Alright guys, let's do this. I am super stoked for the Code S finals. And not just because it could be Mvp's 4th, or Squirtle's step into the evolution of Blastoise, but mainly because I am currently in Korea.
I am currently in negotiations with my parents, they will allow me to go but ONLY if I give them all the information. (locations, time, place, people coming along) I know we have TL users who are gonna want to meet up for the finals so let's get this show on the road!
What we need:
- Location (of the finals) - (광나루역) Gwangnaru, Ax-Korea Hall
![[image loading]](http://img.gomtv.net/imgdata/34519.jpg)
- Location (where are we meeting?) - Gwangnaru Station Exit 2
- Time - 3:15 PM KST
- How many people will be attending - TBD
- Transportation - 광나루역, purple line 5
- Should we all meet after the finals for a late meal? According to P3psi: some brews and food at Yaletown is usually what happens. If thats too far, or what not, we can discuss this during the matches.
LET'S DO THIS GUYS!!!!
People confirmed to be going: SeeKeR Proseat and likely bringing a friend Stuk P3psi Scarecrow Atrioc iGX Euforia SamSimon TheKwas Tophatman100 and his brother zigly and his buddy ibexx mystpoke and 3 other ppl Danecdotes
People who are maybes: Khaldor FuRong dgsdm
People I need confirmation from: Chexx
Important Notice:
To make it easy to recognize each other I suggest we all wear:
- TeamLiquid attire OR
- SCII attire OR
- ESPORTS attire OR
- Arrive buck naked (it'll be easy to spot you)
What to bring:
- money
- cell phone
- identification
- a nice camera so we can take pics
(if you have one)
- YOUR ESPORTS SPIRIT!!!

I will be going to the finals. Will fly out to Seoul in 24 hours. It will be my first time in Asia/Korea/Seoul.
Here's what I found out so far:
![[image loading]](http://img.gomtv.net/imgdata/34519.jpg)
The finals will be held at Ax-Korea Hall (Ax-Korea, Kwangjang-Dong, Kwangjin-Gu, 319-33 Seoul) near Gwangnaru subway station (광나루역, purple line 5). It's incidentally the same location at which Mvp won his last championship (GSL August 2011). See GOM's announcement and directions to the venue here: http://www.gomtv.net/forum/view.gom?topicid=221268&cid=0&kind=8
![[image loading]](http://img.gomtv.net/imgdata/34520.jpg)
Tickets are free, but make sure to send an e-mail to support@gomtv.net (with your real name, GOMTV.net ID, and the number of seats) in advance to reserve 1 or 2 seats. I have already done so. To pick up those seats you'll have to be at the venue no later than 1600 KST. There will be a meeting point for international spectators at the entrance with a banner saying ".net".
I have no idea who else or how many will be going. As I have never been to Seoul before, I couldn't say what a good meeting place would be (i.e. grabbing food in advance). But I guess if all else fails one could still meet at the entrance under the ".net" banner. I assume they will have the international crowd seated together anyway.
I would love meeting for drinks and food after the finals, but I couldn't say where (maybe that one pub?).
|
I am in Korea right now, so I am in. I just have to wait for GomTV to answer my email asking for the reservation.
|
Seeker, how are those "negotiations" with your parents coming along?
How come you have to negotiate at all? You said you were in Korea already? Hm, I guess you're there with your parents to visit family, likely outside Seoul, and you're not of age yet, so have to convince your parents?
Now, where is P3psi?

But I'm on a tight leash with my parents right now. I'm kind of in a situation where if I mess up again, I'm screwed. So I need to tread lightly with my parents. Since they gave me qualifications, I'm going to meet them.

Well, I hope they will allow you to go to the finals. Would be a shame missing out if you're already in Korea.
I'm sure all the TL guys will be nice. I cross my fingers for you.

Hey guys. I havnt caught up with this seasons GSL at all so this snuck up on me.
We should set up for a 3:45 PM KST meet up time at Gwangju Station Exit 2.
The Finals usually go till around... 7 or 8PM depending on the amount of matches played.
Since its a Saturday night, I will be definitly doing something afterwards the matches, so some brews and food at Yaletown is usually what happens. If thats too far, or what not, we can discuss this during the matches.
What else we need is someone with a CAMERA!!!!!!!!!!! Lets show off the Seoul E-Sports love!
For communication, I say send me your numbers through PM's, and I'll arrange contacts and such. Send me your name and TL name, and how many you're bringing, oh and numbers.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask me through PM's or through this forum. The rest Im guessing were leaving up to Seeker?

I hope you all have a great day. Sounds like a lot of fun, wish I was in korea :/.

Does AX Korea have wifi? Otherwise I think you need to stay home to manage the LR thread
I'm down, I didn't realise I needed to email GOM though, I'll do that now.
Edit: I don't have any ESPORTS attire so I guess I'll be the naked white guy. Hopefully its not raining like it is right now.

Don't worry, I don't have ESport clothing neither, not even a Starcraft 2 or Diablo III T-shirt. I didn't take them with me when I came from France. That's a shame I know.

First of all, it's gonna go later than you guys think. The broadcast starts at 5:10, which means the first match will start about 6pm (introduction, map discussion, interviews, setting up etc), and with 10-15 minutes in between each game the earliest it could finish would be about 8:30, if it's a 4-0 with really quick games. Realistically I think we're looking at a 10pm finish here.
Anyway, I really wanna come, but I have something else on in the afternoon...if you guys save me a seat, do you think I would be able to get in if I arrived at like 6:15 or 6:30? I dunno if they close the gates after it starts or not.

they dont close the gates, and ill be down to save u a seat.

Squirtle said in his Ro4 interview that he's at his Wartortle stage and if he wins GSL, he will fully evolve.

I wonder if ppl also want to attend proleague afterwards as mentioned by iGX?
Also, are there more ppl who wish to go?

Landed in Seoul 5 hours ago, rented iPhone, found ATM, got T-Money Card, found bus to Gagnam, tried subway, found hotel, installed more current browser in English on PC in hotel room. Think I did well for the first day.
As for Proleague, I meant to ask as well. It will be the first night with mixed BW/SC2 I think. Not sure yet if I can make it, but I want to. It will be in the OGN studios, right?

I'm moving to Korea on Friday, so maybe I'll be able to make it (depending on formalities for my new job). I've never been to a live event before; now seems like a good occasion to discover.
Don't have any SC-related clothes, though -- I'll think of something.

Welcome! to the new comers in Seoul. Just wanted to let you know abouy transport in general so if youvplan ahead like me, youll know. Buses stop running around 1145, depending on the bus number, same goes for subways. Taxis are about 2400 base price and go up 100 every 10 metersish. The price raises to 2880 afer midnight to 4am and rises about 120 every 10 meteres.
To those whod like to do something after the Finals, its either Pub style, aka Yaletown and I can probably make reservations for about 3 to 4 tables, depending kn interest. To those who go like the night life such as my self, Saturday night is a popular night for university students and night owls. So plan your night accordingly so that you dont end up with a huge cab fee or layimg down 50$ on a motel room.

My friend and I are down to meet with everyone before hand at 3:45 but we probably can't partake in any festivities after the finals since our flight back to america leaves early Sunday morning. Also this is a bit off topic but will anyone be attending any of the Code A matches this week? My friend and I will be there tonight, I will be wearing a signed TL shirt. If anyone wants to have some drinks or something after we are always down!

just btw, the gomtv studio is smaller than I thought and I was kind of disappointed on my first visit to be honest. Its like you go visit the mona lisa in the louvre the first time and think "what the ****? why this painting is soooo famous?"
the only thing you can expect is awesome starcraft2 action though. and that might me the most important thing!

Well done! See you on Saturday!
I guess we've settled on 3:15 PM then?
Little anecdote by the way: On my second day after I left the GOM studio (the day MMA + MC played) alone as nobody else stayed to do stuff, I randomly got off at Sinchon station (grr, I always mix it up with Sincheon in Gangnam lol) and while walking around finally also found the Yaletown place. It didn't really look like a real pub, but the egg burger was nice.

Thank you all for a very nice evening. Special thanks to P3psi and SeeKeR for taking the unofficial lead, making sure the meetup ran smoothly. The matches were fantastic and TL.net is just awesome!
|
Hey guys, I just got home to my hotel after a wild taxi ride with scFoX (I believe) and a total female stranger who just hopped on for part of the way because so many people needed a cab when our line 2 subway train ended at Sindorim station prematurely. Of course the taxi driver did not speak a single word of English, yet we managed -- by stopping and the driver asking random young people in the streets who more or less spoke English -- to drop scFoX off at his university campus in Gwanak-gu and then go all the way to Yeoksam, haha.
Thanks to everyone who came out to the finals and later joined us for drinks and burgers at Yaletown. Was really fun! Thanks specifically to P3psi for keeping a headcount and making reservations. And if anyone wants to go see Proleague tomorrow or go to the GOM studio for Up and Down matches next week, let me know.

Hey, good to know you got home safely.
I'll have to learn some Korean for the next times, though -- If it weren't for those students, we would have spent a lot more time finding our way. Damn subway, not running after midnight! T_T

Hehe, yeah. I could actually guide the driver all the way to my hotel eventually, with some broken words and hand motions, haha. Saved me the walk from Yeoksam station.

Haha !
We had the same problem on line 1. We took a taxi too from Juan Station to hour home near INHA University. But fortunately, Fred and I have sufficient korean language skills to give some instructions to the driver. Good to now that everyone got home safely. And thank to P3psi and SeeKeR for their leading yesterday !
Proleague today ... I am too lazy ... But some GSL matches at GomTV studio, why not ! Not all because I am supposed to be in my university during the week (I feel bad to disappear at 4pm when I know that my Korean colleagues will still be there at 10PM ...), and some days I have late classes, but if I see some matches that I want to see, I will probably go. Perhaps shall we open a specific thread for that.

Yes, it was fantastic. Thanks for helping us foreigners out, snowbird.
P.S.: Stuk, just PM me if/when you wanna go. Also feeling lazy today, so I guess I will just watch Proleague on TV.

Hey guys, it was a lot of fun, thanks SeeKeR and P3psi for organizing it and keeping everyone together. It was good to get a burger, it has been too long.
We were also victims of the subways shutting down. Train stopped and let us out in some random city and we attempted to get a taxi. We had five different taxis stop for us, see we were foreigners and then speed off haha, finally got the sixth one to stop for us. Was really weird, I've never had a problem with taxis here before.
Was fun meeting all of you, hope to see you again at future events.

Pussies. I'm fine except I only slept like 3 hours.

Had a great time; lucky there's been a 12 hour proleague marathon to distract from the hangover...

If it's before Thursday (when I'll fly home) then I'm game.
So did those who stayed behind at the pub and did not try to catch a last train (P3psi, Chexx?) go drinking elsewhere? Maybe I should have stayed...

P3psi, hungover? after what? You stayed up late drinking after I (and many others) left?

Oh my god how could I have missed this thread?! :O I just arrived in the country to study Tae Kwon Do and teach English for a year. Watching that finals on stream was incredible, but I felt to intimidated to try and go live. Will there be something like this for the next gsl finals? Please let me know!

You went full retard man. Never go full retard.... he is obviously talking about the meet-up, not the stream.

If I remember well, next final will occur in the end of July, July 28th for the next grand final I think. And it is likely that we will do a similar meetup. It would be so cool. And because of the period, we might have even more people coming. It is also possible to watch the "normal" code S or code A matches at GomTV studio. Several of us are in Korea right now (including me), so if you don't want to go alone, you can contact one of us ^^

Yes I was referring to the meet up. It's good to hear that there's a small community of foreigner sc2 fans in SK. I'll shoot you a pm stuk

I'm flying home to Europe in a few hours, wish I could have stayed longer. I will definitely come back in the future. Had a great final night at the GOM studio, which was packed for a change, and the games just kept going.
Seeing how I had to guide Seeker to the GOM studio via phone today, for anyone who has also not been there yet and plans to go, check out this thread over at the GOM website and specifically study the following map:
![[image loading]](http://www.gomtv.net/img/StudioMap.jpg)
The nearest subway station is Sinjeong, not Mokdong. It takes about a 5 min walk from Exit 3. All the other stops are farther away (from Sinjeongneogori subway station for instance it takes a little over 10-15 min on foot). The big highschool area rectangle can be easily found on maps, even on Google Maps if you're using a GPS smart phone to guide you. The studio is on the first floor right above an outdoor basketball court that you will pass as you enter the building.

I really wanted to stay longer but apparently my ticket wasn't changeable and I would have had to buy an entirely new one-way ticket at a later date for at least 500-600 EUR plus extra hotel nights (different hotel too as mine was completely booked when I asked). Oh well, I will definitely come back soon, as I enjoyed my stay a lot and the GSL finals were fantastic. Was fun meeting you, and you still have Khaldor (and to some extend Wolf?) to speak German to, hehe. Plus V, obviously.
