There was a LAN tournament hosted in DC. semih drove TAD[nnilf], LouD0G, bukkit, and Dejavu. They were to sleep at StorrZerg's house on Friday and Saturday, attend the LAN on Saturday, eat dinner on Saturday, and then return together on Sunday.
The LAN had an entrance fee for the tournament to cover the cost of using the center. semih and LouD0G left the LAN center without paying. Upon being confronted later, LouD0G offered "I don't care I'm never going back there again." This left the organizers in a difficult spot as they wanted to keep a good relationship with the LAN center. In the end, the LAN center waived one of the fees, and the event's winner, SuperiorWolf, covered the remaining entry fee. He later confronted LouD0G and asked for half the entry fee from each to cover the one remaining fee. LouD0G and semih paid the requested $8. When confronted about why he didn't pay the full amount, he answered "He told us to throw him $8 so we gave him $8. That's your fault for not asking for the full amount."
After the LAN, the majority of the group headed to eat dinner together. semih comments that he doesn't want to eat this dinner. TAD[nnilf] and bukkit began to eat dinner, and later decided, after semih's comment, that they would pretend they hadn't eaten. The four hang out together and act as if they hadn't eaten, and then leave the restaurant without paying. The $20/person tab is picked up by CaucasianAsian and 2 other members.
On Sunday, semih wakes LouD0G up and tells him they are leaving. LouD0G asks what about Dejavu? semih replies that he has been a dick to him all weekend and he is leaving without him. LouD0G says afterwards he had no problems with Dejavu and was unsure of why they were leaving him behind, but didn't want to risk being left behind by semih as well. Apparently there was an issue that Dejavu hadn't given semih gas money, but gas money is traditionally settled up at the end of a trip, not half way. The four (semih, LouD0G, TAD[nnilf] and bukkit) leave Dejavu stranded at StorrZerg's house. StorrZerg called the three numbers he had - none of them answered. When confronted, LouD0G says his phone was dead. Later, he says it was on silent or couldn't hear it, before finally saying that semih instructed them not to answer.
TAD[nnilf] PMs the following message to SuperiorWolf: "Sorry about all the confusion about storrzerg. If he faggot ass ever gets on my facebook account again I will destroy him. enjoy your PC bro and see you online. p.s. the only thing we did that storrzerg claims is true is left deja at his house because we weren't about to drive an extra 4 hours when he was a dick to us the entire weekend. Peace "
In the end, Dejavu had to take a bus to get home, paid for by storrzerg's family.
There have been many, many live Team Liquid events across the globe. I myself have been to many of them from LA to Montreal to Paris to Seoul. Because of the nature of these events, they require a certain amount of trust in your community. I've hosted events in my house. I've let people sleep in my house freely. Similarly, people have invited me into their homes knowing only that I am a Team Liquid member. Many other members have similar stories of providing hospitality to strangers simply because they were Team Liquid members.
Team Liquid prides itself on having a strong, mature community. As we continue to grow in numbers, this tight-knit community is something we will fight to preserve. Believe it or not, saying you are a Team Liquid member carries weight in the RTS community across the world. I've witnessed it first hand.
Honestly, I'm shocked this situation even occurred in this community. The dollar values are irrelevant, but stealing anything from Team Liquid members is unacceptable. Moreover, leaving someone stranded hundreds of miles from his home is shameful.
"We are members of this community" is something semih, TAD[nnilf], LouD0G, and bukkit will no longer be able to say. Beyond having their Team Liquid forum accounts banned, these four are permanently banned from from any event hosted by Team Liquid (all future TSL, TL Invitational, TL Attack, etc. events). Further, if you are hosting a LAN or online tournament, we urge you to follow our lead and not allow them to participate.
That is just an appalling way to act. leaving someone stranded hundreds of miles with no way of getting back is a despicable act and they really deserve more than just a ban from TL.
I'm really surprised and disappointed in Semih. I've known Semih for a while now, and he can be an ass occasionally online, but doing this IRL is crazy. He completely deserves this ban.
What an ass those guys have been... poor storrzerg such a good person for helping out then being picked on by assholes, you have to think about it man, teamliquid is pretty a virtuous community to each member. You really have to check some of the member's posting habit because it could potentially reflect who they are IRL.
Well, one of my dreams is to get to a team liquid event such as blizzcon or TSL etc., but maybe when I'm 28 or 27 that's when I'll get that dream

I have not been on TL for that long, less than a year I would say, lurking or not. About 2 months into regularly posting on team liquid, I had already met a few TL community members in the Washington DC area. Went to a LAN of 30+ people, met people from all over the east coast. Some names are more well known than others, I've met Day[9], LuckyFool, CA, Storr, orb, Haemonculus, Gretorp, HotBid, Intrigue, and so many more. Everyone has always treated each other like friends and family.
It is a complete shame that something like this even happened. I have gone so many months without seeing an issue with members of TL and now this happens, and it is just sad. There are some people known for BM, but then there are people who are just assholes through wahtever medium whether it is real life or on the internet. It is nice to see that justice can be served unfortunately we had to go through such a bad experience in order for this to happen.
Ba ba ban hammered. People like this deserve to be cast out, there is no excuse for such poor behaviour. If I had the money/means to get to one of the live events I would make damn sure that I had enough money for food.
This kind of stuff is absolutely appalling but both SC2GG and TL.net banning these guys is a great reminder of how strong this community is and how this kind of behavior is not tolerated at all. I'm definitely very appreciative of our Starcraft community, especially Teamliquid, and this is the first time in the many LANs I've been to where I've encountered such kinds of people. Didn't know that Storr paid for the ticket too, but that's another example of the great hospitality and genorosity of the Starcraft community. There is none other, and people who are malicious do not belong (and justly, they were all banned).

Do you have their actual names or pictures? Without that there is no way to enforce that, all you did is make them lose an identity they never really even established in our community.

I'm disgusted I used to consider these guys friends. Very well done by TL to take swift and decisive action against these guys. I have nothing more to add other than I have a mixed feeling of disappointment and shock that people would treat others with so little regard.

I'm not entirely sure what I did to piss semih off, but I hope everyone doesn't think I'm some pissy little ingrate that was being an ass all weekend and trying to cop out of paying for gas. semih asked me directly Saturday night if i could chip in for gas on the way home and i told him i had money for it, so.... I don't know what that part was all about.
Hell, they could have dropped me off in Cleveland or Pittsburgh or Akron and it have been fine if they REALLY didn't want to go out of your way for me (still not really sure what I did to be a dick. I'd actually love to hear it...). I went to school in Cleveland and got friends that live all over the area, family in Akron (where I believe Mack was dropped off), and plenty of friends at UPitt. I could have found my own way home from there. For the record, going to my place would have only added ~ 1.5 hours.
The worst part about this is that storr's parents had to get involved. This isn't something they should have ever had to do or deal with or get involved with in any way. Everyone there was 18+ and should be able to take care of themselves. I wish I had the money on me to pay for my own way home but... yea.. As the oldest of the "kids" there, it really sucked to have to do that. I know I said thank you to storr like 50 times already, but again: Thanks to Storr and his parents for getting me home.

Good decision. I've met a fair amount of people from TL in real life, and it's always been a blast and a privilege to hang out with people as passionate as I am about such an awesome old game, and without a sense of respect and trust some things like OSL/MSL viewing parties we've had (in AA) might not have happened. Keep our standards high!

I just read into what happened, and i must say that i am quite shocked. I can't believe that members of TL would do this to one another. It really sickens me. The fact they show no remorse and justify what they did by saying "Well they were dicks," shows how immature and unprofessional they were. I mean come on, Storr provided so much for these guys, and Dejavu was 400 miles from home. Dejavu and Storr, if you read this, I'm truly sorry for what happened to you guys, and I hope that it all works out, (Especially you Dejavu)

This is meaningless, what does that have to do with anything? If a user has a new IP address and makes a new account there isn't much you can do to track them. I don't see what more can be done apart from "If you see them at LAN events make rude remarks and politely ask them to leave" assuming you remember what three pricks from some random thread on the internet actually looked like.

I was kind of reading the thread as it was happening and I found that I was asking "is this actually happening" and I was getting more and more upset as everything came up. I know I really wanted Semih to be banned from WCG and I hope all websites in the SC community will not allow him or the others to compete in any more tournaments

I believe he was speaking to reference to his school friends and not these guys in question. Storr, I commend you for handling this in a respectable manner. Kudos.
I think if someone drafted a letter and found the appropriate contact information for WCG, I'm sure many would send it and contribute to getting them banned. I would gladly voice my opinion if someone could post the contact information to the appropriate WCG staff.
This type of punishment helps to prevent any future transgressions for the greater good of the community.
I would highly suggest that you all don't "attack" them if they show up to WCG as it would be assault and you'd probably be arrested.
I heard from a valuable source (Loudog) that they did in fact pay 16 bucks total, when they found out the bill was going to be deducted from the winnings. I heard (Loudog/Semih) that they didn't eat at the dinner, so they didn't pay for that. However, Lou's friend did, and Loudog wound up paying his 20 bucks.

See, this is what I heard. I heard that Storr + alcohol don't mix, and alcohol + Dejavu doesn't mix. Now I can't say for certain because what I know is just hearsay, however, I heard that Storr made Loudog, Semih and company feel like unwanted guests, asking repeatedly (their words, remember) if they wanted to sleep outside if they did something Storr didn't like. So, as to not bite the hands that feed, they showed restraint.
Deja apparently bit the hand that fed (via a ride home), and got left in the dust.
This almost made up for me having to stay up from 12-2 just to watch Degrassi. Almost.

Ive been to quite a few TL events IRL in my time, and I've NEVER had a bad experience once. I hope that newcomers dont take this thread as a warning to hosting events but as a warning to douchebags, Fuck up and there will be consequences. TL is not just a tool you can use to get noticed or an item to use to broadcast for your crappy stream. This is where we make friends for years to come. I cant even count how many people I've met on TL threads and events thats I still know and game with to this day.

I agreed to pay for gas (slimpower heard that), i didn't pick on him for anything. When I passed out, it was Mack who went and drew crap on my face and arms. Whatever, i passed out first. Like, I seriously replayed the weekend over and over again in my head on my bus trip and I can't figure this out. Right now, I'm really hating being called a dick for... i dunno what. Deff not siding with semih, but simply making an observation; I couldn't imagine getting a ride from someone and not discussing covering gas and how much would be appropriate before going. And I definitely wouldn't wait till after the trip, as then the whole trip would just feel awkward. I saw in the OP that chill said it was standard to do this transaction after the trip; I'm simply curious if that is actually standard practice as it would feel really awkward to me.

We don't need such people in our community. The reason why I love TL so much is because of the community. All unfamiliar strangers united by a single passion, putting their trust in each other from the start and forging strong friendships, online and offline. It was why I was able to have a fun time out in the first Singapore TL meet up. It was why I was able to have such an awesome and pleasant stay when I went back to Korea this year.

I'm sure most can agree with me when I say I'd completely trust others regarding situations like this for being TL.net members. Definitely sucks that Dejavu had to end up with such dicks though it's good to see punishment handed out and that things worked out for Dejavu in the end.

I've known semih for a long time and he's always been a bm prick online and just judging from my perception of his online persona, I'm not surprised by this at all and I 100% back this, these are inexcusable offenses. Being a prick online is one thing, but carrying that over to real life is ridiculous. (Although I think you should try to be as manner as possible online as well because I feel it is important to keep a good reputation).

I already knew Semih was BM from dealing with him on SC2GG, I even told Suppy before he went who the douchebags were. Ero_Sennin is also BM and is cut from the same cloth as Semih, hence why he is defending him. It would be great if Semih could be blacklisted from the WCG event, kid deserves it.

It was Mack and Buckets who ate and didn't pay. They sat right across from me and being a buffet, they both ate about a plate and left to sit with Semih/Loudog. Then they all left at once and didn't pay, me being a slow eater, was one of the las to leave, and one of the last to pay with 2 people behind me (sorry i don't remember who you were).

i'm a member of another community and when this kind of shit happens we send messages to people related with them (family/gf/friends) through facebook telling them what happened. It really works and I encourage you to do it if you are able to contact someone close to these morons.

Is it cool they left Deja, even if he may or may not have been the best company while at Storr's house? Definitely not, and I'm not saying to unban them by any means. The WCG ban seems a bit far, and hopefully that won't go through, but if it does, another lesson learned.
To summarize, no I'm not sticking up for their actions. I may be sticking up for getting their story told, whether I agree with it or not is irrelevant.

Edited again: So what I gather was, you had to pay 20 bucks to participate in the Tourney. Mack said beforehand he wasn't going to, and there was no big uproar over that. Semih paid to participate, and I don't know if Loudog and Buckets did, although I can't see them playing for free? Because if you don't pay beforehand, why would you be let into the tournament? So I assume they paid that - otherwise, you don't blame them, you blame the organizer.
Afterward you clock out and pay for how much you were on the computer. Did they blow that off on purpose? Yeah. Not the end of the world, but still lame.

As this is pretty diaheartening I just like to contribute that I've been to 4 TL-meetups, all have them have been truly great experiences and please don't let this purest of douchebaggery repel you from ever taking part in one. The steps TL has taken are just and I hope more communities, sites and organizations will follow their example.
Wow.... just wow... I'm surprised such people exist in front of our eyes. Sure I can imagine such people here and there with such bad intentions and hearts but to actually carry the act and commit such crime is inexcusable. I also do feel just a ban doesn't seem enough for these people but I sincerely hope these people grow up, reflect on what they did, and change for the good. From their attitude though, I don't see them doing that anytime soon.
In any case, on a positive note, I am once again enlighten and impressed by the power of this TL Community that I only came to know a year and half ago. I witnessed it myself on NYC Lan but I really do hope our community will become stronger after this mishap and grow together where we can all succeed and prosper! ALL HAIL TEAMLIQUID!

ive only been to one lan, but i had to find my own way completely on the assumption that i had a place to stay at someones house i had never met, and only spoken to a couple of times via pm on tl. i had nowhere to stay other than this place and noway of getting home, yet i was confident cause i trusted that it would work out.
im sure others have been in this situation and this kinda story is scary.
The only thing I have to say is the driver should have been banned.
I Really don't blame the other 3 for leaving because I would no want to be left that far away from home, we all know that the only person who can say anything when carpooling is the driver. If he decides to leave someone behind then he is an asshole and deserves to be banned. The other 3 really deserve something, but not a permanent ban. Really the only thing they deserved to get blamed for is not paying for dinner, which is dick, but not enough for a lifetime ban.
But! This is only my 2 cents and my opinion what happed happed and cannot be changed.

So this was a TL member LAN. Was is more of a "we're going under TL's name" with outside sponsorship? That's what it sounds like but I'm not fully aware. So basically whoever sponsored this even might not see TL the same way? I'd be pissed if I got a ride 400 miles from home and then was left behind. But since I don't know much more than that I can only speculate....
They were the ones who organized the LAN, with hopes of getting sponsored. After it was clear none of them were going to get any prize money they skipped out on paying for the LAN, for the dinner afterwards, and on top of that the organizer-in-chief pocketed $20 from the prize pool. Is this someone you want to be running tournaments in the future? Fuck no.
As for other perspectives, let me give you mine - after the LAN, these kids did NOT look very happy; in fact they were pretty pissed off. If Loudog was REALLY concerned about bus money after getting dropped off, maybe he would have said something along those lines instead of "I don't want to fucking pay $20 to eat shit." If money to get home was really a concern, we would have covered him, end of story.
The money for the LAN center couldn't be squared away at the beginning because that's the way the LAN center works - you pay out when you leave by computer number and name. Semih and Loudog left early, and left the responsibility of paying to someone else; when Semih was asked by duckett AT DINNER he lied about his name; Loudog never even bothered to give his. That little bit of confusion was soon cleared up, and they ended up paying Suppy $8 each, since the LAN was so kind to drop the price off of one. Maybe if he asked for $16 each he would have gotten $16 each.
Quite frankly I think I'd be pretty bummed out if I drove 400 miles out to lose in a tournament of my own organization and spend ~$40 per person, not including gas money and several hours driving. At the same time I don't think I would have chosen such a course of action myself unless I was aware that I could lose, especially since it seemed like they took for granted that they'd win back all their money given how angry they were.
But, this honestly isn't about getting rid of a bunch of angry nerds who wouldn't pay. Nerdrage happens. This is about respect and responsibility, and the fact that actions have consequences. We're not in a position to say their actions were justified/not in their minds, because I'm sure we can sit here and argue about whether or not their actions were justifiable or understandable. We ARE in a position to say what kind of shit doesn't fly around at TL and in the SC community at large.

As someone who runs community events, someone being a douchebag seems to always be a risk even though it hasn't happened at our local events yet. When it does happen, it reflects poorly on the community and, often unfairly, on the reputation of the organizer as well. That's why I'm glad to see the community coming down hard on this sort of thing.
It further sucks that Storr's family had to take the money hit as a result of that, and that certainly justifies the ban, to say nothing of stranding someone. I'm glad to see their actions completed by their consequences.

What's this about a ban from WCG? WCG's long standing policy has been that individuals may only be banned for conduct in WCG events - unless that's changed semih will be allowed to play WCG USA finals for sure.

what if semih murders WCG referee not at WCG event, maybe at the guy's house or something, using a mouse cord to strangle him. but semih uses the $ he earns from scamming communities to buy the judge off so he doesn't get punished. that conduct is outside WCG event but WCG might consider banning him or at least giving him a warning.
