BUT THEN in the last 7 of these 9 times (played in the last 3 days) our team was left 4v5 or 3v5 after 10-15 minutes by idiots who ragequit either after their first death or after feeding like hell... One game we could have won, even 3v5, but we just had a bad engagement once and it all went to shit. After a couple of these games, some mannered opponents actually apologized to me for winning like this, saying they felt sorry about it....it's just sad.
Now seriously, what the fuck, Valve?! Harsher punitive measures need to be taken against leavers - such shit never happened to me in years of playing Dota 1 on Garena, for example.
I understand that some people have poor connections and may disc unintentionally - but I really miss having rooms with harsh rules enforced against leavers or rooms with a minimum level requirement (for people who actually WANT to play well balanced games).
I've had a 13-game losing streak. Just find people to stack with if you're getting shafted by solo queue.
Dude, it's not the losing streak I'm mainly worried about but the disgusting way in which I've had these losses. I wouldn't mind losing 30 good games in a row if it ever came to that.
My main points are:
- proven leavers or intentional feeders should be severely punished in order to minimize their negative influence in the community.
- Restricted rooms should be introduced for players who have reached at least a certain level/WL ratio/no. of games/no. of commendations. These rooms should have a strict set of rules in order to ensure that decent games are played inside/between them.

I definitely agree that valve needs to implement a better lobby system (more similar to the old wc3 bnet public games system, or the HoN public games system).

How would those restricted rooms be administrated/moderated/controlled? WL ratio doesn't mean anything at all, player level doesn't influence whether the person is a nice person to play with or a total dick, commendations are easily traded, number of games also means nothing at all.

I played with someone with over 40 commends and he called our team trash before creeps even left the base :/ .

I think there are enough players (myself included) who would rather play Dota with/against total dicks who are at least decent at the game instead of playing with nice or silent feeders.
Ok, the WL ratio and number of games are mostly irrelevant, I'll give you that. I was just throwing it out there for debate.
First of all, I feel that an ELO system could do much for Dota (Coefficient calculated based on wins/losses, relative opponent strength and own team strength.) I think we can agree that this system has enough utility to provide a decent estimate of individual skill. Access to the restricted rooms would be based on the ELO rating, of course, not on the current strictly additive Battle Points system - once you reach a certain rating, you receive automatic access to a higher tier room. Should you drop below a certain threshold, your access will be removed and you'll be demoted to a lower tier. The restricted rooms are, of course, optional - public matchmaking should be available to everyone.
Regarding moderation - Valve administrators can moderate these rooms/ analyze complaints or reports and kick players who break the rules (extreme chat abuse, feeding, leaving intentionally etc.)

Er, your description of an ELO system is exactly what Dota 2's hidden MMR system is.
|
Had a game where my team decided to run the ole AA, Kunkka, Rubick tri lane mid. It didn't end well
|
Then the hidden MMR is failing horribly with its formulas somehow - I'll give you an example:
After 6 straight losses, Dota 2 feeds me this:
- 4 other guys that farm around 40-50 creeps at most in 30 minutes, 1 of them leaves after ~20 mins with 0/7/0. Out of these 4 guys, 3 pick carries.
Against what? Against an AM who has ~200 creeps after 30 minutes, a QoP with ~140 cs at the same mark etc. A pretty good team overall, what can I say?
The issue arises here: each of my teammates had less than 40 games played. None of them had a win rate above 50%, while 3 guys in the opposing team had more than 50 games played, with win rates hovering around 55%-60%. My own win rate at the time was ~53%.
So is this a matchmaking fail or what?! I cannot explain this... Valve denies aiming the matchmaking algorithm towards giving everyone a 50% win rate (what Blizz is doing in SC2, as anyone here knows), so what was going on in that game? How was it possible to get 4 teammates that are worse than myself against 5 opponents who are probably above my skill level?

Started the day with 5 wins in a row.
Game 6: (long lane) playing WD with a CK vs solo Batrider (short). After 2 minutes CK proceeds to go to our short lane where our 3 guys feed their (long lane) 2 guys - they had a jungler. 9 deaths in 9 minutes vs 1 death I think. They proceed to overwhelm us at 12 minutes with tripple blink daggers on Batrider, Enigma, Sand King.
Game 7: (short lane) playing DK with a WD vs solo Mirana, their short lane is a trilane with Alch. Farming is the only thing I could do, but WD has other "autoattacking" plans. Long story short, we had 2 buffoons who could not stand free farming Alch and fed him around 7 kills in 7 minutes. Welp...
Game 8: this is where matchmaking shines. (long lane) playing Pudge against a Luna/Apparition/Disruptor trilane (they were a stack of 5). Not a single chance. Get dewarded instantly, get pressured, we dont give up kills, but nothing happens bottom in a 2v1 situation. I dont think we ever had a second where we gained more xp or gold than they did. Gruesome experience. They were shadowblading everywhere, we had invi heroes (and like I said I was playing Pudge), but they had eyes almost everywhere. Try to gank, get taunted with courier, Luna pounces with ult so on and so forth, smack talk "you are bad, ez game" fuck this shit. Duration: 42:32, should have been over at minute 15, but there is nothing wrong in dissing your opponents I guess [...] From what I see, we only had a single 2 man group.
Honestly, this game gets 3rd spot in the "I cant do anything to win" category. First spots are EA's FIFA/NHL titles where you have those "lets hit the post 20 times" or "99 goalie cant defend against 30 metre shot from 60 overall player" situations. Need to score 4 goals with Kovalchuk? Sorry, he can do max 3.

I wish I could understand your analogies at the end because they sound pretty good.

I can't wait until this "Omg Medusa new hero I should play her!!" fad fades away. Still getting lots of dusa pickers most games, and they always end up on my team.. And are always 100% worthless throughout all stages of the game.

She really needs farm early-mid game in order to be any good in late and is absolutely useless without at least 2 big items... Definitely not a pub-friendly hero - the team needs to protect her and get her kills when possible. That's never gonna happen in your average pub. Even with a good team - if the medusa player can't last hit well or skill her properly he will be worthless come late game.
However, in the hands of good farmer, this hero is godly in the late game. With proper items, she can both tank and bring down an entire team.

Just had a game that made me want to cry, like the epitome of proof that matchmaking is just borked beyond meassure. Queuing as 4 stack, meet what i guess is a 5 stack and just... the tryhardness and skilldifference... we had two not so good on our team, me whos avg and a guy whos pretty decent(all friends or loosely friends). And just... wards everywhere, i end the game with 20 lasthits, my lanepartner 22. We are owned from the second the game starts and loose like 30 - 9 by the 30min mark. Just a waste of everyones time playing this game, it was like fnatic went pubstomping as a 5 stack playing their most serious game or something, that high of a difference.
|
just had a good game with ancient apparition, but then "disconnected from server, connection timed out". now i can not reconnect.
|
Playing along then msg appears -my username- has abandoned the game, its now safe to leave. Everyone is like WTF... I didnt even go afk or disconnect or anything. GJ Valve.
|
Just do medusa ancient jungling. Most likely they are too busy pwning one of the lanes that they wont come and bother you.
Easily threads and perseverance before 10 and getting linkens soon. One lane suffer into late game medu rape. But still dependant on the person having some semblance of last hitting skills later too.

Was gonna QQ about Drow, but the last 10 pages seem to do the justice. Fuck SF and SB.

Lost 2 games vs meeepo in row. Meepo OP. EDIT: Make it 3. I'm actually not joking.

I hate people who use the word "tryhard" as an attempt to hide the fact that they are atrocious.
