I just spent the last hour looking at the different clubs and groups here at Concordia University, it's my first semester and I honestly expected a video-gaming club or something [I mean... there's a freakin' dodgeball club in this university!]. My sister was the president or something for ECA a year or so back and they had a few video-gaming parties and I think one LAN night within the school that consisted of Brood War and Quake.
This was awhile back, so I'm a bit fuzzy on the details since I wasn't attending university at the time and honestly just tagged along.
Now that I am in university, I look around and I see nothing remotely close to video-gaming or specifically: Starcraft here at Concordia, is there any reason?
I was told that McGill was the place for Starcraft players/university students, I hope not however since they didn't accept me (Manchester in England did however...)
Anyways... uh... the point of this topic is: 1. to see if I'm not alone here in Montreal and 2. to hope that there is a group of students who host LAN Parties at Concordia or something.
Not sure. It's late, etc. etc.
Cheers, Torte de Lini

I've some french friends who are in Montreal but plays in Eu server

Hey I go to Concordia University. Sucks we don't have a club for gaming or anything, this university lacks a ton of stuff but that's a whole another story xD. You can add me on bnet, my username is Legendan and char code is 896.

We should have a McGill vs Concordia game some time ):<

Agreed, we'd decemate them.

the best player on mcgill csl last year is in concordia now. iirc TTOne was in concordia too.

I'm at UQAM, haven't seen anyone play yet

We have all these universities here and yet it feels like Montreal is so closed-out of all Starcraft related things.

I'm not sure if he's still at concordia...

I was surprised at the lack of gaming culture at concordia as well. I wear my Hwaseung Oz jacket on occasion but haven't gotten the starcraft reaction of "PLAGGGUUUUAAA" yet. We should organize some kind of meeting and meet up.

Definitely. I live right by the Bell Centre and shit, but my condo is too small for any sort of SC2 meet-up. There's a Battle.net24 at Maisonneuve though, really close to Concordia.
I even considered of joining the Concordia Chess Club just to see if there are any sc2 fanatics.
P.S: Political Science is dull ):

Yeah same, I wear my wemade Fox and no one has a fucking clue.
|
Go to the Chess Club next weekend. I'll be there, and we can talk about Starcraft (2). I haven't seen either of you guys with the jackets, though. Who knows. I must be blind.
Does anyone know if the Con*cept mini-convention is going to have any LAN events? They advertised LAN as being part of their sci-fi thingamabob between October 1st and 3rd, but I checked out their website and didn't see anything LAN-related on their schedule. -_-
If there's enough interest, I can try to organize a Starcraft (2) LAN, or at least some sort of get-together. All Montrealers would be invited - even the McGill kids who think that they're oh-so-superior to anyone who goes to Concordia. ;P If you think it'd be pretty cool, just bump this thread. I'll update with details.
|
Hey guys! New here to posting on the TL forums, but I saw this thread and it caught my attention. I live in Ottawa, about 2 hours away from Montreal, and there's a LAN here in November 6th/7th called Battle Royale that is hosting a SC2 tournament. I help with the organization of the event. Also you should look at ETS (Ecole du Technologie Superieure), it's in Montreal right by the Bell Centre as well. They host huge LANs and I'm sure people there are big fans of SC2 and gaming in general.
You also you should look into starting up a CSL team. I know Carleton University and uOttawa both have teams.

is battleroyale restriced to students only at those?

Ah that's crazy I go to ETS and i'm in the student residences, also extremely close to the bell center. We just made a CSL sc2 team, I know McGill has one too.

Battle Royale is open to anyone who wants to pay the entry fee. I help out with the gaming/tournament aspects at it, SC2 is probably going to be played a lot there. It's only $25 dollars for entry into both the venue and the tournaments (it's mostly a for-fun tournament style). Here's the link to the website if you want to check it out further.

you for real? I went to concordia last year wore my hwaseung all semester and got nary a blink. Actually that's not true, some guy thought it was a motorcycle or racing jacket

If we can get the 3 of us with our Hwaseung jacket, we could form a team O_O.

So we basically have this scattered groups of folks loving Starcraft 2, but nothing to garner us.

What are the odds that I should find this thread after having thought about it just this morning in my bio 202 psych class. Neways I'm brand new to Concordia, first semester. I'm also very new to RTS's. SC2 is my first RTS that I've actually invested quite a bit of time into. I still have a lot to learn...started as Zerg but trying to transition into random as I feel that'll help me keep the game fun as I learn the ropes.
Sort of digressed I think. Neways I'm still a total noob but I'm totally willing to play with/against anyone who wants. I'm willing to learn!! bnet name: Tullidd char code: 661 ( I'm pretty sure..I'll check later after having finished studying for midterms for the day). neways good to see we got some nerds at Concordia :p

The Link? Is that a Concordia News Site? I just found out about the radio station and I think there's The Concordian newspapers.

The Link is the more "alternative" school paper, I guess. The articles within it tend to be more opinionated, but also tend to delve into issues that The Concordian won't. Have you heard of CUTV yet? They're a pretty cool bunch as well.
I'll try to organize an event through the CSU tomorrow. Non-Concordian students would be allowed to attend anyways, even if it happens on the Concordia campus. Wish me luck.
|
Good luck with the CSU. They might ask for moneyz.
|
I know my peeps in the CSU. Hopefully I can pull some strings and get a place without too much hassle.
On a related note, you need the signatures of 50 CSU members to start a club at Concordia. Although that could easily be possible, the deadline for submitting budgets has passed and so there would be no way for us to get any kind of funding to rent a local or something. It is something to keep in mind for next year, though. Worst comes to worst I'll try to organize an event through Uberculture or something.
|
Man, that would be awesome to see a SC2 club at Concordia. I'd join with no hesitation, haha. Anyways, wondering if anyone of you guys are able to connect to b.net on SGW campus? and if so, how? Cause it won't let me connect to b.net.
|
|
Concordia has a campus?
I'm pretty sure the EWB wouldn't mind helping kick up a SC2 Community. They had a LAN recently including SC2 and console games. I, unfortunately, couldn't go.
|
I completely forgot about EWB. I'll have to go to their next meeting (if they have meetings) and see how they feel about Starcraft events.
|
Id be in Concordia right now if i didn't take such a relaxed time at college, bah il be there next semester.
Also find it weird that there isn't a gaming club at Concordia, hell even at Vanier we have one and we have like 5 times less students, tho it doesn't look too approachable as all i ever see them play is magic and smash(plus they don't even look that good). If there's something going down id be happy to tag along, also as for tournaments i think we just had WCG like 20 days ago no?
|
I'm totally ready to sign anything that needs to be signed that might help get things underway. I'm willing to do other things also just I won't have the proper amount of time for a little while to properly contribute. Or least that's how I feel. EWB? (ignore my total ignorance please )

Ahhh thanks, didn't know bout that. Very cool I'll have to keep an eye on this site. Appears to be quite interesting.

Right, so my laptop is practically broken down. Is anyone good with computers and goes to Concordia? I'm about to order my new PC and need help building it.
I can offer a meal in exchange [ever been to Reuben's? Great gourmet Deli].
Let me know, Torte de Lini

Hi Torte,
I went to concordia graduated from JMSB in 2008. hit me up with a pm and I'll gladly help you out with building a comp.
I love starcraft and it SUCKED that it wasn't more popular while I was in uni. If I can help promote that I will
I would love to organize a Concordia / Mcgill starcraft tourney. If anyone wants to help / participate PM me as I would love, LOVE to see this.

I have no idea if Concordia clubs consider or accept the possibility of cross-university interests. o_o

I think I might just start a whole new topic with the prospects of starting a SC2 club at Concordia.
|
Use newegg. It's the best.
|
Torte if you need any help starting up a SC2 club I would be glad to throw in what little time I have to getting this off the ground. I"m sure Concordia has a legion of SC2 devotes but they just don't have a voice to unify them. If we actually got a team formed, godam that would be kickass. Anyone and everyone who has a vested interest in Sc2 and attending Concordia (hell even just in the Montreal area) should chime in so we can make this thing happen. Lets not let this thread disapear into obscurity.
|
Here here Sebastien I think it would be a good thing for many of us. Allows for nerd bonding

I'll be joining Concorida this coming Winter, looking foward to meeting up some TLers. :D
Anyone who's up for some games, add me - Half.488 !

Hey guys,
I'm a vp for the SCS(Software engineering and computer science society). We usually host events throughout the semester. If there's a big enough of a demand from Concordia students, we can host a SC2 event(since we have the resources to do it). If the Concordia SC2 community can give me an idea of how many people would like to do it, I will suggest it the next time the members meet up. Also, if you would be interested in joining the SCS send me a pm and I'll tell you more about it.
|
What I'm planning to do is start throwing up some announcements on all the floors of concordia to generate some interest. I'll provide an e-mail address where people can simply sign up. After 2 weeks of this, I'll book a room an hold a meeting. From there I'll see how many people are actually serious about this.
Dependings on how many people actually join, I'm sure I could book a room on a more pernament basis where people can talk starcraft and maybe even play if possible.
If there's only like 6-7 of us, we can just have a small group and play, talk strats events etc.. but if we get around 20-30 ppl we can start making a tournament, or creating an actual Concordia Starcraft Team. From there, if the interest is good, I have a vast amount of contacts @ mcgill and I can form a team over there too.
After maybe a couple months of establishing these groups, we can hold a larger tournament Univeristy vs University and see who's the best. Once again, depending on that, maybe we can all pitch in and fly Day9 / HD / Husky to cast the finals (who knows!!!)
Give me until friday to wip up a poster, contact CSU and we'll get this ball rolling.
If you're interested, hit me up, I've already got several pm's.....
I'm looking for
Players Admins Casters

I'd be willing to fill up any slot that needs filling when I get the time aka midterms finish XD. Till then I'll be able to contribute only a little bit.
|
Update:
I e-mailed CSU VP Clubs & outreach on how to get a club going. Hopefully there's no issues as I'm an alumni.
I'll keep you posted.

O: I used to know a few of those guys back a few years ago I believe. They used to have fun video-game tournaments and events and such. Sometimes it'd be small, other times it'd be these huge fun times with awesome prizes [I got The Orange Box from them from an old SSBB tournament!]
