Can't say I'd blame Afreeca for not permitting online casts of GSL. Maybe some tri-casts with Artosis casting remotely would be a good compromise. Hell even guest casts from time to time would be rad.
Gonna miss him.
Where in the world does it say they did not permit online casts for GSL?

Did ZG come to visit Korea for this reason too?

We had a good run boys, congratulations to that TL article that said the last gsl would be in 2022.

End of an era.
Wishing him and his family all the best!

Truly end of an era. That said, online GSL casts are probably not the best idea.

Wow, that brings back memories. Arty really did make it.

Did not see this coming, Artosis has given me so much joy : so thank you

Amazing, lived his dream

Plus side is that the east coast of Canada is one of the best time zones for esports. He’ll be more able to cover NA/EU events.

Oh wow. Good luck and all the best!
GSL forevaaa!

Sadly, I think this just points to the end of GSL with more certainty. :/
Going to miss Tastetosis and GSL. :/
At least they'll still cast ASL though.

Is there any reason for the GSL to stop though? Like, is the deal between Afreeca and the sponsor are going to end as well? I just see its still going fine, and we have more players coming back from military and doing pretty well and attract enough fanbase, especially with more foreigner coming over. And greatest of luck to Artosis and his family, thats a great family decision and we are all going to miss him.

I can't blame him... if you are young, Korea is the place to be... Having multiple kids, Canada provides so much advantages in terms of space of apartments, nature, healthcare and education... perfect place to go. I wouldn't want to raise kids or getting old in Korea myself as a foreigner...

The GSL, like most esport events, Starcraft or otherwhise, is financed partly by Blizzard. In 2020, Blizz negociated a 3 year deal with them and ESL, it's up this year and we don't know what's next after it. The GSL in its current form is most likelly not durable without Blizzard support.

I might just be dead wrong on this, but I thought GSL was never part of the deal between Blizzard with ESL. Afreeca pretty much run the GSL events by themselves, with sponsorship from KR product companies. The only thing that Blizzard has to do with GSL is that its their game, but no financial support is involved.

All good things come to an end, thanks for the GSL casts Artosis
Honestly not too bummed about it though, they'll probably bring State back to cast and I thought he was great with Tasteless.
|
Maybe I'll bump into him if he's in Charlottetown, never met any esports personalities in person being from the east coast, would be super cool!
I don't count the one time I randomly met CombatEX....

End of an era indeed. Moving to Canada makes sense given his family situation though.
I also wonder about GSL though. Even if GSL continues, it's been... man, 10 years strong with Tastosis. Seeing them cast GSL is like comfort food at this point. Those two even predate the rise of big YouTubers. Definitely sad to see that come to an end.

PEI is a good choice tbh. good location, affordable housing, family ties (? I believe?). Big change from Seoul though ofc.
It was nice meeting you at various events way back in the WGT/WCG era and the first few DH in Europe outside Sweden for SC2, glad you ll be able to attend more of those in an easier way as tournaments resume, hopefully DH Montreal too.
Thanks for all the work in Korea and for the scene.
