Well, he left Psistorm because they couldn't afford his salary anymore (or rather couldn't "pay him the salary he deserves" in their own words), so I guess no one wanted or could pay that kind of money?

To date, GuMiho is the only player to achieve an all-kill in the Global StarCraft II Team League Finals when he completed a sweep of SlayerS-EG. GuMiho is most known for his innovative and meta breaking Terran builds and is committed to always pushing the limits of Terran and himself to win. Yeah, I don't see anyone breaking that record anytime soon.
The only tournament that we can compare with is the playoff of WTL but it is different mainly because of online setups. So, it is definitely a legit argument.

is this because of a new gamers8 format? otherwise why would c9 enter sc2 in 2023

Anyway grats Gumiho and C9! C9 knows that's SC3 is being announced this weekend at blizzcon.

Cloud 9....that's a name I haven't heard in a long time. Interesting that they decided to pick a sc2 player

Like everyone else, I'm happily confused.
My best guess: 1. Profit in SC2 is small, but investment is tiny. 2. Saudi esports world cup.

NO.
We gave him raises. He asked for another shortly after a raise but it was too high we couldn't afford it. So he decided not to continue.
He bet on himself as I mentioned, and it took months but he presumably got what he wanted. I've always said he deserved it and support him if you check my tweets.
Best to him and C9, and this is great news for GuMiho and SC2 in general.

Mods why'd you change my title from Gumiho joins Cloud9 to Cloud9 signs Gumiho that's such a weird subtle change to make I hate the word 'signs' when referring to esport pickups I would never title my post that

Extremely exciting news but it definitely begs the question...why now?

Sorry if my post came around like I was suggesting there was any beef between Psi and Gumiho. I just wanted to point out that you specifically (and in good-will) said that you couldn't afford his salary-wishes and I assumed that these were a big reason he wasn't picked up by anyone else.

All good. In the end it was best for everyone. Hopefully C9 forms a team for WTL.

Do you guys know something about a Gamers8 next year that I don't know about? Is there a link anywhere?

Nothing yet, but seems like they will announce a Esports League soon

There is not much concrete, but they way they teased it there is a possibility that it will be a cross-game tournament, so orgs will need a broad lineup to compete. And since RTS is listed as one of the genres they want to include, it makes sense to pick SC2

great news!!! hope they keep on investing

They already had something like this in 2023, where there was a side prize pool (still in the millions) given to the teams/clubs with the best overall placement all across games. They're now shifting to make that overall team competition the main focus in 2024.

C9 investing in RTS means they have an eye on StormGate release.

Stormgate will not be a competitive and balanced game by the time this world cup takes place. If we go by Gamers8 this will be some time in summer 2024

So I wont be shocked if teams will start hiring SC2 players if they boost the prize next year for team award.
