? Upload one in 90x90 dimensions and send it to me. Its best if you do a batch at a time, rather than sending me single pictures, but I'll take whatever I'm sent.

Standardization

Do tournaments of the same category have wildly different names? Is GSL called GOM Starleague in one place GOM Global Starleague for Code S and then GSL for Code A? Correct this, gather up a list of corrections and send it my way.

Edit Liquipedia

Do it, Liquipedia is TLPD's go to for a lot of information, and there's a ton of work to be done there. Any edits made towards Liquipedia help TLPD get better as well. Focus on making sure tournament results are updated and player pages have all the relevant info we need. Head over to #liquipedia on IRC or the Liquipedia Feedback Thread for pointers.

!If you have any questions post them here or PM me!.

Pretty good map too, it's featured highly in that 2005 WCG documentary that Storyteller did. Scrap Station is nearly a direct copy of it, if you remember that map.

Hopefully TLPD can return to its former glory, and perhaps, in time, make aligulac redundant. BUT NOT THIS DAY!!!!

Seriously though, TLPD and LP are great resources <3

I just wanted to check by how much we are winning, so I went here:

http://www.teamliquid.net/tlpd/tlpd_select.php

And tried to click some links. They all bring me back to that page. So I guess we are winning by default.

See you at the finish line, TLPD.

Really happy that you adead Korean Amateur. Would be cool if you also made a neo Foreigner TLPD (Since the scene is entierly different than it once way (just like the korean), but I'm happy with the improvements of both HOTS TLPDs and the new Amateur Korean one.

I don't really see the needs for that. Players like Sziky, Kolll, Eriador etc. used to play and still plays. The ELO mix up is fine in the international database. The SOSPA database was created since the ELO of pro tournaments was so different to the ones in SOSPA tournaments. They feel much like different scenes to me than pre-sc2-international and post-sc2-international.

What's your argument for having a new international database?

Well a lot of B teamers basically became the new A teamers and it's kind of strange to go look at players peak ELO and Sziky is better ranked than Mondragon, Nony, Ret, Idra etc etc. I mean yes Sziky is a beast, but he was average at best in 2009.

http://www.teamliquid.net/tlpd/international/players#tblt-253-1-5-DESC

Ohh apparently Sziky is better than Stork...

If it's not to much trouble transfering all the post beta stats to a new TLPD would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately ELO doesn't quite work like that. Stork only played in tournaments like WCG and bnet. And honestly Sziky is so much stronger than the rest of the scene currently. Players always retire, like saying Jaedong was only decent in 2006, it's so weird he has higher ELO than sAviOr.
