I'm still disappointed its in Tours, that still doesn't make any sense. First of all its bad for the audience, going to tour means Taking TGV or renting a car in paris ( assuming european/americans/asians will arrive in france in the national airport ) and whereas a plane ticket to paris is really cheap ( around 20 euros for any european ), renting a car or taking the TGV is not ( its 70 euros minimum ) + Taxi fare once you are arrived. This is a good way to repulse anyone that isn't french to go GG.
Secondly Tour has nothing that is esport related, Paris has Millenium,aAa,NuitBlanche,The meltdown,Ogaming, multiple well known LAN rooms,Webedia ect ect... Now i know that Dreamhack probably doesn't give a fuck but this would actually mean a lot to people coming from all across the world.
Then you have the city itself : Paris doesn't need an introduction , its gorgeous. Tours is actually a shithole the only thing cool about Tours is that when you pass it with you car the highway gives you a nice view on the water tower where its written "saint pierre des corps" on it ( french people Know what i'm talking about ). Other than that Tour is one of the most boring city of all time, its grey, it has nothing worth visiting, the people don't have a unique culture, there's no good food, there's no exceptional nature...This is literally the most bland city of all france.
When it comes to the technical stuff cities like Paris have 1 GB / s optical fiber when tour is probably struggling with some shitty 100 meg fiber. Paris also has a huge transportation network allowing people to move around whereas tour has really crappy buses.
Annnd finally to clarify when i say "Paris" its Paris and its surroundings but that doesn't matter since you can get pretty much anywhere with the transportation ( ask aeromi he's an "expert" on suburbs parisian trains x) ).
As for the actual cost i'm sure that there's plenty of rooms in paris that were just as expensive at this thing in tours ( that nobody has ever heard of tbh ), you don't have to do ala Ogaming in a prestigious venue but the suburbs offer some pretty good alternatives ( that goes for the hosting too, a lot of suburbs offer cheap hotels ( as cheap as tours at least ) )
PS : I'm sorry if you live in tours, i promise that i'll try to send you anti-depressants and weed if you leave me your address. that has to be one of the most biased view i have ever witnessed hahahaha i had a great time
but there is also a bit of truth there, but keep in mind that you're comparing tours with paris, it's like comparing a bike with a bugatti

This is a good way to repulse anyone that isn't french to go GG. Because there are absolutely no other trains then TGV in France and the only way to get around a city is by taxi, right? Also the idea that a European can get a plane ticket to France for 20E is really funny. Maybe once in while, if you happen to live in the right place and very unlikely to get it timed right for the DH. Otherwise, 20E doesn't even cover the airport tax ... The typical "good" price from Prague to Paris is about 100-150 E return. Sorry, but you are just making stuff up to support your argument. Yeah there's no other train that goes from Paris to Tours man, except maybe the Intercité which is also expensive. Ohhh and you want to get around a city in France with you luggage, be my guess ! I'd love to see you get in our buses kek. The fact is unless you want you life to be a Pain you will have to taxi from the train station to your hotel. I'll admit that i hyperboled the 20 euros flight but 100 euros trip is more fair ( and its STILL CHEAP , that's like 50 euros per trip ) Btw i just ran a small simulation, the fees for spannish man would be 100 euros plane from madrid + 97 euros for the train to tours + around lets say 10-20 euros of taxis / Uber. That's 117 euros this guy is spend just for going to tours ( LOL ). YOU COULD take blablacar from paris to tours (that is cheap) but for anyone that doesn't speak french its gonna be complicated.
You also forget that you can take the bus now (thanks the governement which opened this market) for less than 10€, maybe even 3€

You forgot to mention that you will have to share the bus with a bunch of loud Portuguese. I mean that's Guantanamo level of torture, and you will pay for it ?

Edit : Thanks for the moderator showing that he is an american without any understanding of the european culture. This is a running joke that is used pretty much in every country and its in no way offensive. We are still able to make country-jokes without becoming mad but apparently that's something you can't understand.

Awesome. I was considering going, but I didn't find information anywhere about the language of the cast there. Since it would be my first sc2 tournament, I don't really know what to expect. Can anyone help me?

It will be casted in english by the usual staff. Since its france you can probably expect some cameo by Ogaming or maybe stephano but don't worry the tournament is gonna be fully english.

Surely would be more effective and higher standard of play for both tournaments if it was the other way around. How does an open bracket raise the standard of play? Some players won't travel unless they know they will be in the Ro32. I think having open qualifiers is a better way. Open qualifiers are essentially an open bracket that everyone can play in rather than only those who can afford to travel. Open brackets are kinda just favors to lower skilled players who are either local or richer and can thus afford to travel with less promise of reward.
My only reason for making these comments are because I could name 64 decent EU players but could not name 64 decent NA players. I think their would be enough decent players in NA to fill a field of 32 however.
Edit. Obviously very subjective and I do watch a lot more EU players etc, but even in online stuff that is friendly to NA players you generally only see a few names coming up again and again, and the amount of names is closer to 32 than 64, for me.

Thanks for the answer mate :D It's what I thought, but when I emailed DH they told me they don't yet and I was like wtf, does whoever answer me have no clue or could it be an issue :D I speak french myself but my buddies don't so yeah...
Gonna be an awesome tournamement, sad on one hand it isn't stand alone (less games for us to watch), but the prize pool always ads some tension, and so does the blizzcon spot. And if a frenchie get's close to getting the blizzcon spot, the crowd will be amazing. Maybe Lilbow, heard he has been training for a while (sorry couldn't restrain myself )

Wow...only 2 months after Winter Championship.
This means we have from May until November for only the Summer Championship? (not counting the smaller tournaments)

I used to live in (and love ) Paris, but think rationally - for all those exact reasons, the cost of hosting the tournament in Tours is likely to be 2x or 3x cheaper than in Paris. That saved money a. ensures we have a tournament in the first place, and b. will to some extent be redistributed to players via prize. Also why we get Katowice and Austin rather than Warsaw and L.A.
