wanting to be part of pro competition is a big part of why he came back to SC2 instead of BW, and it makes sense that he'd want to coach in LCK along those same lines.

I don't get why LCK teams wants Starcraft players tho, surely after 10 years of pro lol there are more than enough retired pro who know both the teamleague atmosphere and the game itself?
I mean Fantasy hasn't been in a teamhouses in half a decade, anyway good for him if it pan out.

I would be such a shame if Fantasy retired now. He has steadily improved over the last year, it really looks like he could start competing with the very best. Hope he doesn't feel like he has hit his skill ceiling.

Wax don't do this to me man you're killing me.
First oov and now FanTaSy, I couldn't handle losing both to LoL. It was bad enough FanTaSy picking SC2 over BW T_T

yeah I can't speak to whether that's the best method, but if you were an ex-pro in anything in Korea you end up being a candidate for a coaching job in [new esport X]

Not surprised as WCS 2020 isn't confirmed. Unless we move to the CS:GO model in which tournament organizers fund tournaments and prize winnings (unlikely), I think we'll see a lot more players retire and lose sponsorship.

Well this year WCS got confirmed in like early february? It look like we should have something next year with Smix anouncement, the GSL CEO statement, IEM Katowice having sc2 and overall the community figure looking pretty confident.
With all that said, it's not clear in what form we will have something if we do.

well it's not like SC2 has another 10 more years ahead, clearly Blizzard has other games in mind... it's fair that players like Fantasy look somewhere else for income, sadly. yeah maybe WCS 2020 is confirmed but for his career he would be better off coaching LoL.

I don't think Smix announced anything. She was simply saying something to close off the Global Finals. Until Blizzard actually says something, I'm not believing it. It's also weird how none of the SC2 personalities said anything about WCS 2020.
As for IEM, it is bound to happen regardless of whether there's WCS 2020 or not. IEM Katowice is the biggest IEM event of the year. For CS:GO, we have the IEM Grand Slam in which the best teams of 2019 will be competing for the most prestigious prize outside of a major. For SC2, it is when the best SC2 player outside of Blizzcon is crowned.
I cannot comment about GSL but wasn't this year's GSL based on Blizzard's support?

Ya GSL is based on Blizz support (it's been the case for years) but the CEO said "see you next year" (or something like that) so i assumed he at least didn't have any one saying they weren't comming back. I'm pretty sure IEM Katowice also is in partnership with Blizz and even if it wasn't, I assumed they wouldn't have come back if they had heared Blizz was cutting SC2. Also I know at least Maynard as said that WCS was comming back next year.
Nothing for sure but it's a bunch of small clue that thing seems to be going into some kind of WCS in 2020.
We are never protected from another HOTS of course.

Yeah, on the other hand having some one who has been at the highest level of esports competition coaching you could have its own advantages, even if its a different game. Coaching i'snt just about teaching technique and strategy, although that is really important. Alot of it is psychological. Who better to teach you how to prepare for the big stage then some one who went through the same thing? LOL teams are big enough that most teams have more than one coach so having a guy like fantasy coach your team would make sense.
Don't get me wrong I would love to see him compete but I also can see why this would happen.

I hope not, but it should be easier than being a programer at least. Good luck on your search for a new team.

I know right, especially with the recent retirements of many so many high level players in the Korean LoL scene it certainly seems absurd that they still would want StarCraft players in their coaching team

LOL teams are big enough that most teams have more than one coach so having a guy like fantasy coach your team would make sense. Don't get me wrong I would love to see him compete but I also can see why this would happen. I’m not sure what a LoL coach’s job description is, or what the term refers to.
In football (soccer) parlance the manager, in the Anglophone world is basically the head coach. It’s changed a bit now as money in the game keeps rising but traditionally he was the guy who ultimately chose what players to bring in and shift out, the main motivator of the group. Could be a tactical genius but could be totally lacking too and rely on other coaches to do the tactical and technical drilling.
In other footballing cultures the term manager is usually replaced with coach. In American sports, that are structured a bit differently you have a coach that’s vaguely analogous to the British manager, with the (general?) manager in that context being more involved with the business side of things than the pure sporting.
Gets rather confusing :p I feel guys like Fantasy and oov would have a ton to offer in a consultant capacity or structuring training and helping young players navigate the psychological hurdles of being in high level eSports. It’s a nascent industry and basically nobody has that kind of experience.
On the other hand if coaching refers to coming up with strategies and game plans, well I really don’t see what value BW vets would bring over experienced top LoL players.

There was interview with Zest and Stats where they talked about getting the letter for their military service. So, as much as I want this to be true...

Fantasy also retired. Maybe he'll be a coach in esports team.

I think the rumors of FanTaSy becoming a LoL coach is probably the reason for his retirement.
That means so far Classic, ByuL, herO, FanTaSy & GuMiho are all either leaving for miliary service or retiring.
