VOD: www.twitch.tv/dreamhacksc2/v/27762517?t=224m58s

Smix: Congratulations Huk, it's always a good feeling to start the day off with a win and with a win against SortOf. The analysts were actually talking prior to the games about how they'd been really impressed with SortOf lately. So prior to that match, how did you feel going into it.

Huk: Ahh, I felt pretty good, despite what TL writers wrote. I think it's a bunch of bullshit that they wrote that I'm not good in Legacy of the Void or that I haven't proven myself. I feel like I was one of the strongest players in Nation Wars, um, so I don't know. I feel pretty good here, it's pretty cold, other than that I think I'll do really well. I'm hoping to get top 8 or top 4.

Smix: Let's talk about that TL article, because I saw that you tweeted the little paragraph that was written about you. When you see things like that obviously it is tilting as a player to read comments like that, but does it drive you to try and prove them wrong, like what is your perspective as a player.

Huk: Well um, from my perspective I don't let it affect me, I think it's pretty funny. Like I'm all for banter and having fun so I think it's comedical at best. I mean, nothings going to change my preparation that's been these last few months that's not you know, today. So I just think its funny and obviously those writers have no idea what they're talking about, which you know, is hit and miss with TL writers sometimes. So uh, it's not unexpected.

Smix: Ok, well let's jump in to talking about the games. Game 1 was very very dominant and straight forward. Game 2 was a little bit of a more back and forth game. You were very dominant throughout all of game 2, but let's go and break it down a little bit because there were a few moments there where SortOf had that ling runby and it seemed like maybe he had a chance to come back, but how was it from your perspective.

Huk: Um, yeah he definitely did a lot of damage. Zerglings in Legacy of the Void, cracklings, they're pretty good. He's a great player, he's been around in the scene for a long time. I felt pretty good the whole game, I thought I had a pretty big lead. I kinda botched the Warp Prism at the beginning, I think I could have closed the game out that early. All in all, right now, this early in the tournament, it's just about the feel and I feel pretty good. So um, you know I'm looking at it from a positive light. You can't really complain about 2-0.

Smix: And in your group you have four Protoss including yourself and two Zerg players. What do you feel about the players in your group? Of course you have players like Parting, we have Showtime, you just played one of the Zerg players and the other one is Bly. So is there a player out of those that you're kind of... I guess I don't want to use the word intimidated but like not looking forward to playing?

Huk: Yeah Parting is obviously the best player. I kinda looked at Parting like a free loss. I looked at Probe as a free win. But apparently Probe took a game off of Parting so I'm not really sure. Parting's kind of a fuckboi, he's a party animal, so uh, it'll be cool to play against him. And then the other players... a lot of Europeans have been talking shit saying that North America didn't even deserve two slots for the qualifier, which I think is BS. So I hope to prove a lot of Europeans wrong, and you know, return to my former glory. Not only for Canada, but for North America and the west in general. I feel like we haven't had a strong foreign hope in a while and I want to be that.

Smix: Right, well thank you very much Chris. You used up most of our curse word quota for this day, but you keep it real as always. Best of luck in the later rounds.

I couldn't agree more though, a lot of the staff have a very strong bias toward things. Like look at parting not even making the greatest of all time list.... A lot of it is just a joke. A lot of the writers are still in 2011 or 2012 and are definitely not current. They have more interest in writing imaginary blogs than talking about trends in proleague or stats. Like protoss goes on a rampage in proleague, nobody even writes about it. Huk is beasting up the ladder in Legacy, and its completely ignored. The maps are broken zerg favored right now and they fear talking about those things. I find it frustrating to even come to TL a lot of the time. The rest of us cannot even format a nice article so you spend hundreds of hours doing research just to get a few hundred views, there is no point.

TL needs new writers for LOTV, maybe you should apply

I think the TL comment was uncalled for. Huk has tournament wins in LOTV, doesn't matter how he got them. But writers are entitled to write whatever they want. They should just be ready for the reaction.

All in all good fun.

looks like the clueless TL writers got 6/6 "players to advance" predictions right so far.
edit: oops apparently h2h comes before map score so sortoff might still make it instead of bly.

Beyond the TL article comments, I really agree with HuK on the NA/EU thing. It's pretty sad to see how few top-level NA players remain while Europe is having no trouble producing and developing new players at the end of HotS and into LotV. It would be nice to have some NA rep again (and don't even get me started on the absence of US players in particular).

Just some feedback for the interview format. I know you're trying to get the feel and fidelity of the interview as a whole, but it doesn't really help with the meaning when reading it. 'Um' just becomes a distraction. If there's a real pause that shows meaning or the tenor of the interview, it can just go in as ellipses.

HuK's not my favorite, but I think it would be fun if he returned to top 3 control.

Statement about the writers is pretty true. Fanboyism in particular seems to skew the coverage, and there isn't nearly enough statistically-backed writing on this site.

That being said, let me get my own piece of fanboyism in and say HuK fighting! Really hope we can see him in some more premiers in LotV.

I thought that particular article was pretty spot on particularly the predictions (11 out of 12 including predicting HuK being eliminated). And it goes without saying that HuK being one of the subjects of the article wouldn't be the most objective critic.

Let's not forget where the Elephant in the Room article came from...

I just remember when they predicted Innovation would beat Maru, but then Maru crushed. Then they predicted he lose to Rain, but he crushed. But they went ahead anyway and ranked Innovation ahead of Maru in their next power ranking. The youngest Royal Roader got no respect.

I don't think it really matters if TL writers are "hit or miss". They were completely a hit when it came to him in this particular tournament.

Of course it matters how they got them when we asses his skills. TL were basing their analysis of his actual assults given the skill level of the opponents his faced and in that regard, his results weren't impressive + he generally also wasn't good towards the end of HOTS.

We need more content creators that can look at data and give us actual opinions and some tough predictions instead of the whole "everyone is equally good"-mentality or "we must not hurt anyones feelings".

Huk is just a whiny b....

Everyone is assuming MC carried Huk. I think just the opposite. Huk is still full time. It's easy to make these comments in retrospect.

I generally agree with you. Feelings will get hurt if the article is good, but I'm not sure how data will help. Player A placed 3rd in a tournament with x,y,z line up while player B played 7th at a tournament with w,e,t, line up. what does it all mean?

I mean, MC beat Snute/TLO 2v1 in an Archon match at Blizzcon. So it's fair to say he's not being carried by Huk.
