The members of Group F collided on the second day of the marathon GSL week. The first match pitted foreigner NoRegreT against SSL champion herO, on paper the most lopsided match-up in the entire round of 32.
And as such, NoRegreT's GSL run got off to a rocky start against herO. herO played two patient games, effortlessly defending ling floods on Newkirk Precinct and Frost. Having done so, he won without twilight upgrades in game one and charge/storm in the second.
Trap had a poor opening match with ineffective double prism play, but pulled back in the series by defending Dark's ravager attack in game two. He completed the comeback on Abyssal Reef with peerless defense and a mighty colossus based force.
herO moved on to the Round of 16 with two timing attacks. His blink stalkers arrived just before Trap's dark shrine finished on Whirlwind, while a three gate featuring a proxy robo ground out a lengthy engagement against Trap's nexus first opening to gain the second victory.
Dark exhibited superior ling/bane micro in game one, overcoming NoRegreT who took the gold as his natural. Both players fought to an impasse in game two, but Dark's faster move into roaches and upgrades paid dividends, sending him into the final match.
Dark advanced via a pair of macro games. Having lost his warp prism, Trap went down a game to Dark’s lethal counterattack. Dark shut Trap down at every turn in the next game, forcing him into a blink stalker based composition that eventually ran out of steam against Dark's hydralisks.

Good on him for finally making it, he's been in Korea for a while now.
The first series vs herO was a stomp, herO was never in any trouble and it was a little hard to watch my fellow Canadian lose like that but in his second series vs Dark he did a lot better. He lost the first game to pretty much one ling scouting the gold at the perfect time and while he did much better in game 2, Dark was just one step ahead the whole time. I feel like NoRegreT was just a little too aggressive with his lings, splitting those five banes between bases rather than just flanking one mineral line with them was a costly error in judgement and Dark simply switched into roaches way ahead of him.
I think it was a good learning experience for him and if he makes Code S next season, I expect NoRegreT to at least win a map or two. He will definitely perform better.
Now SpeCiaL is our foreign hope.
