Yeah and kelazhur too. Feels weird to have WCS without all these guys. Great to see Vortix play though.

...I sincerely don't know which "parameters" are used for a sign up to a wcs tournament to be taken into consideration and then accepted (apart from the rules in the handbook ofc) but if it just a matter of time souL kinda makes me laugh with his "4 days ago" since the sign-ups opened more than a month ago now and with all the local players signing in I doubt that 15 days before the tournament there would ever be slots still available...

I signed up like a week ago, and I got accepted with a mail later that night. I think they just go by first come first served :/

Congrats and gl hf!

I think CynicalDeath's point above still stands though. There are only 4 tournaments to keep track of this year for our ambitious foreigners, and the qualifier was played a long time ago...

This list is clearly not final by any mean. Cope America is still on-going so it is very likely that Major, Kelazhur or Cham will get the 2 slots on Ro32 so they won't be at open bracket at all. That should free up 2 more slots.

Also, I understand there is first-come first-serve rule here but this is just straight-up bad and frankly amateur. Let make an cut-off date for sign-up. Then, from the pool of signed-up players, select them based on recent performances and perhaps some home-country players. For those who sign up after cut-off date, first-come first-server if there are still slots open.

This is professional event and somehow the registration process is confusing and unorganized. At least keep it together to show some courtesy to players and fans worldwide.

I think it's a very reasonable system.

It shouldn't be that hard to sign up long in advance. Also first served means blizzard can send acceptance letters right when you apply, which makes it much easier to book flight tickets and hotels in long advance.

Honestly if you are a professional player who makes a living off tournaments like this and you didn't sign up until 2 weeks before the event, I feel like it's your own fault.

What if, like myself, one's a student, who's been hoping to become pro at this game for almost 7 years now, and can only afford to go to Valencia after reaching top32 @ DH Jonkoping? In my humble view the best solution would be to split the signups into two stages: the first one being held on a first come first served basis, where lesser known players could secure a spot by simply grabbing one as soon as the event is announced, and then the second stage where the remaining pool of players is somehow evaluated based on past performance.

Though I agree players should sign up as soon as they can if they intend to attend to the event for real, there are a lot of factors that may delay their decisions. People have a life outside of esports you know. You need to work out the schedule, travelling and money.

Frankly, I dislike players who sign up way in advance and then drop off just couple days before the event like some of them did at Jonkoping. They need to find a way to force players to be more certain with their participation so others can sign up instead in time for event and prepare for their trips.

why are we debating whether the players signed up early enough when it's written right in the OP that there are always a couple of spots open and people can still sign up?

why does it seem like there are people who only follow esports so they can complain that the players, who are a bunch of 18-25 year old gamers, aren't "professional enough"?

While DH Austin and DH Jonkoping could have many vacant spots as these places are difficult to get to, it would not be surprising that there will be too many players wanting to participate in Valencia, especially its a tourist attraction during summer holidays. I am surprised that the open bracket has only 59 signups (out of 64). Clearly there must be more players who want to participate - like Mana, Bly, Soul, ZIggy, Sort of, Heromarine, Beastyqt, Ptitdrogo etc. I don't think they did not sign up (at least not all of them), so most probably there is an issue on the organizers side here.
By the way, I don't think its first come first serve. WCS p[layers have priority in receiving spots.

First come first served is good for players exactly like you. You are really fucking good, ranking highly on EU right now, but you haven't had any major results so far. If they were to filter out players for better ones, wouldn't you find it extremely unfair to be kicked from a tournament for someone with better results? I think this system allows exactly for up and coming top players like you, to shine.

Nah, I'm going to the DreamHack and since I'm going I'll play the tournament for fun, I'm not going to compete again in SC2 on a serious plan and I'm not going to be trained
