Please, if you are not staff, don't answer questions in this thread, even if you think you know the answer.

Also, please take complains about bans, question about TL as a site, etc to the Website Feedback Forum.

How are threads chosen for the sidebar (under SC2 general, BW general, etc)? Is it posting frequency, last post time, number of times clicked, some combination? Generally speaking, which factors are relevant? (hopefully you can answer without exposing the technical wizardry behind the curtain)

Thanks, keep up the good work TL staff <3

it's just the most recent post

Except for The News sections and Blogs (and Replays technically), which has the five most recent OPs on the sidebar.

May I please see a mod's user interface screenshot that has banning users for different period of time functionality?

Just curious ^^.

How did you all come to be mods? I'd like answers from any and all staff
And also, I would like to see too, Dazer.

I made a lot of fairly decent posts in the strategy forum, got noticed, got asked to do a Protoss perspective on the GOMTV Starleague (a bw tournament a few years ago), got asked back to do all the writeups for the next season and progressed from writing staff to moderation staff.

I ran a succesful reign of Nazi terror as a moderator of the Teamliquid IRC channel for many a year. That coupled with an unblemished moderation history and a good post history made me progress from IRC moderator to site moderator.

That is a pretty cool process
Do you like being on the staff? (Its probably a fairly obvious answer, you would have left if you didn;t I guess). But you have to be careful with what you say in the threads now.

Nyovne is bubbling over with love. Do you still moderate the IRC channel though?

I don't feel I have to be at all careful. There's a partition there in my opinion. If I'm directly involved in a topic as a poster I refer it to another banling to moderate whereas when I post as a banling I make it clear that I'm doing so.

Untrue, you technically have one legitimate mod action ;D

(as do I, rofl...I asked for a D2 CDKey years ago XD)

Does TL.net have full time paid employees in charge of the forums specifically? (I'm assuming the pro team has them) If so, I'm really curious to find out how much work you're finding it is to manage your very large staff of volunteer mods and how that work scales with the size of the staff (i.e., would doubling the size of your mod crew double the amount of work required to manage them or have you found a clever hierarchical way of managing your staff where the effort required scales less aggressively?)
My modesty is awesome.

TL.net is really a volunteer driven initiative. From moderators to graphics artists to translators, none of us are paid.

I'll talk to you over Skype for your other questions.

Mods run rampant and unchecked, banning left and right on their tyrannical whims and often ignoring Europe.

We don't want to ignore Europe but the management make us.

I was getting trolled by idiots in the BW strategy forum and complained multiple times to Manifesto. Eventually he just told me to moderate it.

Who were the original mods and admins of the site (or the first ones?)
Also how does Nazgul not have a fanclub?

Original admins and mods were mostly composed of Liquid members, like Nazgul, drone, Meat, etc. There were a few non pro gaming admins like mensrea and WaxAngel.

I had a cool MBC Game shirt and I could open beer bottles with any item at BWWI Paris. A week later I was staff. Then it turned out I could also program mules to carry VODs from Korea to Youtube. Through a loophole I was made moderator because for no reason at all only mods were allowed to access code back then.

I didn't start moderating until much later though, during SC2 beta times.
