because it will a kind of invitational thing based on previous result, which means giving points for this would just give more point to people who already have plenty?
I don't really know, just trying to guess...

That is why last year WCS was so good for foreigners, having multiple opportunities to travel to tournaments, giving exposure to your region and teams that otherwise you would not be able to. Now you have 4 chances this year, good luck with that. The only thing is that Blizzard annouces more WCS circuit events during the year, but by the way the initial annoucement was written it was like there were not gonna be anything more that what was announced. If there are more foreign tournaments, I would expect them to not be part of the WCS circuit, which means no regional qualifiers for players to be able to participate in.

Huge technical problem twice in a row affecting DH Open and WCS means that it's a logical move.

Well, I did raise precisely this concern in the WCS 2017 Announcement thread, but I suppose quite a lot of people around here couldn't care less what happens to WCS. However, if the foreigner scene is down to 4 major tourney per year it clearly has one two major implications: 1. foreigners that want to stay pros simply don't have many reasons to continue playing starcraft anymore; and 2) Cutting the WCS from 10 (as it were in 2016) to 4 tourneys, WCS simply becomes uninteresting to follow. 4 competitions, what kind of circuit is that? Its such a tremendous failure of keeping an interesting circuit going. In 2016 players were fighting so hard throughout the year to be among the top 8, and it wasn't decided until the very last tourney who would make it. Now this is all gone it seems.
