Update 24th of April: Some players have expressed a concern regarding scheduling conflicts for the Korean qualifiers. We have therefore decided to change the Korean qualifiers to 1-day events taking place on Thursdays. The information below has been updated. Our full statement is available here
So you are ready to compete in the TeamLiquid Starleague?
Here is what you need to know:
The TSL5 qualifiers are divided into Korean server qualifiers and North American/European server qualifiers (global qualifiers). Players with South Korean nationality are only eligible to play in the Korean server qualifiers (no change). Players with citizenship or permanent residency in countries other than South Korea may choose to compete in EITHER the Global Qualifiers (NA/EU servers) OR Korean server qualifiers (cannot compete in both).
We feel that this policy allows broad international participation while also avoiding the issue of non-Korean players being able to double-dip in both the Korean and international scenes.
One more important thing to note is that, before registering, your account must be at Diamond rank or above. You will also need to create an ESL account to use the ESL Play system. If you have questions about your region eligibility, please leave a question in this thread or email Manifesto7.
There will be a total of eight qualifiers for TSL5. Three for Korea, three for North America, and two for Europe. They will all be double-elimination qualifiers played out over two consecutive days. Here’s a breakdown of the dates and main tournament spots from each qualifier:

Oh to have Chill cast some games would be so so nice.
Three NA and only two EU qualifiers? Because even when some EU players will qualify via NA, there are still good chances for some NA players to qualify as well, as long as they can play on NA servers?
Now this is what I'm talking about the return of the TSL~! TSL3 was one of the greatest Sc2 tournaments I can't wait to see who qualifies up and what sort of fun production stuff Team Liquid comes up with this time!

Probably because it's easier for everybody (KR, EU) to play on NA than it is for KR to play on EU. So people like Scarlett living in KR, and all the Chinese and SEA players will be able to have a better qualifier experience.

Yes, logistically it was unfeasible to hold specific region qualifiers like WCS Challenger (separate for China, SEA, LATAM, etc), so having 'global' qualifiers on NA and EU seemed like the best course of action. Obv ppl can quibble about the exact # of spots each region should get, but that's any tournament
definitely some of my best ever memories were playing in the TSL qualifiers for starcraft broodwar and sc2 and then watching all of the games and finals. years later I'm still cherishing those memories both as a player and a spectator
Big thanks for everyone on TL for bringing this back and best of luck to all the players this time around!
We have received feedback from Korean players regarding scheduling conflicts for Korean qualifier #2 and #3. We have therefore decided to change them to one-day qualifiers and will be moving them to the following Thursday, compared to where they were originally scheduled. The main post has been updated to reflect this.
We will make an official statement on this, shortly.

It's good that you're changing it but it shouldn't have taken feedback from the players to figure out that Monday and Tuesday (and Saturday) are bad days for the Korean qualifiers.

We fucked up, no other way to put it, really. There are no excuses here. We're just hoping that acting on it as soon as we discovered the issue will fix the issues.

What is the reasoning for allowing somebody who turned 16 yesterday but not allowing somebody who turned 16 today?

I'm assuming it's so that you're 16 years old in every time zone
