A QQ about QQ's and dem darn kids of today.
I've been playing games as a hobby for a long time now, and enjoy sinking my teeth into something challenging and I like a lot of multiplayer (though starcraft was too much for me). I actually design games in a 20 man company now, i mean, games for IOs and Android but still.
I have never ever heard the term "tryhard" or its like before. I mean, back in the good old days you would call someone "cheap' for picking Eddy in Tekken or you would cry about "cheese" when you got swept a hundred times in a row in street fighter.
Cheap and cheese were definitely words we used when we were getting our ass handed to us but our teeny tiny egos couldn't handle it. They were QQ words. But at least they tried to obscure the issue. At least we weren't admitting our opponents outperformed us, and were defiantly clinging on to the fantasy that they abused some broken mechanic in the game.
Tryhard is just the latest and frankly dumbest of these terms. Tryhard doesn't even pretend that you didn't get outplayed, merely that you weren't "trying as hard as the other guy". Why didn't you try as hard to win as the other guy, little Timmy? "Because I wanted to have FUN".
These are the kind of ****ing kids who couldn't hack it in any sport and so they played Calvinball, saying sports were for dumb jocks. The kind who can't stand the idea of actually having to put in effort in a hobby, to enjoy the struggle of getting better, to be fascinated by the new depth that comes from sports and games the better you get at them.
Why would people play Dota like it was a JRPG where victory, with enough grinding at whatever pace you like, is guaranteed? Some people are just not very good in a competitive environment. That's fine. But don't try and disguise your obvious failings by saying it was the opponents fault for...trying too hard to win? WTF?
Team comp is decent? Tryhard. Wards up by the rune spots in the beginning? Tryhard. Stacking camps before pulling? Tryhard smurf pro.
They don't understand the basics of the game, and yet feel like they're entitled to a sporting chance to win. And I'm very new to Dota and MOBA's so I'm not coming from any elitist perspective.
Honestly, reminds me of the time when my brother would scream at me for constantly throwing him in fighting games. But he was like 10 at the time.

The outcome is always the same. Dumbass spends 10 minutes walking around the river and occasionally firing arrows from max range with no setup. Every single one misses, of course, because arrow travels slow and is easy to see coming. Then an enemy support comes to duel her or contest her for a rune, and she jumps over a cliff. End result: 0/0/0 mirana, level 3 when sidelanes are 6. Fuck

It's not just annoying for the team you're on, it's annoying for other team as well. Random mirana roaming and taking your runes, and occasionally landing silly arrows that serve to make your early game a nightmare. Most of the time come mid game, the other team dies anyways whether the mirana was successful or not for simply having a hero that's very far behind in items and levels.

Some guy picks Nyx, and says that he goes mid, then i took a carry. After that, he says that he is going bot with his friend? WTF? 1 min after, they both speak russian. And nom i'm forced to go solo in hardlane, because we had a jungler, FML

Fighting against a team that has bought 3 shadow blades and has BH, I play a 5 position wind running with just mek, brown boot and all the wards. I tell the team "I am going to get gem. Next fight I am just going to say alive, throw a shackle and kill one of them. We are going to go after witchdoctor because he has not escapes."
The fight breaks out. Everyone runs in a different direciton saying "I need vision, I need vision." Witch doctor lives, I get picked off by sniper as everyone runs.
What part of the plan was unclear.

For some reason the tinker on my team refused to blink into trees when he was split pushing, despite me and another team mate explaining to him how to do it for about 40 minutes of the very long game. This was against a na and sa to make things worse and of course he didn't get soul ring so he couldn't efficiently march spam to help us defend our base. He ended up dying and throwing the game after about 70 minutes of tedious turtle. I really don't fucking understand it, he spoke english and everything and we didn't flame him one bit. We explained shift queuing and how it would stop him from dying, but instead he decides to waste 70 minutes of my life.

Me (pa) and tree vs omni and weaver. Lane is going well as i am getting farm and weaver got baited a few times and died. The overall score is 5-4 when pugna and ta start bitching at tree for not healing. Admittedly i didn't see a whole lot of heals going out of our lane, but the weaver was very aggressive, so it's not as if there were no heals being used. Tree starts arguing with them, and mentally shuts down. Doesn't heal anyone else for the rest of the game, doesn't heal towers. I went 16-6, and BH went 18-6, but we couldn't stop the push of dp+ss because tree didn't heal the towers after we killed them.

I really need to get good at mid, so that lane isn't completely lost every game. At this point I give up on the game once someone calls a fast mid, because they get stomped every. Single. Time.

Ok, I'll bite. Dota's a team game where coordination and hero drafts make a huge difference. People who play in stacks of 4-5 and pick "tryhard heroes" have an inherent advantage over those who don't.
The problem is people who solo queue or play in groups of 2 generally don't have the luxury of being able to tryhard even if they desired. Consider the frequency of people who random, pick whatever hero they want without any consideration to the rest of the team, speak Spanish / Russian / Portuguese on the US server, don't have a mic, just don't want to bother communicating, etc. In all pick this is the norm rather than the exception, and it makes it nearly impossible to beat "tryhard" stacks as a solo queuer.
I don't have a problem with people who deward or smoke gank. However when a 5 stack entered all pick and insta locked bat mid, prophet offlane, keeper / PL / nyx tri lane before the patch it was pretty annoying. The sentiment a lot of people have is that all pick should be more chill, and stacks who want to play more competitively should queue up on captain's mode or use team match making. The introduction of solo queue fixed the problem a bit, but from my experience solo queue has the opposite problem where everyone does retarded things because fuck it.
I also think you're exaggerating the argument. I've been playing for almost a year and I've literally never heard anyone call me a try hard for pulling a double camp or warding.

I have to say, rubick bloodstone is pretty high on the list of things that fill me with sadness. Even worse is "rubick has bloodstone and also arcanes", and double worse is "rubick has all of bloodstone except mana point giver thingy and he's not disassembling his arcanes"
