Don't post in this thread to say "gay gamers are like everyone else, why do they have a special thread?" It is something that has been posted numerous times, and this isn't the place for that discussion. For regular posters, don't quote the trolls.

It's interesting to see the difference in acceptance from various parts of Europe and from America. The passive-aggresive/religious straight Americans coming into this thread trying to make sense of it all cracks me up. We're gay, what the fuck can we do about it? :D. In my semi-smallish town it's actually pretty black and white: either people hate your guts or they do all they can to show you their support. Like I'm some kind of little baby bird with a broken wing who needs all help in the world. I know they mean well of course, so I'm just thankful for it. Too bad iNcontroL ain't coming to Dreamhack. Getting a big bear hug from him would have made my week!

Glad your friends were all so accepting, sure it must feel great! I argued about it on those pages and some people got pretty angry but yes, I hate that most people seem to think those kind of people are the only homosexuals. I'd rather not be compared to them. I know quite a few Swedish people and they seem especially accepting over there.. well, pretty much every Scandinavian guy I know acts gayer than most gay people and it's really fun to talk with them since they're so open about stuff despite being straight. It's cool when people are accepting and open to stuff rather than think everything they're not familiar with is disgusting :o

Most of my closest friends are straight gamer guys with a lazy personality, so them not giving a fuck wasn't much of a suprise ![]() I've always felt the same way about being compared. I think that's why it took so long for me to accept being gay and to come out (2~ years ago). Haha, tell that to a Finnish guy and watch his face turn wrinkled and red! But yeah, pretty hard to live in such a modern society and NOT be accepting. Most above average iq persons I know think it's hillbillyish to not be. It's 2011 after all.

It makes me disappointed that your gay friend would make such a scene like that, and that your friends would subsequently create that association in their heads. Somehow I feel that many homosexual guys, in their quest for validation and being "out-and-proud", go too far and perpetuate this stereotype. I personally think it's horrible. In the transgendered world you have something similar in drag queens. They too portray a stereotype by - although not necessarily being the majority, being the loudest. You know, knowing "i will survive" by heart and calling everything "fabulous" and wearing too much make up/ dressing scantily all the time. It's kind of like America - lot's of nice Americans, but there's a tendency to associate the American with "loud, fat, ignorant, arrogant". And the loudest ones usually are. It's it's not their fault, society tends to work that way. Sometimes, discrimination and a desire to be "go against the tide" (a tide also created by society) and become proud of oneself results in extreme, exaggerated actions and "loudness". I just hope one day people understand that an attraction to males is not the same as sexual promiscuity.

It's it's not their fault, society tends to work that way. Sometimes, discrimination and a desire to be "go against the tide" (a tide also created by society) and become proud of oneself results in extreme, exaggerated actions and "loudness". Well what if someone likes "I Will Survive"? What if someone likes being "fabulous"? What if someone likes to do drag? It doesn't all have to be a statement; it can just be who you are and what you like to do. I really, really dislike these attitudes of homosexual elitism. (Also, just a note: Drag queens are generally not transgendered, but consider themselves male when not on stage. Drag is a performance art that is intentionally campy and ridiculous.) In short, it's silly to prejudge someone just because they have a certain set of interests and personality traits. I'm not extremely flamboyant, but I do act fairly feminine at times, and I do like Lady Gaga and musical theatre and RuPaul's Drag Race, and I'll be damned if I'm going to stop liking them or stop acting the way I do because some random dude thinks that it makes me too stereotypical. (Also, perhaps most importantly, "I Will Survive" is a fucking great song, and there is no shame in knowing it by heart.)

(Also, perhaps most importantly, "I Will Survive" is a fucking great song, and there is no shame in knowing it by heart.) That's not at ALL what i am saying! All these things are fine! I like the song personally, and it's great that people do drag. I'm so sorry if i came off as prejudging - what i meant is that society tends to build stereotypes selectively based on loud behavior, and then people tend to perpetuate these stereotypes unknowingly - and they have every right to do so! Who is at fault here is not the individuals, but the society that tends to create stereotypes by lumping certain selective individuals together and using them as avatars to represent an entire group. My point was that it was unfortunate /that it happens at all/ - perhaps a point that is silly, whimsical and obvious to some - not "STOP EVERYONE. STOP WHATEVER YOU'RE DOING!", because by all means, in fact /please/, be yourselves! The same goes for the drag queen example - yes, i understand they are very different from the transgendered community, but then society tends to lump them together unfortunately, and so stereotypes are created, hence the analogy. I did not mean to offend you and i'm sorry if i did ![]() Also. I'm not a dude. Please be nice to me. Thank you.

She isn't the one with prejudice. She is merely pointing out the "flaws" that society has set for each aspect of a community. While I do agree that transgen and drag queens are two completely separate things, it's only because I know better. Of course most of society would lump the two together. Sex? Boys? Girls? Birls? Goys? WAHHH??! Don't get me wrong, me and Ru have a long running relationship.. and will for a long time to come. ![]() It's an odd cycle. ![]()
