It doesn't really matter if you don't like the WCS changes, it's just lazy to blame everything on them. This problem would still exist without WCS and the new system looks like it offers better incentives to upcoming players in Korea. They would still have to qualify for Code A, which is harder and of a higher quality than ANY IEM or DH that they would have been flown out for, plus if they fail and they're not a main team KeSPA guy on a proleague team they have nothing to do for half the year thanks to the WCS changes. In short. I stand by my original statement

In short. I stand by my original statement How is qualifying for Code A harder than winning the Korean qualifiers for IEM? There are other Korean tournaments, but the problem of doing nothing would exist in either system if they failed to qualify for events. Should probably make another thread to talk about this so it doesn't clutter FanTaSy's retirement thread up more though.

But then again maybe they wanted to retire anyway and wanted to spend time abroad first. wat. I didn't know about this. Why? o_O

I'm sure he meant in terms of Proleague. They're not actually banned from the teams, but what team would pay Rain's salary when the guy can't actually play? I see where REyeM is coming from. Especially in DRG's case, although you didn't mention him. That was always completely bizarre to me. Guy left a Korean team to go abroad, without having a foreign team lined up, right before a new year with new WCS rules, right before new expansion that could make him look very unappealing if he didn't adapt to the game faster than others. Whhaaaatttt? That's a career ending move if ever I've seen one. Now two+ months later still no foreign team, no Korean team, and no proleague forever even if he comes back. And he's not super likely to get invited to lots of foreign backed invitationals, compared to some other Koreans (eg parting). I don't see how DRG isn't another retirement just waiting to happen.

I don't think DRG broke any contracts. Pretty sure hes able to play in proleague for any time at this point. I meant specifically players that were involved in: www.teamliquid.net And yeah, sorry, I meant banned from playing in proleague which pretty much means nobody will sign them. Atleast not for decent $$

Atleast not for decent $$ They're not banned from playing Proleague either afaik... Just that their rights belong to SKT, so they have to either rejoin SKT or make SKT sell/gift the rights to other team. I think we should stop calling it a ban, it confuses a lot of people

Idk but I'm pretty sure he left after regular season ended plus no one said anything about it so I'm sure he'll be okay. I think the problem is when you like sign a contract for 5 years/seasons and leave after 2, 3 etc.

Though I am a Zerg player, I know a good player when I see one. Flash could be one of the greatest gamers ever lived. Still, he didn't manage to overshadow other terrans, like of Fantasy's caliber. When Youtube shows me suggestions which are Starcraft games, I cannot watch them all. But when Fantasy plays, I have to watch it. Jangbi maybe won the last two times, but I still like Fantasy. Fantasy, a player who defined terran gameplay.

The hours of practice he put in to keep up with the latest meta, leaving SKT1 for uncharted waters just so he could show as many possible games to his fans while he still had time. So reminiscent of Boxer as he grew to be an old gamer and later transitioned to WoL.... I think FanTaSy is the only player that can actually be called the heir to Boxer other than iloveoov. For me, Boxer's lineage ends here. sSak is next in line for me. He uses a lot of the builds FanTaSy got from oov and still plays like a true SKTerran.
