I'm fine with saying the goat should continue being the goat, but how much is he the goat is the ultimate question, and so having to deal with balance will affect your perceived goatness.
And I agree that we shouldn't look at every tournament for the sake of looking into the balance of that particular tournament individually.
But format plays a big role in how well races perform. For instance you can historically say that protoss has not benefitted from big boSeries and rematches, so double lives. Sos while he won 3x 100k first places with 1 year apart proving consistency, I don't think it would've turned out the same with losers bracket, or by the same token if it had gsl style groups where you can win vs. a player and later play him again.
These tournaments that have double lives probably favour the grindy ladder player more, because there're also more matches. So, the tournaments leenock wins are different from the ones MVP wins. But all this should be very hard to qualify and while protoss used to do worse in gsl, now it might've changed so that protoss is now favoured by this, because protoss is played differently now.
