Hey fellas,
Giacomo "Socke" Thüs leaves Team XMG effect immediatly, which also means that there is no more Team XMG - We had a really good time and a good run in Starcraft II and we do not exclude the possibility of getting a new player or team in the future, but for now our Starcraft II endavours come to an end. With Socke leaving, we end a chapter, that was a lot of fun and made my job very, very enjoyable
I can tell you, from the bottom of my heart, that Giacomo is one of the most fun people to be hanging out with. We shared a lot of really cool experiences and I am very happy that he decided to stick around for a while longer. I wish him the best of luck in Heroes of the Storm, XMG as a whole is quite certain, that after his glorious Starcraft II /Hearthstone career he has yet not reached his limits and will entertain us for the next couple of years to come. Should he ever return to RTS, XMG will always have a rosterslot reserved for him.
Here is what Socke had to say (he is normally not a man of many words, but wise they are - always")
![[image loading]](https://cdn0.gamesports.net/storage/35000/35505.jpg)
"Hello everyone!
Since I have been delving more into Heroes of the Storm than Heart of the Swarm (Would love to be able to use abbreviations here) over the last months, I will be parting ways with XMG for now to play Heroes under a different flag. A big thank you to XMG for supporting me for the last year and a half in my Starcraft2 endeavours, I couldn't have asked for more in a team, shoutout to Chris especially for enduring my intense fits of rage after tournament losses so well.
I will be playing a lot of Heroes of the Storm in the next months to come with my teammates in WELL MET, but you can be sure to expect me Tarsonstyle at HSC for example, so I won't be wholly gone from the world of SC2. I will also be having an eye on LotV and its development, so that might happen as well. I'm definitely not the youngest anymore, but if/when I say goodbye to esports or SC2 completely I'll definitely make a more sentimental post. If one can come back after a ~7 year hiatus from SC1 to SC2, who's to say what may happen in the future though.
Shoutout to everyone who's been following and supporting me along the last couple of years, let's see what's still to come.
tl;dr: no more hots, hots now instead. lotv?"
Players that served under XMG (we are so proud of any single one of them):
Daniel "XlorD" Spenst
Philipp "monchi" Simon
Bastian "SaltTheWound" Brouwers
Yoan "ToD" Merlo
David "Lilbow" Moschetto
Giacomo "Socke" Thüs
Ye we were kind of Protoss heavy. Deal with it.
HomeStoryCup
Sadly we also have to say good by to a tournament that we loved more than anyone else in the world. HomeStoryCup was a great experience for 10 episodes and we had a hell lot of fun, so we are happy to make room for other companies to show their love for the game and TakeTV. Be ensured that we still play a role and are in close contact to TaKeTV to suprise you with formats and plans in the future
Dreamhack Germany
Last but not least: (we actually made a poll, but screw it - we will have Starcraft II. Period.)
XMG continues to try to get you Starcraft II content in the forseeable future. It so happens that we work quite hard on the new found Dreamhack Germany. And Starcraft II will have a place there. You got my word.
OH - and here are our poll results

sad for socke, but holy shit i'm way sadder for HSC
good luck to all involved in their future endeavours.
|
Good luck with Heroes Socke! And yay sc2 at DH Leipzig, thanks XMG, keep doing what you do .
|
Really interesting that SCII can still rock a poll pretty hard given our small player base. We get shit done!
|
Seems like a lot of SC2 players are taking this path, sad to see you go though Socke! Best of luck to you in the future, you were always a great player.

Sad for Socke, but with Hasu saying, that they plan to make the next step with WELL MET, it seems to be only the logical consequence. Good luck in Heroes Socke, I'll probably watch a bit of WELL MET's matches in the future.
|
Good luck, Socke! Thanks for all the fun!
And: Time to book DH Leipzig and see SC2 in action!!
|
This also means that ToD is teamless.

Hah! Thanks for the support, glad to see Starcraft 2 in as many DreamHacks as possible.

He's doing commentary for the Heroes tournament at DreamHack this weekend maybe everyone is just going to that game.
Best of luck to Socke in the future! Good to see Leipzig will have SC2 for sure.

haha i like the extra stats on the poll. :D Fare well to socke!
|
So what other games are going to be at DreamHack Leipzig?
|
|
see you around again sometime hopefully, when all passion has been regained

GL to him and I like his mentality. It's just stupid to say you retire from SC2 when there's a possibility you come back for LotV.

Maybe a little out of topic, but My personal favorite games to watch and follow:
Starcraft II Halo Super Smash Brothers Melee (Sm4sh is also great)
CSGO has too many fans and its very different from Halo so I'm fine with it as well.
For Moba, thats a toughy. I've followed the most the Dota 2 scene, and I quite enjoyed, but lately I haven't heard anything from it.

Not to shit on your post or anything but how exactly is HSC still gonna happen after losing one of the biggest supporters? We don't know whether or not the indiegogo fundraiser included XMG's sponsorship or not, but if they provided a lot of the support for HSC, then the fans may have to donate even more to make HSC 11 happen, in which case they might not have it at all or just delay it for awhile until they find new sponsorships (if they can).
Best of luck to Socke though and thanks to XMG for giving us one of the most fun tourney series sc2 has had over the past 5 years!

Thanks for your support to the XMG players and HSC over the years!

So with Socke and Hasuobs both leaving their respective SC2 teams in the past couple of days this probably means that their HoTS team is getting picked up by a major organization right?
|
"that after his glorious Starcraft II /Hearthstone career" oh ffs, honesty please, this is not being honest!

I don't know about his Hearthstone results but he certainly had quite an amazing SC2 career. Just because he wasn't winning premier tournaments left and right doesn't mean he lacked success or fame. Socke is a very popular player with some solid winnings, especially within the German scene.

Goodbye Socke! Thanks for the games and gl in the future!

"In the past we always managed to cover this huge amount of money with the great help of our sponsors but this time the total budget provided by our sponsors MIFcom, NEEDforSEAT®, Kinguin and EIZO will be covering 42,500 $ - which is great, but still 12,500 $ are missing to make HomeStory Cup XI come to life."
Take explained that for this homestory cup ther were less sponsors interested in sc2, XMG wasn't included in the statement above so its safe to assume XMG were one of the sponsors Take was talking about.

Yes, the original statement said, that they were getting 42,5k from "MIFcom, NEEDforSEAT, Kinguin and EIZO". People were speculating about XMG being gone from HSC on the second page of the fundraising-topic already, so they knew back then. I think, given, that the fundraising-goal has been achieved, that it is safe to say that HSC 11 will take place.

ugh. if i knew i could vote for warcraft 3 i would take that over almost any other game there, besides sc2 and cs, because cs is so important to the scene.
grr.

Sad about Socke, but I think everybody saw it coming for a long time.
Really stoked to how DH Germany will turn out. Regardless whether it contains Sc2 or not (though I do hope it does), the more competitive gaming events, the better.
So long and I wish you best of luck in Heroes, Giacomo Tschüss.

Maybe my english is too bad, but I don't understand. Will HSC XI happen? Didn't the crowdfunding suceed?
|
Was bound to happen, but still sad Good luck in Hots, Giaco! See you at HSC <3
And thank you for everything, XMG! (Special shoutout to Chris. You rock! ^^)
Sooooo stoked for DH Leipzig. Really hope I'll be able to go.
|
Thanks XMG and Socke, looking forward to see you again for Lotv !
The "Actual decision made on poll results: 0.07%" made me lol hard
|
Always liked Socke, hope he does okay in Heroes

Yes HSC XI is happening, XMG is just no longer a sponsor of HSC. They might still work together with Take on other tournaments.
Crowdfunding succeeded already but it's still running.

According to the TakeTV stream (some time ago): The reason that they had to fundraise in the first place was because XMG pulled out and they couldn't find another sponsor. So basically we compensated for XMG pulling out -->the fundraiser succeeded --> HSC XI will happen
|
HSC was the best starcraft tournament ((((

|
Thank you XMG for your unwavering SC2 support!
Thank you and best of Luck Socke! You're awesome!

Really enjoyed this post. GLHF Socke and XMG.

Jesus I bought had a heart attack. The first time I buzzed through the article and then read your post, I thought there wasnt going to be a HSC. But obviously realized that was just the sponsorship.
Liquipedia says Tod left today as well, June 10th, Socke and ToD leave. XMG disbands but I thought he left a while back. Not sure which is true but guess it really doesnt matter. I wish Socke the best of luck and ty for everything youve done for the scene!!

That might be the best use of tl;dr in a long while
Best of luck Socke but please don't let this be forever T_T
