I had the chance to do a 15 Minuts interview with Zatic who is a well known member of TeamLiquid and he gave me the chance to get a view behind Teamliquid and answerd me several questions like how does the structure of teamliquid works, how can you apply for a job, whats so special on teamliquid, what the future plans are and what is probably a problem for teamliquid.

Hope you enjoy it and we can get some feedback

Take your content is so unique, so entertaining and so professional just a big thumbs up for all the things you're doing.

Small historic note of something that was lost in translation is TL started off as a news and forum site from day one but that the team existed before that.

There are only so many opinions to have, among 200 000 people. Imagine discussions which hold 100 distinctly different opinions, it would be akin to arguing on #teamliquid during Boxer vs Jinro GSL finals -^

I remember when I signed up on TL, I was a little intimidated because I had heard nothing but horror stories about how strict the mdoeration was here. Honestly, though, it wasn't half as bad as they said... zatic is 100% correct - don't be an idiot, and you'll be fine. It seems to be a common misconception on the internet that how you behave on 4chan is the standard for the rest of the web... Maybe I'm just being really elitist, but I don't seem to have had any problems so far

Nazgul you should give yourself the tag of "big boss" or "head honcho" instead of administrator haha.

Also for other members of the site, you can actually find the hierarchy and list of staff members on this thread: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=80495, hidden in the oft overlooked "website feedback" subforum.

Dumb question, but is it 230 unique visitors a day, or is it 230,000 unique visitors on a good day? Lol they put it as 230.000 so I'm just wondering lol.

But damn, 230k people on a good day? Jeez.

It might have been 230 unique visitors a day ~8-10 years ago maybe :D

I've loved all of the videos I've watched, TaKe. Keep up the awesome work, and maybe I can learn some German so I don't have to rely on the subtitles all the time.
After all this time, I still haven't figured out the correlation between sexual orientation and beating an unprepared opponent. Are homosexuals the next koreans? Many players seem to think it's an unfair advantage. - pandaburn

I have to say although I admire most of the content and the discussions on here, I do find the closing/warning/banning policy to be way over the top. I sometimes cannot believe my eyes to see what kind of posts are punished with warnings or bans. Maybe it is one of those things you need to do on a website that relies heavily on community involvement, I find it too harsh though.

I sometimes cannot believe my eyes to see what kind of posts are unpunished without warnings or bans, especially in the SC2 forums. I still rage when I think about the "who invented APM" topic when after 4 pages of warnings/TBs there were people DEFENDING those who read first sentence of OP and wrote "I like/dislike razer grear". And yesterday some guy even created topic about it, lol. Just incredible.

You will get used to and appreciate it. As zatic said in the interview, there's correlation between "strict" moding and good/friendly atmosphere among the community.

I was about to say this as well. The admins and monitors have been very lenient ever since we got word of Starcraft 2. They changed their strict policy and temp-bans are the norm now. If you read half the filth I do I cannot believe how some people get off so easy. I've been banned quite a few times for pointing out halfwit trolls, but what can you do about it. Nothing. It's their house.

Found it funny how zatic is called a long time member. Three years isn't much compared to the 8 years TL exists. But probably one views everyone who has been an active member at the time one registered as an old time member.

It's nice to hear someone from TL acknowledge that 'bandwagoning' -- I prefer to call it jockriding -- is actually a problem on the site.

It shuts down or discourages a lot of legitimate discussion. To be honest, there's certain players or members I don't criticize, simply because:

a) I know they have the freedom to troll me, without reprecussion.
b) Other posters will become immediately defensive, misinterpret my comments, and accuse me of trolling or being an idiot for having the audacity of questioning 'a pro'.

Sometimes I see another poster raise a legitimate question or criticism about a player, and I think: "The guy has a point, but that's going nowhere very quickly ... ."

I think you're exactly right on how a person determines whether someone is a veteran.

If a member was at the site before you, you will consider that member a veteran, even if you and the other member are both new. And if someone came after you, even if both you and the member have been around for years, you'll consider that member a newb.

Great interview. TL community is really top notch not just in the SC field but in gaming and eSports in general.

About the ads issue: maybe TL could use the revenue to sponsor some tournaments. And when I say tournaments I mean some small scale weekly tournaments between the regular TL gamers. All interested would sign in then the TL admin would randomly choose 16 of them. The tournament could be streamed and anyone could volunteer to cast. The winners would win a small money prize.
Since the TL community is so spread out, in one week the tournament could be for NA accounts, the next for EU and so on.
Well it just an idea.^^

Keep up the excellent work TL!

Wow great interview and thanks for the translation. Also i'm really excited to here about this big announcement coming later this month. I'm really hoping it is TSL 3, i gotta say i loved TSL 2 probably one of the most exciting tournaments i have ever watched. I was kinda sad to see the beta come out right after it finished i think that stopped Nony from getting a lot of the credit he deserved for being one of the best players in the world, and that series vs Idra was just to much fun. Either way can not wait to find out. Hope to see more awesome interviews like this in the future.

Wow, so much bandwagoning going on in this thread...

Seriously though, great interview. It is really nice of Take to have made the interview, both in the sense that it is a massive plug, and also that it is interesting and uplifting. It isn't like it's a wholly infrequent sensation, but things like this make me proud to be a member.

At first I was thinking the same thing, but after a minute or two of thought, I think I'd like a longer delay. On one hand, there are so many great tournaments going on, so it makes sense to get TSL out there so it can be the OSL of SC2. On the other hand, I'd personally like the game to stabilize more before TSL gets going again. The whole scene seems inexplicably hectic to me. I guess that's pretty exciting, but I'd also like there to be seriously solid footing what with the norms of the new sport. I feel like people (maybe just me) don't have a good guess as to where things are going with the future of SC2. The more solid the norms the greater the likelihood that TSL will become the dynasty it should be. I'd much prefer regular TL-Attacks or maybe Liquibition for the near future.

I got rather off topic there... Props to Take and Zatic.

Keep up the excellent work TL!

... we already do this. TL Opens ^^

Really great interview. I liked how TaKeSeN was professional about it: the questions rose interest in me and the way they were structured kept the interview going. There were no awkward pauses or any hesitation at all. And also, zatic is a great guy, much respect.

Thanks guys!

Dumb question, but is it 230 unique visitors a day, or is it 230,000 unique visitors on a good day? Lol they put it as 230.000 so I'm just wondering lol.

But damn, 230k people on a good day? Jeez.

Much of Europe uses the comma as a decimal mark: Pi = 3,14159

Some countries like Germany use the period as a thousands separator: 100.000 = One hundred thousand

Always confuses Americans, i know.

But really good interview TaKe, hope to see more of these soon!

Aww no I am sure that's not how it went. I am terrible with Names/IDs and probably didn't catch yours.
Another likely explanation would be that I was terribly tired/hungover.

This is not how it works and it's unfortunate that you think so. As long as you are polite and you have a point you should feel free to post it. Look at this thread:

No name poster gives his rather unpopular opinion about well known figures. But he does so reasonably and mannerly. Huge crowd of donkeys feels the need to jump all over his post. The donkeys, not the OP, are the ones that got warned/banned.

That being said if you criticize a well known poster/player and don't have a point you brought all the flames on you yourself.

I don't think this thread is a good example of a bandwagon. My impression is that it's rather a group of high post-count users teaming up on easy pray. Which is probably even worse than a bandwagon since veteran users should know better.
We've had such teaming up threads for years. It's probably one of the points where TLs moderation is too forgiving.

In general it's hard to moderate posts which by themselves are not ban worthy, but together with many similar ones drown the good posts in a sea of mediocrity.

I agree with the bandwagon effect.

Alot of the time when a high profile poster makes a comment there are 50 replies whose purpose is to suck up to that poster. The most obvious ones are the red names and rekrul.

I can see why many would believe there is a bandwagon effect on TL and in many cases its true because hell, just about everyone doesn't read the entire thread. They don't know the conversation and instead intrude upon it like a black sheep.

Here's the catch:

1. Some people are better at communicating ideas, better speakers, etc. You get the idea.
2. Sometimes they just beat you to the punch, so there isn't much more to be said. This happens more often than not. Why regurgitate something that has already been said, especially if they fall under category one?

It's simple logic. I guess it also helps when most of the veterans are well over the age of twenty and have lots of experience.

That's my defense at least because I agree with many vets regardless of their color. Great minds are allowed to think alike, although it can get monotonous quick. I for one don't kiss ass. Not even my girlfriend's ass. She can defend herself.

I actually think zatic lowballed the staff count a bit. The subtitles were a little off at times, but not so much as to cause problems. Other than that, great interview.

Also, what took from zatic's comments about the bandwagon effect is this:
1) Always disagree with everyone in the community while talking with the community
2) Always agree with everyone in the community while talking with another community

IMO it should be the 11th commandment.

One thing I found strange is that the interviewer only called staff "teamliquid members". For me every user that identifies with teamliquid is a member

Agreed, at any one time I feel as though half the threads in the SC2 forum are completely devoid of any intellectual merit or any interesting discussion points. There have been so many threads which seem to have the only point of helping newbies overcome their fear of laddering and losing, or entire threads made to help one person choose their race. And don't get me wrong I love the GSL, but do we really need 1000 threads per day? There are other good SC2 tournaments in the world....

[/rant]

It just frustrates me because I feel there are good threads that posters have spent a lot of time on that go unnoticed amongst the torrid of mediocrity.
I like the way the walls go out. Gives you an open feeling. Firefly's a good design. People don't appreciate the substance of things. Objects in space. People miss out on what's solid.

Huh? One of his questions was exactly that: "You don't have to be a [em]Teamliquid member[/em] (meaning staff) to be a Teamliquid member".

If this came across differently it's probably due to the lack of a precise German word for "staff".

I wish there are more BW tournaments that are hosted by TL...
You mean ESPORTS isnt a synonym for SC2? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ -Proud owner of a Filco Majestouch 2 with Cherry Blue Switches- BW or SC2? Why not both?
