As night fell over Seoul, the first four participants of the GSL Season 3 quarterfinals gathered to see who could book their ticket to the Ro4. First up were (P)sOs and (Z)Solar, followed by (Z)Rogue and (P)Stats in a pair of Jin Air vs Splyce quarterfinals.

(Wiki)2017 Global StarCraft II League Season 3/Code S

Solar applied early pressure with mutalisks in game one, but sOs managed to reach four bases. Solar teched into brood lords, which sOs countered with tempests, and lost the big fight. Solar put in a last ditch effort with mass infestors, but high templars put an end to that.

Game two started with a cannon rush, but resigned itself to the same sort of standoff as game one. The players harassed each other, but it was Solar who put the clamps on sOs' economy, forcing a pair of fights that he took with effective fungals and brood lords.

sOs took a gold base on Odyssey before moving into adepts, but was never able to find any damage against Solar, who assembled a massive roach army that rampaged over sOs' forces and into his natural, giving the Splyce Zerg a 2-1 lead.

sOs killed five drones before transitioning into mass oracles. Solar countered with hydralisks, but was left pinned at home which enabled sOs to expand aggressively while preparing a Blink based push that sent the match to a fifth game.

Solar took a 30 supply lead after shutting down sOs' zealot attack, but ran into a brick wall of immortals as he tried to bash down sOs' third. He eventually did, but sOs had built up an unstoppable archon/immortal army that took the offensive, sending the Protoss to the semifinals.

After 43 minutes of posturing and eliminating the opponent’s buildings, Rogue killed Stats’ high templar and forced a fight. Rogue won the fateful engagement, his infestors, corrupters and broodlords getting the better of Stats' carriers, tempests and void rays.

Rogue did an impressive job repelling Stats' dark templar harassment and even managed to snipe Stats' third. Despite those positive moves, he simply did not have enough back at home to stop Stats' archon laden push from evening the series.

Rogue's proxy hatch completed before it was scouted, but Stats defended it easily, as a stalker and mothership core bought him time to get out immortals. With both players on one base and Stats bearing down on him, Rogue left the game.

Rogue brought the series to a final game with a nydus worm outside Stats' natural. He sieged with roach/hydra/queen and spores, but the arrival of lurker tech signaled an attack that proved to be fatal for the Splyce Protoss.

Down on army supply, Rogue tried to force a basetrade with mutalisks. He was unable to do game ending damage, however, as Stats consolidated his forces to end the attack. Massively behind, Rogue’s mutalisks were blanketed in storms, eliciting a concession.

I watched most of the second series, I thought that they were highly entertaining especially with the long first game and then the relatively short next four games.

It's also nice to see Protoss doing well in a Korean league for the first time since season 1 (as well as in SSL)

Hoping sOs gets to the finals, since Stats is already guaranteed for Blizzcon and also in SSL finals.

Dude... Blizzcon is on the line. It's Money Toss. Of course he's going to win GSL to secure his spot at Blizzcon.

..... and win Blizzcon after that. $0$ fighting baby!

He is not interested in BlizzCons in the even numbered years. Only odd numbered years are his.

You can say sOs wants to offer other players a chance to earn some money.

Hopefully TY wins Blizzcon this year. If he does he'll have earnt more in a single year than sOs (or anyone) has over the whole of SC2.

One of the coolest PvZ between sOs and Solar. Despite my expectations and fear from Rogue and Solar, I am glad that the tosses goes on. This could be one of the really best Round 8 Code S for a long long period of time.

sOs rarely fails to entertain, even when playing badly

He is sometimes overdoing it, like in his first Code S semis.
