Alex 'Neeb' Sunderhaft made a new history. Alex won KeSPA cup, being the first non-Korean player who won Korean tournament in 16 years.

On Oct. 3rd in Nexon Arena, he swept Trap 4-0 and won KeSPA Cup finals. It is known that it is his first winning - he've won 2nd place in IEM Shanghai and DH Austin.

- You won the tournament. How do you feel?

Good. I'm very happy to have my first winning in Korea.

- Did you expect you'd do this well in KeSPA Cup?

▶ I have a tournament in Toronto and I only cared about that tourney; I didn' know I'd win KeSPA Cup.

- Do you feel confident in PvP?

▶ I established my own build and then got confidence in PvP.

- You're so good at controlling Disruptors. Are there any secrets?

▶ It's my style in NA ladder. I've used it for one year and I become good at it.

- Did you expect that it'd be 4-0?

▶ Personally, I think Trap is not as a good player as TY. So when Trap beat TY I expected I'd make a clean sweep.

- You didn't play against Terran. Isn't that depressing?

▶ Since I'm bad at playing against Terran, it's good to me.

- Now you are expecting Snute, Zest and Patience in Blizzcon.

▶ I love to face two Protoss in my group. However, there's a Zerg. Since Snute's playing is very hard to counter, I'd say I'm not that happy.

- It was your first Korean tournament.

▶ I was very happy to win against Koreans in Korean tournament.

- Any words?

▶ Bring it on, Protoss! (laugh)

'Dat confidence! Hope his PvT well get as godly as his PvP and solid as his PvZ.

ha ha some serious trash talking on Trap ^^. Although I agree, it would have been way more interesting vs TY.

If the Blizzcon group is set to be that, I can really see a chance for both foreigners to advance...

Congrats Neeb!

But that comment about "being the first non-Korean player who won Korean tournament in 16 years" bugs me. Yes, it's a fact, but rather misleading. It implies that foreigners have been trying very hard for years to win tourneys in Korea and fail miserably, when that's simply not true. Foreigners just haven't had many chances to compete in Korea (at least for SC2), hence the low probabilities of them winning all this while.

It's like making a big deal out of Germany being the first ever European country to win the World Cup in South America (in 2014). Yes, it's a fact. But when you consider that the World Cup is held every four years and the hosts are spread out across the continents, the record-breaking feat is more down to limited chances.

Yes, what Neeb has achieved is amazing. But let's not treat it as if Haiti has just won the World Cup.

There's been more foreigners competing in Korea in SC2 than in BW despite the former only being half as old.

You're right. I kinda guess someone would point that out when I wrote it. What I had in mind was that foreigners had plenty of time to compete with Koreans in BW over the span of 10+ years, but they couldn't bridge the gap (for reasons of infrastructure support, etc.). Never mind, I should have probably edited out "(at least for SC2)".

I think you really underestimate how many foreigners were going to Korea in SC2's heyday. Nearly every top tier foreign player went to Korea to play in Proleague and were given seeds into the GSL, and they just had zero success. Even the "best foreigner ever," Stephano, got knocked out of the GSL in like the ro32 by Flying, who retired a couple months later because he didn't even like the game.

It sounds like "We could beat Koreans whenever we want. It wasn't because there's no chance."

That's nuts - the last time a foreigner had accomplished this Brood War was in its infancy and in the pre-Boxer era

Guess we found out what price he had to pay to win a korean tournament.

He didnt have to sell his soul, nay he did something else (though some would say its basically the same thing)

Neeb himself has become korean, as evidenced by his interview answers
