like i said guys, im sorry it kind of went to shit, but i hope you guys understand i couldn't have realy done anything, except maybe if you guys pooled for a plane ticket to irvine i could've punched some of those blizz guys.
I will definitely try to get another event goin, possibly with some help this time, haha. anyways, thanks again to all that showed up, it's you guys that make these events fun and worthwhile.

oo you can try earlier like when beta comes back before release, around late june / early july I bet. just can't wait that long ! haha although then we're prone to have another down b.net during beta D:
maybe we can do an online event... maybe just a friendly tournament or something
As much fun as I had at the last LAN, I'd have to pass on a BYOC LAN unless it was really long (like overnight). My setup is pretty non-portable, and really it wouldn't be worth unhooking just to play SC2 for a few hours (not to mention the drive to SF is much worse than the drive to Sunnyvale).
That aside, I'd love to do it at Euphnet again, or just about any LAN center. I just don't really want to drag my big ass tower & monitor around.
As for Kino's comments about doing it sooner, I feel you on the "that was fun let's do it again soon!" thought, but I think Moony's absolutely right putting it off until release. We don't even know when beta will start again (and even if we did, plans could change). Setting it up for post-release let's us plan on a date that we know it'll be up and working, not to mention avoid the catastrophe that was Bnet2 last week.
@ Z-roe it won't be overnight. If you can't come you can't come but we can't accomodate that number of people at euphnet. it would be way too crowded not to mention not enough computers.
but we will be doing events at euphnet from time to time so you can come to those

estimated time during the day ? and where in SF ? We can set up hella early and then just carry it on til late afternoon / nighttime. Besides, there are plenty of SF nightlife to enjoy wink wink
@kino well this next one is going to be at euph and we're not too sure about the venue atm..
On May 28 2010 07:40 Moony wrote: maybe we can do an online event... maybe just a friendly tournament or something +1 !!!! You already know Im down for that
Depending on interest, we *could* do overnight for the SF BYOC - previous LANs have done it before, so it is possible though it would raise the price. Really just all depends on interest... hence the poll.
(I'm helping Moony coordinate the possible SF BYOC)

Dude... go to arizona and don't come back!
Lol this is arlock right? If not sorry haha
EDIT: Yeah go to Arizona!!
@ excalibur hey i understand what you're saying but can't really have a tentative sorry. there are venue fees to think about
@HD lol
@arlock yeah seriously why aren't you there already? lol
I will of course be there again :D
EDIT double post, delete me.
that one week after the release, theres going to be tons of bugs and patches.I have a bad feeling, that history will once again repeat itself.
you guys should make it at euphnet again, I actually have some time remaining from a few years ago haha
Yeah there's usually a patch RIGHT when you get the game to fix a bunch of non-balance related technical stuff. And because this is going to be such a huge release, I wouldn't be surprise if something craps out within the first week on Blizzard's end. Also give people enough time to beat the campaign before getting too devoted into becoming competitive in multiplayer =D.
@blabber - the 31st LAN party Moony is talking about would be at euphnet again.
We're looking at having a larger BYOC to support more people a couple months after release. Sorry for the confusion.
depending on what happens we MIGHT post pone the next lan party by a week just to make sure there aren't any hiccups in the battle.net system. because it's so great right? amirite? lol
woot ill be back from college
you should come then jiYan!
changed the date of the lan party to 1 week later because of inevitable battle.net 2.0 failures
nvm read post.if we byoc does that mean we dont have to pay for the internetz?
Is it possible to attend just to hang out and be a spectator? I'm not really that great at SC2 and my computer really isn't good enough to be competitive but I still enjoy the game and watching it. Maybe an entrance fee or something would be fine as well.
@ waffles the next lan party is not byoc
@ mallard yeah you can spectate

can the tournament be double elimination? that way if people get knocked out at the beginning of the LAN people can have a little more playtime fun?
I'm down again. Mr Comeback better....come, back.
lol I made a funny.
I'd be down to do this, I work in downtown SF two days a week from Sac. Is this taking place in the San Jose area or SF area?
@ epsilon this will be in the sunnyvale area which is close to san jose.
bugs and patches? Psssh this is Blizzard c'mon!

Oh and I'm hella down for this

2 weeks before I go back to the bay from DC lol

UPDATE!!
ALIENWARE has been confirmed as our sponsor!! Visit out site www.bayareastarcraft.com for updates. i will however be updating this thread as well.
so the OP "What" says there will be BW. Will there also be a BW tourney+prizes?
Alienware is only supporting our SC2 Tournament so no.
However, if the people playing in the BW tourney want to pool money together to create a prize pool that would be okay
update.
monster is supporting as well.
Euphnet for sure. Everyone who went the first time is familiar with the venue and what to expect. I really don't see any added benefit of making it BYOC or changing the venue. As for the maps.... Using only the BW remakes shouldn't even be a poll question, they are completely un-tested in competitive play and from what I have seen are extremely imbalanced. That said I don't see any issue with use the better Blizzard maps and throwing a few of the BW remakes into the earlier rounds of the tournament.
Wish I could attend. Looking for a ride down from the stockton area. Pm me if anyone going through

Is it possible to BYOC to Euphnet ? I noticed some of the computers on the right side perform much better than the ones in the room / to the left.
Ah dang. This one is gonna be so much bigger than the last. Too bad I won't be able to make it D:
parents were planning a vacation to sf im so gonna be there to compete.
PainUser sums up my thoughts on both the venue & BW maps perfectly. Nothing to add there.
Great to hear about the two sponsors, that's fantastic.
If you need any non-art help with the website, I'd be glad to do any thing I can (pretty much any thing with PHP/MySQL/layout/etc).
@dean lol that sucks.
@silent12ill sounds cool. just make sure to sign up!
@z-r0e hey if you wanna help out with the website just shoot me an email
The only issue with Euphnet is the size (and # of computers present) limits the size of a tournaments/LANs we can hold in the future. With a BYOC we can theoretically support many, many, more people which means bigger sponsors, bigger prize pool, etc.
The next LAN is still being held at Euphnet, we're just exploring options for the future.
pretty much chausara said in response to painuser. he's helping me with all future lan parties.
as for the maps. might do what you suggested taylor.

It wasn't working for a few hours there, but the alienarena is working fine now,
Hey Moony, should we pay the 20$ to alien arena or bring cash to the lan?
and personally i think we should just use famaliar sc2 maps, i never played much sc1 (more wc3 than anything) but if we do use BW maps I can manage if everyone else wants to use them
i feel like if this is going to be a big event it should be double elimination.. its going to have so much hype then to get knocked out in the first rounds going to suck for whoever has to play vs me.
(jk but seriously whoever loses rnd1 will be T_T but at least double elimination you cant QQ so bad about facing a good opponent)
signed up. do we have to pay on the site or can we pay in person? if we do have to pay on the site, whats the deadline for that?
So, anyone driving down from SF? I'll chip in for gas and whatnot obviously, hit me up if you can give me a lift. Otherwise I can't go haha.
do we get anything besides a tournament entry with the $20? Like a t-shirt or food or something?
Yeah agreed, a tournament without any type of seeding needs double elimination imo

@jiyan no there will not be double elim just like i said awhile ago when you asked he first time.
@blabbe there may be some swag. we're just not sure yet of what the sponsors will send as of yet.
@azul you pay on the alienware website
cool thanks azul!

I'd like to go, but ehh. Maybe next year when I'll be in college xD

So will there be sc1 stuff?
there may be sc1 stuff not too sure. but it won't be sponsored.
can i pay at the event? i registered on the site but id rather pay in person when i get there. also whens the earliest we can get there, im trying to get my moneys worth
p.s. oh and can i bring my own lappy im just comfortable on it or do i gotta use theirs.
@jiyan sorry you can't pay at the event. it's alienware's rule not mine. they just want it so that it's more organized. you can get there as early as you want. i'll probably be there early as well.
do you have a time that itll be okay to go? and how will the euphnet know if we paid or not jw
I'll be able to pay at the end of July when I have some more money o_O
just wanna congrat moony for making this lan so sucessful!!
@scyper haha thanks man
@blabber for sure that works too
@jiyan the payment goes directly to euphnet. that's their paypal address you're paying to
Being able to be eliminated with one loss in a tournament isn't much of a tournament.
We can't do a double elim tourney because of the time restraints. however we may be able to starting the round of 16 or so.
We should start a Bay Area practice partner list!
Add me! Kronos.796
if you want theshin we can start one up and do something
any way to tell how many ppl signed up so far? jw
what up Moony, really like this thread and this event you've got going on really really great stuff. i'm interested in this event and the SF one as the SF one would be closer to me but i still wanna make the trip to euphnet to check out this event. I also checked out the website nice stuff keep it up
Damn it, i'm out of town until the 17th of August so if it gets pushed back i'll be there for sure. I live in San Francisco and need to meet some local nerds. I know it's early to tell but when would the next one be?
Not sure when the next one will be but we may have to push the event back another week just because of conflicting events for some of the participants
Well since everyone here is bay area residents we should get a super bay area crew going :O, ok maybe not but feel free to add me azulseca.124
sounds cool azul.
sign up people!
have a bay area sc2 clan? :DD
btw just my opinion if we're expanding the prize pool, depending on how many people come, 5-8th prizes would be tight.
Maybe for the clan.
and no.
haha he probably wouldn't care, but in that choice i'd definitely be going to my own lan o.o
lol so many lan parties! haha. idk maybe i'll just push it back even more. considering not that many people have signed up yet...
to the people who already signed up: would changing the date affect you? for me im find until early september when i go back to school
If we do push it back the most likely date will be the 28th of august
exactly how many people in socal are willing to drive 6 hours to get up here
hey moony jw but would it affect the sponsors at all if we change date?

I am totally interested!
Let's get the bay area scene pumped for the Sc2 competitive scene!

whats wrong with euphnet?

so the date is absolutely set for September 4th? Do you mind changing all the various dates you have around to sept 4th (like the OP, the basc website, the alienware website) to avoid confusion
also, which other LANs are you talking about that are in the bay area? I would like to see if I can go to them

Anyone want to give me a ride, Danville/Walnut Creek Area? What time should we show up for the tourney? So we can pay once we get there?

Euphnet is in a plaza, so there's space for around 20 cars. Around that area are other plaza parking lots too so if you don't mind walking across the street and stuff I think there's places around the area / corner. It's not THAT bad, but I'd get there early ! Too bad this has been pushed back so much now I can no longer make it have fun guys~
thanks for the info lovedrop, also does anyone know approx when this will end / how long the tournament will last?
how does the computer equipment work? can we use our own mouse and keyboard?
Anyone willing to give a ride from Danville area? We can split gas cost! If you're on the way, I can drive to you and park and then we can carpool too.
On September 03 2010 10:56 blabber wrote: how does the computer equipment work? can we use our own mouse and keyboard?
Yes you can bring your own mouse/keyboard/headset if you like, however PLEASE keep a close eye on your gear, There was at least one person with sticky fingers at the last event. I strongly recommend marking your gear some where (scratch a name into it or something) because you very well might find many people have brought the same model keyboard/mouse that you have.
On September 03 2010 09:58 JiYan wrote: thanks for the info lovedrop, also does anyone know approx when this will end / how long the tournament will last?
I believe euphnet is reserved from 10am till around 5/6/7pm, The tournament will likely be running for the entire time.

By the way if we do find out who did that, or if we discover any one else attempting to steal, you will be dragged out into the parking lot and beaten.
