It's not too bad, but the real killer is the traffic especially on the 401.
I don't think most guys realize how big the GTA region. He lives in North York, which is a twenty minute drive from the airport without traffic.
To dodge the traffic I would do it right at noon or host it at 3pm.
Rush hour starts pretty early in the afternoon and I wouldn't even bother trying to get anywhere fast until after 6:30pm.

This is what I was thinking. Though it's a friday, traffic is still likely to get brutal starting around 4pm on the 401.
If you're on the highway anytime before 3pm or after 8pm it's unlikely to take much longer than 20 minutes to get to from the venue to my house.
I'm thinking as of now that 3ish~ is probably a good time. Anyone flying in that morning has some time to settle in and drop their luggage at their room, people coming will be able to avoid rush hour, and by the time people leave to head back the traffic on the 401 will most likely have died down.
Does 3pm work for people?
edit; I'm arranging to pick a couple guys up from the Four Points Sheraton (I believe that's the hotel the NASL was selling discounted rooms at) before the BBQ, I have two more seats in my car so if anyone else flying in wants to hitch a ride over, post/PM me.

Hell,
On a friday sometimes traffic starts to pile up right at 3, but it's usually going in the other direction so we should be okay. As for work? People will either have to leave early or come when they can.

Yea Eastbound traffic doesn't usually start to get bad until a little before 4pm as most people at the end of the day are leaving the city rather than heading in.
My house is free all day and night and my neighbours are pretty cool with people making tons of noise (they're used to it by now) so people can come/leave whenever they want.

I'm just kicking myself for moving away for work. FML. Grats to OP for being awesome!

3pm sounds like a reasonable time for a Friday. Might not be so great for those who work full-time jobs, but its a good compromise.

I live just up the road from you at the Promenade Mall (Bathurst & Centre). If you end up having more people than you can handle with one vehicle I could tag along with my ride.

Very tempting. Will have to see whether or not the people giving me a ride to NASL want to go. I live on west end of Mississauga so it is quite the journey. But I do work east end of mississauga so it may not be too bad.

You could always take transit, if you are comfortable with that.

Yeah I may have to. Transit takes 1 hour 20 minutes and car takes 26 mins. Just need to convince co- worker to go.

thx Durp for setting this up, this is amazing just to show how big of a SC2 community we have in the GTA.
I'm willing to come and give a ride there(and back i guess) if you live in the Markham (I work in the area) as long as whoever comes brings food/drinks to help out OP. anyone interested in this offer please PM me so I can confirm by this weekend and I'll have to sneak out of work early
edit: i can also give rides home to anyone in west scarborough as i live there, again PM me if interested.

I'll definitely be there I get off work ~5pm in downtown!
Maybe make a facebook event page for ppl to sign up on? This will allow you to gauge interest better so you don't have a surprise of 100 people showing up to your place lol
|
A FB event will also allow you to communicate more effectively with people (i.e., status of BBQ if it starts raining, etc)
|
Whoa, Chill made an appearance in this thread! Also, it's too bad I live in Vancouver and am only flying in on Saturday morning You should post pictures!
Also, do you feel like posting your Twitter if you have one, Durp? (Mine's @Jacmert) I assume you're going to the Grand Finals as well
