FAQ: Q.I prefer to play on my laptop, can I bring it and play on it? A. Yes. There is space in the back of the lan center for 5-6 laptops. If you wish to bring/play on your laptop just indicate that in the thread or via email.
Q.Can I go and just watch/hang out and not play in the tournament? A. Yes, but it's highly encouraged to participate in the tournament. You're helping the local sc community grow and it's also great fun for everyone to play. PC's will be reserved for players first. So if you plan to just watch/spectate please indicate that in the thread or via email.
Q.Can I sign up for this tourney without a TL account? A. No. This event will be posted on the calendar of Cyber Ground's website but you still NEED to register an account on TL and post in this thread to be confirmed and have a spot reserved for you.
Edit: i got the first post + here is a poll to see what races everyone is who is playing in tourney

I'll have no idea if I can attend this because I'll be busy with classwork by then. I'd like to but it'd be a weekend commitment since I gotta drive 5 hours twice to do it. Hopefully I can make it, sounds fun.
OMG this sounds so good! And $20 for all LAN expenses + prize pool is such a great deal, not like paying some stupid $40 for the TAD one haha I only wish I would be here The LAN center looks pretty cool btw, still somewhat dark but not as dark / smoky / whatever like SeoulPC from what I can see!
Btw you're contacting Razer to try and get sponsorship? I might also be trying to find sponsors for my LAN back home too, so we could help each other out finding willing sponsors I'm thinking about trying a gamestop when I get back too
Actually I'm going to need to push the date 1 week further back now something else is going on @ the lan center on the 18th. I'll be out of town for like 2 weeks end of aug/early sept and I don't want to to do it without much notice or during weekends of other events in case people are traveling to those or qualify (mlg nc end of august, wcg usa sep 11th weekend).
So many events/things going on lmao.
Takes time to get everything together and give people fair notice.

dude one time it will work. ima get some kid from like Algeria and he will show up and it will be awesome!
edit: i invited 5 guys from my latest SC2 games to come. some said they might until i said 'there's a thread on TL' and they reply asking what TL is T_T
I'd love to come but I dunno if I'll be able to make it. It's so tentative at the moment that I'd rather not even be put in as tentative but I'll certainly let you know in advance of the event.
I really hope I can actually manage to attend this one ._.
put me down for tentative! i will give info if i am able to make it, im checking my schedule with my band schedule and other school events (which are "optional" (required))
gretorps birthday is the 26th. Can i be promised sc2, a dance party, drinking festivities, lovin', quickies, and homemade bread?(i'm looking @ you orb, shiver, LF, SZ) ^^!
Curse you LuckyFool, why can't you be like every other person and give a weeks notice!? I thought all the waiting was over now that the game is released and you go off and make a local event a month and half in the future!? Sigh, now I have to play for 8 hours a day to stay in tip top shape..... Actually, wait a second this doesn't sound like a bad thing at all! See you all there ^^

Only if i get to put it in you
No but seriously there's like nothing I'd like better than to hang out with you on your birthday man! <3
btw, I understand that for time constraints the bracket after round robin needs to be single elimination. BUT I strongly think that double elimination or bo3 maps is necessary leading to the rounds that give prizes.
so perhaps drop round robin for a more intense bracket overall, or see if there is time for something better than single elimination after the round robin
double elimination after a group stage would make for way too long of a tournament. What we'll do are bo5's in the semifinals and finals and 3rd place match. Which will already take long enough..
I trust, nay, expect to have all the total nubcakes like myself who get ousted first round to continue playing until the semi-finals/finals so I don't sit down for one game then sit around like a chump
also, working hard on the timing for my all-in reaper cheese, good players beware!
Alex, you should have gone anyways. You're other plans are in no way as amazing as hanging out with the awesome D.C. nerds.
And Alex, you should actually play this time. You're the only Korean who comes to these, so you have to carry Koreans everywhere to glory! This is beta we're talking about! This is the FUTURE!
The day swap messes me up a little bit. I'm currently scheduled to work on the 25th. Might be able to do a switch with someone. Move me to the tentative list for now. Sorry.

You have 1.5 months to get the day off!
One of the reasons I like to give over a months notice.
You guys could probably use a graphic designer for the flyer, I'd be willing to oblige.. you can check out some of my previous work at www.FOTOxDSGN.com

Seriously. This was plenty good notice for me to get the day off from work myself. I'm not saying I know what the work situation is for zapperkhan, just that the notice works out pretty well for me.
We have a complicated schedule at work where we have rotating shifts and everyone hates weekend since you're the only one there. It's really tough to get that change unless you start offering blow jobs.

I got some kneepads from when I did the hardwood floor in my house.
You can actually take the Metro (Fly into Reagan National Airport, i think the code is DCA) and it'll cost you like, around 3 bucks to get from the DCA airport metro stop to one of the stops where people usually pick each other up from (either franconia/springfield or vienna/fairfax). Where are you from? :o All in all I'm sure people wouldn't mind picking you up directly at the airport either though.
On August 15 2010 02:20 Kappuru wrote: You can take the metro from DCA/Reagan to Dunn-Loring, and if you needed a ride I could probably swing that for you.
I live right down the street from Cyber Ground and could probably pick anyone up from the Vienna Metro station if they needed a ride. You could also technically walk from the Vienna or Dun Loring Metro stations to Cyber Ground. It would be about 1.5 - 2 mile walk either way.
Add me as tentative to this please. I think I will be free but am unsure with work atm. As the date gets closer I'll be able to confirm one way or the other.
We need more people! Anyone reading TeamLiquid right now should come! This means you!!!
If you're from California, Seattle, Oregon, Alaska, Japan, Mongolia, who gives a damn where you're from. Get on the next plane out to Washington D.C. and come to this thing. It's a blast and always fun!!!
Hard to move around since there are ESL and MLG events on weekends around that, and I think Rob is busy a couple weekends before that too. Gretorp you should clone yourself so you can be at two places at once.
I'm gone on the weekend of the 4th and can't do it on the 11th or 18th due to lan center being booked.
also MLG DC is like the week after (or maybe 2 weeks after) plus the LAN center already has us booked for the 25th too. really can't change it at this point this is literally the only September Saturday that works. Fridays might be open but people have work or have already worked on getting the 25th off.
updated the OP. Everyone make sure to print and fill out the form which the lan center will use on lan day. if anyone has problems opening the form or cant use/print from google docs, email me and I'll email you the form as an attachment.
just fill out one. it's 2 on a page because they also print them up at the lan center. If you have 2 people or sign a buddy up you get free hours if you decide to come back to the lan center on your own time.
So what happens if we have more people than there will even be computers? I guess it'll be less of a LAN during the group stages and more just playing tournament games (which I'm completely cool with.)
Should probably write somewhere on that "Register and sign up on TeamLiquid.net"

I think the plan was it'll be semi BYOC, and we'll have something like 24 computers playing in the tournament at a time (12 sets of matches at a time, good stuff IMO) and then 8 more computers that people can play friendly matches with each other and warmups, and there can be a sign up sheet so that it'll be more orderly and people can rotate in and out that way.
As the tournament progresses, that'll free up more tournament computers so we can move the tournament computers as friendly computers. This way we won't have to do anything stupid like online prelims, and we won't have to say NO YOU CAN NOT COME TO THE LAN CENTER to anyone.
Nice poster Kapp. Being in an art degree, I had thought to offer my skills, but it seems like you have it covered!
If this gets super big after a few events and we need a website or.. I dont know, webcast overlays or some printed stuff, I'll be more than happy to hop right on that.

Also I'm sure a few people will bring there laptops.
Wait is he Joon or Zee? Or is that other guy Junz?
I'm so confused...I can bring my laptop instead of using a center PC. If people need to borrow it for games (and the place is cool with that) I can loan it out too. Not so much there to smash face with my awesome zerging.
yeah there is space for 5 laptops or more so if you want to bring a laptop or prefer playing on a laptop by all means go for it.
I don't want to turn anyone away. We'll just have to work out a schedule with groups, we'll have 40 or so pc's plus any laptops so we should be straight. I am going to close tournament registration 2 or 3 days in advance though to set up the groups/schedule since we will have over 40 people.
This is crazy. lol. This is going to be a huge tournament. We need a sponsor!!
edit: Oh shit I just had an idea. My coworker's husband used to work for Mythic Entertainment (He quit when the publishers took Warhammer Online and called it shit and made them remake it......into the shitbag it is now) and he's now working for a little indie-ish game developer. Maybe I will contact him and see if his guys are interested in playing/sponsoring. :O
Not sure if this was already planned but could someone keep track of making sure as many players (if not all, but that may be asking for too much considering the quantity of participants) save their replays? I think it would be awesome to at the very least have replays from the bracket portion of this tourny!! :D
Sorry Mike! I've gotten so many PM's for signups and stuff I must have overlooked u. If I overlooked anyone else just remind me here plz! :D
updated OP a bit made the lists a little clearer. also added a staff section to make it clear on some people and what they will be doing. Torenhire is rules official. Musume will be doing interviews. And I'll be coordinating everything. On LAN day at a very minimum you should identify/know these people if you have any problems or questions.
Also to clear a few things people have asked about. I originally was including character codes in the tournament list. I've changed back to TL usernames for ease of sending out reminder PM's via TL since this is the primary source of communication with tournament participants.
Everyones character codes will be included and displayed for all in the bracket creation on binarybeast so you'll be able to check the bracket to see your opponents username and code so you can easily identify who you will be playing against since some people have a different bnet id than their TL id.
I'll have a rules/competition packet up as a google docs sometime later this week. as usual if there are any questions post/email/pm away.
Also Map pool will need to be determined shortly. Unless there are major objections we will probably use 5-6 of the most popular ladder maps at the moment since I assume these are the maps most people will be most familiar with.
Edit: ALSO IMPORTANT: If I have you on the tournament confirmed list but you don't plan to participate in the tournament please contact me saying so. Please consider donating for the prize pool still though!!! I was lumping everyone on the confirmed list but I realized some people on there may not be planning to play in the tournament.
Also I'd offer to be some kind of photography staff but I've decided that in a LAN center there's only 2 real angles you can get and that's boring so I'll probably leave it at home.
well ive just signed up I hope to see the best out everyone in the tournament but hell I'll show up in my all american dodge challenger she can handle the 3 hour drive to there
Ok everyone here's the deal we have 34 computers and 6-9 laptop stations at the lan center and we have it all reserved (the whole place will be ours!)
I'm not turning anyone away or doing online qualifiers but since it's looking like we will have well over 34 people there will be a group stage schedule made for lan day. You'll be randomly placed into one of 8 groups (rofl) and 4 groups will be played for 2-3 hours then the second 4 groups will be played for 2-3 hours. You'll know well in advance which group you're in and what time you will be playing so you can plan accordingly when to show up. (of course if ur nerdy as me you'll show up to watch the other group play too)
After the groups are done the final bracket will be played immediately.
I'll keep everyone posted and have a rules document up when I get the chance. Also the LAN center will be opening an hour early for us at 11am so that'll be around a time I want to get started since this lan is going to be so huge.

looks like someone telepathically homed in on the joke about me thinking it should start at 9am...
that's if we go to Il Mee on lan day. No reason why we cant do a little research and maybe go somewhere closer that's within a minute or two (or walking distance) of the lan center.
haven't thought about dinner whatsoever yet there's been so much else to do for this so far.
Il Mee is cool and all, but besides the fact that I'm broke and can't afford the weekly dinners, it is kind of cramped and half the time there's no water to be found, when I'm there anyway. Also, while I always tip anyway, I don't quite understand the concept of tipping at a buffet where you get and cook your own food. Maybe that's just me though.
I'd be willing to try somewhere new and within walking distance. Il Mee is only ~15 minutes away from the LAN center though so it doesn't really really matter.
Also, I really need to play more Was diamond in beta but havent even played enough gets to get promoted out of platinum yet. This school quarter is kicking my ass- even though I have free time, I just feel like sleeping during it instead o.O. Also nerf terran lol imba etc etc obligatory excuses to not ladder.
Shoot im cool with the schedule I will just bring two packs of cigs and wait for my first match or my second. O yeah forgot to ask this question is it best of 3 when you mean single elimination or just one round and win for the SC2 o hell it doesnt matter I'm still going.
everything is a best of three. Single elimination means you lose in the bracket once and your out. But it starts as a group stage so you can lose games in the group and still go on to win.

Orb might not come I have questioned him about it a few times and he keeps suggesting that he's not going to show. One of you who has known him for 500 years, is cooler than me and knows where he lives should convince him or kidnap him and make him come!
fufufufufu I need to play more. I feel like I know so much about the game because I watch more than some of you guys probably even play, but I need to start playing so that my hands will cooperate
Also, obligatory "terrans op" comment, being a zerg player.
On August 30 2010 19:15 blitzkrieg86 wrote: Man there is going be some tuff opponents at this tourney that orb guy is no joke lol I'm going have to actually practice
isai I still need u to pm me urs and nicks ID's.identifiers so I can add you two to the groups.
Also a couple people on my confirmed list haven't given me their info. registration will close a week before so September 18th it'll be locked and I'll have the groups up the next day.
In 2 weeks I'll be closing registration and randomly generating the groups.
It's very important if you're in one of the first four groups that you show up on time at 11am on LAN day. Due to the size of this tournament there can be no big delays, if your 15-30 minutes late without contacting me beforehand you will get w.o'd. I'll be sending my contact info around via PM in 2 weeks so if your TL name isn't on the confirmed or tentative list you won't get the PM.
I know it's harsh but we're gonna have 40+ people with 2 separate group starting times so it'll be very important to stay on schedule. I promise I'll have the rules packet up in the original post with times/schedule tomorrow.
Also anyone who wants to save having to print up that form you can PM me the info on here. The owner of the LAN center wants the info before lan day so he doesn't have 40+ forms to enter at once.
any zergs wanna practice zvz, i really would like a zvz practice partener, im diamond league 700pts currently so some where around that level but really ill practice with any one cause i don't have many zerg friends on my friends list to practice with.
Hey hatchet I'm low level diamond (zvz is probably my worst mu) but I'll help if I can. Work schedule Is a little busy but I'm free from 630 - 10 pm typically. Let me know
Going to be playing a lot of ladder this weekend to try to catch up to my former D- Iccup, Diamond SC2 glory that was the beta. Next week is finals for me and then I've got another week of hardcore practice!
If you are already a cybergrounds member no need to fill out the form, since they already have your info. The form is strictly for the lan center not for the tournament. But since the tournament is at the lan center using lan center pc's obviously if you've never been there you'll have to fill it out in order to use pc's there.
and of course if you PM me info it will save u having to fill out anything on LAN day. or printing the form yourself.
So it's looking like we'll be around 50 people for this. Just a little over a week of registration. to go. remember if you don't PM me the form info (found at the top of last page) you MUST print and bring a completed form with you on LAN day.
Gonna be split into 2 bunches of 25 on LAN day. Since there are only stations for about 40. We'll have the entire place to ourselves.
This nice thing about this is we're gonna have over $500 in cash prizes now.
Rob, I might suggest trying to PM everyone a friendly reminder that the LAN is coming up. For the regulars I'm sure you can check them off, but with 50 people I imagine theres tons of new faces, who may or may not be new to the DC scene and totally forget about it.
Last LAN (a tragedy in many ways) had a lot of sign-ups but then I remember the tournament didnt start for 2 hours because very few people showed up. Can't have $500 in prizes if half the people show, and only 19 people are green on your list!
I give unto you this responsibility because i am lazy as fuck and because you probably have a more solid list hidden somewhere.
Don't worry Nokarot I've got it taken care of. also remember those who are not green may choose to fill out a form on LAN day or bring the completed form with them. Especially those who may not know me might not feel comfortable messaging a guy on TL they've never met before their name+address etc.
Also in other news I've also got two Logitech MX510 mice, two gift cards to TGI Fridays ($8 each from the lan center) & two USB Mini Keyboard's to give away as part of the prize pool.
I will be able to join you all :D If there is too many signed up I'm cool with sitting. If someone bails (which is likely with some many entrants) I will totally take their spot! Just gotta duck out at a certain time to pick up ArmoredGecko for taking my shift, but will be returning.
No need to walk, just get in contact with some of the people who are driving to the LAN center and they can pick you up I'm sure, like I said its like a <5 minute drive from the metro to the lan center :D
if u don't find ur name.identifier PM me and I'll add u. Due to the size of this it's easy for me to overlook a PM or miss something.
also remember this lan will be split into 2 parts basically. 24 people will play the early groups, then the next 25 play the later groups (3 or so hours later) then the bracket stage starts in the afternoon.
With the number of people presumably going to the LAN and given that it's as close to the metro as people say it is I'm sure we can get some people to drop-off/pick-up anyone who needs transport from the station
One thing that should be noted is I'm predetermining the bracket stage, since nnilf's fail lan generated a random bracket after group play (and caused some controversy) this time group winners will be guaranteed to play a #2 in the ro16. Also you will be in a separate bracket than your group winner so there won't be any rematches in the bracket stage until possibly the finals which is unlikely.
Up to 47 in the tournament! Generating groups as soon as I get 48. There are a couple guys in the tournament that I'm not 100% sure if they are playing or not (haven't sent out confirmation PM's yet) So there will probably be some replacement room but we're nearing capacity now.
6 man groups will be PERFECT. 3 1v1's at once, nobody stuck waiting around... and it guarantees the worst player in the universe still gets 5 tournament matches!
Now I see deva is coming too the guy played against orb on blistering sands this should be a very good tourny. Deva is no joke but I hope he is also going as zerg and running his roach build.
I might not be good but I can serve as a replacement if anyone drops . BTW is there any way I can help out except for paying the fee and just being there and watch the games? Like assist with the tournament etc. Well anyways.
K this LAN is sold out...MLG style! Only people that will be added from now on will be people I missed/forgot to add or replacements.
I'll be running the tournament along with Torenhire basically so we're pretty good in that regard.
If anyone wants to do a scouting mission for possible dinner locations that would be ridiculously helpful for me. Locations along Lee Hwy there or near the Vienna metro stop (within a mile of the lan center) are what we would be shooting for. I haven't had time to search as much as I'd like or get over there. Don't know if anyone lives right there or knows the area super well. I live on the other side of Fairfax lol.
Backup plan is Il Mee after but that's like an 8 minute drive and we go there ALL the time as it is.
The time has come once again for another DC LAN. For the first time ever with STARCRAFT 2 as our primary game!

LF, should we be bringing $20 at the door or is there any kind of paypal or something we can sign up with before? I never carry cash, just my debit, so I gotta know whether I need to stop by an ATM or what.
If you don't see your name.identifier on this list and you were planning to play in the tournament PM me asap. I'll be generating groups tomorrow. There's basically gonna be 2 bunches of 26 people to play out the group stages. I forgot to add a few people that contacted me from way long ago so we're gonna be a few over 48, this will lead to a couple groups with 7 players but I'm sure there will be a couple no shows so we shouldn't have any big problems.
Again I apologize for having to get things started at the ridiculously early hour of 11am but unfortunately we will have ALOT to do on Saturday due to the size of this lan. VERY IMPORTANT TO SHOW UP ON TIME!
You will only be guaranteed PC access for the time your allocated to play. If you're in group E and show up at 11am you can feel free to watch/socialize but you won't be guaranteed a PC till your groups play time which would be 1pm. The LAN center has about 40 pc's plus stations for laptops and some people are bringing laptops... so you may have a PC but paid tournament players obviously get preference.
Sadistx, Orb... blood is going to be spilled this day. I will embrace the fury of a thousand nerds to smack you both down. And all ya'll other fools in my group, PREPARE FOR DOMINATION!
It would be super awesome if you guys could get a stream running for this event like orb was talking about on his stream the other day. Is anyone considering it?
Yes tomorrow sadistx and I will be heading to the lan center to see about setting a livestream up on one of the pc's and then possibly use orb's stream to stream/cast games.
That would certainly be sweet but I'm hard pressed to believe a LAN center running at full capacity has the bandwidth to support that. Here's hoping, though.
The answer is D because I'm in it. I think my non-joke answer is F though,
lol.
Can I use my official rules position to get me out of Lastshadow's group? Rofl.
Also, Rob, should I still load up and bring my laptop? As another playing station? I don't mind loaning it out (loaning being a very, VERY loose meaning) for people to play.
Yeah go ahead and bring the laptop. We need as many playing stations as possible since there's gonna be 234012845 people coming to this and we only have like 40 pc's.
Holy shit I need to shake this guy's hand and apologize for my DT abuse
Also, despite the fact that I put in the time off request AGES ago at work, they scheduled me for the 25th. I told them and they said it must've been from them moving to a new system for scheduling and they'd try to get it changed.
TBH if they don't change it i'm just going to call in sick, I gave them PLENTY of forward notice.
ALSO: ban battlelcruisers from play in the tourney amirite?
TBH I'm just going to smash someone's face with their own keyboard if they build battlecruisers
edit: oh wait patch is going to be before the lan

i can't wait to try to defend proxy 6 rax reaper when i literally can't afford to get a zealot before core and still get a stalker out asap and therefore can't defend against the reaper

Cannons? I don't fucking know, I don't know anything about protoss except void rays are annoying as piss.
how could I not have realized before that the flyer doesn't mention anything about registering with me on TL for the tournament...
People who see the flyer at the lan center will think to just show up on saturday at noon.
This is a bit of a predicament. I am suddenly hoping a bunch of the 1 and 0 post users that I have entered now forget to show up in case we get 10 or more locals that walk on on lan day.
worse comes to worse I'll just add them to groups and we switch to bo1's in the group stage. That's only if we have 50+ for the tournament which I have a hard time believing is gonna happen, but hey it's sc2... anything is possible.
ur gonna rage anyway. I just hope the cameras are rolling when it happens.
<3
I really don't want to change to bo1's though. bo1's lower the skill level and hurt the tournament cuz crappy cheesy players are suddenly godlike (not like they aren't already)
On September 19 2010 14:30 -orb- wrote: if i end up bo1ing and i get knocked out by some bad cheese from some random that shows up that day you know i'm going to rage irl
This is my first time checking the website since I signed up a few weeks ago, and holy shit this looks like it's going to be so much fun. This will be my first time going to a Starcraft tourney, did some dota/ssbm a while ago but this is what I've been waiting for.
Just looked at everyone in my pool....Avilo, you scare me. Ahh I need to try and actually get my work done at a reasonable time this week so I can practice after the patch drops.
I'm planning to bring my own mouse and mouse pad, that's okay, right? Are there any random rules I might not know about that could get me disqualified or anything?
On September 19 2010 17:28 Nokarot wrote: EDIT: Actually now that I think about it, anyone want to take bets that the name change is going to with Tuesdays patch and cause havoc for us all?
If we're lucky it won't be a reset for everyone and it's just a free one you get from account management at battle.net.
Also, Rob might wanna get the external IP from the LAN cafe and tell Blizzard we're having a tourney and like 40 pcs will be accessing the game. So we don't get some stupid meltdown and only like 6 people can log on.

Is there some blizzard starcraft2 tournament email or should I just email some overall blizzard support?
I have no idea how to go about doing this or if it was going to be a problem. Screw sc2 and no lan support!
And we're on the TL calendar...holy shit that's epic.
and if you posted in the thread or pm'd me in early august or something and don't see urself in any of the groups just post here and I'll add you.

planning and making this shiz happen smoothly isn't ez...
This is such a hell week for me. I have a big time interview on tuesday, I have a web project I have to have finished by Thursday and among all this I have to deal with the endless pm's/emails I get about this lan and putting together all the peoples information for the lan center... and then lan on saturday....
Oh about dinner, I'm not making reservations anywhere for the entire group.
I cannot have to worry about finishing at "x" time or feel rushed to finish anything or skip finals like we've done in the past. There's too many people and the tournament is too important this time around to have to worry and deal with stuff like that.
There are a few quick food places around the lan center if people get hungry and food at the lan center.
Also if there are more than 6-7 a group the entire group stage will shift to bo1's. This will only happen if too many walk ons show up which might or might not happen. I have to honor the flier that was posted in the lan center weeks ago. Also if you contacted me after the tournament was full you're absolute best chance to play will be to show up early (10:30-11am) and fill a no show.
Early group no shows who don't contact me will be replaced promptly at 11:15am. Late group no shows will be replaced at 1:15 (or 15 minute after the later groups are starting)

I'm going to dig around the Blizzard site for you and send out some E-Mails, maybe phone it in.
Make a magical clip board with all the infos and give a few copies to a couple people to help you out for those with questions. Would probably make your life much easier on Saturday.
i can't wait to try to defend proxy 6 rax reaper when i literally can't afford to get a zealot before core and still get a stalker out asap and therefore can't defend against the reaper
Reapers and bunkers get the same build time increase I thought..
its all +5 seconds. And I don't think proxy 6 racks will be an issue since you can't support 6 racks, only 9 racks reaper. And a zealot wont do anything either since it'll get kited.
O yea what is a good hotel or motel to go to near that area im traveling 3 hours to get to this place on friday staying a night in one them good hotel or motel I don't wanna end up getting robbed or shot from being near some bad neighborhood. Also goodluck for ajtls your my first to face off in this tournament I've seen some youtube with you playing against some guy with protoss and you were using muraders and bansees that game was pretty nice.
My brother jesse is coming to btw so goodluck to him as well I pray to Chuck Norris that we don't end up going against eachother to quickly he just seems to end up just countering what I do.
'ajtls' wont be able to reply, since he doesnt have an account on TL, as for a place to stay, try talking to some of the people who offer a place to stay ie: Storr
On September 22 2010 05:20 avilo wrote: group stage bo1 or bo3s vs each person?
bo1's.
I know that hurts the competitive nature of having the "Best players advance" but it will simply take too long to bo3 every person in a group if your group has 7 people in it. (or more if I end up having to accommodate some walk ons)
Alot of us tune into SirazTV regularly so we can watch the morning qualifiers if we're in the evening group. Or maybe he will just do bracket play. Up to him, really. I'll forward his info to you, Rob. :D
Actually that's perfect to have a caster from outside doing the casting. He'll need to be available for a good chunk of Saturday. I'm sure people would want to see some orb/lastshadow group stage games and then bracket games/finals at a minimum.
And that way we don't have to worry about casting from the lan center if he can stream games from his PC. It's a shame I didn't work out casting earlier or it would have been much easier to get some major sponsorship for this.
I'm so used to my little old 12 man broodwar lans in the basement of seoul pc...
we have pc set up at the lan center for streaming (probably gonna set up either orb or lastshadow on there) and SirazTV is interested in casting select games.

Also this weekend is gonna suck (for me). I'm never home for more than like, one game and when I get home early enough for a night of SC2 I just pass out cause I'm so F'ing tired. LOL.
I should get half the prize pool if I don't lose the first game of the night. hahaha. Ah well. only a few more days left! This shit is gonna be bananas.
Umm..like Monday or Tuesday. He should poke his head here soon. If I can manage to get any sc2 iin, I have his char ID.
Also if it comes down to needing it, just give Gretorp my slot in the tourney. I haven't played but around 4 games the last two weeks cause of my daily drive from Manassas to Baltimore Mon-Sat. I'm just a free-win. When are you showing up to the LAN center on Sat? Been pinging your phone for days trying to get in touch but you must not like talking to me.
Good news is that it looks like I ACTUALLY HAVE Saturday off!!! I can't believe it! Lol. I will believe it when I am there!
o sorry I haven't been texting back cuz I'm back on a shitty phone plan without unlimited texting. once I start working again that'll change.
I'll be showing up early to the lan center. Not sure exactly when but I'm driving somebody from Mason now and I'll have to get there by 10:30am to get ready and work a few things out.
On that note I can pick up one (comfortably) to three people from the metro station. Will be there early though. Can drop people off as well, if they'd like.
If you are trying to fit into the second row of seats in my car, be small. The firebird has NO legroom. Ask Rob lol.
what I think I will do is assign ppl to be refs for a few groups, so like zlasher is boss of groups A and B, Torenhire is boss of C and D, Geno E,F and so on. You guys should make sure the players know who else is in their group and play games in a timely fashion etc etc.
Else there'll be too much "who's joeblow.123" and they'll spend 30 minutes asking around trying to figure it out.
I will be printing out like 5 or 6 copies of the groups and pre registered player information and rule sheets and bringing all of that with me.
I'll be running checkin and taking entry money so as people come in they will have to checkin with me.
Two morning, to afternoon groups each. Could have people check in w/ you and then maybe find their respective group "boss" so we know who is who. That way you can focus on getting the stream of people checked in/signed up/in groups and Zlasher and I can keep the tourney flowing.
Oh, just though of something...is the pc stations there numbered somehow? If you have a sheet there at check in...
Torenhire.524______________PC 12
And have a seperate page for each group to give to the group boss, then we know who is where and who is who. I think the hardest part is going to be keeping the games moving at a steady pace. Trying to think of how we can streamline it.
That way when people are looking for the next opponent they come to group boss, "who is next?" And we can say Zlasher, PC 22 or w/e.
Ya the PC's are numbered and we'll have the whole place so as people checkin I can tell them what PC to go to and write it down, I'll have playerlists printed out.
And yeah I mean comfortable ride from the Vienna metro isn't an issue since its like a 4 minute drive lol, Toren, can you PM me your phone number just in case Chris dies or something and I can't get a hold of him, so that me and my 2 friends can get a ride (we're 3 asians, the other two are small so it wont be an issue)
gretorp def won't go into avilo, lastshadow or orbs group. I'm trying to spread good players out between groups as best I can. Groups A or G are the most likely destinations at this point but again it'll also depend on who needs replacement.

That's global ranking, not points. You are one of the lowest ranked diamond players (76,682nd position out of 87,495).
Looks like the top 5 or 6 players are spread out nicely after all.
Midi is going to replace Torenhire and Gretorp will most likely take Nero's spot. Nero is dropping out unfortunately even with 2 months notice he could not get off work. fail!
Also if anyone normally plays on a laptop and wants to bring it there's space for about 5 laptops. I know 2 or 3 people have said they will probably bring a laptop but we could have a few others. (preferably people who are planning to play in the tournament)
We can only have around 30-35 people playing at once altogether but it shouldn't be too big of an issue as long as ppl play their games and dont waste time.
I don't grind ladder, I practice customs with friends. Admittedly, I'm not very amazing and expect to get trashed at MLG- I'm just going for fun. Also I play zerg sooooooo.... what do you expect
Don't hate though Don't care if I get last place in both this LAN and MLG, it's all just for fun for me.

I will bring mine and loan it out to someone who I know from the local DC meets....I'll loan it out to others if we need, but I would be hovering around them if they're not local. Not that I don't trust TL folk, but after the whole incident at Storr's place I would just rather play safe. TL Dinner crew gets dibbies. :D

I will doublecheck tonight but it will have no issues running SC2.
Metrorail customers traveling between the Vienna/Fairfax-GMU and West Falls Church-VT/UVA Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes to their travel time because Metro will replace cross ties and weld new rail on the tracks in that area to keep them in a state of good repair. Trains will share one track between these locations the entire weekend from 10 p.m. Friday, September 24, to closing (midnight) on Sunday, September 26.
Throughout the weekend, every other Orange Line train traveling in the direction of the Vienna/Fairfax-GMU Metrorail station will terminate at the West Falls Church-VT/UVA Metrorail station and return to the New Carrollton Metrorail station.

Can still show up. Walk-ins / no-shows! Always a chance! If you don't get into the tournament, there's going to be a ton of people there to play with and hang out with.
shit, most of our get-togethers don't involve BW/SC2 playing (the weekly dinner nights) and those are a lot of fun. I REALLY suggest you come along, even if you don't get into the tournament.
Oh, just saw the post above...I'm down for a brunch before the LAN. Where you guys planning on going?

Woot. Finally part of something greater.
Me and Cpeter have a running thing going that if people offensive GG us, we write in supply depots/pylons/tumors in some corner, so when we reveal, they get to read.
Today I made a giant FU out of pylons on Xel and it made me feel good about myself.
The dude raged so hard over it...I guess people can't do things for fun without being told to "cry some more noobie" or whatever.. We just do it cause it's funny. The whole "fuck yes, we get to write!" thing. I can count the times on one hand where I've gotten angry enough to quit/walk away from a match. Can't a guy write things in pylons without being told to rage harder? I wasn't raging to begin with! but now I am cause you're being a dumbass!
I hate you internet. [/endrant]
Edit: we also got 2v1 by some diamond terran after we beat the crap out of his silver league buddy. Little man went mass reapers and I was VR rushing and while silver dude kept going reapers to counter my VRs (lol) the diamond dude went marine/marauder/tank/viking. We got rolled so hard. hahaha.
I got like...a whole 6 or 7 matches in tonight. Woot!

Unless you're talking about [TAD]nilff, but don't go around talkin shit about rob when he does a great job with these lans. Plus, like I said, everyone will be facing someone good once you get to a certain stage anyways.

Not in best of 1's vs 1400-1700 Terrans with no choice of map while other groups like group A have no1 above 1000 diamond. No biggie though, I'll work out some amazing strategy tonight... lol
So you're afraid of 1400-1700 Terrans why? If you're better you'll win. Keep in mind EVERYONE is in the same shoes in your group and has to play everyone else, so what advantage would they have over you?
If Rob wanted to throw himself in the easy group he'd have put him in A, B, G (since this was before Gretorp confirmed).
Anyways, if you don't think you can beat any given player in this tournament then you don't even think of yourself as the favorite, and if you can't think of yourself as the favorite then you shouldn't be complaining about groups when they are fairly spread out for randomized brackets.
Btw, have we confirmed it'll be BO1's for groups? Theres like a million people at this tournament so there probably isn't a choice, but just wanting to see it for sure.

Yeah its np ill just abuse ultras.. if I can get that far lol
And yeah Lucky said they are BO1 somewhere in this thread I believe
"All group matches are bo1, bracket stage is bo3 except for semi finals and finals which are bo5."
I would rather do bo3's but for times sake I'm thinking we need to go with bo1's. Figuring an average of 15 minutes a game even getting 6 games in a period of under 2 hours is cutting it close.
Also if anyone has problems with the groups or thinks anything is fixed here just don't come to the tournament. I looked for 1 thing and 1 thing only when the groups were randomized, if the top users were in separate groups. I'm working hard to provide a fair and super fun tournament here I don't need people accusing it of being rigged.

so basically find ur opponent say hey what map u want if you can't agree then Metalopolis is the map. I've set it up this way so HOPEFULLY people aren't stuck playing metalopolis every game in their group but it could happen if ur stuck in a bitchy group.
It was in GSL I think which is why I included it. If people want to vote in something else I'm all for it. would have to be a 2 player map (I wanted 3 four player and 3 two player maps) so it's either that or blistering or desert oasis. or an iccup map or some other custom but I wanted to go with maps that were most popular and people might have been practicing most.
Don't underestimate my ultras Zlasher... they r coming 4 the planetary fortresses. And thanks Lucky, guess I am bad at reading. I would love to play metalopolis every game =D

^what he said. Group G = Group of Death.
I'm soooo not confident in my 1v1 play at all. I've been playing so many team games and Halo Reach. Whatever, I'll just mass ladder games right now and see what happens tomorrow .
by the way a word of warning to morning group people; If you're not there by 11:15-11:30 your spots will be filled by people who are there, so show up early! The place is opening and I'll be starting checkin for morning groups at 10:30am.
also remember if your not on the morning group (Groups, A,B,C,D) list you won't be guaranteed to get on a pc until the morning group stage games finish around 1-1:30pm or if a pc opens up. we'll be shuffling people around as the day goes on as games need to be played.
also skinny alex whats the deal with brunch tomorrow?!

that's my plan unless alex has a better idea.(and lets us know soon!) We'll probably get there around 9:30am.
I've been to that IHOP a few times. It's great.
Hopefully only a few of us show up so that there isn't like, 30 people there. No offense to anyone else. Rofl. Poor IHOP.
Our secret admin brunch plans were leaked all over the internet. :o now how are we supposed to rig the tournament so Luckyfool wins!?!
Blame skinny alex! If a shitton of nerds show up to IHOP he can pay for em all.
Rob, since I've got you here - what is the LAN center taking from the $20 Entry Fee? (Feel free to PM me instead of putting it here.) I'm curious as to what the cost is to rent out the place (essentially). Also, how are you going to keep the entry fee money and the donations to prize pool money seperate?
Do those of us not in the tournament need the 20 bucks as well?
So I was updating my laptop's SC2 so whoever can use it at the LAN center... I left it on my bed updating away as I sit here at my desktop.
It's dark, quiet, and all of a sudden I hear...BWWWWOOOOOOEEESSSSHHHHHOOOOOOO (the SC2 startup noise.) so loud I fell out of my damn chair. Scared the piss outta me.
There is no charge to those coming just to watch. If I charged a spectator fee for a starcraft 2 tournament I'd be in trouble with blizzard very quickly.
per player; $10 goes to venue $10 goes to prize pool.
So assuming 50 players, about $500 in prizes (more if spectators donate anything) and $500 to lan center.
edit: essentially I owe the lan center $10 for every person that shows up. I'll be in a bit of a bind if say nobody comes but I have a great relationship with the owner of the place who is totally psyched to have a bunch of sc2 nerds use his lan center for a tournament so it's all straight yo.
I expect StorrZerg to put up a good showing. In light of all the match history problems, he's been practicing his super secret builds on a smurf account and only playing random 3v3s on his main account.
The only reason it got iffy if it was open to everyone vs staff folk was because we are kind of nervous that we'll storm the IHOP with a crapton of people and that'd blow goats. It's not that we want to say so and so can/can't come along. c.c
I'd say if you guys want to, go for it. It doesn't look like the thread exploded with a crapton of people wanting to go, anyhow.

if your going to ihop, just a few more minutes down the road is Amphora which is like ihop but more delicious. they used to be out in alexandria (near the red lobster) and went by the name Four Seasons.
scratch the ihop idea that'd be a nightmare to pay and take much longer, penara is not only closer to the lan place but faster and less wait for a larger group.
so I printed out the player lists and uh we have liek so many ppls coming tomorrow omggggg this is gonna be sum bad lulz if all 56 ppl show at once mang plz if u play in an afternoon group show up in the afternoon or u will not have a pc 2 use kthxbye.
Ok so the format is 8 groups of ~7 players, the first group stages are mostly done, but the afternoon groups are going now. Right now the current people who have advanced are as following:
Isai v Group H#2 Group F#1 v Shiver Group G#1 v IPP Avilo v Group E#2 Carpola v Group G#2 Group E#1 v erolivia LastShadow v Group F#2 Group H#1 v cheesegrater
That is also how the bracket stage plays out, so far Gretorp is 2-0 (for you Xeris), and he's in group G so if he wins out he will be in the avilo/shiver half of the bracket, but opposite LastShadow
I'll try to update as often as possible as more results come in.
Isai (4-0) v Andori (3-1) orb (5-0) v Shiver (3-1) Gretorp (6-0) v IPP (3-2) Avilo (4-0) v Fitz (4-1) Carpola (4-0) v Halation (4-2) LuckyFool (5-0) v erolivia (4-1) LastShadow (5-0) v Sadistx (3-2) Devaztayta (4-0) v cheesegrater (3-1)
So thats the RO16, played in that order, hopefully we'll be able to turn on the stream real soon.
If anyone wants to be updated not watching the stream
Gretorp was up 1-0 on avilo, game 2 gretorp is pretty decently ahead of avilo, bnet 2.0 dc's, have to regame, gretorps not happy
meanwhile, orb is playing isai, they are 1-1 and game 3 goes on, orb is 3x the workers of isai, on 2 full saturation bases against 1 half saturated base, but isai has 3 medivacs 10 marauders 14 marines, while orb has 10 zealots 10 stalkers, but 51 probes to 18 scvs...on two base, as the race that reproduces an army way faster.
Gretorp lost game 2's regame, so now its 1-1 there going to game 3, orb is playing game 3, they're both not happy, deservedly so. We can't give wins to people without any engagements and without any person who dc'd, since it was bnet's fault.
shitty situation to be in for both of them. absolutely retarded situation.

it's a joke, the tournament admins are clearly in the wrong (good job putting anything about disconnects in the rules...) and IsAi is a BM bad player who's taking extreme advantage over an unfortunate situation.

I was not prepared to play a bo5, I was playing with a bo3 mindset. Sorry, but if you don't realize how different it is for playstyle and mind games to play a bo3 or a bo5 you don't understand tournaments at all.
Not to mention the fact that it wasn't a bo5 anyways. Even if you give him the regame we're only 2-2 (though in reality since it's a bo3 I'm 2-1 against him) so he shouldn't be advancing

The lan center didn't DC, it's blizzard's fault. Look in SC2 general forum, there's threads about DCs happening today in the same way ours did:

Nobody was saying orb would lose the game lol.
My suggestion is, and obviously we can't implement this now, but if a disconnect happens when the advantage is that big, I say that the series gets extended to a BO5, and the disconnect goes to orb, that way he gets the advantage he deserves, but its not an automatic win.
This way, game 4 is played, again on Lost Temple, if orb wins Game 4, its 3-1 Orb wins (much like if orb won a regame it'd be 2-1 in a BO3). If Isai wins Game 4, then it would be 2-2 and orb gets the map pick for game 5, once again getting an advantage that he deserves.
Thats my suggestion, I thought its reasonable, it won't be implemented this time but oh well.

This would have been bad but still more reasonable than "hey let's give your opponent a huge advantage and make you do a bo1 against that huge advantage"
For fucks sake the "re" had to be done on the same map too so it wasn't even like the 4th game of a bo5. Even if we were to redo it as a bo5 he wouldn't get to play LT again for the 4th game... the most terran favored map in the entire fucking mappool
I agree with the fact that a pure regame favors him 100000000% The options sucked, I came up with that idea after they already decided which is too bad. If anything that would have allowed you to pick a Protoss map, delta or BS and just take the advantage you deserved. Nothing I can do anymore though.

Come on, Really? Was it a perfect tournament? No.
Was it a perfect solution to what happened? No.
90% of the people at the LAN saw the rep over your shoulder, or his shoulder, and they all agreed on a re-game being the best solution. I understand being upset over it but to call out the whole LAN, and calling out Rob, it's just ridiculous.
You were ahead, yes. Again, a good majority of the people there agreed that the game wouldn't have been over at that exact moment. Thus, a regame. If he was in the middle of getting owned because he attacked your nat, it would have been reasonable to say you had the lead and give you the win. If he was in the process of killing your nat and moving into your main after your army went down, it would be reasonable to give him the win.
You think it was easy to give the regame? Do you really think I wanted to have to do that to either of you? Come on, dude. We've known each other for a good while and I wouldn't do something like that just because I wanted to fuck you over. Shit, I didn't know Isai until tonight. If I was really in the mood to rig the tournament, I'd have advanced you because you're a regular with us. I apologized to you like 50 times when I said I was going to have to give a regame. I didn't just walk up to you and be like "Fuck it, regame". I really didn't want to have to call a regame on Gretorp, either...at least he understood that, I am pretty sure.
I said, "I hate doing it but the majority is calling for a regame. Sorry, but I can't just advance you since it wasn't clear who would have won." Or something along those lines.
I guess you were too busy calling me a fucking moron or whatever to notice that I really didn't want to do it.

Grats luckyfool on hosting a useless tournament with illegitimate results
Thanks.
ggs all, it was a fun LAN. You ran the tourney very well imo, I'm glad you guys allowed the re-games instead of giving autowins to people with "celebrity/reputation." It was run very fair imo. If anything all the anger should be directed towards blizz/bnet .5 imo this no LAN stuff is total bullshit.
For my games vs gretorp, the second game he was at a slight advantage, but not so much that I would have been happy with a freewin given against myself in that position. It was really winnable for either of us at that point. And anything can happen at a LAN.
Gretorp played better than me so he won in the end, but thanks for not just giving a free-win due to reputation. I do not know about Isai's game vs orb, so I cannot really say much about that.
You/Gretorp were in a very similar situation. One player was ahead but it wasn't to a point where it was a definative "Yes, you won."
Thanks to you for being a good sport about it, even though you ended up losing the round. I think you two had the most intense TvT of the night, that game 1 was freaking nuts. Lasted a long time, as well.
Well played, everyone. Thanks for those who are happy/appreciative of the work that was put into it.
Big thanks to Luckyfool for coordinating it all, being the overmind of the LAN. GenoZStriker for helping me in the group stages, I am ridiculously tired and I only took half of the groups. I doubt I'd have been able to do all of them on my own. MorningMasume for helping Rob with the hosting and check-ins for the evening groups. Zlasher for keeping the stream/thread up to date with results - no way in hell I'd have been able to keep both the tournament going and the TL posts. Good call getting into the stream and relaying info to them, too. Corrupt for standing around and doing nothing. He was very adamant on getting thanked for that, so I shall oblige.
Thanks to Cyberground for letting us use the whole building. Mr. Kim is an AWESOME host, and just an awesome guy in general. I tried to talk him into playing next LAN. He said he'll also work on some sponsors next time - he used up his budget on a giant Street-Fighter 4 Tournament he had earlier in the year - 50" Sony LCD TV for first place!!
And thanks to everyone for showing up and making it quite possibly the biggest and most epic LAN we've had out here in DC so far. Congrats to the winners, looking forward to seeing you guys out there next time.
Disclaimer: I know I performed pretty poorly post group-stage so...not saying I'm great.
Moving forward, I've watched Orb's livestream before and seen him rage and I was pretty excited to see him do it IRL, too bad I left before it. You're not really helping your case at all by swearing up and down, calling anyone BM after that is pretty hypocritical; especially when you make it personal calling him fat. Not cool bro.
Grats to all, I thought the tournament was pretty fun and well run overall. Do it again soon <3

Luckyfool is a dark-horse, man. You beat everyone in your group save Isai. Luckyfool ended up beating a couple people he was supposed to lose to. Mainly Lastshadow. You did really well. You had the second best record of the morning groups (behind an undefeated Iasi)
About time Rob finally did well in one of his own LANs. Feel like he deserves it. 8ish LANs and he almost always gets knocked out in Quarterfinals. lol.

LOL. Back on that couch I imagine? I didn't even know where you went, and then suddenly you appeared with a shitton of dollar bills in your hand
Thanks CheeseGrater for the ride. Hope to see you at MLG and good luck ^_^. Same for Avilo. Was nice to meet all you. Thanks Torenhire and LuckyFool for letting me help with the tournament.

I was tempted, oh my goodness. Problem was if I slept on the couch I would've slept through everything rofllllll. I actually took the chair Alex used when she was playing and semi-knocked out
As for the dollar bills, I loved handling money kekekeke. Handing out the prizes was fun too. I got shafted with the cameras but its ok; neither me or Rob thought it was worth driving back to Woodbridge to get another one.
Isai was SIGNIFICANTLY more behind than you were, regames were given in both situations, its a shitty problem that we even have to be in that scenario, but like you said, its nobodys fault at the LAN's, only blizzard/bnet 2.shit
Lan was a blast. I met a ton of people and not sure i have all your names but add me on bnet and we can play. Thanks to rob and everyone else for organizing it. Do it again soon. Please!
I had a great time even though I lost all my games >.> lol. Everything was ran well and on time as far as I was concerned. Also, the cafe was pretty neat. I wish there were lan centers nearer to Maryland.
a bo5 would have been an all around great solution. but it's not the end of the world (read: shouldn't be the end of the world) - knowledge for the future.
hope to see more cybergrounds lans in the future.
edit- and yeah why is no one talking about how on-time this was run. nice work.

Time to make a blog, was an awesome lan
We can agree to disagree, and (hopefully) you don't take it personally, I just don't feel like it was significant enough of a lead to award a win to anyone.
Anyhow. Fuck you Bnet 2.0 You always mess up on LAN day.

I can't believe Geno and I kept things moving as well as we did. VERY minimal delays and the times people DID end up having to sit out gave them a good break from playing 5 games in a row. Still, thanks again to Geno for helping me keep groups running. 2 groups at once wore me the hell out. XD
I can't imagine how tired Rob must be after today. Waking up before 8 AM, organizing the lan, getting a very respectable 2nd place (with a total of ~15 games played during the day, some of them absolutely insane) and only getting home around 12AM.
Blog written :D hope everyone can make a comment or rate it or anything like that
PS: Future lans will probably be held there again since its a great location, the owners are super super nice to us, and gave us group discounts, gave us the lan center for the whole day, and are even going to try to help out with sponsors next time, I couldn't imagine leaving cybergrounds PC, they did such an amazing job today.
Best part - they brought me and Rob dinner afterwards. :D
I talked with Mr Kim for a bit in between some of the matches - he's a really cool guy. We talked about progamers in Korea and getting him entered into our tournaments and whatnot. While we were talking he was like "I chat with PC Bang owners over in Korea every now and then, I should talk with them. Maybe a Korea PC Bang vs Cybergrounds match!"
Course it would have to be BW because LOL regional ladder.

I went 2-3 on iccup if that meant anything lolllllllllll
Amazing LAN, amazing staff, amazing venue, amazing everything. It's a shame that certain events caused such drama and put everyone in a dour mood, but I agree with the decision (wouldn't bo5 either, that sounds silly to me. another topic for another day though)
I actually didn't get as many pictures as I'd hope. The lighting was tragic. Only at the end I was able to get a few, but because everything was going so fast I had to automate all my camera settings, and not all of them turned out as well as I'd have liked. Maybe y'all wont notice the difference but I will
Gonna pull them off my camera now, will update this post in 20 mins tops. Probably only 3-4 pictures will make the cut.
Super fun well ran, big ups to geno and toren for keeping everything moving quickly during the group stages. Thanks to Rob for the large amount of organizing beforehand and during. And big ups to Gretorp, was fun being his woooo girl for the round of 16 on.
Siraz for casting today for us. totally awesome job!
Torenhire and Geno for being totally awesome especially with keeping everything on time. Our schedule was very tight but these two kept up with everything amazingly well. I just did the easy part of checking people in. These two had to keep track of EVERYONE, what pc's people were on, who had to play who, made sure the players had all the identifiers/character information of their opponents etc etc I could go on and on.
Kim (the lan center owner) for being totally awesome, buying us dinner, and being right there to help when tech problems happened.
to all our tournament players, I hope you had an enjoyable experience. If you have any suggestions on how to improve for the future please pm or email me. We already had some awesome talk during dinner (spinaldashes idea) on setting up the two tv screens in the back to be side by side first person views of players in the semi finals/finals. I'll work on making this happen if/when the next tournament happens.
Zlasher for being a total boss all day updating TL, helping update the brackets, tracking results, keeping the stream moderated.
and everyone that I might have missed, there are so many names. I was amazed at how many people were hanging around to watch all the games, it's awesome how intense this tournament felt. I love it, the intensity and competition is why I kept playing broodwar for so many years. So very epic yo.
and how could I almost forget morningmusume for being an awesome master of ceremonies! and running some afternoon check in.
Awesome LAN! Great success all around! Huzzahs are in order!
Also, thanks a lot you jerks for getting me back interested in this game. As if I wasn't unproductive enough already! Eesh! I'll see you nerds, and my 700 bonus pool points (lol), on bnet!
had a great time, the lan was well run and the staff did a great job can't wait for the next lan, i met some new people. can't wait for the next and hopefully i will see some of u at mlg dc.
The ride home was horrible i left at about 11:30 i think, sat in traffic til 12:40 and got home around 2:00. And i think i got a ticket cause on the baltimore beltway there was a thing taking radar telling how fast u were going and i was in a hurry to get home didn't even notice it until a big flash went off and there were no other cars around. ( I got a ticket in the same fashion a few months ago on the same beltway(695) going the other direction.) ohh well none the less i had a great time and ill be training to hopefully come back and do better next time!

Hahaha. Nice job.
You definately need to come to these things more often (as I do). You are one of the more interesting guys to hang with!
I'll be a practice partner for you so you sweep the next LAN undefeated.
haha Geno u were amazing yesterday, would love to have you do something similar for the next time whenever that is.
Which will probably be sooner rather than later. October will be dominated by MLG but I'll probably find myself putting something together for a weekend sometime in early November. For now it's definitely break time though.
I get the feeling Chris might noob out and stop coming down and giving me rides for future events, since he's not so much in to SC2 So if any of ya'll are around Springfield and/or willing to drive me to and from home (not metro) certain events then I would be much obliged. PM me if you need my address to check for distances or whatever- I'd like to say its 20 mins from Ill Mee but I'm not entirely sure.
I'm actually starting driving school soon so hopefully this will be a non issue in a few months, but with MLG and a potential November LAN, I feel its best to look for back up plans a little bit in advance, or at least find out if anyone is in Springfield.
don't worry I will always find ways to lure my lover to future lan's.
I will guarantee him a ceremonial bo3 broodwar show match streamed right before the tournament finals just for him. He could never resist an offer like that.
Really great tournament. It was very well run and I had a great time. I was nervous about my group and was just happy to make it out of my group alive, winning 3 in a row but losing to Avilo. In brackets, I got pwned by DevAzTaYtA (1700+ beastly toss), but I pretty much expected that.
The rage was very enjoyable by Orb and Gretorp. I was surprised Gretorp was able to keep his composure and win game 3 vs. Avilo after kicking chairs and running outside like a maniac. I was most impressed by the speed at which Gretorp, LastShadow, and Avilo played. I definitely have a lot of practice to do.
Anyways, thanks to the hosts for a great tourney and I look forward to getting pwned by you guys at MLG
You did not see when he lost the regame to Avilo? He raged kick a chair and walked out LOL. But it's good because he regained his composure afterwards.
I saw a chair get kicked back, thought he punched it but i don't remember him walking out after game 2. After game 4 though I heard that he just walked out the emergency exit in the back, did I mix that up with after game 2?

Yeah he ran outside pissed off after the regame that he lost, then again after he won game 3 in excitement. The emotions were running high and low lol.
So sadly we had a major video fail. There were supposed to be interviews and much more video but after I took this initial 2 minute video I proceeded to forget to turn the camera off, putting it back in its case which started an hour long video of blankness and when skinny alex went to do interviews or take more video the battery was dead.
Posting the one video that I did take is better than nothing though. If anyone has any other pictures/video please do post them here when you can!

I thought you can just plug in your camera into any USB port and it'll charge up your camera lol, oh well. I'll be bringing mine next time, and you won't fail as much ;o

That's what I thought too.
So we gave it to the front desk to plug it into the pc there. Left it for an hour, nothing. Tried 2 other computers, nothing. Brought it home thinking it was dead, plugged it into my PC and it charged fine. Must be something with the firmware or drivers or operating system on my home pc.

I believe Rob and the other hosts said that October will be taken up by MLG but they want to schedule another one soon after that. Pretty sure I heard that but don't hold me to it
Sorry if this is the wrong place but I'm new to the SC scene. I'm actually a vet Super Smash Bros and SF4 player from the MD/VA region, but I'm looking to join the SC scene if there's one here. Is there one?
Again, sorry if this was made in the wrong place. I recognized Cyber Grounds since they also use to host SSB tournaments here in the past. If so, can someone redirect me to the proper thread?
I would say after this past Saturday there absolutely is a sc2 scene in the area.
www.itsgosu.com has postings on SF4 and other tournaments/things in the area. In fact there was a SF4 tournament at the same location one week before on September 18th. I was there and it looked like a pretty good event going on. I don't know where the SSB/SF4 people generally post their event information but I use teamliquid primarily because I know this is the best place to attract sc2 players.
And CheeseGrater is correct. October is all about MLG in DC. Even for those without player passes I highly recommend everyone attend the event just to watch and meet people. Idra, Ret, White-Ra, team EG, team fnatic (which includes gretorp), team root and so many more will be there. pretty much all the top north american players and some of the best Europeans will be coming in.
Shortly I will be starting a thread in the community section for brainstorming/planning for future events (sorta like we have 1 thread for dinner planning, this will be lan/tournament planning) all future events will officially be posted in the sc2 tournament section as they are scheduled.
Both forums have a "MD/VA" within their community regional section where their respective region comes together and is recognized. Was wondering if this was the proper forum to find the same kind of thing.
I'll definitely be at MLG DC.
But yeah, kinda' just wanted to see who our players are in this region and just introduce myself. Who are some of the better known players around here?
Well on saturday we had 5 players in the top 1,000 in global rankings there, Gretorp, Avilo, Lastshadow, Me, and Devaztayta. Other high level players like Theognis were planning to come but had schedule conflicts. Also other high profile/well known players such as Orb and tons of other mid to high range diamond players came and have expressed interest in coming again.
I was very pleased with how competitive and high level the tournament was on Saturday.
as far as what forums to keep an eye on, keep an eye here. This is where I plan to continue advertising events because this is by far the largest sc2 community site where I have the best chances to reach out to the highest level players and most amount of sc2 people. I will always preface thread titles with DC/MD/NOVA so it'll be clear it's a local event.
Yep, if you're interested in DC area stuff check the TL Community section, thats where most local listings are. There isn't any specific like on smashboards or allisbrawl, or SRK, since starcraft has been a competitive online game for 12 years, whereas smash and fighter games were usually local stuff since there was no xbl back then.

i think i managed to get high on yoohoo at that lan which i didn't think was possible, i drank a total of 8 yoohoos and i am thinking about seeking help, not only has my yoohoo abuse caused me to be so messed up i could barely make it to dinner but it is also taking me to the poor house at an astounding 8$ yoohoo bill when the night was over. but good news i am going to rehab and u will see a yoohoo free hatchetwound/hooktits at the next sc 2 lan and perhaps i will preform better considering i won't have yoohoo on the brain. ^^
I am definatly down for practicing msg me some time for sure!!
