Sad day for CJ fans.

Apparently he's joining a Chinese LoL team.

Chinese teams bought the best korean players last year. Looks like they are going for coaches this time because it was a failure

This one really hurts home for me. As a CJ Fan, I really attribute herO, ByuL, and Bbyong's great performances these last few years to Coach Park. I really hope that CJ stays a successful team and doesn't drop off like Samsung after January left.

Any idea who is going to be taking over coaching at CJ?

Not sure, but maybe they'll promote OriOn? He was always the guy at every event doing mid series coaching (especially for ByuL).

I am not a fan of CJ or Coach Park but SC2 is losing a big person Well, when something ends there is a chance for a beginning! Wish luck to Coach Park :-)
I imagine France should be able to take this unless Lilbow is busy practicing for Starcraft III. | KadaverBB is my fairy ban mother.

This is a huge loss for the Starcraft scene as a whole. Park is brilliant in dealing with kids and young adults in a gaming atmosphere. I hope many new coaches have learned from him.

People go where money is, not surprising. I used to have a lot of respect for Coach Park but the effort incident kinda destroyed my respect for him. Still, best of luck to him!

As a CJ Entus fan (and an SC2 fan) it's a terrible blow to lose such a respected figure. I only hope this doesn't hurt CJ's performance next season - I wonder who will be the next Head Coach for CJ?

That said, I wish Coach Park the best of luck.

You despise success because it is successful?

In a world of finite resources and conflicts of interest, yes. It's perfectly normal and morally acceptable to be outraged when something you have a stake in loses to competing financial interests. How many fields lose talents to tangentially related competitors due to money alone? Are we not allowed to despise big oil for siphoning all the biochemical talent from sustainable energy development?

Riot probably wanted to stop the Korean domination found in BW/SC2 as that could be the only thing that could take down the giant that is LoL. If Korea were levels and levels above the rest of the regions that COULD allow dota (or even HotS) to pass them in popularity as you can root for teams in any region and they actually stand a chance

Probably will, unfortunately...

With LotV just around the corner it seems that Sc2 is taking even more blows than usual, with players retiring and coaches leaving.
I wonder what will happen some time after LotV releases...

Exactly my thoughts, how disappointing this had to be the case. Hopefully if OriOn does become CJ's new head coach, he can keep up a good enough level of coaching so CJ can finally field a strong 4th player for Proleague next year. The trio of ByuL, herO, and bbyong can only go so far.

As sad as I am to see Coach Park go, and as much as I want to spew out a very long and enraged speech of four letter words full of hatred towards the man, I can't knock the hustle. Gotta get dat money, I suppose.

Thanks for your years of service, Coach Park, and GL on the Dark Side.

What a terrible thing to do to herO the week of Blizzcon. At least help your best player win Blizzcon before you desert your team.

However, I also think I could be eating those words, as I don't know much about Park (except for the fact that he lost to a cannon-rushing protoss at MLG Dallas 2013 when HoTS was a new game).

It was MLG Anaheim 2013 not Dallas. Against Bubbles. I remember cuz I was there live.

Does anyone actually know how long Orion has been in CJ? Also who was the lead coach before Coach Park?

OriOn was a BW player on CJ before he went to ACE during his military service. I don't know when he retired exactly, probably around 2012 but he's been a coach at CJ ever since.

As for head coach, not sure. Two coaches left when they brought Coach Park in, so either Kim Dong Woo or Park Si Hyun.

The last head coach was Kim Dongwoo who's now Team DK KR (HOTS Team) head coach.

Kinda upsetting to see all these people disparaging him about taking this job for money. I talked to him about it earlier and he spoke about how much he wanted to work with foreigners again and meet people outside of Korea. Even before coaching EG/TL, he spent long periods abroad and hasn't been able to do that coaching a Korean team. I'm sure money played a role, it always does, but let's not treat this like dollar signs just popped into his eyes.

A sign of the times that one of the finest coaches in esports history leaves for an LSPL team.

Yep those people don't work for free. Esports in not a hobby, especially in Korea, which means that Starcraft must introduce microtransactions and F2P into game or it won't last for long...

Wow! this is deep. All thumbs up for you!

Hello, Fans.
The StarCraft 2 team coach Mr. Park Yong Un and CJ ENTUS, we both have agreed to terminate the contract. We appreciate Mr. Park’s all the hard works for CJ ENTUS.

That's even worse than leaving... He left before his contract ran out, omg...

Assuming his contract would run out early on or just before the next Proleague season, I don't see that it does a significant difference.

I really doubt contract goes till before next proleague seasons.. Contracts run till season ends (which it ended already).
Pretty sure this implies that he had at least one year in his contract remaining if not more.

That seems like a pessimistic interpretation to make based on a choppy statement. I don't know if Park's contract was for one year or two, but if it was the latter it's hardly unreasonable that they would have set a date without knowing when the season after the next (starting before his first season as CJ coach) would start.

Every Korean article I've read says he decided to leave the team instead of renewing his contract, suggesting that he's leaving in a regular fashion.

Also, he was seeking opportunities to branch out to China during the season, and seem to tie in with his past interest in working for international teams.

The question is, how much of an influence someone like him actually was. Have there been any real player statements regarding his impact on the team? Because I have no idea what the exact role of a headcoach is in these teams. Sad to see him go though.

No idea what happened, but I think it's safe to say he's no longer with them. He dropped the CJ from his twitter name early in the year, and he's since disappeared as far as I can tell.
