Hey guys, this is irninja, aka "Freelancer" in sc2 and the TL Guild "Legacy". I have a treat for you guys if you enjoy orchestral/epic music while gaming or streaming. If you have your own library/source you listen to for this sort of music, we'd love if you could give some recommendations.
The GW2/SC2 sub-community in TL essentially decided to get together and put a radio station up that would play orchestral tracks and OSTs that bring to life the feel of battle and victory. Dramatization aside, it contains tracks you would find in upbeat trailers and movie scenes, songs that excite you.
To give you some of the artists we've compiled, I have listed them below. We hand-picked the more upbeat songs from each artist that we knew of.
The following is the current tracklist as of 5/4/2011. Screenshot images because theres no easy way of exporting the playlist into a text-based file. + Show Spoiler +
Were always looking to add more good tracks, so even if your just a fan of this genre of music, we'd love to hear which orchestras and symphonies you've heard that really bring you into the "zone". Were trying to stick to "epic" sounding tracks, avoiding the cliches such as Drowning Pool/etc.
Feel free to listen in and give us some input on our selections. We want to have a solid playlist going so that when we hit the beta for GW2 and BF3, we have something we can really show off.
Have a good day and I hope you enjoy it.
Just a note: This radio is hosted by our TL GW2 Guild (TeamLegacy), NOT by teamliquid.net or its staff. So don't go pm'ing them for song requests!
On April 20 2011 07:56 epicdoom wrote: This is great, I've been trying to set up an "epic radio" station on pandora with no avil but this is pretty good
A couple of good songs to consider adding:
1. 300 violin orchestra by jorge quintero 2. Smooth Criminal chello version
Very nice picks!
They are now added in the rotation. You should hear them shortly.
Woot I love idea! Can't wait to listen to this for a while.
X-Ray Dog is a really good missing suggestion, they fall in line with Immediate Music and Two Steps from Hell. example:
Also, DragonstarDT on youtube makes some really great epic music mixes that are compilations of various artists, should definitely think about adding them to channel if possible.
You should also consider James Horner, I think he will make a good addition to the station, with some of his older soundtracks like from "The rock" or "Apollo 13".
Jesper Kyd composer of the music from the game "Hitman"
Also "Hold the ice" from Hans Zimmer.
"Infinite white" by steve jablonsky.
"Armageddon OST (the launch)" by Trevor Rabin
"Krrish score" by city of prague philharmonic orchestraHere is a link to the song on youtube, in case you can't find it anywhere else.
"Trinity" by James Dooley.
"Lux aeterna" by Clint Mansell aka. requiem for a dream soundtrack.
And ofcouse "Carmina Burana (Oh fortuna)" by Andrê Rieu.
Don't know if they all hit the right genre, but they've worth a try.
i fucking fail at embedding..but thats mana by equilibrium which i think would fit in nicely
been listening to the station all day while i ladder
@ some1s suggestion above, i would prefer the music not to be interrupted by sc2 interviews, unless at specific times set aside for talk and stuff. Random interviews or comments every few songs would be pretty annoying imo and detracted from the greatness that is TL radio
It really means a lot, we are sitting on ~40 tracks or so, and are in definate need of more.
@ some1s suggestion above, i would prefer the music not to be interrupted by sc2 interviews, unless at specific times set aside for talk and stuff. Random interviews or comments every few songs would be pretty annoying imo and detracted from the greatness that is TL radio
Since the suggestion was first brought up, I ran it by a few other people and received very mixed results. So I think I'm going to go with the "If it's not broken, don't fix it" philosophy here.
Pompeii was one of the first songs added. and yes, Posthumus makes some of the best tracks we have on there. Though I lean torwards Two Steps from Hell.
def. some good artists on there, but you missed a few
Try these:
Kenji Kawai (Ghost in a shell) Thomas Newman (shawshank redemption, the green mile) *Clint Mansell (the fountain, moon, smoking aces, requiem for a dream) Nobuo Uematsu (final fantasy games) Jack Wall (mass effect, splinter cell, etc)
*clint mansell - skip his requiem. its way to cliche to be on a decent sound track. it would say skip him, but his other stuff, work on the fountain and moon, is exceptionally amazing.
you know, totalbiscuit is particularly experienced with running radio shows, and in the preshows, he usually runs 1 hour of metal. he's very good at that. get him in here

Awesome project. May I suggest you just stick with "epic" music tho rather than branching out. I think putting in anything to break up the tracks would sort of defeat the purpose of having something to listen to that will raise your energy level.
i have a sc2-gaming pl at grooveshark myself, i am grateful for the new input from this thread, ty :D
some suggested songs from my pl:
-Anvil of Crom/Basil Poledouris/Conan the Barbarian -Riddle of Steel/Basil Poledouris/Conan the Barbarian -Klendathu Drop/Basil Poledouris/Starship Troopers -The Shaping of the World/world of warcraft -Paul meets Chani/Toto/Dune -Final Dream/Toto/Dune -New Dawn Fades/Moby/Heat
I like most of the choices. To add something, I guess a few tracks from the Gundam unicorn OST pops to mind. Or how about Neverwinter Nights soundtrack by Jeremy Soule ? Echoes of War ? why not?
I personally hope some Bal-Sagoth could make it on to your play list but I'm afraid people might not like it. They use a lot of epic elements: horns, violins and awesome narration + Show Spoiler +
Can't think of any other metal bands that would be okay: Keep of Kalessin is too fast and heavy. Don't know about Sabaton. All of their songs are about war allright. I haven't listened to the station too long so I'm not sure what kind of battle music you are aiming for.
There's also this youtube channel called xXImmortalImageXx or I think his new account is EpicTranceMusic he has a similar play list: Greatest Battle Music. There was a download link somewhere. It's pretty awesome. 155 songs
I also love some tracks some from Iuchi Maiko that pump me up but dunno if they are anywhere near the style of music you guys are looking for.

We have "Erza no theme", a paticular favorite of mine from the Gundam OST. I'll look into the others.

Also there was apparently this flight simulator game series for play station with the awesomest music ever: Ace Combat My personal favourite of the OST's is Ace Combat Zero. The files are extremely hard to find but IMO would be great if you got those.
Hope nobody posted this already. I personally love listening to some of the stuff of of Tron's Soundtrack that daft punk made. Really great techno/ trance.

Made my night with this lol. I doubt the music had anything to do with it, besides putting your mind in the right state
I don't particularly like the Nightwish vocals... the singing feels out of place (the opening to ghost love etc. is really nice, but then you get the singing then electric guitar, meh.)
I think some Inon Zur tracks (esp. the ones from Dragon Age: Origins) would do well

Also the question is who will be interviewed, people for SC, GW, BF3, Diabolo 3 or just gaming people in general.
Basically I know i won't mind having a big name WoW person come on and talk about gaming even if i don't like or play wow its something i'd listen to but some people might have opinions on who they would like to hear
I wouldn't mind who came on, as long as the interview/segment (ie. I can see stuff like Day9's story of the boy and his game being played) isn't too long, unless it's really good. Also, it'd definitely have to be gaming related.
That said, I'd be just as happy with what it is now
LoL this is pretty much the only genre i listen too....sooo i have some recommendations:
1) Battling Green Death (How to Train Your Dragon) -John Powell 2)Cascade -Hyper 3)Any song from "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World: the Game Soundtrack" -Anamanaguchi 4)Discombobulate (Sherlock Holmes) - Zimmer 5)Bowser's Lava Lair (Galaxy 2) - Koji Kondo 6)Any song from "Tron: Legacy" -Daft Punk
Sir I just want to thank you for this. I've been looking for something like this and it just fit's my common moods perfectly. Keep up the good work, seriously this is just amazing.
*ahem* What follows is a huge list of what I consider to be appropriate for this endeavor. Pick and choose what you like, since some of it may or may not suit everyone's tastes. Nevertheless, I had a TON of fun going through Youtube listening to awesome stuff.
First off, here's a pretty epic song from the Universe at War: Earth Assault soundtrack, as well as it's remix used for the credits of that game. + Show Spoiler +
Red Alert 3 had a pretty cool Soviet march as its main menu music. The Uprising expansion pack also had a different version of the same march, except with soprano vocals. + Show Spoiler +
Dmitri Shostakovich was pretty good at writing epic parts for classical orchestra. Here's the 2nd movement of his 10th symphony as well as the famous Finale to his 5th Symphony. Since different orchestras and conductors will have different tempos and interpretations of these symphonies, it might be a good idea to look for other videos/recordings of the songs to see which interpretation you like the most. + Show Spoiler +
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JC-pqRMasPQ
I always thought the Finale to Beethoven's 5th symphony was pretty epic, though I'm not sure if it would be completely appropriate. + Show Spoiler +
Someone in a previous page mentioned a song from the Star Trek: Wrath of Khan OST. Here are some of the more exciting songs from that soundtrack: + Show Spoiler +
Blizzard released a CD full of orchestral arrangements of the music from their games, notably from the Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo franchises. The following are arrangements of the Terran, Protoss, and Zerg music from BW. The other songs in the CD are also worth checking out. + Show Spoiler +
I always thought that Warcraft had some epic music, especially WC3 and WoW. + Show Spoiler +

I also think Baba Yetu from Civilization 4 is nice to listen to. It was the first video game song to win a Grammy, though I'm not sure if it's 100% "epic." It's a great song, though. + Show Spoiler +
Nooooo you guys are right it is down I downloaded most of the songs i like, so I can imagine i still have it
I highly recommend the wc3 and wow music, its amazing background music and its really nostalgic for those, like me, who played wc3 up until sc2 came out, and then stopped playing it altogether.

Woot, I love this station! Eviltomahawk , I totally forgot how awesome the C&C Generals songs were, especially the USA Battle Theme-1.Hopefully some of them get added, can't wait to hear all the new additions!
Also, as always, have to pester about wishing for a tracklist <3
On another note, I shared this with a bunch of friends who aren't even much gamers themselves, but they all love the station and listen to it while doing other tasks!

Heres some songs I feel you that could be pretty epic.
First some stuff from Homeworld
Turanic Raiders Battle Music:It's chill epic, it has this really kinda mellow build up thing to it that's really nice I feel.
Imperial Battle Music: Same as above it's a chill build up epic feel to it.
Swarmer Battle Music: Same as above's above lol Homeworld knew how to make music that felt epic but not overtly so.
The Mechwarrior 4 opening song: This one is a hard one to find I actually can't find the song alone on youtube so I had to just link the opening intro it's playing in. If you can't manage to find it and you want it I have it in my music archives. It's kinda hard to hear with the whole scene going on thou.
All I can think of right now, for some reason I can't get embeds to work so sorry in advance <3 Good station still loving it.

I want to thank you for the truly epic radio! Holy cow this makes my homework-doing so much better. Now I couldn't share my thanks without some sort of addition. I didn't see these on the playlist yet.
Some of my favorites off the Advent Children soundtrack. Keep up the awesome radio work!

i'm pretty sure the last two aren't on it but i know the one winged angel from advent children is on there (big Final Fantasy fan here >_<) the one for advent children is done by the black mages the one they have is just the live version of the song
I don;t think anbyone reading this thread/enjoying the radio can deny the prowess of the FF soundtracks out there. I especially love the advent children soundtrack.
I remember back when I played eve there was eve-radio which was a pretty awesome channel with registered DJ's and a pretty awesome schedule, that topped off with minor in game competitions was AWESOME!
Wonder if you guys could do something like that with this soon
Hey Ninja I was looking around since you had mentioned it's difficult to create textfile from the playlist information and found this suggestion:
In Winamp 5.0 load all your songs into the playlist, then order them by name. Then hit Control + Alt + G (or Misc->Misc->Generate HTML playlist from menu) and it'll create a temporary list in HTML format. Copy the songs from that and paste into a .TXT file.
This works for me on my computer based one, I don't know if you have everything on your computer or if it's only in an online source.
As for suggestions, here's a few (hopefully nothing you have, I'm going by screenshots >_>)

I have a suggestion. Can you edit the first page so that the list of songs in the playlist is in there so it is easier to look for instead of having to look through all the pages.
This is an awesome idea! It's got me thinking how awesome an actual starcraft radio would be! With well known community personalities dj'ing and having interviews and sc2 news and such. All the major podcasts could be migrated over to it and it would be something to tune into to listen to great music and starcraft discussion. /dream

I just tuned into the stream and I feel like I can offer some constructive feedback.
My main gripe is that with almost all of the online radios, but I feel it applies to this stream in particular. And that is the stream quality. I feel that with any other genre you normally get away with only 128kbps, but with classical or mainly orchestral music the lower bitrate really shows. I know this isn't something that can be improved overnight and without a considerable investment, I just thought I'd go ahead and say it in case you guys were looking for feedback in that area.
While the playlist seemed a bit lackluster at first (I guess the OP hasn't been updated with the new stuff), it really seems you guys are adding more stuff at an increasing rate. Kudos for that.
Other than that, I'm really enjoying the radio. Keep up the good work.

I resolved the issue. The tracks display properly with Winamp. I was using Gom media player and windows media player before and in both cases the track names weren't being displayed.
Not sure if its been asked, but im listening to a song currently and i KNOW it was the overlay for one of the sAviOr highlights(played through the entire thing)

Hey Mithquessir & irninja thanks for keeping it updated!
I listened to some more stuff recently, but I'm starting to lose track of what is already on the radio, is there any chance you can put up a list of all 180+ tracks Mithquessir? Anyway if you wanna talk on Skype/TS about suggestions/whatever sometime send me a pm.
armathai i'll probably send you a date next week when i'll be free. my college courses are starting back up this week so i have to get used to the times i have to be there, other then that i'll work on compiling a list of track names and have ninja edit his post at the beginning. i'll also have it listed on team legacy as well.
i'll see if i have it in my music collection. also guys if you right click the link of the radio and bookmark it you can save it for a later date without searching for the thread too =)
or if you want to use the thread to post feedback please bookmark it for easy access that way you don't have to search through all the posts =D
really could use more input on what songs you guys don't like playing and are played to much, also i could use more music to add to the radio, more or less right now i've hit a block on finding great sounding orchestral pieces thankyou.
On youtube there is a user by the name of Dragonstardt who does remixes containing snippets of music that you might find interesting for your channel. Just search for the full versions of the songs he lists.

Not sure if anyone reads this anymore but, the funds to run the radio have dried out and starting monday the radio will be down. I'm NOT here asking for funds to run the radio as i didn't start the radio on that foundation.
The radio became a side project of mine and the time and maintenance to keep it running and updated with music is very consuming. Running the radio while trying to go to school and working a full time job is just to much stress for me on a regular basis.
This also does not mean the radio will be gone forever if for some reason in the near future i get enough funds to start this project back up and have more free time (and possibly one more dedicated person) i'll look into reopening the radio.
I would just like to restate this is not a cry for help to gather money to keep the radio running as I have already decided and made it final that this station will be going down. If you are looking for any music that was uploaded to the station let me know and I can most likely tell you the name and were to possibly find it.
All in all it was a great run with the radio granted the amount of users i expected to see wasn't much it was still a great learning experience for me. Thank-you all for your dedication and help to making the radios music selection what it is till the very end.
I'm listening to it right now with all my friends while we study for midterms, and we all love.it. I'll be sad when its gone but i can find most of the music for it online anyway so its not a huge deal
Thanks for running this for as long as you did, it was amazing!
Damnit I loved this radio. What am I going to play in the background when I am casting? I am sure glad U did this fantastic project and deticated so much time into it. Surely will miss the sweet sound, Thanks again, hope to see/hear it in the TeamLegacy Radio II - Resurrection
Over the course of my time bouncing between jobs and going to school I have tried and done a lot of things in the past year since the radio has been brought down. I tried hosting several other things to from minecraft to playing random games with other people but nothing was more fun as hosting the radio i had on here. So after months of pondering and upon finding a great job that can pay my bills and gave me money left over for extra projects I like to do. I've come to a conclussion to relaunch Team Legacy Radio. The amount of support and dedicated users I had from Team Liquid really made it worth while to have the radio going, and as my prior decision to take it down because of lack of funds really sadened me.
But with this new Chapter in the Team Legacy Radio further known as TLR-Rebirth I hope to keep it up for years to come. so like before I'd love user feedback and some suggestions. Any and all suggestions are welcome (please keep in mind not all songs might not be added but I will read every post in here). I'd also like to take the time to address any admin reading this I'm sorry if my decission was wroung but I wasn't entirely sure if makeing a new thread for the same thing would be the right course of action if this is wroung please let me know and I'll delete this post and Make a new thread again sorry.
i'm sorry for any inconvenience with the radio it still is up there was just a problem with the host provider and the program that runs the radio everything should be fixed now happy listening
I'd like to submit more Zack Hemsey. Only 4 threads even mention him on TL. A birthday contribution to your ears. His album "The Way" comes instrumental(White) or not(Black) in his channel. I hope this guy just snuck up on you, then today you get a present too
sorry been busy lately, @enema i'll look into this but i've actually have a website up for the radio now www.teamlegacyradio.com and have been spending a lot of time getting a different one setup for the music that'll have a better streamline for it but this is a basic one so far.
I've added more music that's like nightwish trying to blend in a little more variety for words in the songs to give everyone a better mix of music. let me know what you think of them. The ones i've added so far is meredead, xandria and nemesea oh and of course nightwish. I'd love some feedback on this kind of music as i can add more if it's well liked or as easily remove them.
edit: also jack trammell does some instrumental music with a twist of synthesizers or dubstep what ever you choose to think it's like, it's pretty good and i just added another one of his albums
