Interesting choice. Since he is neither a professional caster with a lot of experience nor a player, jumping straight into WCS is a big move.

What are your thoughts?

Lycan is a good guy and produces good content, but I remain skeptical when it comes to his casting since I have not experienced it.

Interesting to see. The lack of casting experience, though, shouldn't matter that much when he is joined by nathanias.

Its great to see Lycan given these big opportunities but i think i speak for everyone here when i say that with his lack of casting experience i feel very skeptical if it will work or not. Hope it does, best of luck Lycan .

I don't have anything against Lycan, but he doesn't strike me as a charismatic guy that makes me enjoy listening to him. Game knowledgewise it's extremely limited as well, so to be honest I question if this was the right decision.

I think Lycan is a hard worker and will prepare well for this. I will also wait until it happened to give real feedback, but I think he deserves the chance. If he just doesn't try to come over as a super analyst and does more play by play while asking the right questions to let Nathanias do some analysis, I think he could do very well.

Anyway good luck Lycan, it will be interesting to see .

The Late Game has come a long way. In many ways, I dare say it has surpassed Remax and become my favorite e-sports show. I love the idea of giving active members in the community a chance to shine.

He'll manage fine. It's a good solution since Rotti's (presumably) still en route when Challenger's happening. Nate doesn't have to solo cast and a community workhorse gets some well-deserved exposure.

I'm not really seeing what he can bring to a casting table, I hope I will be proved wrong, but lacking in knowledge and in-game ability isn't a great start.

This thread is mostly very positive, the "worst" comments are still neutral and very civil. I don't see how you arrived at your conclusion.

I'll jump in on the cautiously neutral train. Seems weird he will cast WCS Challenger, but has the BaseTradeTV crew cast his own league. I'm a little confused.

I love TLG and I think Lycan is a great guy! But if we can expect the same professionalism in his casting as in TLG I am very afraid for the quality of the cast. Also, I don't think he has the game knowledge to fully take this role. I would take him as a host any time, but as a caster..... No please don't.

Hm the thing is he doesn't really cast a lot I think. He hosts The Late Game though.

Here is something I found where he casts a game with feardragon and Temp0. The introduction is certainly epic, just not sure if he can sing at WCS .

This is the same thing that happened with Nathanias - he did community stuff, then got given a shot at something bigger, and no one regretted that decision. I think it's a good move, although I haven't heard him cast except for once on Basetrade, where he was fine.

incontrol and gretorp are both kinda out of the meta in terms of analyzing and calling games, especially gretorp. geoff at least has great charisma and broadcasting presence, and he's still with it enough that he can analyze a game pretty well, but gretorp i really don't think knows the meta at all. he seems like a nice guy, but when i hear him cast i honestly feel like i understand what's going on better than he does

I don't have anything particularly against the guy, but I would always enjoy a player-caster more. Like, even though I don't consider Homestory Cup a significant tournament, given its general atmosphere and structure (lots of invites), I always enjoy the casting. Not just because Incontrol is a funny troll, either! Having pro-players cast is really nice.

Truthfully, if Lycan can provide commentary that is free of the Tasteless dialogue (pun intended), then I'll be happy. There's nothing worse than having to hear about Tasteless' 10-minute story, all while major events are going on in the game. Better hope there isn't a 11-11 proxy rax build, because you won't hear a thing about it until the game has already been decided...

Sounds like he's just casting for this week? Maybe they just needed someone to fill in for a bit and he was the person who was the best fit for the time window and availability?

Yeah, he's a decent host and I like that he's been getting people together for a podcast but casting? I'd guess there are better choices even fairly close to the studio (California right?).

Regardless of how and why this choice was made, I sincerely request - nay URGE - the production, crew and especially the casters to give Challenger and its Players the stage and attention they deserve.

if the role paid $60 USD/hour they could probably get a really good analytical caster guy for this position and also pay Lycan to host. i'll bet you WCS Challenger League is running on a bare bones budget though.

Good Luck Lycan. Relative to the resources dedicated to the WCS Challenger League i'm sure you'll do a great job.

i'd say Nathanias is far better than nothing which is probably what the WCS Challenger league is paying these guys.

well said. The amount of attention the qualifiers and challenger itself is getting is quite underwhelming

I don't think qualifiers have ever been done on the official channels. Certainly not in EU.
