2021 GSL Season 2: Code A

The match-ups for Code A Season 2 have been announced! The eight winners will move on to Code S, joining the four seeded players (top four from the previous Code S Season), and four players who advanced directly from the qualifiers.

Players qualified for Code S

First dark then zest..

Poor parting....

Really hate this new format

They need to seed players better. Forgg and Percival should not be playing each other while Parting vs zest is a thing...

This only happened because Zest lost to Keen.

For this, you need to blame zest for coming out from the loser's bracket. ForGG did perform relative well though.

Ahhh gotcha. So there is some kind of seeding. Fair enough

But why Zest got Parting and Percival only got ForGG? They both got into code A through the last round of the qualifer. And Zest should have the "weaker" opponent.

A GSL format with groups is what I want to see for this "Code A" tournament.

That was the previous format for Ro24, they changed to code A probably to shorten the code S season so that they can add in another Super Tournament.

They've been cutting players the past few years because the Korean pro player base is eroding and they want the name Code S to represent at least some standard of quality.

Thats not true, Zest got through via loser bracket. ForGG got through via winner bracket and also won his seeding match.
The system is fair, Zest lost his shot.

I was comparing Zest case to Percival, not ForGG. There were 4 guys who got the last 4 slots from the qualifier, and how the seeding were decided among those 4?

The second day of qualifier qualifies 3 players for each group, 2 from winners bracket and one from loser's bracket, then the two from winner's bracket plays a seeding match.
ForGG and PartinG came out from winner's bracket and won the seeding watch, therefore they are "tier 1" player, zest and percival came out of the loser's bracket, becoming the "tier 2" player.
"Tier 1" players are matched with a "Tier 2" player at random. PartinG got unlucky to have zest and ForGG got lucky and got percival. Over.

So it was RANDOM, not seeding.I know about the Tier 1 and Tier 2 shit, but didnt know how they divide the players within each Tier further.

Code A needs to be groups or double elim or something, this is unfair for Parting twice in a row he gets a top tier opponent

Parting vs Zest of course stands out but I also think Dark vs Armani is a pretty sad one as well especially with the small amount of good Zergs in Korea. I feel like both of them belong in Code S currently.

Ummm they did seed the players in the qualifiers. Wooki only just made it into Code A. Dont know why youd blame the tournament they had a fairly transparent process, wouldnt be very fair if ForGG won his seeding and they made him play Parting instead of P7GAB.

Imo the problem isn`t seeding but the format itself. If they seeded all the players even in the respective tiers, new gsl players would always get the strongest opponent, which makes it very hard for anyone new to advance into Code S.
If they do it like they currently are, PartinG just got freaking unlucky twice and actually if he loses vs Zest and maybe gets a rough draw for season 3 again he may just miss on blizzcon due to bad luck with seeding basically.
Overall I just really dislike the system of a single Bo5 for Code S and would prefer to see another group stage as before. Also invites from last season really suck imo. Just qualifiers for everyone (maybe except winner) would be such much better i think.

I'm fine with the format as it is, the seeding is done in a rather logical way. Yeah PartinG, Zest, Dark, Armani and others can consider themselves unfortunate while ForGG and Percival must be elated to face one another, but I don't think seeding based on previous GSL performances would be fair to new players. I mean, Zest should have won his series vs Keen to get a more favorable seeding, once you've got such a player in the group they're not meant to be in, you're bound to have heartbreaking match-ups.

Why are these matches not on the calendar? I only remembered they were tonight because I was having a conversation with my friend earlier and looked it up.

Submitted. Hope I did it right.
