Though he doesn't fit into their style of playing, acquiring him as a teacher for Creator would be AWESOME, as well as helping Maru with one of his greatest weaknesses.

Didn't SKT1 confirm their lineup already?

Unless Kespa did actually create a 8²th team and convinced SKT to let Rain play there (and he would totally fit as a protoss leader for such team), I see him either staying teamless till WCS is clear and someone picks him up or follow flash into the army. He's a quality player and he would expect a quality salary, but what team would pay him a good salary if he can't play PL for 4 years? So... no good team, no PL, no foreign tournaments... if he doesn't qualify for GSL or SSL, he literally has no career for 3+ months.

Apparently he cannot play in proleague for the next 4 years except if it's for SKT. The same applies to Parting, Soulkey and Fantasy. Parting was in total beast mode earlier this year (95% PvT ~_~) and his team would have done much better if he was allowed to play.

Do they share Western sentiment that this ruling is draconian and anti-fun, or do they think it's reasonable? I'm also interested in this. If I recall correctly there's a similar system in place for Korean and Japanese baseball players, where if they leave domestic leagues before a certain age they're banned from returning to Korea/Japan and competing in domestic leagues for like ten years or something (to prevent the drain of top young domestic talent to foreign leagues right away). So maybe the Proleague restriction also doesn't seem so offensive since there's that context to compare it to there.

The punishment is very harsh, TBH I doubt SKT would even want him back if they were willing to throw the book at him, so he maybe got banned from Proleague. They also did the same to Fantasy, Parting and Soulkey... At the time I read there were disagreements between some of the staff (maybe Oov) and those players, so clearly something not good happened in the SKT house, and SKT took things further.

For a Bo5 League, more then enough. If Rain did re-sign with SKT, I have no doubt he would be in in the core rotation, and could share ace matches with Inno and soO (he was ridiculously clutch as SKT's ace, almost singlehandedly carrying them through the 2014 playoffs) but I agree with you, unless Proleague moves to Bo7 format, I don't see a reason why SKT would re-sign him. It's more than overkill. I hope with all hope that he joins a KeSPA team and is allowed to play in Proleague. Any team besides SKT and KT could really use him. My dream scenario would be Rain, Soulkey, and Fantasy headlining some sort of 8th-team. ![]() Of course, that's under the assumption that he views it as bad that he even has this ban on playing. I don't know if Koreans actually in on the behind-the-scenes of the team view it as a punishment, rather than standard practice when leaving a premier team before the termination of a contract.

Often, players say they will "take a rest," which turns out to be indefinite. If you think about it, it would be surprising, but not entirely shocking, if he retired. He had a (fairly) successful career as a BW player, has killed it in SC2, but can't really play in PL unless he goes back to SKT1. I really hope he doesn't retire, but it's definitely not out of the question.

Do they share Western sentiment that this ruling is draconian and anti-fun, or do they think it's reasonable? Ambivalent. Without 5-year-rule, there`s no way to stop those two Telecom teams from sweeping talented players from this scene, which will break the equilibrium; teams on low budgets cannot protect their players nor get any transfer fee. However, considering T1`s overwhelming strength, Koreans think that it`d be better to make an exception for this case.

I doubt that any Korean team would pick up a player that cant play in PL. Only way we could see him in Korea is SKT picks him up or KeSPA decides to break their on rules and puts him on some sort of a 8th team.

Theory: These guys just can't stand it anymore. They have enough star-power to make it without SKT (or so we thought ... ?). Something is bothering them so bad, that they would rather leave SKT (before contract and screw their Proleague opportunities), leave their guaranteed-spot and guaranteed retirement + Show Spoiler [tangent] + (e.g. like Reach had with KTF) Oov is a backbreaking overly-demanding boss who's too harsh, strict, and extreme with his players (even by Asian-parent standards). Evidence: Sure, it might be because how they feel about SC2 right now, rather than the manager's fault - but I never remember this sort of 'string of top players willing to breach their contract to leave a team' under any other head-coach. Oov's demeanour looked that way when I saw him. IRL he was very stern, intimidating, and cold. If I had a boss whose body-language and way-of-relating was like his, I'd be very scared of disappointing him. Which'd screw me, because his standards are likely impossibly high. Mother Love >> Strict Boss Ofc this is my favorite finals, so I'll link it every chance I get, but I feel it's really telling. Jaedong's just gone 0:2 → 2:2, and his mom is going crazy with support. The two SKT coaches take FanTaSy aside to have a word. What stands out to me is how long and stern the talk was, and the giant contrast in body-language. Look at 14:05. FanTaSy's totally meek, and oov is socially domineering. Now imagine that situation, without the more personal/heartfelt touch of coach Park there. I'm suggesting it's down to person-problems and team dynamics, with no one there to balance-out oov. Used to be Boxer ffs ![]() + Show Spoiler [Linking Fomos Disclaimer] + Yes I know we're not meant to link Fomos, but this was hosted by Plexa and posted on TL in 2009 before that ban, so ![]() http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/final-edits/92605-a-deadly-dynasty And this right here is why I keep coming back to StarCraft - what was going-on behind the scenes? Who are the personalities behind the names, what are they like as people? I'm overjoyed to have briefly met FanTaSy (while still on SKT with Rain and Parting, August 2014), and my fandom/life can be complete if I ever get to unravel the dynamics going on in those shots.
