Played this in the wee hours of the night last night. All random, get Jakiro, cool. I'll play support. Get courier, work on mek, etc. Naga comes up and lanes with me, she is godawful. Dunno, maybe he's never played her before. Opponents are auto-attacking constantly. I get first blood pretty easy.
Game keeps going, my team and their team playing badly overall, but I'm doing very well. My last game of the night, so I think, what the hell, and start building tanky items. Culminates in me being 8-0-18 on Jakiro with Linkins/Heart/Mek/Arcane and ALMOST finished my Rapier.
I feel pretty balling like I just played the best Jakiro that's ever been played. Then when the game is over I check my opponents levels... I have over 700 games under my belt. My opponents have... 4... 16... 30... my teammates are pretty similar in levels.
They were all newbies. One of them still had a courier in their inventory at the end of the game. One of them only had sentry wards in their inventory at the end of the game (40+ min).  I like winning but I actually felt pretty bad about it afterwards. Weird matchmaking.

was it solo q or regular matchmaking?
I am a trashbag but when I use solo q I get matched with players I see on prostreams and players with single digit wins in the same game.

Regular matchmaking. All Random.
One of the players on their team (Meepo) was actually similar in level to me, so I guess the game thought we off-set each other. Everyone else was pretty low leveled.

Midas invoker isn't uncommon, since as he said invoker is DESPERATE for levels and midas is essentially the simplest way to guarantee yourself extra XP.
You can certainly argue that some more combat-efficient items (say, drums for the same price) may lead to a stronger midgame which would accelerate your levels more but that isn't as reliable as a simple midas.
The travels are questionable I guess but they do again get him to experience faster.
PS: Thoughts on the experience changes being a nerf to invoker (since everybody else hits their "key" level 11 super-fast whereas there was a nerf to the speed invoker can hit 12 aka invoke lvl 3?)

Invoker is capable of snowballing hard if he plays good in the midgame. Midas only delays that and pushes you further into the lategame instead. Ridiculously high magic ress at low hp and if he buys ghost scepter which costs like nothing, he can still use his burning spear AND ulti without being able to take physical damage. With enough stuns and disables you can kill him, but it's still completely retarded. Me, my brother and three randoms outplayed our opponents early/mid game but because of Silencer and this ridiculously strong Huskar, we couldn't do shit. We tried to finish early but it was hard against a team consisting of Nature's Prophet, AA, Undying (and Sile + Husk).

Invoker is a more level dependant hero than item dependant, midas gives you a big XP boost that can allow you to snowball pretty hard. It's not the most common build and probally not the best one, but not really QQ worthy tbh. It's pretty decent and can be fun.

idk this build sounds pretty legit if he got the Midas fast enough (which I'm guessing he didn't). BKB depends on how often you teamfought and the other lineup of course, but all those items are good on Invoker. One possible change is just delay the Travels for a faster Force/Euls/Blink.
Invoker really needs the levels. He REALLY needs the levels.

Dota makes me laugh sometimes. I feel like only a very small percent of players actually back up or play safe when mid is called miss. Every time I play mid I hardly never not call mia, and people still die every time. This is why I laugh when people get mad when mids don't call it, becuase I am like I highly doubt it would have mattered.

Oh it gets worse. Went woods with furion just now. Should have bought wards since no one else did, but didn't think much about it. Got ganked by a leshrac SD combo for first blood 30 seconds into the game. Then they run straight to the bot lane, who at this point are almost hugging the enemy tower, and kill both of those as well. HOW DO YOU NOT NOTICE THAT THERE ARE PEOPLE IN YOUR FOREST WHO JUST GANKED YOUR TEAMMATE?!
edit: Come to think of it, someone else did buy wards so I couldn't. If you're going to only let us buy one set of wards in the early game, at least let us split them up so we can place them where we want without having someone to travel through the entire map to do it.

No bias as I don't play invoker, but it's a no though they still have a good ranking in this. I'd say top 1 is random support repick into jungle naix are the worst. Second is straight pick jungler naix/SK. Last pick pudge calling mid when we already have a mid are 3rd.

Every time I hear mid is missing, my carry says "ok, after this wave I'll back up" while I am hiding behind my turret waiting for him to die.
