Today as I was queueing up I decided "I play support pretty often, and I really wish I could learn how to play a carry" so I decided to pick anti-mage seeing as hes a pretty quintessential carry hero with whom I should be able to learn how to farm and such.
Now I know that sometimes its hard to get a good team comp so I pick him before anyone else makes their picks so that hopefully we can get some heroes to work around that. Next 2 picks are CK and slark shortly after, not ideal but hey this isn't exactly TI3 here. The next 2 guys are waffling so I mention that we could use a support of some sort and a mid hero (I don't think slark wanted to mid). They wait until the creeps spawn then pick weaver and lifestealer -_-
I get that its AP and people should be able to play what they want but I'm never going to learn to play anything else if the only time there will be a support in my games is if I play it. I ended up laning with CK and farmed myself a 20+ minute battlefury as well as a 46 minute manta. We managed to win anyway because our CK was pretty smart and after getting manta and vlads I actually kind of came online against their heavy int lineup. However it really wasn't that enjoyable of a game since it was really hard for me to ever play AM like he's supposed to be played.
Oh well, back to position 5 Brotip: Play captains mode But yeah I see your frustration I would, but the only people that I know that play CM successfully are significantly higher level than myself. I mean like people at my level of play are generally not capable of even doing stuff like trilaning (not trying to criticize, its just where I'm at) so I feel like the drafts wouldn't be that great.
Try random draft perhaps? I like it a lot (I basically only queue RD and sometimes SD these days) since it seems like people tend to pick slightly more balanced lineups.
Of course you'll end up picking last sometimes, but other times you'll be able to pick early so I find it tends to give a nice rotation of roles.

So some time ago I was muted and had a game were I ended up going mid as Silencer against Elter Titan (must've been roughly a week after ET was out).
Well, I do quite well until like lvl 3-4 when he got his bottle (their team also did have runes warded) and for the first time ever I was about to watch helplessly as the guy keeps spamming his ancient spirit image nuke. As a lvl 3-5 silencer or so I obvious rather lack the potential to just kill ET outright so I was forced to just... stand rather far back at the tower and not get constantly hit by his nuke. Oh wait, that's not actually possible because the range that thing can walk turned out to be much farther than I expected. So every 16s I got hit by an unavoidable nuke and my situation just got worse and worse. I also ended up dying once or twice, I just couldn't do shit.
Now the great thing about being muted is that you cannot do much other than going "help". Well my team didn't help me though so yeah. Worse, as expected at some point 2-3 guys in my team then went "oh god Silencer losing lane against ET MID?? what a fucking noob GG" and that stuff. I had this huge urge to explain why I was in such troubles, but of course I was unable to.
So a rather annoying Silencer vs. ET mid match up for me got just that much more frustrating due to being chat banned. Not being able to explain oneself can be the worst :/
I'm not saying ET is OP or so btw, just with Silencer I couldn't do much. I skilled his Glaive attack and the third ability and did well until the dude got a bottle and started his ability spam (which also made it then much easier to last hit everything due to me having to be especially careful and him getting more damage with it too).
To be fair, if I had known how much of an issue that ability would become I would've gotten a bottle of my own (which I usually wouldn't do on Silencer) and could've done much better against that. But hindsight I guess :|

To be fair on your team, I would probably have a similar reaction. Silencer is a pretty dominant mid hero. ET ancestral costs near half his mana pool, while you can almost spam your abilities without fearing mana loss at all. You should have bottled, true, but even then you shouldn't have let him get so many runes (which I suspect is the reason why he could keep spamming such a mana heavy ability on you).

Wtf... I play lone druid hard lane and dominate them (end up 4-0 after the laning stage), but their nyx get solo kill everywhere. I get a gem and ask my team to push with me but they refuse for 30 min while they keep getting picked off. We had radiance on bloodseeker and i had armlet maelstrom, but no better stay in woods and get picked off my storm/nyx with dagon... IM SO MAD i litteraly ran around begging my teamates to come with me and they just kept dying and insulting each other.

So, I played a game as lycan with a treeant. Before the game started I explained to him that if he could throw a few heals my way that'd make jungling considerably easier and my faster vlads and 6 would have a knock on effect. He confirmed it seemed like a good idea and devoted himself to the cause, along with healing others and generally being a good support. I get a 7 minute vlads and 6 at which point I leave jungle to come down onto his lane and immediately get a double kill from us both using our ult, him to disable and me to wolf mode. 30 seconds later we've torn down a tower, a minute after that rosh is dead, 6 minutes after that every one of their external towers is dead and I have 14 kills.
Treeant says "I support you lycan ))))"

That happens too. It happens enough that such an incredibly pleasant experience that worked out just perfectly is notable. I'll balance it out though. I also had a teammate yesterday who, while we were doing rosh, filled up my inventory with trash like tangos so I couldn't grab the aegis (I was our hard carry and 8 levels ahead of the support in question) to guarantee that he got it.

Now thats more like it.
In all seriousness though, how did he have enough stuff like tangoes to fill up you inventory by the time you were taking rosh and 8 levels ahead? I mean occasionally I've found myself with one extra tango because its against my nature to sell things but having more than one even would be hard.

Ehh, according to this http://www.dota2wiki.com/wiki/Elder_Titan ET has 299 mana at lvl 1 without any items so by lvl 3 already it costs rather 1/3rd, as the ability costs 110 mana. And I cannot see you withstand that being constantly spammed without a bottle of your own and most likely bottle crowing. Again, in that game I did not have warded runespots and even if that was the case, so did ET. And there's nothing about Silencer that allows me to grab runes easily. He has 300ms, ET has 315. Even if I go to the spawned rune earlier than him he can just use his Ancestral Spirit and stomp me on top of it, not only giving him time to get the rune before me but also to leave me super vulnerable (it's not like I wake up and can then fight back).
As Silencer you also have low 473 starting hitpoints, so his nuke hits rather hard.
So despite being capable of doing better I simply cannot call Silencer dominant mid against an ET. It's not like I can completely devastate him somehow from lvl 1-3. And again, it is not possible to avoid his nuke, it just isn't. It has no projectile speed that allows me to avoid that ability easily in the first place and he can just run me down anyways, far out of XP range of course. He then gains a lot of damage to make lasthitting (or damaging me, let's not forget he still has more MS and can stomp (which also means I have to be really careful and not just take the spirit damage and stand in the middle of it), then run up to me and hit me fore ~100 damage.

Often I actually pick up the stout shield or whatever it is that they've dropped so I can give it back to them later. really ingratiates me to our carries
|
I always do that as well, if I have enough space I usually always pick up the items that get dropped for the aegis. For example I just finished a game as Lone Druid where I picked up my teammates bottle that he dropped for aegis ^^ . If you have space you might as well pick the item up and put it on the courier/fountain.

I remember in HoN, the americans ALWAYS used their mic to communicate, where as the euros only had a few whiners on mic. Seems to be similar in Dota 2, at least from my limited experience and the streams I've watched... on the US server, there's people on the mic always, it's extremely rare on EU for anyone to use the mic and if they do, it's usually not positive. I haven't played on EU servers so I can't compare US to EU mic use, but I quite often play games with people who have mics on USE.

The thing with a non-Bottle Crow hero vs. a Bottle Crow hero is that you HAVE to punish him before Bottle. He needs 3 lasthits to get his Bottle by 1:30. He's guaranteed 2 of them with his nuke, just like any Bottle-Crow hero, but you have to make him WORK for that last one. Don't let him have it. If he tries to walk up and get the lasthit, play tricks with creep aggro to fuck him up, and play aggressively. Abuse his pre-Bottle timing to force damage on him in situations where he doesn't want to fight. You can't keep him down once he gets that Bottle, so you have to go to hell and back to win the lane before then.
This is not stable in competitive games because of how roaming supports will punish a mid laner who's that aggressive with smoke ganks. Hence why Bottle-Crow stalemates happen in competitive games, because the lengths you need to go to in order to punish a Bottle entails too much risk against competent supports. But in pubs, supports don't even leave their lanes half the time, so it's perfectly possible to punish a Bottle-Crow hero this way.

I really hate it when those Windrunner players who do not give a shit about positioning and just spam shackle on cooldown accidentally get a two hero shackle (like latching you to someone who randomly walked or even blinked into the latch area, and there is clearly no way that could have been intentional) which then decides a teamfight.

How come every time someone calls mid they feed super hard.
|
I just played single draft and my choices were: Nature's Prophet, Naga Siren, and Skeleton King. They rest of my team has at least 3-4 supports they COULD choose, but of course they don't. My thinking is just to go jungle with NP and hope I can outfarm my opponents. Luckily, someone on the other team DCed. I actually enjoy playing supports when I can, and I have never understood the obsession with going 5 carries. The guy on my team told me that "OD and Spectre aren't carries early game anyways." They are farm dependent in the late game so if you can't get farm early, isn't that argument just bad?
