GSL entered its second week with a matchup between back-to-back finalist soO and his selected opponent, Hush. In the other match, aLive and Leenock brought back memories of Wings of Liberty with their 17th meeting since 2011.
soO and Hush started the series by splitting Odyssey, with soO eventually swarming over tempests, archons, storms and immortals. Game two was much of the same, with soO weathering early drone losses before getting a mass of hydra/ling/bane that closed things out.
Leenock turned to hydra/ling/bane against aLive’s bio/tank, but was unable to mount a comeback and went down a game. Game two turned into a low economy, scrappy mess. aLive's maneuverability eventually won out, though, sending him to the winners' match.
aLive easily defended soO’s one base ravager rush on Whirlwind before ending the game with a lethal tank push. Hellions killed eight drones to start game two, but it was aLive’s multipronged aggression that dealt the finishing blow, making aLive the first player to advance from the group.
Leenock halted Hush's adept all in to take a lead, but dropped the second game in a basetrade. Game three went Leenock’s way as Hush's high tech army was left fleeing from Leenock’s brood lords while hydras sniped his bases. With the writing on the wall, Hush conceded.
soO fell behind when Leenock canceled his third, but he capitalized on an overextension from Leenock to go up 1-0. Both players fought to a draw with ling/bane in game two, but, from there, soO out-produced Leenock in a proper roach vs roach to advance to the Round of 16.

Very happy to see a previous season finialist advance from the Ro32 and a player who's shown strong form the last few months advance also. It's important for any sport or e-sport to have consistency and separation among players at the highest level, and I think the formatting of many tournaments in the past hasn't fostered either of these things that well. This newer GSL Ro32 group selection format (and obviously the SSL format) seems to be moving things in the right direction.

please, korean zergs, STOP the nonsense one base ravager push. has it ever worked?

Nice recap, I imagine there already has been some debates around this, but I feel like I would prefer if the clips were about the turning points or most exciting parts of the game, rather, than the ending.
Granted, showing the ending provides a good understanding of the way the game went most of the time, and the gg is very iconic and whatnot, but hearing the casters tell how much it's over each times is weird

I do the clipping so I know what you're trying to say, but when I'm doing three other things, it's easier to just clip the ending. I will try harder to pay more attention and show better clips in the future, so for now forgive me.
On top of that, I honestly think the games today were pretty lacking. Multiple times they just ended without anything of note happening. It's really an awkward spot to be in where I'm trying to entertain and inform, but there's nothing to show.

Yeah, until he doesn't stop it.

Yeah, until he doesn't stop it. But it's gonna work because of the mindgame!

Happy that soO advanced but his ZvT was abysmal, as seems to be the case for him recently. Are there problems with ZvT right now or is soO just really not good at the matchup? Does he struggle vs terrans on stream?

soO just blows against Terran. Luckily he has at least a week to make some progress before the R16.

Luckily he has at least a week to make some progress before the R16. That's a bit of an exaggeration, soO's ZvT might not be at Dark's level but he can definitely put up a fight against even the best Terrans.
He does struggle against mech though.

With so many strong Terrans in the league this season, SoO probably won't make it past the Ro8.
