A great tragedy has befallen the GSL last night.
With his shameful trickery of the brave and honest Creator, the evil Rogue moved one step closer to win the G5L trophy and as such tarnish forever the legacy of the GSL. The situation is dire as it's seems like nothing and no one can stop the patchzerg, and dire situation call for drastic action. If no players in the GSL can stop Rogue from leaving his slimy name the anal of SC2 history, only a single logical solution remain, to stop the GSL altogether .
I can already hear some of you, proclaiming that there are still many options in front of us, or that Rogue surely won't win another, but you are as blind to the future as Chamberlain proclaiming Peace for our time. Nevertheless, I know some of you just will never accept to see the train coming toward us, so allow me present the case for why we should all stop watching the GSL immediately and take it off air before the end of the next season.
1. They are a bunch of liars: The G5L was "allegedly" created to reward a player that conquered Starcraft 2 in Korea five time. But that's just a sham, how many time did you remember Maru kissing a trophy? Cause I sure count 7. We all remember Stats tragic 2020 GSL final against Rogue for a chance to win his 5th in Korea, but did they roll out that fancy trophy? Of course not. Even the origin of the trophy is smear in GOMTV controversy, as it only was created to relish in cruelty as Mvp entered the final with a broken back, only able to limp from his hospital bed to the computer as the producer teased his imminent defeat by flashing the trophy he couldn't get. And now, after all that, we somehow able to believe that perennial round of 8 losers Rogue is somehow already at 4 GSL trophy!? Please, if you can't realize that Afreeca won't give that trophy to anyone but a nydus abuser IDK what to tell you.
2. No more Kpop: For years, Kpop was a staple of GSL finals, with loud display of the country favorite bunch of nonsense before the players started to play. Nowadays, when you organized your whole week schedule around a GSL final, you don't have the delightful surprise of tuning and being warmly welcome to the stream by an hour of a bunch of 20 something women in bright flashing outfit doing somersaults while signing in a foreign language. It's almost like there's barely any reason to watch GSL outside of Starcraft anymore, they even replace the popular adds by segment peaking into players personality and whatnot.
3. The chairs are wrong for Maru: GSL has discriminate for years against short people by giving them inadequate equipment. This had gone mostly unnoticed until ByuN body broke on live TV. It has been while established that only the GSL desk produced such him, but not all players are as expressive as ByuN. Other players of similar size like Maru (pick to prove that Maru and BuyN are the same height: + Show Spoiler +) have suffered long term injury because of the GSL recklessness. You can see the consequence of it by the fact that weird elongated giants like Rogue can play years and never have wrist issues while objectively better adorable little young man like Maru have a broken body at age 24. Should we continue encouraging such behavior? I think not.
4. Tastless lost his passion: Those of us old enough to remember the glory days of GOMTV Brood War coverage remember the soothing growl of his voice. But as his passion for SC2 disappeared, he just didn't seemed to have the dedication to stay committed to his unhealthy living habit. Apparently, he now only chain smoke a whole pack of cigarette on the days when he cast BW and you can really heard the difference.
5. Serral ain't even in it: lol can you imagine watching Starcraft 2 without the god king Serral? What's next, BW without Flash!?
6. You have a finite number of days on this earth: Watching GSL is a time consuming activity, robbing you of precious moments that would be better invested doing activity that stimulate your brain and create meaningful connection. Each second you watch GSL is one you could be using to compose complex dissertation on the state of pvz balance and why a particular protoss played much better and still lost.
7. Do you even remember how it felt not to wake up at 5h30 AM?: The GSL has robbed us of that blessed feeling of slowly waking up as the sun is already way up in the sky. They pretend that it has something to do with timezone of whatever. Lie. ESL has demonstrates clearly that there's nothing stopping us to enjoy Korean Starcraft at 2 PM in the afternoon in New York, well nothing if not the company lack of good faith.
8. soO is back: Do you really want to see him have another miraculous run only to get 12 pools in the final?
|
Mods plz.
But in all seriousness, if Rogue is the first to win the G5L, I'll be disappointed as a Maru fan but as a Starcraft 2 fan I can't really be too surprised or upset. Of course I along with everyone who has been paying attention is upset at how much Zerg has dominated recent years but Rogue has been around far longer than that in GSL. He's been successful for far longer than that.
He is deserving of the G5L if he manages to win another one.
My dream is that the final comes down to him and Maru and we finally see someone annointed with the title.

they should go back to the old tourney format and keep prize pool same.

I think in order to get G5L you have to win a finals and then immediately play Life whom they let out of Kespa jail temporarily. Loser goes to Kespa Jail until the next G5L challenger arrives, winner starts back at 0.

It's a troll post but sort of had me going until I saw a few typos. Damn you to hell COVID, I want foreigners back doing GSL/Afreeca events in studio again though.

Rogue likely would have won G5L already if he didn't get knocked out by Scarlett in the Round of 32, twice.

3/5 blog. Needed more cowbell.

I'm glad my incompetent grammar produced the effect my lackluster writing couldn't

Calls Rogue a patchzerg and the mods don't even give him a warning. Dead game dead forum.
(I love all of you)

Yet another awe-inspiring shitpost with some valid points and bitter pills to swallow.

They don't even make any money off of me, how am I supposed to boycott them? If anything, they lose money with me watching because all of their spending on ads go straight to my adblocker.

How come people missing the most egregious one, no ZvZ final, stop letting Dark and Rogue play on the same bracket and give us the most-anticipated matchup already, bohhhh.
|
Just great read, thanks for the nice entertainment!

I was really hoping this would be more subtle to get the rubes riled up!

leaving his slimy name the anal of SC2 history
Oh my.

IKR? It's been forever since GSL had a ZvZ final. Brackets always rigged against Zergs. GSL should lose its premier tourney status.

His whole post is just a troll you dummies xD

what a post, what a time to be alive. I disagree with the last point though, I want soO back in GSL so bad

Reading the title and the poster, I kinda expected something like this (whereas one of the usual sad zealot user might have been serious), funny read! Getting up early in the morning to watch MarineKing get slaughtered by Mvp at sunset are fond memories, but I don’t miss the GomTV player and awful stream qualities

I don't follow SC2 but I saw format of GSL changed. What you guys think, is it better than before or they better bring old format back?

I believe the new format is only as good as how the matches go. One thing I do like about the format itself is that all the matches are known in advance, so players can prepare 100% for what’s in front of them, whereas the old format players are preparing for matches that might not happen.
For the first time we had crazy jeopardy, with both the likes of Maru underperforming, and guys like Creator and Rag pulling out big results. This specific time round I found it more exciting than the usual groups.
If, on the other hand the top players all show up, I could see it being quite a boring processional stage, lacking too many stakes.
Although there’s fewer matches in the GSL one, the WCS EU groups are extremely boring not because of the format itself, but because the top tier are levels above and it’s very, very predictable.
I don’t like Bo5 for Ro4. That’s the only actual issue I have with the format itself

This is not a response that will make me popular. This is not a post that will start negative but end with eloquent, poignant hope. But we have been skirting around this topic ever since 2018 now, so I’ll just f**king say it:
The competition in Korea at this point is a farce.

Tasteless regained his passion with LotV. Since then the casts rly lvled up in enjoyment, much more lively and many more jokes.

That said GSL has reasonably regular Terran/Protoss presence in the finals, and the former have even won a few, so transplanting Serral and Reynor over will make GSL reflect what we’ve seen in the World Championships for a while

I'm on the same boat as some of the previous posters, my only problem with that new format is the bo5 ro4, I loved to have them bo7. Otherwise it's fine even if I personally liked the former format better.

almost got baited, good post
pls have twice perform next gsl

You forgot the worst part of it all, these trophies which are extremely ugly. I think that is a big reason serral doesn't play in gsl, who would play in a tournament for a month to win that?

This is especially true in the COVID era because GSL remained offline, and I think we should take online results with a grain of salt. It's understandable why we took them more seriously during the COVID era because we had almost nothing else, but hopefully once lans become more regular we'll be skeptical of them again.
Once we have more regular lans with Serral, Reynor, Clem, and 5-6 of the top Koreans it will be debatable whether GSL is still the second most prestigious tournament though. Because I think the format of GSL tests for skill better than weekenders I'll still consider it the second most prestigious tournament, but that's a very subjective judgement on my part.

Finding 6 koreans still playing SC2 competitevely, that is a pretty optimistic outlook on future lans..

There is a reason it is called "Greatest of all time", not "best of all time". Sure, it mostly is about skill and accomplishements, but if you can't even hold up the lowest of standards, your name really does not belong in the GOAT-discussion.

This surely is a troll post. He wants Serral, but doesn't want soO? soO won a trophy! Other players from the army are also showing great performances, like DRG and Dream. Wtf you missed Neeb's Ro4, talking about great foreign players? And who denies Serral to participate in GSL? Wrist issues because of the player's height? Really? Maru somehow won 4 trophies consequetively I enjoy dubstep and speed metal over K-POP, but there are plenty of K-POP in Korea, go check it out! Time-consuming activity? So set aside GSL, other time of your ordinary day are all helpful? Tasteless lost his passion? When and where?
That's just a post of Byun fanboy (patch terran reaper guy) and Rogue (not a patch zerg, as it turned out) hater. Dude if you have a problem with GSL you can skip it
